[[caption-width-right:281:Poseidon with the seven Sea Generals]]

The Mariners are servants of Poseidon, God of the seas and rival of Athena. They are equipped with Scales, Armors similar to the Cloths. Despite being only Seven generals (Not counting Thetis, who serves as [[TheDragon Julian/Poseidon's left-hand]]), they are strong as and possibly even stronger than a Gold Saint. Each one represents one of the Earth's oceans and an mythological sea monster.

Dwelling on the Underwater Sanctuary (otherwise known as Atlantis), the Mariners are tasked with protecting the Seven Pillars that sustain the seas, as well as being the leaders of his army.

[[folder:General tropes]]
* MeaningfulName: Their Scales are based on sea-related creatures and entities from Greek myths:
** KrakenAndLeviathan: Issak's Kraken Scale does not belong in the Greek corpus of myth, but it is added, nonetheless. Its usual depiction is that of a squid or octopus, but here we have a large [[SinisterStingrays manta ray]].
** OurHippocampsAreDifferent: Baian's Scale's inspiration is quite deceptive: although its name is translated as "sea horse", it fits more with the legend of the ''hippocampus''.
** OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Thetys's Scale is based on the more popular depiction of mermaids as a beautiful half-fish, half-woman female creature.
** OurNymphsAreDifferent: Caça's namesake is Limnades, a type of nymphs that dwell on freshwater sources (from Greek ''límnē'' 'lake, marsh'), although his Scale looks more like a cross between a salamander and a frog.
** OurSirensAreDifferent: On the other hand, Sorrento's is based on the Greek version of the Sirens: female creatures with avian bodies and human heads.
** SeaMonster: Skylla was a beautiful nymph punished to become a terrible sea monster that sinks ships.
* RuleOfSeven: The Sea Generals guard the pillars that represent the world's seven seas.
* YouShallNotPass: Their main role in the original manga and anime is to defend the seven pillars in Poseidon's underwater realm, and all of them are willing to both '''kill''' and '''die''' for it.

[[folder:Mermaid Thetis]]
!!Mermaid Thetis
!!! Voiced By: Creator/HiromiTsuru (JP), Maru Guerrero (Latin American Spanish)
[[quoteright:175:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM081-Thetys_7361.jpg]]

* AdaptationalBadass: A minor example, as the anime gives her a special technique, "Death Trap Coral", which makes corals grow on her opponents, immobilizing and suffocating them. She uses it to entrap Seiya and Shun, but they break free from it with sheer determination and Cosmo power.
* AffablyEvil: Very polite and soft-spoken, until she fights.
* ButNowIMustGo: Anime-only, when she changed back to her mermaid form and leaves.
* DesignatedGirlFight: Though she ''does'' give Shaina quite a run for her money.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: [[spoiler:Justified with her death in the manga, as Julian lost his memory and Sorrento doesn't know what Thetis fish form looked like.]]
* FragileSpeedster: Thetis proves to be very fast and agile, faster than the Bronze Saints Seiya and Shun who can't quite match her speed (and she slips out of the grasp of Shun's chain) and is seemingly on par with Shaina's speed, but she goes down from a single Thunder Claw from the Ophiuchus Saint.
* IOweYouMyLife: When Julian was young, he saved her (in fish form) when she was stuck on the land and on the verge of dying. This made her [[UndyingLoyalty very loyal]] to Julian, [[spoiler: and she [[HeroicSacrifice died saving him]] from drowning when Poseidon's temple collapsed.]]
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:She dies saving Julian in the manga.]]
* LadyOfWar: Elegant, fast, and damn hard to hit. Shaina had ''serious'' difficulties fighting her.
* MeaningfulName: Thetis is a goddess of the sea and leader of the Nereids (sea nymphs) in Myth/GreekMythology. As well as the mother of Achilles.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: In the anime, at the end, she [[spoiler: changes into a mermaid and you can see her leaping in and out of the water with the good guys staring at the sunset]].
* PerkyFemaleMinion: She is a mariner of low rank.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: After one of the Twelve Titans from Greek mythology. The mother of the rivers, springs, streams, fountains and clouds.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female Mariner so far. [[DudeLooksLikeALady Sorrento]] doesn't count.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In the end of the Poseidon Arc in the manga, Thetis [[spoiler: changed back into a fish. Julian comes back and finds her dead fish body and [[PietaPlagiarism holds it gently in his hands]] before releasing it into the sea]]. In the anime, it was happier where Thetis [[spoiler: changes into a mermaid and [[SparedByTheAdaptation you can see her leaping in and out of the water]] with the good guys staring at the sunset]].
* ThisWasHerTrueForm: In the manga, [[spoiler:Thetis was initially only a small fish that was rescued from dying on the seashore by an infant Julian, then miraculously gained a human form and served Poseidon (who was possessing young Julian's body) as the Mermaid Mariner. After Poseidon's soul is imprisoned by Athena again, Thetis does one last duty for Julian by saving him from drowning in the collapsing temple, but in doing so she dies herself, regaining her original fish form. Julian awakes and sees the already dead fish laying alongside him, but can't remember who the fish was (as his memories of being possessed by Poseidon are gone, as well as the memories of having saved it when he was a kid), however he feels an unexplained sadness and decides to release her inert body into the sea.]]

!!Sea Horse Baian
!!! Voiced By: Creator/ShowHayami (JP), Javier Rivero (Latin American Spanish), Luca Semeraro (It)
[[quoteright:177:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM011-Baian2_4320.jpg]]

* BadassCape: The only other Mariner besides Sea Dragon to have one. Its destruction at the hands of Seiya punctuated the later's HeroicSecondWind.
* BarrierWarrior: His effective invisible shield was nothing more than an air current created by his hands.
* BlowYouAway: He attacked Seiya using his mighty '''God Breath''', which was a gale of immense destructive force.
* FlatCharacter: By far the least developed Mariner. He's just a generic villain for Seiya to kick ass.
* {{Foil}}: To Seiya. He's the marine horse (Hippocampus) to his aerial horse. (Pegasus)
* MakingASplash: '''Rising Billows''', his strongest attack, was a powerful rising tidal wave capable of sending the enemy from the depths of the seas all the way to its surface.
* NoNameGiven: He and Sea Dragon [[spoiler: (before TheReveal)]] in the Italian dub don't even get a name, they're just called after their Scales (Sea Horse and Sea Dragon respectively).
* SmugSuper: He is arrogant and very confident in his defense. This becomes the cause of his defeat.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Baian or Bian?
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: {{Exploited|Trope}}. Seiya notes that his fighting style is ''very'' similar to Misty's. Remembering his battle with Misty, and benefiting from the experience he gained in it, Seiya was able to overcome Baian's Air Barrier in the same way he did with Misty's and disabled it with his "Pegasus Ryuu Sei Ken".
* ThisCannotBe: Baian reaction when Seiya damages his Sea Horse Scales, whose hardness and endurance which he thought to be equal to that of a Gold Cloth.
* VillainousBreakdown: When Seiya quickly takes the upper hand on him and tells him that he's just a SmugSuper [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech without real merits.]]

[[folder:Scylla Io]]
!!Scylla Io
!!! Voiced By: Issei Futamata (JP), Creator/GerardoReyero (Latin American Spanish), Massimiliano Lotti (It)
[[quoteright:164:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM021-Io2_6479.jpg]]

* TheBeastmaster: His main power is to summon the abilities of six creatures (a wolf, a bear, a bat, a giant bee, an eagle and a snake).
* BlowYouAway: His secret attack '''Big Tornado'''.
* {{Bowdlerise}}: Downplayed, the Italian dub specifies that the animals used by Scylla are actually illusions, while in the manga and original dub the summoned beasts are real. Possibly to downplay the violent image of Shun being mauled by wild beasts.
* DefiantToTheEnd: Prefers to go down fighting towards Shun ''despite'' being bound in chains, trying to block Shun's direct attack (via Libra Cloth's weapons) on the pillar he protected. Shun is very impressed at his UndyingLoyalty to Poseidon and expresses sadness at his passing.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Not using the full power of his beasts the first time around proved to be a big mistake, as by the time he wanted to finish off Shun, he - and the Andromeda Chain - had figured a way to neutralize each of them.
* DubNameChange: Called "Kyra" in Italy, oddly enough.
* FinalSpeech: Before passing, he warns Shun that if he takes mercy on his enemies, [[SuicidalPacifism it will mean his end]].
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: From [[GenderBlenderName Io]] the sea nymph in Myth/GreekMythology.
* SenselessSacrifice: Tries to keep Shun from destroying his pillar by shielding it with his body. Unfortunately, he never had a chance due to him being bounded up and the pillar itself being too big to protect all of it.

[[folder:Chrysaor Krishna]]
!!Chrysaor Krishna
!!! Voiced By: Creator/MasaharuSato (JP), Rafael Rivera (Latin American Spanish), Tony Fuochi (It)
[[quoteright:198:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM031-Krishna2_3730.jpg]]

* AdaptationDyeJob: In Kurumada's manga, Krishna's hair is blonde. In the anime adaptation, it was modified to white to generate a better color balance and contrast.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: Chrysaor's wields a Golden Lance capable of piercing through every known defense. Chrysaor's spear soon proves its piercing power by easily breaking through Shiryu's Cloth and its fabled Dragon Shield. It is important to note that, despite what the manga tells you, Chrysaor ''doesn't'' mean "golden lance", but "golden sword", making this one one of the huge liberties of ''Saint Seiya'' with Greek Mythology and language.
* IronicName: Unintentional example. The manga claims Chrysaor means "golden lance", hence his weapon of choice. In reality, his name means "golden sword", which is ironic considering Shiryu destroyed his pillar with the sword of the Capricorn Gold Cloth's Excalibur wielded by a mere bronze.
* MeditationPowerup: After his invincible Golden Spear is destroyed, Chrysaor Krishna assumes a meditating position to draw energy from the Kundalini. The point is driven even further when his Chakras manifest as a straight line and Shiryu must destroy them with Excalibur in order to defeat Krishna.
* NobleDemon: In a similar vein to Black Dragon, Shura and Siegfried, he is a noble warrior fighting for the wrong cause, and like the above he is very well-spoken about his beliefs, not just a MartyrWithoutACause. When Shiryu fails to use Excalibur the first time, Chrysaor mocks Shiryu's arrogance and decides to let him live, turning his back on the wounded Saint.
* TokenMinority: The only dark-skinned Mariner of the group. Before you ask, he's from [[{{UsefulNotes/SriLanka}} Sri Lanka]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He approves of Poseidon's plan to destroy the corrupted humanity, by flooding the world and then re-creating a new civilization, but he's far less abrasive and arrogant than most of Poseidon's other minions. Shiryu ends up considering him a very WorthyOpponent who tested him to his limits and was DefiantToTheEnd.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: In the Italian dub, he's called "Lemuri" of Salamander (with Shun pointing out the MeaningfulName [[note]] after Lemures, the Roman wraiths [[/note]]). Furthermore, in the original, he's never mentioned to be the LastOfHisKind, and the reason why he loses his cool in front of his illusionary copy made by [[spoiler: Ikki]] is because "he can't bring himself to harm someone [[TheFightingNarcissist as handsome as himself]].
* AnimalBattleAura: A massive salamander manifests when he uses his Salamander Shock.
* CallingYourAttacks: His attack '''Salamander Shock'''. But it is rather weak.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Had he bothered to [[spoiler:scan Ikki's mind thoroughly, he could've found about Esmeralda earlier, therefor using her form to kill him]]. He could have won the war for Poseidon's side right there!
* DirtyCoward: Instead of fighting, he prefers tricking his opponents with the power to look into their hearts and torture them with their most precious memories or loved ones.
* DubNameChange: In the Italian dub, he's called "Lemuri" of Salamander (with Shun pointing out the MeaningfulName [[note]] after Lemures, the Roman wraiths [[/note]]). Furthermore, he's never mentioned to be the LastOfHisKind, and the reason why he loses his cool in front of his illusionary copy made by [[spoiler: Ikki]] is because "he can't bring himself to harm someone [[TheFightingNarcissist as handsome as himself]].
* DyingDream: In his last moments, he imagined himself killing Ikki by taking Esmeralda's form.
* {{Gonk}}: We never get a proper look at his face, but he SEEMS to be one.
* LastOfHisKind: Only in the Italian dub. He's proud of it too. [[spoiler: Ikki uses his MindRape against him by pretending that ThereIsAnother.]]
* LeanAndMean: He is the most vicious Marina General as he manipulates his enemies' feelings and strikes them at their most vulnerable moment.
* MasterOfIllusion: Caça can mimic the appearance and personality of others. He can't copy techniques, but his illusion was convincing enough to make Hyoga lowers his guard when he impersonate Camus, and Caça looked like he was using his chains when he managed to land a wound on Ikki's cheek.
* NonIndicativeName: Lymniades are a type of Naiad, a.k.a. a river nymph. Caça's Scale and aura depict instead a massive green Salamander.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Overlaps with AndThisIsFor. Caça finds himself in the receiving end of an incredibly satisfactory combination of this at the hands of [[spoiler:Ikki]].
* {{Telepathy}}: Can read the mind of his oponents to learn about their loved ones and impersonate them in combat.
* ShapeshifterGuiltTrip: His whole shtick.
* SpikesOfVillainy: His Scales' armor has rather sharp, pointy "fins" or protrusions all over it, and he's probably the cruelest of all the Mariners.
* TooDumbToLive: Lampshaded. During his fight agaisnt Ikki, Caça decides to use his shapeshift ability right in front of the Phoenix Saint. Not only that, but he transformed into Shun, who was lying unconscious just next to him. Naturally, Ikki just punches through the illusion without a shred of hesitation, when Caça states he did consider the aforementioned points, and that his powers had never failed him before.

[[folder:Kraken Isaac]]
!!Kraken Isaac
!!! Voiced By: Creator/RyuseiNakao (JP), Creator/SalvadorDelgado (Latin American Spanish), Federico Danti (It)
[[quoteright:220:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM051-Isaac_488.jpg]]

* AnIcePerson: Most of Isaac's attacks are ice based; like Hyoga, he can also project his Cosmo to freeze objects, as shown by his first appearance when he instantly turned the wind into snow.
* BerserkButton: [[MisappliedPhlebotinum People using great power for selfish and/or petty reasons]]. He was utterly enraged when he found out that Hyoga's primary motivation to become a Saint was to acquire the power he needed in order to visit his dead mother, whose ship-wreck laid at the bottom of the Siberian Sea.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: Hyoga's.
* DubNameChange: From Isaac to Abadir [[note]] according to Greek Mythology, the stone Zeus fed to his father [[/note]] in Italy.
* EvilFormerFriend: Overlaps with RivalTurnedEvil, as he was both a friend and rival to Hyoga back in their childhood when they both were training under Camus' (or the Crystal Saint's in the anime) tutelage to become the next Cygnus Saint.
* EyeScream: The result of saving Hyoga's life; a spiky mass of ice tore through his eye as he was being dragged by underwater currents trying to save Hyoga. He inflicts a wound to Hyoga's eye in return.
* GracefulLoser: As he lies in the ground about to die, he congratulates Hyoga, and tells him of his suspicions about Sea Dragon Kanon.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Back when both Hyoga and him were undergoing Saint training, Isaac was this, being zealous and adamant in his pursuit of ideal justice. He believed Hyoga's motivation to become a Saint was the same as his own, to fight for the sake of justice, but was furious when he found the truth about it and upon hearing it confirmed by Hyoga himself, an enraged Isaac viciously attacked and battered him to a pulp, but eventually relented and let him go, not before breaking the thick layer of ice for him. Before walking away, he advised Hyoga to be careful about the dangerous sea currents in the depths, however despite Isaac's warnings Hyoga was dragged by the currents anyway. Noticing Hyoga was not returning from the sea, Isaac dove after him and succeeded in saving his friend from drowning in the cold currents, but then he himself was dragged into a maelstrom and Hyoga never saw him again... [[RivalTurnedEvil until he resurfaced as a Mariner General serving Poseidon]].
* KnightTemplar: Even when he was only a Saint candidate in training along with Hyoga, Isaac admired the Kraken because it would sink only ships with sinful people (such as pirates) on them. Hyoga questions this, as it would entail killing innocent people who just happened to be on board as well. Isaac still calls it the best way of making justice. From there, to being chosen by the Scales of Kraken as their bearer, thereby gaining the rank of Mariner General in the service of Poseidon, to wholeheartedly agreeing with the Sea God's plan to eradicate a seemingly corrupted mankind with massive floodings, there were but small steps.
* KickTheDog: Or better said, the puppy, as he kicks poor little Kiki when he brings Hyoga the Libra Cloth. That pisses Hyoga off enough to return to the fight.
* KrakenAndLeviathan: However this particular Kraken has no CombatTentacles and looks like a giant Manta Ray fish. Even in his youth, Isaac [[AdmiringTheAbomination admired the creature]], as he believed in the rumors about it attacking only ships with wicked people, such as pirates and other criminals, seeing this as the ultimate form of justice. [[spoiler:It is implied that the Kraken saved him from drowning in the Arctic sea after he rescued Hyoga, as well]].
* RememberTheNewGuy: To be such an important person in Hyoga's life, it's quite notable that he didn't mention him before the ''Poseidon Arc'', though it could be surmised that Hyoga was hiding it all behind a veil of aloofness.
* TheUnfettered: What he always aspired to be, even before becoming a Mariner General of Poseidon.
* WouldHurtAChild: Poor Kiki, as already said.

!!!Voiced by: Creator/YokuShioya (JP), Jorge Roig Jr. (Latin American Spanish) Enrico Carabelli [[note]] Asgard Arc[[/note]], Alberto Mancioppi [[note]] Poseidon arc[[/note]] (It)
[[quoteright:157:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/PM061-Sorrento2_4097.jpg]]

* ActionSurvivor: [[spoiler: He is the only Mariner to survive, and has been accompanying Julian in their journey to [[MustMakeAmends help the people]] who were harmed by Poseidon's acts.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Sorrento can pass for a woman very easily, if not for a fact that he is voiced by a man and [[spoiler: later on is seen wearing a masculine male vest while accompanying Julian.]]
* EnemyMine: When the final Marine General, Sea Dragon Kanon, revealed the plan he started 13 years ago to manipulate Poseidon into starting the war with Athena so that he could take over, Sorrento realized that all of the Generals were only {{Unwitting Pawn}}s used by Kanon to achieve his goal of world domination. Seeing that it was wrong to awaken Poseidon in this era, he helped Phoenix Ikki destroy the Pillar of the North Atlantic Ocean.
* DubNameChange: Known as Syria in the Italian dub. Averted by his techniques, since in the same dub he averts CallingYourAttacks.
* MusicalAssassin: The enchanted music from Sorrento's flute is a powerful weapon:
** '''Dead End Symphony''': Sorrento's signature technique. He plays a song on his flute, which weakens his opponent to the point that they are unable to fight back. The music directly resonates within the opponent's brain, meaning that even if the opponent can not physically hear the song, they would still be affected.
** '''Dead End Climax''': Once Sorrento reaches the climax of his song, the music he plays will kill his opponent by destroying their mind.
* NumberTwo: The second in command.
* NotQuiteDead: Twice, if you count his supposed death in the Asgard Saga against Siegfried.
* OhCrap:
** In the manga, Sorrento gets ''terrified'' when Athena shows up behind him during his raid on the hospital, apparently due to her insanely powerful cosmos. Later on, however, he explains to Kanon that he got scared not because her cosmos was so strong, but because it was so peaceful and full of love for humanity, showing that Athena was more than willing to sacrifice herself for them. This would mean that Poseidon's efforts to clean up humanity in the name of justice would be AllForNothing, and the thought of fighting for the wrong side scared the crap out of Sorrento.
** Anime-only, he has this reaction to Siegfried [[UnflinchingWalk resisting his attacks even at the brink of death and getting into melee range]], [[HorrifyingTheHorror to the point where he started screaming in terror once the God Warrior got his hands on him.]]
* TechnicolorEyes: Light red.
* WhatTheHellHero: To Kanon, after finding out his plans. To the point of trying to kill him.
* UndyingLoyalty: After the Poseidon Saga he remains by Julian's side, helping him aid the victims of Poseidon's flood.
* WingsDoNothing: They are just decorative.

* AdaptationDyeJob: He's blonde in the manga. In the anime adaptation Kanon's hair color was modified to blue - of a darker shade than [[spoiler: Saga]].
* BadassCape: The only other Mariner who has one, the other is Baian.
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:Zigzagged with his twin Saga. In the beginning, Kanon was evil and Saga was good, but Saga went insane for having a SuperpoweredEvilSide (comes with being the *Gemini* Saint, of all Gold Saints) and turned evil. Kanon *knew* his brother would become evil and used it to his advantage, staging an epic GambitRoulette that covers several arcs of the story (two in the manga, three in the anime), where Saga was the first BigBad and Kanon was the ManBehindTheMan from both him ''and'' his boss. However, later Kanon pulls a HeelFaceTurn and joins the good guys, while Saga turns evil... apparently.]]
* CallingYourAttacks:
** '''Gold Triangle''': It opens a dimensional rift that sends his enemies inside the Bermuda Triangle.
** [[spoiler:'''Galaxian Explosion''': Like his brother, Kanon launches an attack of intense power that assimilates a myriad of planets and galaxies destroying everything on their path.]]
** [[spoiler: '''Genrouken''': A weaker version from the Genromaoken that simply paralyzes the enemy rather than control them.]]
* DinosaursAreDragons: [[http://saintseiya.wikia.com/wiki/Sea_Dragon_Scale His Sea Dragon Scale]], rather than based on typical depiction of sea dragons/serpent in mythology, seems to be based off [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plesiosauria Plesiosauria]], a type of prehistoric marine reptile.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: ''No pun intended.'' He tries to use Poseidon to rule the world.
* EleventhHourRanger: [[spoiler:To the Gold Saints during the Hades arc.]]
* EvilTwin: [[spoiler:To Saga. Ironically enough, Kanon later becomes the ''good'' twin to Saga during the whole Hades saga, after Kanon made a HeelFaceTurn, while Saga himself got resurrected by Hades and was seemingly working for him.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:He becomes the Gemini Saint after Saga in the Hades arc.]]
* GeniusBruiser:
** He is responsible for most of the conflicts within the classic series. He manipulated Poseidon into doing his bidding, [[spoiler:awakened the evil in Saga's heart and drove him into insanity]], and ALMOST SUCCEEDED in gaining world domination until he made the fatal error of underestimating the main Bronzies.
** Played with in the Hades Arc, [[spoiler:as Kanon is shown to be just as powerful as Saga, but he's not as adept as his twin on the techniques of the Gemini Saint. This still makes him so powerful that he kills the most Specters in the underworld out of all the Gold Saints.]]
* GoodIsNotNice: [[spoiler:Even after joining Athena's side, Kanon retains his ruthless personality and harsh characteristics, scolding Pegasus Seiya and Andromeda Shun that they should never hesitate to finish their enemies, because their hesitation was a weakness that their enemies would take advantage of. However, he doesn't act as smugly as he did in Poseidon Arc.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: Technically speaking, he is this for Sanctuary arc. [[spoiler:Saga's SuperPoweredEvilSide was the BigBad of the Sanctuary arc, but this guy was the one who pushed Saga over his mental limit and awakened that evil side.]]
* LineOfSightName: When confronting Poseidon, the latter asks his name. Kanon blanks out for a moment before witnessing the Sea Dragon Scale, and introducing himself as "Sea Dragon".
* TheManBehindTheMan: He manipulated Poseidon into starting the war with Athena so that he could take over.
* MasterOfIllusion: Even more so than his twin brother Saga, who simply limited the use of his own illusory abilities to within the Gemini Temple when the main Bronzes tried to make their way through during the 12 Temples arc (though it's still implied that Saga is just as powerful, if not more than Kanon when it comes to the use of illusions — Kanon simply makes the most use of them). In the Inferno arc of the Hades saga, Kanon secretly uses his illusion powers on Balrog Lune, tricking him into believing he has shredded Shun's body into pieces with his whip and that Hades' soul is now angry at him for having disintegrated [[DemonicPossession his chosen vessel body]], in order to make him reveal the real Hades' location. In the process, Kanon also makes himself invisible to both Lune and Radamanthys, until the latter wises up and realizes what's going on.
** It is thus implied that Kanon's illusory powers (and those of his brother Saga) are [[PerceptionFilter derived from mental control]]; rather than being optical illusions or invisibility, Kanon does not manipulate light to deceive the eye and create illusions or invisibility, instead, he does so by manipulating the brain of his victims so that they do not mentally perceive objects (or people) as they are.
* MustMakeAmends: [[spoiler:In the Hades Saga. After being banished, he returned to try and help defend the Sanctuary for Athena instead of his brother.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Has the mother of reckonings when Ikki points out he only lived through the Cape Sunion prison because Athena's Cosmo saved him. He is at first completely dumbstruck, faced with such all-encompassing love that for all his plotting and cynicism, he just can't deny or reject outright. At first he just tries to dismiss the claim by saying everything is over anyway, since the SoulJar for Poseidon is sealed with Athena. But then, when the realization [[IOweYouMyLife he owes Athena his life]] sank in, it prompted him to perform a HeroicSacrifice in the manga, and his HeelFaceTurn in the Hades arc.
* OneManArmy: [[spoiler: After his HeelFaceTurn and becoming the Gemini Saint, in the Hades Arc he singlehandedly kills more Specters than half the Gold Saints combined. Only Shaka and Dohko can compare in kill counts. He even has the honor of being the only Gold Saint to kill a Judge in the classic series (Rhadamanthys), as Ikki kills Aiacos, while Minos is obliterated by the hyperdimension barrier at the entrance of Elysium.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to [[spoiler: Saga's]] blue.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Averted. [[spoiler: At a very critical moment of the battle, Poseidon launched his trident towards Athena and Kanon suddenly jumped forward, [[TakingTheBullet taking the sharp end of the spear with his chest]] and protecting the goddess in the process. Before falling unconscious, Kanon begged Athena for forgiveness. But he survived and returns in the Hades arc.]]
* ReformedButRejected: [[spoiler:In the Hades saga, Milo did not trust him and performed a SecretTestOfCharacter to check if he was willing to die for Athena. He passes the test, logically.]]
* ReformedButNotTamed: [[spoiler:Even while fighting on Athena's side, he's still a brutal and unyielding warrior who doesn't hesitate when it comes to inflicting swift and vicious retribution upon his enemies.]]
* SpaceMaster: The '''Golden Triangle''' is a move that bends space and time to open an alternate dimension, where the opponent is sent, similar to "Another Dimension". Once inside, one is trapped unless the user lets them out, or they are distracted, and forced to stop the technique. It seems to be unique to the Sea Dragon; he can use the technique to send his foe into the Bermuda Triangle since he is the Guardian of the North Atlantic Ocean Pillar.
* TakingTheBullet: In the manga, during the final battle against Poseidon, the Sea God throws his trident against Athena, but Kanon (after realizing he owes his life to her) shields her with his own body. This was changed to Seiya doing the deed in the anime.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: At the end of the "Chapter: Inferno" in Hades arc. Utilizing a kamikaze attack, Kanon grabbed Rhadamanthys from the back and launched both bodies into the air. The Judge of Hell was defeated when Kanon unleashed his Galaxian Explosion, with all his might, killing himself along with the Wyvern Specter.]]
