->''"Change the scheme, alter the mood! ''Electrify'' the boys and girls, if you'd be so kind."''
-->-- '''Castor''', ''Film/TronLegacy''

Rave music is generally regarded as BackgroundMusic to pop drugs to and dance. The songs are uplifting, entrancing and quite often promote the ideas of peace, love and happiness. People who enjoy HouseMusic, {{Techno}} and [[SpeedyTechnoRemake Speedy Techno Remakes]] generally dance to it to get lost in the music, like a form of well deserved escapism from RealLife.

But sometimes, said "Rave music" can go the other way, into the realm of aggression and rage. Mostly a trope confined to fiction, The Orchestra Hit Techno Battle is when high energy rave music is used as BGM for a FightScene or an epic battle, rather than a peaceful dance party.

Named for the orchestra hit synth that is frequently used in early [[TheNineties 90's]] techno groups such as 2 Unlimited and of course The Immortals and their ''[[Film/MortalKombatTheMovie Mortal Kombat]]'' remix. The film adaption of ''Mortal Kombat'' is probably the most notable example of utilizing this trope as well as being the TropeCodifier.

In some cases, the song itself only has to be about fighting as in the case of the aforementioned ''Mortal Kombat'' remix.

Since the decline of rave culture, many of these songs such as 2 Unlimited's 'Get Ready For This' are frequently played at hockey games to amp the testosterone levels in the crowds up.

May overlap with BallroomBlitz if the battle actually is taking place at a dance club and the music is actually playing in universe.

In video games, this is a type of BattleThemeMusic, mostly reserved for {{Boss Battle}}s.

[[folder:Fan Works]]
* Many videos of [[MassivelyMultiplayerOnlineRolePlayingGame MMORPG]] boss kills (most prevalent in regard to ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'') actually invoke this, by layering techno or electronic music on top of the boss battle footage. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv_b1-bsN5o This video]] (the 25 man world first kill of Algalon the Observer, by the guild Ensidia) is one such example.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Films -- Live-Action]]
* The nihilists from ''Film/TheBigLebowski'' actually bring a ghetto blaster playing techno music to a battle with the Dude and his posse.
* ''Film/TheFifthElement'': A fight between Leeloo and the Mangalores is choreographed to the techno portion of the Diva's aria.
* The ''[[Franchise/TheMatrix Matrix]]'' series is fond of this, and often mixes pumping techno from Juno Reactor and others with more orchestral fare by Don Davis and crew.
* ''Film/MortalKombatTheMovie'':
** The track "Techno Syndrome" from The Immortals underscores the first phase of the final showdown between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung.
** The fight scene between Liu Kang and Reptile features an instrumental remix of Traci Lords' "Control".
* Pretty much the entirety of the soundtrack from ''Film/TheRaid'' is a pumping selection of breaks and dubstep.
* ''Film/ScottPilgrimVsTheWorld'' features a rave soundtrack during the fight with Roxxy. Understandable, since it takes place in a nightclub.
* ''Film/TheTerminator'' uses an electronic soundtrack with synthesized orchestra hits for many of the chase scenes, notably the [[https://youtu.be/AOS1pMQVrCQ Tunnel Chase]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pRIxcjYa0I Factory Chase]]. Long before the days of techno, but the idea is the same. Arguably, movies like ''Terminator'' retroactively helped inspire techno's dystopian aesthetic to begin with.
* ''Film/TronLegacy'' has a cameo from Music/DaftPunk as the [=DJs=] inside a virtual club while a BallroomBlitz breaks out, thanks to Clu's forces.
* A particularly brutal and gritty version appears in ''Film/TrueRomance'' during the fight scene between Clarence and Drexl, with Nymphomania's "I Want Your Body" playing in the background. The music in the scene is pretty loud, which almost drowns out Gary Oldman's dialog.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Music]]
* Surprisingly, Vanessa Mae, [[OutOfGenreExperience in a departure from her usual neoclassical techno-pop]], covered Music/DonnaSummer's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MnQbC0ctGk "I Feel Love"]] [[InTheStyleOf in this style]] in 1997, well after the use of of orchestra hit samples in techno had fallen out of favor.
%%* Reggae singer Frankie Paul's "Worries in the Dance" invokes this trope.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pro Wrestling]]
%%* WHAT DOES EVERYBODY WANT?! Unce Unce Unce Unce. WHAT DOES EVERYBODY NEED?!
* Too Cool was an interesting subversion. They would have a dance number to a techno/hip-hop beat in an environment that is normally reserved for fighting and aggression.
* Wrestling/{{WWE}} has been using electro house-inspired pop songs more and more with their [=PPv=]'s such as ''Wrestling/WrestleMania''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Video Games]]
* ''VideoGame/Action52'', released in 1991 (predating ''Recca'' by a year), has the iconic and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUeYdjZJJBM often-remixed]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZlYGN5W2Yg Cheetahmen theme]].
* ''VideoGame/TheAdventuresOfBatmanAndRobin'' ignores the whimsical, orchestral score of [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries its source material]] for '90s acid house. The intro score is 9 minutes long!
* In ''VideoGame/ArcanaHeart'''s story mode, should you be defeated by Mildred Avalon's first form, her boss theme becomes one of these. It's much more intense than her normal battle theme, and because she starts with a full Super Meter when you lose the first round, it serves to underline [[ThisIsGonnaSuck how badly you're screwed]].
%%* Chaotic Dance from ''VideoGame/BatenKaitos'', TheDragon and the QuirkyMinibossSquad's theme.
* In ''VideoGame/{{Bejeweled}}'', the Time Trial mode invokes this with the techno track [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ0WpwMdS8Q "Data Jack"]] by Skaven of the Future Crew. Likewise, ''VideoGame/MaxPayne'''s Ragna Rock Club stage uses the break section of Skaven's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2hugkpTCCQ "Corruptor"]].
* ''VideoGame/BioMetal'' has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOGOiYa7eew "Get Ready for This"]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiVX_vC0om8 "Twilight Zone"]] by 2 Unlimited for its boss music, at least in the US version.
%%* Multiplayer in ''VideoGame/Bomberman64''.
* ''VideoGame/CaliforniaSpeed'', namely the arcade version, uses stadium techno for its [[https://youtu.be/oZIJJ-9AV5c Laguna Seca]] and [[https://youtu.be/pGsxJGIWfXw Sears Point]] courses.
* The Genesis game ''VideoGame/CombatCars'' has a techno soundtrack, and the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP2yLmfuJeo Character Select]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYA-jD1nFcA Downtown]] themes are soundalikes of {{Music/Haddaway}}'s "What Is Love?" and 2 Unlimited's "Tribal Dance", respectively.
* The ''VideoGame/{{Contra}}'' series had this as far back as the second game, both versions of which used PCM orchestra hit samples.
** ''VideoGame/ContraHardCorps'' exhibits this trope the most, notably in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn1-0ElaYhI "Locked and Loaded"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PYsnonKLBg "Zephyr"]], the appropriately named [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiy3ehfjQdg "R.A.V.E."]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXoGelVCZaU "A Spirit of Bushi"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGJFjNGwX7w "Format X"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vVNoYKKryI "The Dawn"]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYNLz8goZdE "The Hard Corps"]].
** ''VideoGame/ContraShatteredSoldier'' has a NostalgiaLevel with a techno [[https://youtu.be/UktpcE9K6jk remix]] of the original game's Stage 1 theme, as well as techno battle themes for [[https://youtu.be/r9L_PJBHTqI Yokozuna Jr.]], [[https://youtu.be/-_iPt3ngtSU Jinmen-gyo]], and [[https://youtu.be/roF8-B8cBjw Mr. Heli-Robo]].
* The ''VideoGame/DanceDanceRevolution'' series features this trope in many of its boss songs, notably the "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTzETfZCG6k PARANOiA]]" and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSh8XaIMf0g "MAX"]] series.
* ''VideoGame/DeadToRights'' has a dancefloor battle set to a ''[[Film/TheMatrix Matrix]]''-esque techno track, appropriately titled "[[https://youtu.be/Fk51-fJVX_0 Nightclub Combat]]".
* ''VideoGame/{{Descent}}'' has this in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkjqn85JCyI Io Sulfur Mine]] from the DOS version, and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhsmNiELpiM Venus Atmospheric Lab]] from the Macintosh version.
* ''VideoGame/DoubleDragonNeon'' uses this trope for the first fight with [[https://youtu.be/xpiZN5b0Td0 Skullmageddon]], [[https://youtu.be/vl7By7z_3es Mecha Biker]], and the [[https://youtu.be/BIk-_zjUmFI Giant Tank]].
%%* A majority of ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'''s soundtrack.
* In ''VideoGame/DukeNukem3D'', the Red Light District [[https://youtu.be/Zs3Jo6KW35A strip club music]] is a soundalike of the ''[[Film/MortalKombatTheMovie Mortal Kombat]]'' theme.
%%* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyITEQDiJq4 Shudder]], one of the boss themes from ''VideoGame/{{Einhander}}''.
* ''VideoGame/FarCry3BloodDragon'' has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaU5ZORV2mY Combat II]], an homage to the ''Terminator'' Tunnel Chase theme mentioned in the Film folder.
%%* Laguna's theme song in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII''.
* ''VideoGame/{{GoldenEye|1997}}'' has orchestra hit-based arrangements of the ''Film/JamesBond'' theme in a few levels, e.g., the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK8ARIY_xbs Silo]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDzPKctYAjE Frigate]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69zxrGjt0wk Train]].
%%* Seven Force's theme from ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' and ''VideoGame/AlienSoldier''.
* When the battle really starts to heat up in the ''VideoGame/HalfLife'' series, expect it to be underscored by some beats! Even more notable in that the game has no BGM except for dramatic events.
%%* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwJFSyfPWV0 Chapter 3]] and the FinalBoss [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFyY6Vp3K8o battle]] in ''VideoGame/HouseOfTheDead''.
* ''VideoGame/{{Ikaruga}}'' has the main theme [[https://youtu.be/fAn6XxsDDTI?t=23s "Ideal"]], which is remixed as [[https://youtu.be/Ep5O3r7K1jg "The Stone Like"]] for the FinalBoss battle, the main boss theme [[https://youtu.be/cMdJTGtwCVo "Butsutekkai"]], and the part of [[https://youtu.be/8ym2uK-nm7k?t=1m24s "Reality"]] heard during the BulletHell maelstrom in Chapter 4.
* Played with in ''VideoGame/KatanaZero'', during Club Neon. While the first half of the stage is played as a stealth section, you have to mow your way out of the club once you meet Electrohead, the BGM not changing from its bassy, rave theme, "Hit the Floor".
* ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'':
** Teased in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' and onwards with the high energy remix of Simple and Clean; it's in most of the games, but despite fan outcry, it has yet to be used as battle music.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVDavId-9IU "Another Side, Another Story"]] originally plays during a fight scene at Memory's Skyscraper. It's been used several times since as a battle theme.
* Originating between the 1980's and '90s, the ''Franchise/MegaMan'' series has always had this as part of its famous BackgroundMusic. ''VideoGame/MegaManX'' even has the orchestral hit in many of its tunes.
* The ''VideoGame/MetalSlug'' series has the [[https://youtu.be/dF5PlhFXEZ8 Assault]] theme for the recurring boss Allen O'Neil, which sounds like a [[MusicalPastiche pastiche]] of [[Franchise/MortalKombat "Techno Syndrome"]] and the ''Series/MissionImpossible'' theme. Notably, it was given a DrumAndBass [[https://youtu.be/dJnhP8bqvQM arrangement]] in the seventh installment.
* ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'': Ridley's music from ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'' sounds similar to "Twilight Zone" from 2 Unlimited, just in a different time signature. The arrangement used for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLLjibR_c4Q Meta-Ridley]] in ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'' fits this trope even better.
* ''VideoGame/MontyMole'': ''Impossamole'', in its UsefulNotes/TurboGrafx16 incarnation, has the chiptune equivalent of this in much of its [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p8jg2M8Rio background music]], but oddly not the boss theme.
* ''VideoGame/MortalKombat3'' notably uses this trope in the main title, Streets, and Belltower themes.
* The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78jnBlInP2I Power Plant]] theme in ''VideoGame/OneMustFall'' sounds like a stereotypical 2 Unlimited track.
* ''VideoGame/Payday2'':
** Due to the open-ended design of the game, in the Nightclub heist this can be {{invoked|Trope}} by the player heisters if you shoot the mafia and tie hostages as soon as you can, (the [[SoMuchForStealth "Loud"]] approach), or completely {{averted|Trope}} by busting the target safe in and out with proper silent tools (the [[TheCaper "Stealth"]] approach.)
** The [[{{Crossover}} Alesso Heist DLC]] features a special soundtrack for the stage, composed by Swedish DJ Alesso. So special, in fact, [[EnforcedTrope you can't change it without the use of mods]].
%%* The Boss music from ''VideoGame/{{Plok}}''.
* ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' uses this during the battles with legendary Pokémon.
* ''VideoGame/{{Recca}}'' has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbdDW3aSCyM techno music]] for the ''entire soundtrack''. Note that ''Recca'' is a NES game...
* Subverted in ''VideoGame/SensoryOverload'', which uses techno orchestra hits in the Game Over music, but not in any of the in-game themes, which have a more {{EBM}}-type sound.
* ''VideoGame/SpaceChannel5 Part 2'' has Desperate Dance Showdown for Dancing Purge's battle. It certainly fits the atmosphere of the battle at the time.
* The battle theme for [[spoiler:Clarity Centralis]] in ''VideoGame/SparkTheElectricJester3'' makes full use of this, in contrast to the hard rocking Ultimate Final Boss from the previous [[VideoGame/SparkTheElectricJester two]] [[VideoGame/SparkTheElectricJester2 games]].
* ''VideoGame/StarFox1'' for the SNES has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsOEGPLa1Z4 Corneria's stage theme]]. Since the rest of the game (and [[Franchise/StarFox series]]) tends to use OrchestralBombing, it stands out.
%%* ''Many'' tracks from the ''VideoGame/StreetsOfRage'' series.
* ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'':
** Some of the boss battle music from both ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' and ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2'', especially the music played during the final boss battle with [[BigBad Bowser]] at the end of the first game.
** In ''VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG'', the first phase of the fight against [[BigBad Smithy]] combines this with an OminousPipeOrgan.
** ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlpQk-3SOSQ&t=5s final battle theme]], which was reused for Bowser's Castle in ''VideoGame/SuperMarioKart''.
* The first two ''VideoGame/SyphonFilter'' games have many orchestral techno battle themes, notably [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwYyPM7E0aw Main Subway Line]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWU551uFZEg Pharcom Expo Center]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KG0zfmZFJq8 Rhoemer's Military Base]],[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CipFuBDIpM Missile Silo]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JL-NVMbA050 the second game's intro]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF61E_JgdHk United Pacific Train 101]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI10urg3_bk C-130 Crash Site]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0tvc9IG9zQ Club 32]] (bonus points for the mission being set in a dance club), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufsBMrDkjf4&t=3888s Moscow Streets]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ij6Pp7arDlA Agency Biolab Escape]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufsBMrDkjf4&t=5181s New York Slums]].
* The first ''Franchise/{{Tekken}}'' game has the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75AMKEZS80Y Chicago]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj50N9dTYJ8 Stadium]] themes. The arcade soundtrack to ''Tekken 2'' (not so much the arranged Platform/PlayStation soundtrack) has several examples as well, notably for [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3FweiZJC1M Heihachi]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB1o_28nvGQ Michelle Chang]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyshPjfUaKQ Lei Wu-Long]], and the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqkoO5i2L7k Sub-Bosses]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'' has [[https://youtu.be/2TgO-tN5wAM "Death by Glamour"]], Mettaton's battle theme.
* ''VideoGame/WinBack'' has this [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9GOqMVPPyY during]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ortzQJbIU5o boss]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-Phl6vd_bE battles]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Ys}}'':
** The UsefulNotes/TurboGrafx16 CD [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wsrUR_7ZMQ arrangement of "Termination"]] from ''VideoGame/YsIIAncientYsVanishedTheFinalChapter''.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ7hNc_BcHY Galba-Roa's]] and [[https://youtu.be/vzfodAERwuU Ernst's]] battle themes from ''VideoGame/YsVITheArkOfNapishtim''.

[[folder:Web Animation]]
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' has {{Speedy Techno Remake}}s of the show's main themes playing during the fight in [[BadGuyBar Junior's night club]] in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCw_aAS7vWI Yellow Trailer]].
* Future Crew's legendary ''Second Reality'' [[{{Demoscene}} demo]] has this music style during [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL5vb3D-8_I the part scored by Purple Motion]].
