[[folder:Justin Blake]]
!!Justin Blake
->'''Played by:''' @/TroperRoxas
->"Win or lose? Nah, I choose option C - Have fun above all else!"

A young duelist who favours the Elemental [=HEROes.=] Despite his love of the game and all the fun he derives from it, he's far from the most capable duelist ever. Or the most intelligent.
----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: Well, everyone, really. A more personal comparison could be his sister -- stated to be a semi-finalist. Not that this really seems to affect him in any way.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Anime/YuGiOhGX Jaden]], what with him being the fun-loving Elemental HERO duellist.
%%* FusionDance: What his deck relies on for powerful monsters.
* MasterOfNone: Justin uses one of every (non-fusion) HERO, and his deck seems like it's trying to incorporate a piece of every strategy a HERO deck can use. Unfortunately, this leaves his deck heavily unbalanced.

[[folder:Regulus Gale]]
!!Regulus Gale
->'''Played by:''' @/{{Nitramy}}
----
* {{Determinator}}: Not even the Lswarm virus will stop him from trying to win the title.

[[folder:Art Caltenrich]]
!!Arthas "Art" M. Caltenrich
->'''Played by:''' @/NickTheSwing
->"I will not let Fate control me!"
----
%%* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: They named him ''Arthas''.
* BerserkButton: Seeing Gretel try to bully Jacques and Roxas has him unleashing quite a vindictive TheReasonYouSuckSpeech against her.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's normally a very patient individual, but he can be quite vicious when pushed too far.
* TheCoatsAreOff: He takes off his jacket prior to dueling Roxas again. It hints at his more ruthless dueling style now.
%%* TheCorruptible: Surprisingly easily it would seem.
* TheCorruption: He is slowly being driven to evil by "The Power of Chaos".
* {{Deconstruction}}: Of how new archetypes in fanfiction are usually just seen and accepted. Nobody knows where his Parallax archetype came from, and they're treated as very suspicious.
%%* EnemyWithin: A Duel Spirit, apparently. And now he might have another one. One he has apparently allied with.
%%* FriendlyRivalry: He formed one with Roxas at the start of Season One.
* HiddenDepths: While Art looks like a fairly stable and reliable guy, it's pretty clear that he's hiding a lot of personal insecurities. Plus there's that whole "Chaos" thing.
* HotBlooded: He tends to let his emotions get the better of him during times of stress. This becomes even more exaggerated as TheCorruption takes hold.
* HumbleHero: Was genuinely surprised by Roxas's praise.
%%* GeniusBruiser: He's physically one of the largest duelists at the academy, and is quite the beatdown player.
* GentleGiant: Mostly in the earlier parts of Season One. He's probably the largest duelist at the academy, but also pretty humble and friendly.
* GuileHero: He shows some definite tactics, including showing some wariness when the opponent has facedowns, and preferring to wait until he can be rid of them.
%%* HeroicBuild: Definitely bigger than most of the other duelists.
* HumansAreWarriors: Uses a Heroic Deck, though he has started prioritizing power cards and huge moves as he moves closer toward acting like his namesake.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: His size is a clear indicator of his raw strength.
%%* NiceGuy: During the earlier parts of Season One before TheCorruption started to set in.
* ObliviousToLove: So far he seems unaware of the crush Roxas has on him.
* OutsideContextProblem: This is how his Parallax archetype is being taken now. Both of the current villains are having a DidNotSeeThatComing moment in regards to them, and none of the protagonists know where they come from either.
%%* PowerGlows: The Parallax Archetype.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Roxas's Blue.
* StarPower: His Parallax cards apparently spawn from constellations, and are based on them, though curiously, one of them, Mors, is not based on a Constellation.
%%* ThisIsUnforgivable: He was furious with Apophis for killing Peter.
* TookALevelInBadass: Using Deathcaliber on his monsters propels them from one relative "class" in attack power into another, and he generally has a lot of cards that increase attack power now. He then upgrades to the powerful "Chaos" deck, and the further to the Rank-Up heavy "[[OriginalGeneration Parallax]]" archetype.
* TookALevelInJerkass: TheCorruption has been steadily making him more aggressive and moody over the course of the series.
%%* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: He's actively fighting the darker side of his "power".
%%* YouCantFightFate: He is showing some signs of another persona taking hold, namely, one based heavily on the Lich King. Though he doesn't say it, this ''deeply'' troubles Art.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Jacques Mangeau]]
!!Jacques Mangeau
->'''Played by:''' @/EviIPaladin
->"I will steal the limelight and the crown!"

A young Canadian boy who grew up on the streets and survived by playing it smart and swift. Plays a Machine King deck, along with his Duel Spirit, Gamma-03 the Machine King Prototype.
----
* BashBrothers: Him and Caramon are pretty buddy-buddy now, so it is only a matter of time until a Tag Duel opportunity arises.
* BerserkButton: His past is a bit of a sore-spot. Bringing it up will cause Jacques to devolve into a tear-fueled rage.
%%* DarkAndTroubledPast: Not much is known about it aside from it being [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin dark and troubled]], but it clearly has an effect on Jacques. When he's not running from it, that is.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He's TheHeart, but that doesn't stop him from laying into Denero when he believes the latter betrayed Marcus.
%%* TheHeart: He falls into this role near the end of the Apophis arc.
* InformedAttribute:
** Supposedly Jacques is a very good duelist. This gets harder to believe with every loss he receives.
** He is supposedly a (street) smart and resourceful person, having grown up on the streets of inner city Montreal. [[IdiotHero This hasn't exactly been showcased.]]
%%* KleptomaniacHero: Maybe not so much a hero, but definitely a klepto.
%%* LargeHam: Jacques gets a little carried away during duels.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBTGNmEiuso Hopelessly Waltzing]] is Jacques'.
%%* OvershadowedByAwesome: Though this can be explained by the fact that he's facing a bunch of ''other'' Expert Duelists.
* TookALevelInKindness: In his first appearance, Jacques was incredibly arrogant and hostile to everyone around him. Following some CharacterDevelopment, he's now essentially TheHeart of the group.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Peter Agnew]]
!!Peter Agnew
->'''Played by:''' @/{{Gilphon}}
->"I am stone."

A rather arrogant and self-centered duelist, Peter's skill and loyalty have nevertheless made him a valued member of the team.
----
* TheAce: Next to Regulus, he's easily one of the most competent duelists in the group.
* AloofAlly: Especially near the beggining, he doesn't really get along with the others and is only working with them because he himself is under threat.
* AndIMustScream: Apophis buries him alive and leaves his body to rot, keeping Peter conscious throughout the years and [[MindRape mind raping]] him with the suggestion that everything he's ever strived for is ultimately pointless.
* AntiHero: Arrogant, presumptuous and cold, but still a decent human being.
* ArrogantKungFuGuy: Is an exceptionally talented duelist and because of that, he frequently looks down on his fellow students.
* BadassLongcoat: He wears a large brown trenchcoat, likely to invoke this effect.
* BeneathTheMask: Underneath his facade of an arrogant stoic, Peter actually has quite an energetic and mischievous personality
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: His arrogance is an intentional facade created in a misguided attempt to look "cool".
* BreakTheHaughty: This happens when Apophis deconstructs his attempts to be "cool" by showing him just how meaningless he truly is. It's noted that Peter became much nicer after that.
* CatchPhrase: ''"[[DefiantToTheEnd I am stone.]]"''
%%* CruelAndUnusualDeath: He is literally EatenAlive.
%%* DefeatMeansRespect: How his friendship with Regulus was formed.
* {{Determinator}}: The duels against Apophos and its cult really demonstrates his "Never-Say-Die" attitude.
* DisneyDeath: He gets torn apart by Apophis's Malefic Cyber Dragon, but is resurrected at the end of the duel.
%%* EatenAlive: His death.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His inner monologue during the Airport episode at the start of Season One where he is obviously trying to put on a fake "badass" personality.
* FriendlessBackground: As far as we've seen, the East Academy students are the first real friends he's made.
%%* FriendlyRivalry: With Regulus.
* GlorySeeker: His greatest desire is to be remembered for his accomplishments.
* GoodIsNotNice: He's kind of a dick, but still a good person.
* GrudgingThankYou: Since he doesn't show much outward emotion, most signs of gratitude will be this.
* HateAtFirstSight: Downplayed, but he has a tendency to quickly form negative opinions about the people he meets such as Marcus.
* HatesBeingTouched: He was clearly uncomfortable when Roxas hugged him.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: He tries to repress his more likable traits because he feels it will hurt his "badass" image.
%%* IJustWantToBeBadass: It's his ultimate desire.
* {{Jerkass}}: He is stand-offish, hostile and aloof.
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: His heat of gold shows up around Regulus.
%%* KindnessButton: His seems to be Regulus.
* {{Kuudere}}: Has a cold exterior, but a surprisingly fun-loving inner side.
* MeaningfulName: 'Peter' translates to 'Rock' in English, Greek and Czech.
* NoMoreHoldingBackSpeech: He makes several speeches about the indestructibility of stone.
* NotSoStoic: His inner monologue's constantly show that his stoic facade is just that: a facade.
%%* OddFriendship: With the snarky Golemn Sentry.
* OhCrap: His reaction when he realises Apophis is going to kill him, and when he is buried alive.
%%* OppositesAttract: Again, his friendship with Golemn Sentry.
* ThePerfectionist: He constantly expects flawless victory from himself.
%%* ThePrankster: A trait he tries to hide.
* PutOnABus: He disappeared at the end of Season One and has yet to appear in Season Two.
%%* TheQuietOne: Another aspect to his "badass" persona.
* RageBreakingPoint: Despite trying to remain stoic during the duel against the Constellar Cultist, he eventually loses his cool and lashes out at Caramon for being next to useless in the duel.
%%* RebelRelaxation: He is frequently seen using this pose, most memorably during his introduction.
%%* TheRival: To Marcus. Though this seems to have mellowed down.
* SacrificialLion: His death shows just how dangerous Apophis truly is.
* ShowyInvincibleHero: His skill at the card game makes him rather fun to watch.
* SmugSnake: Subverted. His introduction as an arrogant poser makes him seem like he'll be defeated by a ''real'' badass.
%%* SmugSuper: Instead he shows he can more than back up his attitude.
%%* StealthMentor: This seems to be his preferred tactic when he actually tries to help others.
* TheStoic: Tries to act aloof and detached to maintain his "Mysterious loner badass" credentials.
* StoneWall: Pun not intended, he has a very defensive strategy that relies on tricks and traps.
%%* StraightManAndWiseGuy: The Straight Man to Golemn Sentry's Wise Guy.
%%* SugarAndIcePersonality: He's actually pretty likable once he drops his "badass" act.
* TookALevelInKindness: He becomes noticeably nicer to the others after being [[MindRape mind raped]] by Apophis.
%%* TrapMaster: A lot of his strength lies in his traps.
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: With Golem Sentry
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Caramon Dun]]
!!Caramon Dun
->'''Played by:''' @/{{Krika}}
->"I know exactly how that works. Do you?"

A student who was semi-willingly sent to the academy by his parents. Unlike [[WackyCollege most of the students]], he cannot sense Duel Spirits.
----
* AdventurerArchaeologist: Anthropologist, more specifically. His parents were these, and he was one by virtue of being dragged along.
* BashBrothers: With Jacques. It helps they both are Machine-type enthusiasts and view each other as equals.
* DifficultButAwesome: His Meklord monsters aren't a very consistent archetype, lacking decent support or good effects. That being said, the Meklord Emperors are ridiculously strong in the right situations.
* GadgeteerGenius: Can hack all sorts of technology, such as giving the group's Duel Disks two-way radios.
* MotorMouth: Tends to do this when he focuses on one particular topic, in addition to not paying much attention to other things around him. He consciously takes advantage of this to ignore pain.
%%* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Conversations involving Duel Spirits are this to his view.
* RobotMaster: His deck is purely Machines, so he is this in a duel.
%%* TheSmartGuy: Shows shades of this. Especially in the tech department.
* WalkingTheEarth: His parents do so, and he was along for the ride before he went to the academy.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sigmund Diabola]]
!!Sigmund Diabola
->'''Played by:''' @/{{Xargnio}}
->"Tell me. Whom will you allow to write your epitaph?"

A young boy of dual British/Swedish decent, as a young child he would often listen to his great-grandfather's stories which he still remembers to this day. He always wears the two gifts his great-grandfather gave him before passing on a peaked cap and a trenchcoat.
----
* AncestralWeapon: Freed was given to him by his Grandfather.
%%* BadassBookworm: Is quite knowledgeable about matters of philosophy and history, as well as being very well spoken.
* BadassLongcoat: Next to his hat, this is probably his most recognizable piece of clothing.
* BerserkButton: People disrespecting the past annoys him, as does being ignored.
%%* BewareTheNiceOnes: Does wanting to [[ExtremeMeleeRevenge torture]] Haine for what he did to Marcus count?
* BlackKnight: Most of his deck takes this form, mainly being warriors of darkness.
* TheCaptain: A soldier and a leader? Yeah, he qualifies
%%* CharacterFilibuster: WHERE TO START?!
%%* CloudcuckooLandersMinder: Towards Freed during some of the latter's more overt ManChild moments.
%%* CommissarCap: One of his gifts from his great-grandfather.
%%* TheConfidant: To Marcus during the latter’s Heroic BSOD moment.
* CreepyGood: Has a morbid personality, an intimidating appearance and a fascination with darkness. Despite this, Sigmund is firmly on the side of good and actually a really nice guy.
* CryForTheDevil: InUniverse, Sigmund expresses genuine sympathy for Skull Knight when he realises the latter was [[TragicVillain possessed and forced to be a monster.]]
%%* DadTheVeteran: Or in this case, Granddad the veteran.
* DarkIsNotEvil: His deck are dark monsters but he still tries to be nice and friendly. This becomes the main point of his NoMoreHoldingBackSpeech to Skull Knight.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Especially when he bickers with Freed.
* FatalFlaw: His tendency to devalue his own worth. Freed points out just how dangerous this outlook can be.
%%* AFatherToHisMen
* FriendlyEnemy: Is quite affable and polite to his opponents. Even if those opponents are word destroying evil maniacs. Which makes it even more noticeable that Apophis is the first enemy to completely shatter this demeanor- even against Haine, Sigmund was able to project a friendly attitude.
* GoodIsNotSoft:
** Definitely shows signs of this during his duel with the Skull Knight as he uses the Skull Knight's hatred and his own darkness as a weapon.
** Once he finds out what happened to Marcus, he encourages Gol'Gar to MindRape and kill Haine.
%%* GuileHero: As shown during the duel against Skull Knight. He’s surprisingly deceptive when he needs to be.
* HumbleHero: Does not have a strong opinion of himself.
* IconicItem: His signature CommissarCap.
* IdealHero: Despite being an example of DarkIsNotEvil, Sigmund actually fits this trope rather well, being honorable, kind-hearted and humble.
%%* TheIdealist: And it pays off. With him standing firm against all of Skull Knight’s StrawNihilist rants.
* TheKirk: Intelligent enough to keep a level head, but unlike Marcus, he can actually understand and deal with his emotional side.
* LargeHam: Has a tendency to go off on long-winded, melodramatic speeches.
%%* TheLeader: Has almost certainly become this by now.
* MagneticHero: Has a strong amount of charisma around him and is good at drawing the other duelists together.
* MilitaryBrat: Not exactly a brat, but his family does have a history of military service.
%%* MotorMouth: He can be very long winded at times.
* NiceGuy: One of the few genuinely nice duelists.
* NoSenseOfHumor: Downplayed. He does have a sense of humour, but sometimes he tends to go off on tangents and miss an obvious joke. Case in point: “Uranus”.
%%* NotSoAboveItAll: See FriendlyEnemy above.
* OddFriendship: With Marcus. You wouldn’t expect someone like him to be friends with an antisocial, manipulative, borderline sociopath like Marcus.
%%* OfficerAndAGentleman: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]]. Sigmund intentionally adheres to this persona.
* ThePaladin: Uses a warrior deck, has strong moral fibre and is utterly ruthless to those of genuine evil.
%%* PatrickStewartSpeech: The main point of his speech to Skull Knight.
%%* TheReliableOne: Probably the main quality that leads to him being the team’s Leader.
* SherlockScan: Has done this a couple of times, such as when he successfully deduces the existent of Peter’s duel spirit despite the latter trying to keep that information a secret.
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: Compares ''Duel Monsters'' to a game of chess at one point.
* TheStrategist: He’s deceptively intelligent. But his strategies tend to focus on small term tactics rather than the long term Gambits that [[TheChessmaster Marcus]] uses.
%%* TeamDad: What he tries to act like at times. He's becoming much better at it as the series progresses; it really comes to light when he comforts Marcus.
* VitriolicBestBuds: While not as strong as some other examples, he and Freed do still have the occasional [[LikeAnOldMarriedCouple Lover’s Quarrel]].
%%* WhatYouAreInTheDark: Faces this when forced to fight alone against Skull Knight. He passes with flying colours.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Denero Potenza]]
!!Denero Potenza
->'''Played by:''' @/{{Degnan}}; later by @/PhilosopherStones
->"Show me your aggression!"

The only son of a pair of bank robbers, Denero lived with his uncle in Italy after their arrest, learning the ways of the Jurrac deck. He now attends East Academy with his aggressive Duel Spirit Jurrac Meteor, who uses Denero’s body when the time comes to duel.
----
* AllTakeAndNoGive: Denero is dependent on Jurrac Meteor, a fact that the meteor uses to take control of Denero’s body to do whatever it wants.
%%* AncestralWeapon: The ''Jurrac Meteor''.
* AntiHero: Self-centred and abrasive, but is ultimately one of the good guys.
* ApologeticAttacker: After regaining his body Denero will normally apologise for the actions of Jurrac Meteor during the duel/discussion.
* ArchnemesisDad: And Archnemesis Mom. They're definitely his most personal opponents.
%%* CallingTheOldManOut: The whole point of his tag duel against them. Ironically, it's actually [[TheRival Marcus]] who gives them a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech.
%%* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: In regards to his distrust of Avrum.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His parents were arrested at a young age and he grew up with his uncle and the [[BigBrotherBully extremely abusive Meteor]].
%%* DevilsAdvocate: What he's trying to be. Unfortunately for him, his aggressive nature makes him seem like a CommanderContrarian.
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears a wraparound cloth variant to cover The Meteor's eye after they've merged together.
* FatalFlaw: {{Pride}}. Denero just cannot bring himself to accept the fact that he might be in the wrong.
%%* FreudianExcuse: Growing up under The Meteor's thumb could not have been good for his psyche.
* GollumMadeMeDoIt: The relationship between Denero and Jurrac Meteor, with one being timid and unsure, and the other being aggressive and angry.
* GrewASpine: Becomes much more assertive over the course of the first season.
* HatesBeingAlone: It's why he puts up with The Meteor's bullying. Despite all his {{Jerkass}}ery, his greatest fear is being alone.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: He absolutely hates Marcus. Even after [[RivalsTeamUp they teamed up]], he was still happy at the thought of Marcus getting killed, though this has lessened significantly after his HeelRealization.
* HeelRealization: Thanks to Apophis's MindRape, he finally comes to see just how selfish he'd been acting.
* HiddenDepths: His family history and his abject [[KnightTemplar hatred]] of law-breakers.
%%* HotBlooded: Easily the most hot-headed and emotional of the duelists.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Considers Marcus to be an irredeemable criminal for killing an enemy cultist, yet is perfectly willing to leave him to die.
* IgnoredEpiphany: Several times the other characters call him out on his bullshit, only to be brushed aside. It takes an Apophis-created Meteor to [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech finally spell it out for him]].
%%* ImNotAHeroIm: Constantly denies being a hero.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Denero has, as part of his levels in jerkass, become incredibly arrogant, pushing his opinions and demands on others in exchange for aid.
* {{Jerkass}}: He becomes rude and self-centred after fusing with The Meteor.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While his reason for not trusting the Headmaster is understandable, the fact that he seems to be wasting time giving him the third degree has not endeared him to the others.
* KickTheDog: Willingly leaves Marcus to (likely) die. Naturally, this really pissed Jacques off.
* KickThemWhileTheyreDown: Callously insults Marcus after knowing that the latter had just been tortured.
* KnightTemplar: His unflinching hatred of lawbreakers that goes beyond rhyme or reason really paints him as having this kind of attitude.
%%* LackOfEmpathy: Has this attitude to lawbreakers.
* LawfulStupid: His near pathological hatred of law-breakers goes far beyond any form of sense or sanity.
* MagicalEye: One of his eyes is a bright shade of gold to reflect the fact that The Meteor's spirit has merged with his own.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's not exactly known for this, but he does have his moments, [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13413126490A12860100&page=46#1150 such as when he tricked Marcus into losing the support of the others]] (Something even The Meteor found impressive). Granted he was actually OutGambitted at the time, but it was still a neat trick.
* MiseryBuildsCharacter: Being {{mind rape}}d by Apophis eventually leads to him [[TookALevelInKindness taking a level in kindness]].
* {{Nephewism}}: He was brought up by his uncle after his parents were arrested when he was still very young.
* NeverMyFault: He refuses to take the blame for any of his mistakes.
* NiceGuy: In his first appearance he was actually pretty friendly, albeit very shy.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: He makes it clear that he doesn't give a damn about being in a team.
* PlayingWithFire: Most of his Jurracs are wreathed in flames. It's even his aura.
%%* TheRival: Towards Marcus. The fact that his parents once stole from Marcus's company doesn't help matters.
* ServileSnarker: Despite normally being subservient to the Meteor, he still gets a few quips in at the latter's expense.
* ShedTheFamilyName: Refuses to go by his original surname of "Niblet".
* ShrinkingViolet: In strong contrast to his persona at the end of the series, Denero started out as an incredibly shy individual.
* StoppedCaring: Was kind of interested in being part of the team at first, but after dueling his own parents and merging with The Meteor, the resulting bitterness cause him to basically say "Screw you all!" to all the other duelists.
* TookALevelInJerkass: After the duel with the cultists, he has become a lot more aggressive and uncaring towards his fellow duelists. Likely due to him merging with the Jurrac Meteor.
* TookALevelInKindness: After his HeelRealization, he finally returns to his NiceGuy roots, while still retaining his new found confidence.
* WhatTheHellHero: Gets this from Jacques after his decision to abandon Marcus. Ironic, since Marcus had wanted them to leave. Followed by a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech and WhatTheHellHero lecture from David.
* YoureNotMyFather: Refuses to see his parents as anything but monsters.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Marcus Kyleman]]
!!Marcus Kyleman
-> '''Played by:''' @/{{Lunacorva}}
->"Impressive, ''truly'' impressive. But there is one thing you've failed to consider..."

The son of the wealthy Kyleman family, Marcus is probably the most "[[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} unique]]" duelist in the academy.
----
* AlienInvasion: He uses an Alien deck. Particularly, they specialize in taking over monsters, mainly for one effect or another, or even just to destroy them with Alien Hypno.
* AllTheOtherReindeer: ZigZagged. He was never really bullied at school, and he kept himself separate from others because he knew that they found him weird and didn't really want to talk to him. He doesn't really care about having friends, but there are hints that it's a desire that he's regulated to "Never going to happen".
* AloofAlly: While he's happy to help the group and is reasonably polite to them, he doesn't really consider himself to be part of the team, and considers their alliance to be more along the lines of a business deal; it's exaggerated to the point where he is legitimately shocked to hear Sigmund call him a friend.
* AntiHero: Although Marcus is normally a nice bloke, if a bit aloof, he has an incredibly ruthless side.
* BerserkButton: Never bully someone in front of him, and if you do, and you continue to belittle others, then pray to God that you can back it up or Marcus will destroy you. As Gretel found out the hard way.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He went from being affable and friendly to trying to [[MindRape break]] Gretel. Needless to say, many of the other students were shocked by this transformation.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Marcus seems to operate primarily on this. He's friendly and polite, but is genuinely unable to understand why mind raping and executing an enemy would be considered a bad thing. Somewhat understandable when you consider that the only companion he's ever had is a {{Starfish Alien|s}} literally designed for war.
* BoringButPractical: He often uses moves that are simple but effective, something that Gretel mocks him for.
* BreakThemByTalking: Does this constantly throughout his duel with Gretel. [[VillainousBreakdown It even drives her to surrendering their duel, and admitting that he's right and she hates herself]].
%%* BrutalHonesty: Marcus is blunt.
* ButtMonkey: He seemed like this in his first two duels, being [[CurbstompBattle curbstomped]] twice and failing to inflict any damage in either duel.
* TheChessmaster: Marcus almost always has a plan in everything he does or says.
** During the duel with Gretel, he used ObfuscatingStupidity both to lure Gretel into a false sense of security, and also to simply [[TheGadfly annoy the crap out of her]]. She had really pissed him off with her arrogant attitude before the duel, so he was trying to not just beat, but humiliate her. When Marcus saw the face-down cards on Gretel's side of the field, he was almost positive that they were traps. However, he also realized that it was better to spring them now, and lose a weak monster, than to spring them later and lose one of his trump cards. Furthermore, he also had three separate traps of his own that he could use to counter her retaliation. By acting like a fool, he could make his reckless actions look like the work of an incompetent amateur who didn't know what he was doing. Furthermore, by annoying her, he manipulated Gretel into wanting to end the duel as quickly as possible, which meant she would be quick to play her strongest monsters in order to take him down as quickly as possible, little knowing that he had a surprise waiting for them. His plan worked perfectly. On a larger scale, Marcus was also setting up a HeadsIWinTailsYouLose situation. If Gretel lost, then she would have just lost to an idiot, but if she won, then she would have just wasted half an hour of her time.
** During the finals of the tournament, Marcus tricks the others into believing that his partner can read minds. This leads Denero (who is terrified that Marcus will recognise him as a son of thieves and expose him to the other duelists) to try and turn the others against Marcus. Both Denero and Jurrac Meteor believed they had outwitted Marcus, but it was in fact the other way around. Marcus lied about Gol'gar's mind-reading ability in order to gauge the reactions from the others, [[BatmanGambit knowing that the ones who panicked would be the ones with something to hide]], and [[UnwittingPawn Denero had fallen right into his trap.]]
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Probably the most absent-minded of the duelists.
* ColorCodedCharacters: He and Gol'gar have an amethyst aura.
* CombatPragmatist: He will do anything short of outright cheating to win, up to and including psychological warfare.
* ComplexityAddiction: He has a tendency to use rather elaborate battle strategies.
%%* ConfusionFu: Frequently uses this to throw his opponent of their game.
* {{Determinator}}:
** Marcus states outright that he can never be defeated, because he will always be back for more.
** This is one of the reason's losing to Haine effects him so badly. For the first time in his life, [[HeroicBSOD Marcus is too scared to get back up and fight.]]
* DissonantSerenity: The rather casual way he discusses killing people can be quite unsettling.
* EpicFail: During the battle royale, he screws up his entire strategy twice by misreading his own cards.
* {{Foil}}: To Peter and Gretel, being relaxed and quirky in contrast to their arrogance and {{jerkass}}ness.
* TheGadfly: He acts like an idiot in the first part of his duel against Gretel, partially [[ObfuscatingStupidity to lure her into a false sense of security]] and partially just to piss her off.
%%* HeroicBSOD: He falls into one after being tortured by Haine.
* IdleRich: Although he doesn't flaunt his wealth, he has no real interest in his family's business.
* INeedYouStronger: He plans to mold Gretel into a WorthyOpponent.
* IShallTauntYou: Frequently uses psychological warfare in his fights.
%%* ManipulativeBastard
%%* MindControl: Many of his cards have this power.
* NiceGuy: If you don't press his BerserkButton, he's actually rather generous and polite.
* NotSoStoic: His HeroicBSOD is the first time we see him show any real emotion.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: This is essentially Marcus's signature tactic. By feigning incompetence, he is able to gain an advantage over his opponent without the opponent ever realising the danger they're in until it's too late. Shown best in his CurbStompBattle against Denero's father. Ironically, that particular duel also {{deconstructed}} this trope, as his own partner began to lose faith in his ablilities.
* ParentalNeglect: While they genuinely love him and were never abusive, Marcus' parents never knew how to "handle" his quirks when he was growing up, and with the demands of their jobs, this lead them to be quite distant, leading Marcus to believe that everyone considers him a burden.
%%* PsychoticSmirk: It's basically his trademark.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Gol'gar's Red.
%%* TheRival:
%%** To Peter and Gretel.
%%** He's developing a strong rivalry with Denero at the moment.
%%* SecretTestOfCharacter: A lot of his taunts are actually this.
%%* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Often uses long words in his speech.
%%* SmugSmiler
* SpiritedCompetitor: His main goal is to find {{Worthy Opponent}}s and he hates those who claim to be talented without backing it up.
* TheSmartGuy: Shares this role with Caramon, taking on the role of quiet strategist as opposed to Caramon's role as the Tech Guy.
* TheStoic: He's likely the most calm and level-headed of the group. [[DissonantSerenity To a sometimes disturbing degree.]]
%%* TokenEvilTeammate: After what he did to the cultist.
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: Subverted; out of all the duelists and their spirits, he and Gol'Gar seem to get along the best.
* WhatTheHellHero: With basically the entire cast freaking out on him for his killing and [[MindRape mind-raping]] of the cultists.
%%* WorthyOpponent:
%%** Sees Peter as this.
%%** And is trying to mold Gretel into one.

->"I am your biggest fan!"
->"You know nothing, and so you understand nothing."

A student at the Academy who always wears sunglasses, has spiky hair, and is possibly one of the only normal guys in the cast. He seems to have a thing for Crystal. However David has shown a slightly darker and more Badass side to his personality. He curbstomped Denero into dust, completely turned his appearance around, and he appears to have a few more internalized problems than we thought. He claims to be an "Apophis Guardian", and was the one who told Avrum about the threat posed by Apophis. Even so, there are numerous mysterious facts about his personality, let alone his bizarre habit of sneaking around the Academy.
----

* AscendedFanboy: He gets to hang out with the duelists fighting Apophis, and he is, as stated, their biggest fan.
* BadassBystander:
** Not afraid to stand up against a scary Denero for the girl he seems to like, even less scared to tell him in a frank manner why he sucks, and then {{Curbstomp|Battle}} him. And that was when David was at his weakest.
** He even takes a stand against Apophis during the finale of the Apophis Arc.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Despite playing nice, it has been shown that David is a lot more deadly than he looks.
* CastingAShadow: His new deck is an Umbral Horror deck, focusing on locking the field down and making his opponent's plays more difficult to execute.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: He has a strange train of thought. He tends to say very odd, random things, and contributes to conversations in odd, inexplicable ways.
* CoolShades: David is never seen without his cool shades.
* CowardlyLion: In large groups, he seems shy and awkward. When he's in less packed spaces, he is far more courageous. {{Subverted|Trope}}, though, in that this is an act.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Cowers and acts afraid in his second or so appearance, and then he combines two powerful card effects in his first duel, making a powerful lock on his opponent. And he's even summoned Dark Magician, and used that and a powerful and competent strategy to disable and lock Denero down, and then quickly destroy him.
* {{Expy}}: In general, he seems reminiscent of [[Anime/YuGiOhZexal Shingetsu Rei]]. He is aloof and mysterious, while pretending to be goofy and unassuming around others, and has shown hints of a darker, more mysterious side of his personality. He even calls himself a "Apophis Guardian".
* FunctionalMagic: David is apparently capable of some sort of powerful magic, enough to hurt Apophis.
%%* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Before using some sort of spell to help the group fight against Apophis in the finale.
%%* GuileHero: Depending on what his true allegiance is, or if he even has one.
* HiddenDepths: It seems there is definitely more to David than meets the eye. And he definitely knows a lot more than he says. He is apparently very devoted to making sure the heroes face Apophis, but is willing to do anything to make sure this comes about. He also spies on people, and seems to have hidden a lot of issues.
* INeedYouStronger: He wants to try to duel Denero again in order to try to make him less of a jerk in order to make the party "complete". Though it has the nasty caveat of David inwardly threatening to "discard" Denero if he doesn't shape up.
* ItAmusedMe: Apparently, his real reason for flirting up a storm with Crystal is because he was either bored or he needed something to do.
* ManBehindTheMan: David was the one who told Avrum all about the Apophis Cult, the way to fight them, and what they were after, as well as the full details of the duelists with Duel Spirits. This technically makes him the man behind Avrum and his mother, who he gave information to that is strangely unrelated to Apophis altogether.
* MasterActor: He conceals his more courageous side under the guise of a cowardly nerd, and even this is revealed to be an act, in that he's actually vastly more guileful and powerful than we thought, and used the image of a secretly courageous person for his plans, whatever they may be.
* NiceGuy: David definitely seems pretty nice for such a shifty character.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He seems to be a somewhat dimwitted, cowardly sort when being watched by others, and who can only be courageous when fighting to defend a girl he likes. This front was momentarily dispelled when he became quite serious at the end of his duel with Denero, dishing out a very brutal TheReasonYouSuckSpeech. And ever since then, he simply stopped being quite so ditzy and cowardly, and has become more mysterious.
* StrawNihilist: David seems to view the empty void created by Apophis as very interesting, and only reluctantly aided the heroes. It certainly does make his true allegiances harder to ascertain.
%%* SunglassesAtNight: Even when he probably doesn't need them. Come to think of it, we've never seen David's eyes.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Its really amazing what some hygiene and proper bodily posture can do. David first looked like a barely washed basement dwelling geek, but after combing his hair, washing his face, and adjusting his posture, turns out he's quite muscular, tall, and [[MrFanservice impressive looking.]]
* TemptingFate: His first action in Season 2 is both this and being an amazing {{Troll}} toward Ravvas - making him put up a sign that says how many days its been since something bad has happened.
* WildCard:
** With more and more of his darker personality being revealed, it is becoming increasingly difficult to define where his loyalties lie. Is he [[TheMole a spy for Apophis]], or an AloofAlly for our side? Is he PlayingBothSides against each other, or is he [[AllPowerfulBystander content to watch the Fireworks]]?
** Then there's the question of who's agenda he serves. His own? [[BigBad Apophis's]]? The monsters sealed by Apophis? [[BigGood The other Gods]]? Or [[ThePowersThatBe someone else entirely]]?
* YouKillItYouBoughtIt: David recently defeated the European Champion, which some are convinced makes ''him'' the European Champion.

!!The Cult As a Whole:
A cult that worships the Serpent God Apophis and is trying to resurrect him into this world.
----
* AntiVillain: Many of the cultists are [[SlidingScaleOfAntivillains Type II Antivillains]], having been involuntarily {{mind rape}}d into becoming nihilistic psychopaths.
%%* AxCrazy: They worship [[OmnicidalManiac Apophis]], do we need to draw you a diagram?
* BadassNormal: The Constellar cultist is the most prolific HeroKiller out of all of them, despite not being in Haine's inner circle and therefore having no real powers besides her exceptional dueling skills.
* BodyHorror: Many of them have been horribly mutated by Haine's magic, not to mention the injuries they inflict on the duelists.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: A significant number of them are ordinary humans who have been corrupted by Haine.
* CombatSadomasochist: Some of them enjoy receiving pain just as much as they enjoy inflicting it.
%%* DarkActionGirl: The Constellar Cultist.
* HeroKiller: The Constellar Cultist defeated Jacques and very nearly did the same to both Peter and Caramon simultaneously. Hospitalizing all three duelists in the process.
* KnightOfCerebus: The Cult of Apophis present a very real and significant danger to the heroes; their appearance marks the darkening tone of the RP.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Two of the cultists are revealed to be Denero's parents.
* OmnicidalManiac: They plan to resurrect Apophis and use his powers to destroy all life.
* ReligionOfEvil: Apophis ('Apep) is the ancient Egyptian Gods of Darkness that tries to eat Ra the sun god every night.
* SlidingScaleOfVillainEffectiveness: Somewhere between High and Credible. While the duelists can fend them off, they've nevertheless managed to inflict some serious damage.
* YouHaveOutLivedYourUsefulness:
** Pretty much any Cultist who loses a duel suffers a FateWorseThanDeath.
** {{Averted}} once, though, only for the cultist in question to be unceremoniously executed by Gol'gar on Marcus's orders. It is likely because of that incident that Haine has begun executing any cultist that loses, since before he killed him, Marcus had Gol'gar read the cultist's mind to gather information on them.

!! Haine
->'''Played by:''' @/{{NickTheSwing}}

A strange young child who seems to work for the Cult of Apophis, he mainly appears to spy on the heroes, and gave out certain cards to his allies. Otherwise, he is basically a normal kid... or is he? Haine has also given some disturbing cards to the Cultists, and despite working for Apophis, its hinted he has his own agenda.
----
* ArchEnemy: While Haine is an enemy of all the duelists, his enmity with Marcus is far more personal than any of the others. While Haine seems to find most of the duelists amusing playthings, Marcus is the only one he genuinely despises, thanks to Marcus's taunts managing to get under his skin. Conversely, Haine's torture of Marcus and murder of Sylvestre, has given Marcus his first real personal stake in the war.
* AxCrazy: While most of the cultists serve Apophis for selfish gain or because they've been Brainwashed, Haine serves because he simply enjoys hurting people.
* BigBad: He's apparently the leader of the cultists, and the most dangerous enemy the duelists directly confront.
* CallBack: To [[Anime/YuGiOh Yami Marik]], even going so far as to use his Fiend/Immortality deck. Since it appears that he is Yami Marik somehow placed in a child's body, this makes sense.
* CanonCharacterAllAlong: Initially presented as an RP-original threat, Haine turns out to be possessed by Yami Marik.
%%* CombatSadomasochist: Par for the course with the cultists really, but he takes it several steps further.
* TheCorrupter: Most of his cultists were normal humans {{mind rape}}d into insanity by his powers.
%%* DarkIsEvil: He uses Yami Marik's Fiend-Immortality Deck.
%%* DeadlyUpgrade: Haine's cards. Just going by effects, they are quite powerful, and have an equal chance of ruining you as they do defeating your opponent.
* EnfanteTerrible: A psychotic HumanoidAbomination in the guise of a ten-year-old boy.
%%* EvilSorcerer: It seems he has some sort of power over what will happen to someone in a Shadow Game. Not to mention his use of Hatred Battle Booster on certain cultists.
* TheHeavy: He's the most prominent threat in the series, considering the official BigBad is also TheGhost.
%%* HumanoidAbomination: He looks like a normal human child. Emphasis on ''looks like.''
* LackOfEmpathy:
** Never mind that Roxas stands to lose everything in a Shadow Game, and that you usually don't want to take a lot of damage in a Shadow Game. By all appearances, Haine simply doesn't care.
** It's even worse than that. He was personally involved in making many of the cultists what they are now.
* MeaningfulName: Haine is French for 'hatred'.
* NightmareFace: A hint that Haine is not a normal kid. And just like Yami Marik, the longer the duel is going, the more nightmarish facial expressions show on his face.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: Hands out [[ArtifactOfDoom Artifacts of Doom]]? Check. Has a really, really warped idea of what's fun? Check. Has the most fun while watching a vicious Shadow Game? Check.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: He mostly just stood around shouting and saying random things, with no real consistency to his arguments. However, he is apparently some sort of EvilSorcerer, he is currently duelling Marcus and Sylvestre, and he apparently uses a nasty deck full of traps. And then there's how he's completely dominating two duelists at once, torturing them both while keeping his better plays to himself in order to extend the suffering. Not to mention what he did to Gol'gar.
* OlderThanHeLooks: Its hinted Haine was around during Battle City, and somehow knows about the battle between Seto and Yugi and Umbra and Lumis.[[note]]More interestingly, he also knows that Seto is the reincarnation of Set. And calls them Yu-chan, Set-chan, Mask 1 and Mask 2.[[/note]]
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: With the question answered that Haine is Yami Marik, and the knowledge that Yami Marik said that he was waiting for one thousand years.
* SuperEmpowering: He was involved with how the Cultists ended up, in the case of Skull Knight, turning him into an abomination, and in the case of the big cultist, prolonging his life, all using a card called Hatred Battle Booster.
%%** He gave each of the Cultists a powerful card.
%%* SlasherSmile: If only we could make him ''stop.''
* SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: He has a strange sort of magic he uses wherein he gazes into water and can see out of any water puddles.
* TortureTechnician: Just like in the original series, his deck is based around inflicting as much suffering as possible. A task he takes to with gleeful relish.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: What, exactly, is a kid doing seemingly living with the Apophis Cultists? And what is more, those cards he gave out have some outright disturbing names and effects. And then there's all the torture and the MindRape he partakes in.

* TheGhost: Has yet to actually appear in any fashion. Nevertheless, it is still the driving force behind all the cultists.
%%* GodIsEvil: ''Literally'' a god of evil.
* KnightOfCerebus: It's yet to appear, but the very idea of its existence and presence paints a feeling of menace that the previous TournamentArc never had
* MadeOfEvil: More to the point, it ''[[AnthropomorphicPersonification is]]'' evil.
* TheManBehindTheMan: He's the one the cultists all serve.
%%* MindRape: What it does during the "Nightmare Sequence".
* NoNonsenseNemesis: Apophis does not fuck around. Not even bothering with formalities, it annihilates the characters and their entire planet without hesitation. When their souls manage to somehow maintain awareness despite the loss of their bodies, It creates entire worlds, specifically designed to break their minds. When that fails, it forces their duel spirits to be its vessel as a form of psychological warfare.
* OmnicidalManiac: Its goal is to destroy all of existence.
* RealityMaker: The MindRape scenarios that Apophis created weren't illusions- he literally created seven different realities from the ground up.
%%* RealityWarper: Apophis makes it clear that he just does not give a fuck about our physical laws.
%%* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: Takes the form of a giant serpent.

[[folder:Tournament Staff]]
!!Lord Gabriel Ravvas

The tournament organizer and an industrialist, Ravvas seemed to expect something out of East Academy, and knew through unknown means that they were the ones who defeated Haine and Apophis. What this means about him is unclear, but his personality and preferences are clear enough, so it seems.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: He has not really done anything yet, but it is shown he not only knows about Haine, he also has unpleasant thoughts about the East Academy students. However, now he has shown an unusual tie to the Gusto tribe in as far as reasons he doesn't want Crystal to win, and is scheming against the protagonists from his position as Organizer.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He gives off this vibe, with his title of "Lord" and all. That and he feels he can basically do as he pleases due to being [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney incredibly rich]] and having [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections connections.]]
* BadLiar:: His excuse when Samuel catches him trying to direct Jason behind his back?
-->"I was making funny faces."
* BigBadWannabe: Ravvas tries to be impressive, he really does. Its just difficult due to [[GodOfEvil who]] came before him, and the fact he does not seem really competent.
* CardCarryingVillain: Used for comedy during his attempt to... well, it's not clear ''what'' he was trying to do when explaining the Hand of Isis.
%%* DiabolicalMastermind: He certainly thinks so.
* TheDragon: His would appear to be Megala, the spider-themed assistant that he seems to trust to do the dirty deeds he cannot be seen doing.
* EvilIsPetty: Ravvas was not content to minimalize the East Academy kids through his current plan, and had to try to get more win for himself out of the Marcus vs. Denero duel. It really bit him in the ass when Samuel came calling.
* EvilPlan: His would appear to be minimalizing the number of East Academy students who make it to the finals. He's not half bad at the planning and organizing, but Megala's help is necessary for the greater portions.
* {{Expy}}: Similar name? Check. Similar smugness? Check. Associates with a woman who has a spider motif? Check. Ravvas is a pretty obvious expy of [[Literature/TheWheelOfTime Rahvin.]]
* Fiction500: Basically owns the existing Island of Capri, having purchased the island from Italy.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: No matter what everyone else is disagreeing on, they all agree - Ravvas is just kind of pitiful.
* ItsPersonal: For whatever reason, Ravvas seems to view Crystal's continued presence and her Gusto monsters as a threat to him personally. Less so after she is defeated.
* OutGambitted: Trying to outsmart Samuel lead to him being humiliated and having his arm snapped in half.
* SmugSnake: Looks down upon the heroes, and clearly doubts they are the same people who struck down Haine if they behave the way they do.
* SpannerInTheWorks: His actions ultimately forced Samuel to reveal more information than he'd originally intended.
* UpperClassTwit: Very much upper class, enough that he can buy an entire island from the Italian Government. However, he's not really the most competent of enemies.

!! Megala

Ravvas' personal assistant and "minder". She is the voice of sanity in his dark operations, and is, while as skeevy as he is, much more goal oriented and less easily flustered. She mainly works to mind her boss' temperament and ego, and at the same time, speaks inwardly of dealing with his problems her own way.
----
* ArachnidAppearanceAndAttire: She wears a spider-print dress, she refers to her "webs of plans", and refers to her planning style as "striking quietly from darkness, like a spider".
%%* TheCombatPragmatist: She is arranging such for the impending duel with Jason, apparently. Her box it seems will "help him with shuffling."
* DeadpanSnarker: Most of her lines thus far have included some amount of sarcasm directed at ''someone''.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Her warning toward Roxas has vibes of this. For whatever reason, she warned him he might not like what he's gonna face out there, in some uncertain terms. Though given her tendencies and manipulations, it could be a further ploy.
* EvilGenius: She is the brains of Ravvas' outfit.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: Some levels of this are present in her in relation to Ravvas. Ravvas is basically a corrupt businessman. Megala, however, handles the day to day dirty affairs and makes use of some cunning ManipulativeBastard tactics to ensure that results are gained, in addition to preparing odd devices for the duels to come.
* {{Motifs}}: Megala's motif is spiders - heck, even her computer has spider print on it.
* SassySecretary: She basically snarks whenever Ravvas says or does something that she considers embarrassing or unfitting.
* ScaryShinyGlasses: Her glasses shine while she is plotting maliciously.
* ServileSnarker: Just because Ravvas is her boss does not mean he is immune to her verbal barbs.
* SmugSnake: While much calmer and more composed than her boss, she is also incredibly smug and looks down on the heroes.

!!Samuel Russel

A mysterious man working as part of Ravvas's tournament staff. At least at first glance. It soon becomes apparent that he has his own plans in mind and is far more competent than his quote-on-quote "boss".

He later reveals to the duelists that he's the head of a counter-terrorism agency looking to recruit them and that the entire tournament was created as a way to test their skills. Even then though, there's still doubts about how honest he's being.
----
* AffablyEvil: One possible interpretation. Whether he's actual evil or not, he has an almost unflappable aura of patience.
* BigGood: Possibly. It would certainly be the case if his claim about trying to recruit them is true.
%%* TheChessmaster: There are some pretty clear signs that his actions are working to a larger goal.
%%* TheDreaded: Samuel seems to really frighten Ravvas.
* GoodIsNotNice: Assuming he ''is'' one of the good guys, he's still willing to have someone's arm broken if they inconvenience him.

!!Captain Graeme Daniels

A creepy soldier wearing a full body suit and gas mask. Graeme is officially Ravvas's head of security but is clearly more loyal to Samuel than to Ravvas. Acting as the former's personal employer.
----
%%* CreepyGood: Assuming that he actually is one of the good guys.
* TheDreaded: Samuel only makes Ravvas nervous. ''Everyone'' is weary of Graeme.
* TheFaceless: We have seen nothing under that mask so far.
%%* GasMaskMooks: Though he's far higher ranking than a mook.
* LightningBruiser: Despite his size, he can move ''incredibly'' fast.
%%* NumberOne: To Samuel.
* TheQuietOne: He's had maybe three lines of dialogue.
* SoftSpokenSadist: His voice has been described as being surprisingly soft when he speaks and, good guy or not, he snapped Ravvas's arm in half when the latter started being an annoyance.
* TheStoic: To the point where Sigmund likens him to more like a living weapon than an actual human.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Team Heroic Lineage]]

!!The Team As A Whole:

* HeroAntagonist: Nothing about them suggests any malevolent intent, in fact they actually seem like pretty nice guys. They just happen to be dueling the protagonists.
* UnwittingPawn: Possibly, they don't seem to know much about Ravvas. But Ravvas seems intent on using them to get rid of people in his tournament he doesn't like.

!!Lionel Erris
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: Rather friendly for a guy whose nickname is "The Dark Angel".
* FallenAngel: Uses a deck based around both them and normal Angels and filling the graveyard.
* HeroKiller: Nonlethal example - he defeated Sigmund, one of the most Badass members of the heroes. Though not without taking more damage than he'd ever received in his entire career.
* InSeriesNickname: Both "The Dark Angel" and "The Lion".
%%* LonelyAtTheTop: He hints toward it when he asks Sigmund to be his friend.
* TheStoic: He does not emote very much.

!!Mortimer Veidt
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: Uses a Zombie deck, has a morbid personality and is an adorable ShrinkingViolet.
%%* EmoTeen
%% * ShrinkingViolet: Incredibly shy.

%%!!"Alphus"

%%!!Robert

!!Other Characters

[[folder:Duel Spirits]]
!!Machine King Prototype/Gamma-03

A rather quirky Duel Spirit that has two distinct personalities; called Regular!Gamma and Corrupt!Gamma for the sake of simplifying things.
----
* InsistentTerminology: Regular!Gamma refers to Jacques as Master Jacques, except when possessing him, which he calls him 'host'. Corrupt!Gamma always refers to Jacques as Jacques-kun.
* PaintingTheMedium: To distinguish between the two personalities, Regular!Gamma is in AC font, while Corrupt!Gamma is done with pink monotype.
%%* TheStoic: Regular!Gamma is this, especially in the duel against the cultist while possessing Jacques.

%%!!Golem Sentry

%%!!Rainbow Dragon

!!Dark General Freed
----
* FieldOfBlades: Freed's mindscape is one crossed over with [[http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Mystic_Plasma_Zone Mystic Plasma Zone]].

%%!!Jurrac Meteor

!!Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar
The greatest creation of the mysterious Alien race, Gol'gar is a strange being to be sure.
----
* AGodAmI: Refers to himself as a deity at one point.
%%* BashBrothers: He is the only friend Marcus has ever had until he arrived at the Academy.
%%* BerserkButton: Never threaten Marcus in his presence.
%%* BigBrotherMentor: Was this to Marcus when the latter was growing up.
%%* BloodKnight
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Originally, Gol'gar was portrayed as a PsychopathicManchild that spoke solely in WordSalad. However, this was toned down significantly. Justified in-universe as Gol'gar's mind fluctuating temporarily when his connection between the two worlds faltered. He looks forward to it happening again.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Occasionally. Though it's lessened since CerebusSyndrome kicked in.
* CombatPragmatist: Even more so than Marcus. To the Alien Race, the concept of a "war crime" is completely nonexistent. As they see it, they're trying to protect their allies and therefore they should do what ever it takes to win. This includes MindControl, MindRape, biological warfare, experimentations on their own people, even genocide.
* {{Foil}}: His personality, outlook, and relationship with his partner is almost the exact opposite of Jurrac Meteor. Surprisingly, there's been very little interaction between the two.
* ManChild: The Aliens are an entire race of men-children, due to the fact that 90% of their population are speed-grown, genetically-engineered clones, leaving them very little emotional maturity.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Marcus's Blue
%%* SmugSuper: He is the ultimate creation of the Alien race and he damn well knows it.
* StarfishAliens: His biology is clearly nothing like anything found on earth.
* TheTrickster: Aliens are seen as meddlers and tricksters on the other side.

%%!!Dragunity Phalanx

%%!!Evilswarm Ophion

!!Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon
----
* {{Invisibility}}: Although all Duel Spirits are InvisibleToNormals, he is able to make it so that no one is able to see him unless he want them to.
%%* {{Jerkass}}

%%!!Evolzar Laggia
