All principal heroines in ''VisualNovel/KoihimeMusou'' are [[{{expy}} expies]] of the (male) generals from the original ''Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms'' epic and the former's names are derived from the latter's by reading the original Chinese characters in their names as kanji. Additionally, each sport a true, "private" name usually reserved for close friends, shown in the folder's title alongside their [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_style_name courtesy name]].
\
Because the first ''Koihime † Musou'' game is set in its own continuity and has many instances of EarlyInstallmentWeirdness, the characters' profiles will be based on the more polished and recent ''Shin Koihime † Musou -Kakumei-'' remakes.

A modern day Japanese student who was sent back in time for unknown reasons, and can end up in either of the Three Kingdoms depending on the games. In the first game, he's sent to the past when he attempted to stop a mysterious student from stealing an ancient Chinese mirror within the school's collection and ended up breaking the mirror in the process, and ends up becoming the leader of the Shoku Kingdom. Due to his abnormal costume (his school uniform) and manner of speech (English loanwords), he is mistaken to be the "Messenger from Heaven" who is said to be able to bring peace to China.
\
In the ''Kakumei'' remakes, he's instead sent in ancient China during his sleep without knowing why, and he joins one of the Three Kingdoms as the "Messenger from Heaven" depending of the game: ''Souten no Haou'' makes him an official working under Sousou and her kingdom of Gi, ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' makes him part of the Son family to become the breeder of the kingdom of Go in the hopes of spreading his "heavenly genes", and ''Ryuuki no Taimou'' takes a similar direction to the original game, in which he becomes the co-leader of Shoku.
----
* AboveTheInfluence: Upon seeing Taishiji drunk on their fateful night, he refused to sleep even as she was seducing him under the influence, preferring to wait for her actual consent.
* AgeGapRomance: Several of his love interests are adults in their prime, including actual mothers with grown children.
* AlternateSelf: An alternate version of him also appears in the bonus scenarios of the ''Kakumei'' remakes unlocked after beating the main campaign once, ''Maiden Chronicles'', alongside the dimensional travallers Kada, Chousen and Himiko.
* AmIJustAToyToYou: One of the reasons he turns down the Ka sisters at first, as they were known to seduce many men to extort money and power from them.
* BabiesEverAfter: In the very last scene of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' set several years later, he has a child with every commander of Go (except Shaoren), living a happy life with all of ten of them.
* BackFromTheDead: The last story of ''Maiden Chronicles'' reveals that Kazuto from the ''Souten no Haou'' timeline was saved in extremis by the dimensional travelers, and lost his memory as a result. After several trips with him across several dimensions, Kazuto recovers his memory and is allowed to go back to his original world, returning to Sousou.
* BadassNormal: He has an above-average level in kendo, allowing him to defend himself in times of need but combat isn't really his forte. He also has a good grasp of military tactics. He's even able to take down a ''dragon'' with some faceless soldiers.
* BatmanGambit: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', he devises a plan to ensure Go's independence: Revealing his status as the Messenger from Heaven to Enjutsu, then give her the Imperial Seal of China, knowing she would quickly abuse her power with it and proclaim herself Empress. After the Anti-Toutaku alliance is disbanded, nobody considers Enjutsu the legitimate ruler of China when she uses the Imperial Seal to declare herself Empress and none of the warlords come to her aid when Go declares its independence.
* BenevolentBoss: As the captain of the city police force of Gi and the manager of the Chou sisters. Despite lacking in experience, the girls think fondly of him and appreciate his efforts to be a good-natured leader.
* BigDamnHeroes: He saves Karin and Suu from certain death in ''Souten no Haou'' after seeing it in a dream. Thanks to his actions, he managed to defend her castle long enough until reinforcements arrived.
* BishieSparkle: When Ashe gets her glasses cleaned, she is unable to look at him due to his shininess reflecting on her glasses.
* ButNowIMustGo: At the end of SKM Gi's route and ''Souten no Haou'', he's sent back to his world, having changed history too much by allowing Sousou to conquer all of China.
* CaptainSmoothAndSergeantRough: When working for Gi, he's a relatively likable captain to his squad while Nagi, his direct subordinate, has to regularly remind her teammates to do what they're paid for, and can go ballistic when she sees them playing around doing nothing.
* CessationOfExistence: He disappears at the end of ''Souten no Haou'', in such a way he cannot be resurrected.
* ChickMagnet: Almost all of the female cast fall in love with him across the series.
* ChivalrousPervert: Definitely has his perverted side, but he's actually very kind to girls.
* ChosenConceptionPartner: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', he becomes the breeder of Go at the request of its leader Yenren, who wants to spread his blood as much as possible.
* TheChosenOne: To the Shoku and Go faction, because of an ancient prophecy announcing his arrival from the sky.
* CipherScything: He does not exist in the {{Animated Adaptation}}s.
* CombatPragmatist: Because of his average constitution, he often has to rely on tricks and outside-the-box thinking to survive. On one instance, he manages to defeat Shunran (albeit with a handicap) in a sparring by distracting her and [[LookBehindYou pretending Karin was behind her in sexy clothes.]]
* TheConfidant: Upon meeting Kazuto in ''Souten no Haou'', Sonken confides to him her insecurities with her role as Sonsaku's successor.
* TheConsigliere: In ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', he becomes Ryuubi's advisor and moral support.
* CoolBigBro: Usually considered as such to smaller characters like Rinrin or Kii.
* CowardlyLion:
** In Gi's route, despite being afraid to go into his first battle with the other generals, he still manages to survive and witness all of it, even though he fainted at the end.
** Ditto in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', in which he starts participating in battles alongside Sonsaku.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: Before disappearing at the end of Gi's route, he has a last talk with Karin and manages to confess his love for her in a very heartrending scene.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: The alternate Kazuto from ''Maiden Chronicles'' turns out to be the protagonist of ''Souten no Haou'' who lost his memory, who was given a SecretTestOfCharacter by the dimensional travelers to see if he is worthy of staying in his original world. He succeeds, and is sent back to Sousou.
* EmbarrassingNickname: During his time in Go, most of the older characters call him by the rather derisive nickname of "little boy", emphasizing his lack of experience in battle and youthfulness.
* FemaleFighterMaleHandler: He has this dynamic with almost every character of the series, since he's not really a fighter but his knowledge from the modern world does have its merits.
* FirstPersonSmartass: He's not above some snarky remarks in his inner thoughts when interacting with girls.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: Having travelled to the past, he has to adapt to his new lifestyle without electricity nor friends.
* GenreSavvy: Thanks to his broad knowledge of the Three Kingdoms and modern concepts from his world, he can pull off some interesting strategies who can sometimes rival those of his fellow tacticians. He also uses it in ''Sengoku Koihime'', by training his nephew to prepare him for his own journey to the past, meaning he's much more prepared than he was.
* GoOutWithASmile: In his last conversation with Karin in ''Souten no Haou'', he keeps smiling right before disappearing, happy to have been able to help her conquer China at her side.
* GratuitousEnglish: Being a Japanese from the Heisei Era, he uses a lot of English words in his dialog, much to the confusion of the warriors.
* TheHeart: He has a very reassuring presence and acts as a moral support to the girls, even though he'd like to be more proactive. He also discusses his role with Koumei in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' before the Battle of Red Cliffs, who points out the importance of being TheHeart despite his lack of skill in battles and war tactics.
* HeirToTheDojo: The third generation to his kendo-practicing family.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Invoked by his allies, but ultimately subverted as this proves to be his trump card.
* IgnoreTheFanservice: Downplayed. When faced with the GoldDigger Ka sisters, known for seducing many men and the emperor of Kan, he managed to resist many of their attempts to seduce him for a while, but he eventually gives in after seeing their genuine love for him.
* JackOfAllStats: While he has decent skills in kendo, he's not as powerful as the female warriors, and he's smart enough to do basic tactics but not as much as the female tacticians.
* MadeOfIron: Played for laughs. Some of the Base Phase Events with aggressive characters such as Kakouton or Jun'iku often has him getting AmusingInjuries or withstanding physical abuse without much damage.
* MagneticHero: He seems to have a natural talent to gather a lot of friends and companions thanks to his trusting personality and overall niceness when acting as the "Messenger from Heaven" in Shoku. Starting from ''Shin Koihime'', he shares this role with Sousou in Gi and Ryuubi in Shoku.
* MarryThemAll: Some spinoffs and endings in the series usually involve Kazuto marrying most of the female cast.
* MasterActor: He can be very convincing when acting as someone he's not.
** When meeting Enjutsu, it turns out he's pretty good at acting as the Messenger from Heaven and fool her into thinking he has actual heavenly powers and knowledge. He can also imitate the mannerisms of a butler, when roleplaying as Renfa's servant in one of her events.
** In the ''False Prophet'' scenario of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', he does it again to fool the entire Gi army to spread panic and allow Go and Shoku to defeat it in a skirmish.
* MistressAndServantBoy: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', he has this relationship with Yenren, who employs him as the "stallion of Go" while being his caretaker.
* MoralityPet: During his time in Gi, his presence slowly influences Sousou, who progressively becomes a more heroic person over the events of the game, culminating in her sparing all of her enemies following the final battle against Shoku.
* MutualMasquerade: In ''Souten no Haou'', he leads Gi's army in a few skirmishes against Go's army led by Sonken Chuubou. He actually meets her a few times between battles and even befriends her before knowing her true identity, believing her to be a merchant of sorts.
* NiceGuy: In fact, he's so nice and trusting that he's able to win over the hearts of many girls, even the most abrasive.
* NonActionGuy: Subverted. As HeirToTheDojo, Kazuto's not '''terrible''' in an ordinary fight. Unfortunately, he landed in a world full of terrifying superwomen. After some training, he does become strong enough to take down soldiers and bandits, but he's still weaker than the female cast.
* PointOfDivergence: His very presence in the Three Kingdoms can cause history to take a very different turn, the most notable example being his contribution to Sousou's conquest of China in ''Souten no Haou'', despite her historical counterpart failing to do so.
* OminousMessageFromTheFuture: Downplayed. He has broad knowledge of the history of the Three Kingdoms, but the heroines prefer not to use it too much.
** In ''Souten no Haou'', Sousou prefers not to rely on his knowledge from the future, confident on her own skills to conquer China, with the sole exception of the Battle of Red Cliffs in which Kazuto intervenes to prevent her historical defeat.
** In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', Yenren makes a point of not telling her too much as she enjoys the thrill of the unknown, with her successor Sonsaku who also doesn't want him to say anything. When Sonken becomes Queen however, she accepts to hear some of his knowledge about the future to dispel her doubts. He then reveals her the future of the Three Kingdoms, namely that all three will suffer the same fate of the Kan Empire the following decades, along with the fall of Shoku and Gi to the Jin Dynasty, and most importantly Go's LastStand, being the last kingdom to fall.
* TheOneGuy: As the protagonist, he's the most prominent male character of the series and is always the only male general in a setting involving female warriors.
* OnlySaneMan: Downplayed. Because he comes from a modern world, he doesn't share the same views and gimmicks of the female warriors but it doesn't prevent him to befriend them in each game, and there's older coolheaded people like him.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: Your everyday student seen in any other visual novel story.
* PositiveFriendInfluence: Despite lacking in physical prowess and war tactics, he has a strong and positive influence on the various people he gets to know across the entire series.
* PowerOfTrust: One of his notable traits, which is one of the reasons the girls take a liking to him, though several of them say he's too trusting for his own good.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: He has this dynamic with HotBlooded characters such as Chouhi, Kakouton or Sonsaku.
* SupportingProtagonist: He's the main protagonist of the entire visual novel series, but he mostly acts as a support for the main heroine.
* TheTeamNormal: Unlike his female companions, he's the only major character with average strength and average intelligence.
* ThouShallNotKill: As the leader of Shoku in the first game, he doesn't execute any prisoners and keep them under house arrest at best.
* TookALevelInBadass: The second game has him becoming a bit more active and less of a doormat to the rest of the girls. He becomes a tactician whose tactics are the basics turned up a notch, and even Sousou finds him interesting from the very start instead of halfway through the game as in the first game.
** In ''Souten no Haou'', he's trained as the Captain of the City Guard and he's able to fight off bandits, and he's pretty good at dodging attacks from Shunran and Gien.
** In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', he's trained in both swordsmanship and tactics by the generals of Go, effectively becoming strong enough to take on Yellow Turbans and soldiers from other warlords.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: He's an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent who gets randomly teleported to an alternate version of Ancient China so he can build a large harem with the {{Gender Flip}}ped characters of the ''Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms''.
* TheUnchosenOne: To the Gi faction, where he's treated as a normal person with some knowledge from the future, whereas Go and Shoku consider him to be TheChosenOne who descended from the sky, as both give him a preferential treatment.
* UnequalPairing: All of his love interests are more powerful than him, be in strength or political power, but all treat him like an equal, with a few exceptions like Chintou who comes from the peasantry and Sonken Bundai who considers him a child.
* UnstoppableRage: During Sonken's conquest against her rival Ryuuyou (Liu Yao), he actually kills several soldiers on his own but quickly becomes unable to think clearly and blindly attacks enemies, without regard for his own life. Afterwards, it takes multiple slaps from Sonsaku to bring him back to his senses.
* YouAreInCommandNow: He quickly becomes the leader of Shoku in ''Koihime'', but he doesn't have any governing nor military experience, instead sharing his authority and power with his generals.

The imperial dynasty governing China for almost four centuries, once considered a golden age in Chinese history. In its last years however, the dynasty slowly gave way to corruption and decadence, as the current Empress Reitei trusted her political power to her eunuch caretakers since childhood, while the rest of the government was taken over by the vain Ka Sisters who became involved in court politics and raised peasants' taxes for their own wealth. The Empire's final nail in the coffin then came in the form of the Yellow Turbans Rebellion, taking by surprise the Imperial court who were too busy fighting each other. Unable to deal with such a huge rebellion, the government was forced to call in independent warlords to suppress it, further undermining its central authority over the country and leaving even more autonomy to its vassals.
\
Within the dying days of the Kan Empire, the Chancellor of State Toutaku Chuei used her connections in the Imperial court to make a last-ditch attempt to prevent it from collapsing, by killing the eunuchs and imprisoning the Ka Sisters, taking over as the regent of [[WhiteSheep Empress Kentei]] under the new leadership of the '''Tou Faction'''. Another warlord with close ties to Kan nobility, Enshou Honsho, denounced Toutaku's regency as tyrannical and gathered warriors from all across China to form the '''Anti-Toutaku/Kan''' coalition, with the intent of striking her down. After suffering several defeats against the alliance, the Kan Empire effectively collapsed with all of its members either disappearing or captured by factions.
\
The faction would be eventually given its very own episode in ''Hakugetsu no Tomoshibi'', in which Kazuto ends up as a retainer of the Imperial Kan Court, instead of the three kingdoms.
----
[[folder:In General]]
* DecadentCourt: With the exception of two people, everyone in the Imperial Court is either corrupted or oblivious to the state of the outside world, with infighting between General-in-Chief Kashin and the court eunuch Chouchuu.
* PuppetState: By the end of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', the Imperial Court is restored for the sake of public relations with Kentei and Toutaku as heads of state, but true power lies within Shoku and Go.
* VestigialEmpire: The Kan Empire was formerly one of the largest countries of the world, but slowly suffered decadence thanks to a string of child emperors giving all of their powers to court eunuchs, with the government riddled by all-out corruption and embezzlement. As a result, it was unable to deal with the Yellow Turbans Rebellion without relying on the local warlords, an event that would precipitate its collapse.
* WeakBossStrongUnderlings: The rulers of the Kan Empire are not fighters, but they have powerful generals under their command, with Chouryou and Ryofu among the most powerful. Downplayed in regards to Kashin, who's one of the rulers but also a warrior.

* FamilyThemeNaming: Their private names, Kuutan and Paitan, end in "tan".
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Unlike the rest of the Imperial Court, Kentei is actively trying to rebuild the country in place of her unreliable and immature older sister, but her quiet presence and lack of charisma prevent her to have a more active role in politics.
* KingIncognito: Thanks to Kazuto who designs modern schools uniforms for them, they are able to go outside without being recognized as Reitei and Kentei.

->''"There are so many interesting things in this world."''

The empress of the Kan Empire, who represents everything loose and corrupt in the dying and decadent Kan Empire. Raised from chilhood by Fan, one of the powerful court eunuchs, she never left the imperial palace even once, instead giving up all of her power to her caretaker and General-in-Chief Kashin.
\
Her life would take a new turn when Fan loses all of her positions and power to Chancellor of State Toutaku, who ousts her in a coup against her and Kashin. Later on, when Toutaku herself is outsted by a coalition of regional warlords, she and Fan end up in Ryuubi's custody, who wanted to save the Imperial Family from capture.
\
Given a new house alongside her caretaker, she continues her idle life within the walls of Shoku, until her meeting with Kazuto who slowly gets her to think and act for herself.
----
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Because of her lack of awareness during her first visit in a town, she's easily distracted by everything, visiting every local shop or talking with strangers without regard for her safety.
* ChildishOlderSibling: She's the older sister to Kentei, yet she's a sheltered {{Womanchild}} who hasn't learned to be self-sufficient.
* ConstantlyCurious: Following her first experience in the outside world, she becomes more and more interested about exploring the city and the countryside, much to Fan's dismay.
* ExtremeDoormat: Years of sheltered upbringing by a cautious and calculating Fan made Kuutan a very passive and pushover individual, unable to act and think for herself. One of the main goals of Kazuto when meeting her is to free her from Fan's grasp on her mind.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Her first trip outside as a civilian has her becoming friends with Ryofu's entire menagerie, allowing her to give instructions to animals without effort.
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: Her dress hangs off her shoulders, but doesn't completely fall off because of the belt.
* IsItSomethingYouEat: She asks if the Yellow Turbans are a new kind of candy.
* LazyBum: Due to her sheltered education, she doesn't care much about doing anything other than whatever Fan orders her to do.
* MoralityPet: Kuutan is effectively the only person whom Fan treats with absolute respect, loyalty and love.
* PuppetKing: She has no interest in ruling and is a merely figurehead controlled by the court eunuchs.
* ShelteredAristocrat: She spends her days simply indulging in eating luxurious food while being kept away from politics and the reality of the outside world by her eunuch caretaker Chouchuu.
* UnknowinglyInLove: She doesn't understand what is happening to her once she develops feelings for Kazuto. Whenever she think about him, her heart races and her body warms up, making her think her feelings are some kind of sickness.
* UpperClassTwit: She's an out of touch, lazy, and royally incompetent individual, whose life was entirely dictated by the court eunuchs.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: When starting to go outside and befriending the general of Shoku, she's struck with many emotions she didn't know until then, be it curiosity, happiness, and love, especially when she's playing with Kazuto and her sister.
* {{Womanchild}}: Despite being a grown woman, Reitei has the mentality of a spoiled and sheltered child who is completely dependent on her mother figure.

->''"All of you, please continue to work together with me. For the sake of the people of Rakuyou, the capital of the world!"''

Reitei's younger sister, who's also her direct heir for the throne of the Kan Empire. Unlike her sister, she's aware of the fragile state of the Kan Empire and possesses a vast knowledge on various subjects, but she doesn't have enough political power to make a difference.
\
After Toutaku's takeover of the Kan Empire, Kentei temporarily becomes the new Empress with Toutaku as her regent, something that causes the other warlords to create the Anti-Toutaku Alliance, on the grounds of not allowing the legitimate Empress to govern. Following her defeat to the coalition, Paitan is saved by Ryuuki and is allowed to live in relative freedom in Shoku alongside her sister and the rest of the court.
----
* AuthorityInNameOnly: She becomes the new Empress at the end of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' with Toutaku as her chancellor after Reitei willingly gives her the throne, not interested with governing anyway.
* BigGood: As the WhiteSheep of the Kan Empire, she represents the highest authority of the country and has enough influence on court intrigue. She however stays on the sidelines for most of the remakes, hidden from the other kingdoms by Shoku. ''Ryuuki no Taimou'' has her taking center stage in the very last sidestory, ''Touka's Struggle'', in which she reclaims the throne in order to disrupt Sousou's invasion, backed by Shoku.
* CallToAgriculture: When hiding within Shoku, she chooses to use her time to learn about agriculture, in order to understand how it feels to be part of the people, as most of them are peasants. Her desire to be useful for her countrymen eventually gains the approbation and help of everyone in Shoku, including Reiha.
* CuteBookworm: Unlike her sister who isn't interested in the outside world, Paitan spends most of her time reading and learning about history and society, in order to gain knowledge about things she couldn't experience as royalty.
* CuteOversizedSleeves: Her cuteness is emphasized by the very long sleeves of her dress.
* ADayInTheLimelight: She's one of the central characters of ''Touka's Struggle'', the last sidestory of ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', in which she and Touka search for a way to stop Sousou through diplomacy and peaceful means, rather than brute strength.
* TheGoodKing: Upon becoming the Emperor of China at the end of ''Touka's Struggle'', she's able to govern the country anew, reunited once again as a federal state with self-governing provinces. Her powers are also reduced and shared with her three advisors, chosen among the three most powerful states: Shoku, Gi and Go.
* KillMeNowOrForeverStayYourHand: Part of Shoku's plan to take the capital from Sousou is to use Kentei as a political asset, by having her proclaiming the Kan Empire once again before the Kan soldiers, thus appearing as a rightful ruler who intends to take back what was taken from her. Despite threats from Tei'Iku and Kakuka, all of the Kan soldiers quickly join Kentei's side and the city breaks its alliance with Gi, while the puppet Emperor put by Sousou happily leaves his place to the rightful heir.
* MatureYoungerSibling: Compared to her {{Womanchild}} of an older sister, Kentei takes her duties seriously.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: The former Emperor of China turns out to be quite modest and willing to learn more about the people, to the point of growing crops and farming by herself.
* RoseHairedSweetie: She sports pink hair, and is one of the kindest characters of the series.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Her desire to be useful to her country and its people motivates her to cultivate her own land, and is best shown in ''Touka's Struggle'', when she uses her political influence to reclaim her throne and incites vassal states of Gi to break away from it and work of the Kan Empire once again.
* WhiteSheep: She's the only one of Kan royalty who isn't corrupted to the core nor a completely clueless moron.
[[/folder]]

!!Kan Imperial Court
[[folder:Tropes applying to both]]
* AloofAlly: Due to the circumstances of their recruitment, they make no secret that they aren't interested in the least in helping Gi's people. When faced against a genuine threat however, they don't hesitate to fight in the frontlines when facing against Shoku and Go.
* AscendedExtra: Their role in the first game was limited to a single mention of their fate, being similar to the original epic as Empress He was stripped of her titles while her brother He Jin was killed by the court eunuchs. In the remakes, their role is expanded and highlights them as one of the causes behind the rampant corruption of the Kan Empire, and later join Gi's forces after its destruction.
* CallToAgriculture: After being forced to work for Gi, the sisters were asked to do manual labor as farmers but they quickly grew bored of it and started making plans to get some money back. They are eventually fired by Suu and went to the city to reopen a butcher shop.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Their designs in ''Eiyuutan'' are significantly different from those used in ''Kakumei''.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Their reign of corruption ultimately ends up with their removal from power by Toutaku and subsequent capture by Sousou, leaving them with no resources and forced to do manual work with the very commoners they hated.
* OddFriendship: Despite their blatant contempt for peasants, Suu's insistence to get them back to manual work causes them to befriend her as she helps them to keep their butcher shop afloat.
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: They don't care at all about governing, instead abusing their power and spending money as much as they want.
* RedOniBlueOni: Kashin is the fiery Red to Kataigo's soothing Blue.
* ReformedButNotTamed: Downplayed. Their first character events show they haven't really changed their ways, but being forced to work with Suu gradually changed their opinion of commoners. By the end of ''Souten no Haou'', Kashin also became a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, having reconciliated with Toutaku, Chouryou and the rest of the Imperial Court.
* SiblingYinYang: Whereas Kashin acts as the impulsive and arrogant sibling, Kataigo chooses to be TheFace of the two and the level-headed sibling who sweet talks men into doing her bidding.
* TookALevelInKindness: Both of them gradually warm up to the other generals of Gi following their capture, particularly Kazuto and Suu, whom they became friends with.

->''"I may have been born a commoner, but I have climbed the ranks of the army up to General-in-Chief with my own strength! Shouldn't you guys be ashamed of yourselves?"''

Formerly a butcher alongside her sister Reichen, Kashin got the position of General-in-Chief of the Imperial Kan Army despite having next to no training in military skills thanks to her sister's marriage with the late Emperor.
\
Although she is not completely incompetent, she is a cruel and power-hungry woman who puts her own desires before anyone else, making her one of the main causes behind the corruption and downfall of the Empire alongside her dreaded rival Chouchuu.
\
She's removed from power following Toutaku's coup, and after the fall of the Imperial Kan later on, she and her sister are captured by Sousou and are coerced into working for Gi in ''Souten no Haou''.
----
* AggressiveSubmissive: After hearing some advice from Kataigo, Kazuto begins to treat her more roughly at their second time in bed, resulting in her becoming extremely submissive to him. It later turns out that Kashin is "strong towards people weaker than her, and weak towards people stronger than her".
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She has a slightly darker skin than her sister, but she doesn't seem to be affiliated with the warriors of Go.
* TheBaroness: Of the Sexpot variant. She's regularly abrasive to everyone except her sister, fights with a whip and later has a thing for Kazuto after failing to seduce him.
* BigSisterBully: Inverted. Despite being the older sister, she's afraid of Kataigo.
* BreakTheHaughty: After the fall of the Kan Empire, she loses her status as the General-in-Chief and is exposed as a fraud who only got the position thanks to her sister.
* CleavageWindow: Her outfit has a huge opening on the chest area that shows off a lot of cleavage.
* DoubleEntendre: When trying to seduce Kazuto, by mentioning his "meat".
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: After being saved by Kazuto from the Wu Hu tribes during their trip to find the remnants of Enshou's army in Northern China, she invokes RescueSex to coerce him into having sex with her and forces herself on him.
* DressedLikeADominatrix: She wears a skimpy dress, opera gloves, a choker on her neck, and fishnet stockings. To complete the package, she wields a whip as her main weapon.
* EvilVersusEvil: She opposes the ever-ambitious Chouchuu in court politics, but she's no saint herself.
* ExtremeDoormat: Her sister often orders her around.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Despite getting the role of General-in-Chief of the Imperial Army thanks to her sister, she likes to remind everyone than she obtained it with her own talent.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Surprisingly enough given her overall personality and inferiority complex, she's not heartless and eventually appreciates Kazuto, Suu and Ruru's help when it comes to saving their butcher shop.
* NavelWindow: Her outfit has a gap around her navel.
* {{Nepotism}}: Thanks to her sister, she was granted command over all of the Imperial Army despite having no military experience.
* PointyHairedBoss: Downplayed. She has the highest military rank in China, but she has no experience in army management and makes a lot of bad decisions. That said, her skills with her whip are genuine and she's perfectly able to fight.
* StockingFiller: She wears garters to hold up her stockings.
* WhipOfDominance: As expected of her dominant and aggressive personality, she uses a whip in battle. Her overall design invokes the image of a dominatrix.

->''"Commoners, commoners...It's a waste of time to worry about them. Leave everything to my sister Kashin and Chouchuu."''

The wife of the late Emperor of China. Formerly a butcher alongside her sister Kei, she had a chance encounter with the Emperor who fell in love with her at first sight. Wasting no time for an opportunity, she made arrangements to become his wife and allowing herself and her sister to work for the Imperial family.
\
Learning about the joys of the luxury life at the Imperial Court, she became obsessed with it and would do everything to do preserve the status quo, thus making her responsible for many of the government excesses alongside Reitei, using her body and charms to get away with it.
\
After the fall of the Imperial Capital, she and her sister are captured by Sousou and are coerced into working for Gi in ''Souten no Haou''.
----
* AmbiguouslyBi: She suggested Suu to sleep with her in one of her character events, but didn't go through with it.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: Several aspects of her speech are old-fashioned, such as using the archaic first-person pronoun "warawa".
* ArousedByTheirVoice: Kazuto emphasizes the sweetness of her voice upon meeting her for the second time, and almost gives in to her seduction.
* CleavageWindow: She wears a dress with a keyhole in the chest.
* TheFace: When working as a butcher, she was the one doing the talking and selling meat to people while her sister prepares the meat.
* FemmeFatale: Downplayed. She seduced a lot of men with her looks to do her bidding, and she's quite self-centered and manipulative but not villainous.
* FrenchMaidOutfit: Despite wearing a much modest maid costume than most examples, she's heavily leaning on the seductive side.
* GirlishPigtails: She wears her hair in low pigtails.
* GoldDigger: She married the late Emperor of China mainly to escape the countryside and get lots of gold. One of her character events in ''Souten no Haou'' also suggests she did the same with numerous others to build a castle ''from scratch''.
* HatesBeingTouched: While being highly seductive, she doesn't let men touch her in the slightest.
* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou: Her insistence to bed Kazuto eventually evolved into a genuine love, because he's the first man who repeatedly resisted to her charms.
* InconsistentColoring: Her first design in ''Eiyuutan'' has dark green hair and gold eyes. Her new design in ''Kakumei'' has sea green hair and red eyes.
* ItsPersonal: After failing to seduce Kazuto once, she takes it personally to bed him using every trick in the book.
* KingIncognito: After becoming a commoner again following her capture by Sousou, she and her sister go by civilian clothes but almost no one recognizes them.
* LadykillerInLove: Gender flipped. She easily seduced many men on her way to become the Empress Dowager of Kan, but begins to feel something for Kazuto after he rejected her.
* LasciviousBeautyMark: Reichen has a beauty mark under her left eye and she likes to use her looks to seduce men to work for her.
* ShelteredAristocrat: Alongside Reitei, they are utterly blind to the problems plaguing the country at the beginning of the game, to the point of thinking Yellow Turbans as a kind of sweet.
* ShowgirlSkirt: The skirt of her dress only falls at the sides of her legs.
* TheTease: Especially towards Kazuto, ever since he resisted her attempts to seduce him.
* UpperClassTwit: As the Empress Dowager of the Kan Empire, she's not very smart and couldn't care less about things outside the palace.
* YoungestChildWins: The younger of the two sisters, who ended up marrying the Emperor of China.

->''"Your Highness doesn't need to worry about anything. Have some meat instead...Say 'aaah.'"''

One of the Ten Eunuchs. Smitten by her cuteness, she spent most of her time spoiling the young Empress and personally raising her while managing the internal affairs of the Kan Empire in her place.
\
She has a strong hatred towards Kashin, seeing her as an incompetent nobody who only got her position thanks to her sister, and attempted to assassinate her at the beginning of the game, only to have Toutaku killing the entire eunuch faction and imprisoning her.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil: Similar to her character in the original epic, she's depicted in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' as an ambitious woman manipulating the young Empress into giving her power and influence to her faction.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Despite her seemingly loving and cute demeanor, her ambitions and wickedness are unparalleled as she intends to claim all of Kan's political power to herself while keeping the unknowing Empress Reitei in the dark.
* TheCaretaker: {{Deconstructed|Trope}}. She has taken care of Reitei's personal needs since she was a child. As a result, Reitei is unable to feed herself and think for herself unless asked to.
* CleavageWindow: She wears a dress with a large opening in the chest area.
* CorruptPolitician: As one of the Ten Eunuchs, she effectively runs the entire Empire alongside her dreaded rival Kashin, and also attempted to bribe her sister Kataigo into helping her assassinating her.
* EunuchsAreEvil: By far the most ambitious and selfish character of the series as one of the Ten Eunuchs she was based from. Upon being captured by Shoku however, she drops her ambitions to become a simple retainer of Kuutan.
* EvilChancellor: As the closest advisor and ParentalSubstitute of Empress Reitei, she's effectively the true power in the Kan Imperial Court.
* EvilVersusEvil: She doesn't have total control of the Kan Empire, as her influence is hindered by Kashin.
* InconsistentColoring: In ''Eiyuutan'', she has turquoise hair and purple eyes. In ''Kakumei'', she has blue hair and gold eyes.
* KnightTemplarParent: She personally raised Empress Reitei and a large part of her motives is driven by her desire to protect her surrogate daughter from the outside world, to an unhealthy degree. She's dead set on getting rid of any and all political rivals to prevent them from becoming a threat to Reitei.
* MyBelovedSmother: She's Empress Reitei's mother in all but blood and has taken absolute control of every aspect of her life, to the point that Reitei won't do ''anything'' unless Chouchuu orders her to.
* OutGambitted: In order to monopolize the Empire's power to herself, she attempted a plot to get rid of Kashin, only to have Kataigo betraying her and Toutaku killing the entire eunuch faction besides her.
* ParentalSubstitute: She raised Empress Reitei from childhood.
* ReformedButNotTamed: After spending time with the retainers of Shoku, she becomes somehow tamer with outsiders interacting with Kuutan, while keeping her nasty side with Kazuto. As noticed by Kazuto, she's happier to see Kuutan acting by herself and making her own choices.
* RoyalFavorite: She's the attendant most favored by Empress Reitei.
* SexySlitDress: Her dress has a slit that reveals her right leg.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: She's fascinated by Kuutan to the point of obsession ever since she raised her from childhood, but she doesn't have romantic feelings for her.

\
Enjoying her success as her warrior, she has however been far from happy as a woman, and expresses distress over her growing impatience with age.
----
* CleavageWindow: Her dress has an opening that shows off her cleavage.
* HiddenDepths: Outside of work and battles, she develops an affinity with bonkei, miniature depictions of landscapes with no living materials in contrast with bonsai. One old master discovers her potential and later takes her as a pupil.
* InconsistentColoring: Her character design in ''Eiyuutan'' has very light brown hair. Her hair color got changed to brown in ''Kakumei''.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Whenever working for Kan or Shoku, she's absolutely outraged when presented with bribes and the like.
* KnightInSourArmor: Despite knowing the state of the Kan Empire, she dutifully stayed loyal to Toutaku to the very end, seeing her as a means to end the rampant corruption within the government.
* OnlySaneWoman: Outside of battle, she also works as a bureaucrat for the Kan Empire. Upon discovering the growing corruption in all levels of the government, she attempted to get rid of it only to have most of her efforts made useless due to the machinations of the Ka sisters.

->''"It is my mission to shine a light on the future, no matter how much others slander me."''

An introverted and profoundly pacifist person, concerned about the state of her country more than anyone else. As a member of a powerful family, she harbors a strong influence within the Kan Imperial Court and uses her connections in an attempt to stop it from descending further into chaos and corruption.
\
Recognizing the Ten Eunuchs and the Ka Sisters as a threat for stability, she eventually stages a coup with the help of Chouryou and Kaku, killing all of the eunuchs except Chouchuu and imprisoning the Ka sisters, leaving the Empress to her own devices while acting as her regent and caretaker because of her young age.
\
Painfully aware that her methods are heavy-handed, and knowing that she will be resented, she's nonetheless driven by her desire to save her country at all costs. Following her coup, she's known by the other warlords as the ruler of the Tou/Kan Empire, and she quickly becomes the target of the Anti-Toutaku Alliance, whose goal is to strike her down.
\
She's the main heroine of '''Hakugetsu no Tomoshibi''', which depicts her beginnings as a warlord of the Ryoushuu (Liangzhou) province and ally of the Ba Clan.
----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Downplayed. She's hated by most people of Rakuyoshi (Luoyang), the capital of China, but few people know of her true, noble intentions behind her takeover of the Kan Empire.
* AbdicateTheThrone: She intended to relinquish her power to the Empress Paitan after her project of rebuilding the Kan Empire, if not for the intervention of the Anti-Toutaku Alliance.
* AdaptationalVillainy: The first game portrays her as a mere victim of the White Clothes, having had her reputation ruined by them spreading false rumors about her monopolizing the Imperial court. ''Shin'' went for making her an incompetent ruler causing problems for her people. The ''Kakumei'' remakes change her into a more complex WellIntentionedExtremist who usurps the power of the Kan empire to put an end to their corruption.
* AntiVillain: A good-hearted person who resorted to betrayal and murder to save her country from disaster.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: In the first game, she doesn't have much power and most of her actions are overshadowed by the White Clothes who sabotage her reputation.
* BaitAndSwitchTyrant: In the ''Kakumei'' remakes, she becomes the new regent of the Kan Empire following a coup against the Imperial Court and seems to live up to her reputation of tyrant, but she's later revealed to be a WellIntentionedExtremist who attempted to rebuild the Empire.
* CavalryBetrayal: After saving the Ka sisters from being assassinated by the eunuch faction, she quickly turns on them to restore power to the true Empress of Kan, thus getting rid of the DecadentCourt.
* ChildhoodFriends: Her adviser Kaku is also her childhood friend.
* DeathFakedForYou: Regardless of the games, her faction is always taken down by the Anti-Toutaku/Kan Alliance, but she's captured by Shoku and is allowed to live as a maid using her true name, while the former Empress known as "Toutaku" was killed by the coalition or disappeared mysteriously.
* FullCircleRevolution: By usurping the throne of Kan, she intended to end the corruption within the court, but she doesn't actually give powers to the true Empress, considering her too young to properly govern the Empire. This contradiction is pointed out by Fan, and it also gives an excuse for Enshou to form the Anti-Toutaku/Kan Alliance.
* TheGoodChancellor: She's the Chancellor of State of the Kan Empire, and one of the few good people within the Imperial Court.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Upon the liberation of Rakuyoshi (Luoyang) by the Anti-Toutaku/Kan Alliance, the warlords learn of her true goal all along: Using the dirty money from the Imperial Court and her authority to rebuild and modernize the Kan Empire to repair the huge damage and corruption caused by the regency of the Ka Sisters and the Ten Eunuchs. Thus, the people still suffer from harsh taxes, and her apparent refusal to give political power to the actual Empress Paitan also contribute to her bad reputation as a tyrant.
* HistoricalHeroUpgrade: Unlike her real-life counterpart, who was a tyrannical and cruel man, she is a kind, sweet, timid and innocent girl who wants to help her country and her people no matter the circumstance.
* {{Meido}}: Kazuto takes her into his care as a maid to protect her from those who are after her life because of the false rumors about Toutaku monopolizing the Imperial court in order to start a war.
* NiceGirl: A stark contrast to her historic male counterpart.
* PuppyDogEyes: Seems to be Toutaku's special technique... it's unbeatable by normal means. Especially amusing since she's Dong Zhuo's expy, who historically was cruel, tyrannical ruler. Admittingly, her "special technique" is still quite evil.
* RedOniBlueOni: The gentle and kind Blue to Kaku's irritable Red.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: To put an end to the rampant corruption of the Kan Empire, she eventually chose to usurp power and killed the entire eunuch faction, then attempted to issue several reforms to rebuild it.
-->'''Toutaku''': Our goal is not to kill our enemies, but to rid the country of its diseased organs and put it back together.
* ZeroApprovalGambit: ''Ryuuki no Taimou'' has Toutaku leading a coup against the Kan Imperial Court like the previous remakes, while giving more details on her rule, depicting her as a ruthless and outright tyrannical ruler not unlike her historical counterpart, yet well-intentioned. When she's defeated by the armies of Enshou, she's secretly brought into hiding by Ryuuki, who was sympathetic to her goal; Becoming a scapegoat in order to bring forth a potential ruler to succeed her and fixing the mess left by the Imperial Court.

* ChildhoodFriends: She has been close friends with Toutaku for a long time.

This drops on the Shu generals without warning. HilarityEnsues. This appears to be averted in Kazuto's case and certainly in Totaku's case and, as much as she tries to invoke it on Kazuto; the lack of success seems to suggest that people she cares about are exempt.

A brave general of the Tou army. This silver-haired beauty has absolute confidence in her fighting skills, which causes her to be reckless and easy to fool by her enemies. Despite this, she's also a very good commander, able to easily communicate with her men and maintain a strong unity.
----
* BackForTheFinale: She disappears from the plot following the fall of the Imperial Kan faction, and is never seen again until the end of ''Souten no Haou'', claiming she was lost.
* ButtMonkey: Becomes this in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', where she's the victim of tactics intended to make her lose her composure. She's also recruited by Enjutsu in her last character event, trying to make a name by herself.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: She displays near superhuman abilities during ''Maiden Chronicles'', claiming to have trained every day during her trip in China following the fall of the Toutaku Faction.
* CurbStompBattle: She's defeated by Chouhi and Kouchuu during her short time in Enjutsu's army.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Surprisingly, she has an expanded role during the events of ''Maiden Chronicles'', becoming a bodyguard for the En Faction in a alternative timeline where Kazuto ends up with the En clan instead of the original Three Kingdoms.
* DeathIsTheOnlyOption: Just like the character she is based on, she always dies in each scenario in the first two games. The only time she ever survives is if the player achieves 100% of the endings or if her faction is allied with the player's faction in ''Shin Koihime''. Averted in the ''Kakumei'' remakes, where she survives regardless of the game.
* DemotedToExtra: Downplayed. She only makes one small cameo in ''Moeshouden'', but she wasn't a major character in the series to begin with.
* ForgottenFallenFriend: PlayedForLaughs. Every faction she has ever worked for tends to forget her when things go south, as shown during her short time as Enjutsu's underling in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', where her own name is being forgotten.
-->'''Choukun''': I'm sorry, we didn't hear you. What did you say, Ka-whatever?
* GuestStarPartyMember: She's playable for a few battles in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', but otherwise doesn't join Shoku nor Gi like the rest of the Kan Empire.
* InexplicablyAwesome: In ''Maiden Chronicles'', she ends up in a fight against ''both Chousen and Himiko'', two superhumans fighting with their bare hands, and ''somehow'' manages to end their duel with a draw.
* NoNameGiven: Her true name is still unknown after many entries of the series.
* NoSenseOfDirection: After the Toutaku Faction is destroyed, she's left alone with no ally, forcing her to travel through China by herself. However, she didn't find any ally and lost herself without realizing it, only appearing near the end of ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', implying she travelled for a very long time.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: After 15 years of being a secondary character with almost no plot relevance, she's eventually given her own status as a heroine in ''Hakugetsu no Tomoshibi''.
* PromotedToPlayable: She can be deployed in some battles of ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', but otherwise wasn't much of a playable character ''Hakugetsu no Tomoshibi''.
* SexySlitDress: She wears a leg-slit dress that reveals her left leg up to her thighs.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: The later games of the series usually make her survive the events of the story.
* WalkingTheEarth: Her fate in all three of the remakes, being forgotten by almost every character until the very end.

->''"We can't abandon this castle...Nor the people...Nor the animals..."''

A silent girl working for Toutaku, recognized by everyone as the greatest and most powerful warrior of all of China. Quiet and expressionless, no one seems to know what she's thinking, but she appears to like Kaku and is always concerned about Toutaku.
\
Despite her status as the strongest, she doesn't have a will of her own and relies on her self-proclaimed advisor Chinkyuu to do the talking and receive orders. She also has a strong love for animals and would do everything to protect them for harm.
----
* AnimalLover: She loves animals and shows her softer side in regard to her pets.
* BadassAdorable: Her overwhelming adorableness makes everyone go 'Awwww'. Her Ougi is absolutely monstrous. Rinrin's has a 5-turn charge and kills ~10% of the enemy's original forces. Sui's has a 4-turn charge, killing ~12% of the enemy's original forces. Ryofu's takes only ''3'' turns and kills ''~25%''. Without Shuri's ability to negate enemy special attacks, she'd completely wipe you out when you finally fight her.
* TheBigGirl: Her stat pentagon in the [[AllThereInTheManual artbook]] has her strength at the highest possible level but in other areas, she is weak or average.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Ruby red hair and eyes.
* CutenessProximity: Other characters are also subject to Cuteness Proximity when close to ''her''. The first visual novel suggests that she is aware of this and consciously exploits it to get food.
* EmotionlessGirl: Ryofu's the exact polar opposite of her loud-mouthed, antagonistic character she's based on. {{Lampshaded}} by Kazuto, who believes it may be a side effect of the GenderFlip.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Animals absolutely adore her and follow her whenever she's around.
* HairAntennae: She sports antennae in a rather unique variant in which they slope backwards, rather then forwards. It's further exaggerated in her SuperDeformed appearance.
* TheQuietOne: She rarely speaks more than a few words at a time.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: She wears a long reddish purple scarf around the neck and is known as the mightiest warrior of all kingdoms.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: She usually does not show any emotion at all but is really a good-hearted person.
* ThirdPersonPerson: She uses her private name Ren in place of I.
* WaifFu: She looks like a young, pretty girl, but she's so strong that ''Chouhi'' can't even block her attacks without hurting herself. When Kazuto slept in and she wanted to wake him, her answer was to effortlessly pick up a giant desk and drop it on him. She does more damage than any other character in the visual novel, and can fight off Chouun, Chouhi, and Kan'u at the same time--who are, just below Ryofu, close contenders for the titles of "greatest warrior in the world".
* WalkingTheEarth: She does not remember where she came from, only that she wandered around China fighting as a soldier before eventually finding her way into Toutaku's army.
* WorldsBestWarrior: She has only been defeated in combat once, and that was in a sparring match after defeating '''every single combat-capable Shoku general''' one after the other, until by the last match she had completely exhausted herself. People call her a monster, and for good reason.

->''"Come and try to stop me, will ya? My head's free to take."''

A beautiful, proud warrior who looks like a Yakuza gangster. She likes a good and honest fight and detests cheating, and is an avid lover of wine. Among the warriors of Toutaku, she's known as a sisterly figure who often has to take care of Kayuu and Ryofu.
\
Being fond of battles, she's obsessed with fighting other enemy generals and naturally seeks strong opponents in one-on-one duels. Notably, she crossed swords with two of the strongest warriors of their time: Kakouton of Gi and Kan'u of Shoku, who managed to defeat her.
\
Following the destruction of the Kan Empire, she joins Gi, smitten by Kakouton's skills and interested in Sousou's vision of a unified China.
----
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: She's attracted to people stronger than her, such as Kakouton and Kan'u.
* BloodKnight: Chouryou tends to really enjoy a prolonged fight and gets pissed if she can't finish it properly.
* BoisterousBruiser: Being TheIdiotFromOsaka qualifies her as one.
* CoatCape: She wears her haori over her shoulders like a cape.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Basically joins anyone who defeats her.
* TheIdiotFromOsaka: Less of an idiot, but Chouryou does enjoy drinking, fighting and speaking with a Kansai accent.
* IfItsYouItsOkay: After coming to the conclusion that the few women stronger than her aren't interested in a relationship, she eventually chooses Kazuto to be her partner, being the one who taught her the most about romance.
* TheLadette: She has a very brash and masculine personality, and spends her time drinking and teasing Kazuto.
* {{Sarashi}}: She only wears bandages around the chest to cover her boobs, even when she's dressed as a {{Meido}}.
* StalkerWithACrush: Towards Kan'u after being defeated by her, though in Chouryou's case, there was little, if any, "real" stalking. There's just loads of audacity and obsessing on her part; she even modeled her weapon as a black version of Kan'u's own.
* ToBeAMaster: Chouryou has stated that she fights to prove that she is the strongest warrior.
* TurnCoat: For the first game, she starts out in Toutaku's faction, then joined Sousou after being defeated by them, and then joined and stayed with Kazuto's faction after being defeated by Kan'u. The same applies to ''Shin Koihime'', but her true allegiance lies with Gi.
* {{Underboobs}}: Her {{sarashi}} doesn't cover the underside of her breasts.
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: In ''Souten no Haou'', she asks Kazuto for advice regarding romance, based on his experience with Karin.
* WildCard: In ''Koihime'', she defects to Sousou from Toutaku, then defects to Hongou. She does feel bad about it, however, and makes not fighting her previous ally a condition of her defection.

A self-proclaimed partner and advisor of Ryofu who follows her everywhere after the latter saved her life. She considers herself Ryofu's protector, dishing out punishment to anyone doing anything she considers offensive to her master. %% (like she did to Kazuto when he bought Ryofu a bagful of nikuman in public, resulting in one of Ryofu's attention-getting eating escapades).
\
Since Ryofu doesn't know how to properly communicate with people, she serves as an intermediary and gives her tactical advice, but lacks experience from actual battles despite her best attempts to make herself look big.

----
* DynamicEntry: She attacks Kazuto with a flaming dive kick when he starts getting too close to Ryofu. She also has a very prominent [[BuffySpeak flipping-the-table-over-type animation]].
* CommissarCap: She wears a military cap with a panda icon on it.
* CuteOversizedSleeves: She wears an oversized coat with long sleeves that cover up to her fingers, which somehow makes her look even cuter.

The most powerful clan of Imperial China, known for having many of its members occupying high positions in the Imperial Court across history and having one of the largest armies of the country. By the time of the games, the cousins Enshou Honsho and Enjutsu Koro are the current representatives of the family, with both claiming to be the legitimate head of the clan. It is widely known for the '''Anti-Toutaku''' Alliance which played a role in destroying the remnants of the Kan Empire, with Enshou as their (tentative) leader.
\
Shortly after the beginnings of the civil war, both cousins made their move to claim more territory for themselves as central authority was effectively gone: Enshou led the Kanto (Guandu) Campaign against Sousou in Northern China, while Enjutsu saved Go from destruction following the Battle of Jouyou (Xiangyang), taking advantage of Sonken Bundai's death to vassalize it.

----
[[folder:In General]]
* ArcVillain: Enshou is the first serious threat to Gi in ''Souten no Haou'', while Enjutsu is the main obstacle to Go's independence in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku''.
* ClashingCousins: Mostly one-sided on Enjutsu's part, who feels overshadowed by her cousin who's oblivious to her presence.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Downplayed. ''Maiden Chronicles'' features an alternate universe in which Enshou and Enjutsu are actually allies instead of rivals, due to the presence of an alternate Kazuto who end up with them instead of the Three Kingdoms. Despite their rivalry, their group stick together thanks to their newfound goal of founding a new country with Kazuto's knowledge.
* ThrowTheDogABone: After suffering many defeats and humiliations across several timelines, ''Maiden Chronicles'' depicts an universe in which Kazuto doesn't end with any of the Three Kingdoms, instead becoming a servant of the En Clan. Despite their precarious position and eventual downfall against Gi and Go, the two cousins join forces thanks to the presence of Kazuto who motivates them to have a common goal and set aside their feuds. They also have the unexpected help of Kayuu, who became much stronger.
* UnskilledButStrong: Their armies are the most numerous of the country, but the lack of good tacticians for either of them makes them easy targets for the most experienced armies of their neighbors.
* UpperClassTwit: Both Enshou and Enjutsu are known to be complete morons despite their family's influence and prestige.

->''"O-hohoho!! These rebels will be briliantly and heroically defeated by me, En Honsho!"''

Head of the noble En family and the lord of Kei Province, known for having produced three ''Kou'' (Chinese equivalent of Duke and high-ranking position in the Imperial Court) in the past. She's introduced as the leader of the Anti-Toutaku Alliance in every game of the series.
\
She is a proud, spoiled and selfish woman who is always causing trouble for her advisers, Bunshuu, Ganryou and Denhou. Despite her lack of awareness and refusal to listen to anyone who disagrees with her, her subordinates love her thanks to her vibrant personality who gives her a natural charisma.
\
First appearing as a secondary antagonist in the first ''Koihime'' and ''Souten no Haou'', she becomes an unlikely ally to Shoku in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', as a former vassal of the Kan Imperial Court.
----
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Inverted. She's the Annoying Older Cousin to Enjutsu. Funnily enough, she's a more likeable person than her cousin, who annoys everyone else.
* ArcVillain: Of the Kanto (Guandu) Campaign of ''Souten no Haou'', in an attempt to invade Sousou's territory to unify Northern China.
* AttentionWhore: Her [[EstablishingCharacterMoment very first scene in the series]] consists of explaining her noble lineage and ties to the Kan Empire, and how she's superior to anyone else, thus proclaiming to be the sole legitimate leader of the Anti-Toutaku coalition.
* BackForTheFinale: After her defeat in the Battle of Guandu against Sousou in ''Souten no Haou'', she fled and wasn't seen again until the end of the game, where she was finally captured and given community service alongside her comrades. Ditto in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'' after the dissappearance of Gi's generals, returning to her domain in Northern China with Kousonsan.
* BadassCape: Invoked. She wears a cape to make herself look more imposing than she actually is.
* BattleBallgown: She's one of the few characters of the entire series with an actual armor.
* CantLiveWithThemCantLiveWithoutThem: Despite everything she says to Bunshuu and Ganryou, she actually likes their presence and she's unable to do anything without them.
* CoolCrown: She wears a circlet and she's the ruler of Kei Province.
* DumbBlonde: Downplayed. She actually has decent social skills and enough charisma to create the Anti-Toutaku coalition in the first place, but she's not a very good leader.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In both the original game and the remakes, she's first introduced as the leader of the Anti-Toutaku coalition. She then explains to everyone her status with a loud NoblewomansLaugh, only to delegate the actual commanding to another and sending her allies' armies in the frontlines instead of hers.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Downplayed. The generals of Shoku don't take kindly to her presence when she becomes an ally in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', but mostly tolerate her for the sake of Ryuubi, while her other advisors are otherwise accepted as part of the army.
* HeelFaceTurn: Upon being saved by Shoku in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', Enshou decides to pay back Ryuubi's kindness by working for her as an administrator, while her three advisers join the military.
* HiddenDepths: She lacks experience as a warrior, but shows surprisingly good skills as an administrator for managing resources for Shoku in ''Ryuuki no Taimou''.
* HumiliationConga: After her initial defeat in ''Koihime'' against Shoku, she escapes to Southern China to find about a legendary kingdom with unseen riches. During her trip, she and her subordinates are successively captured by cannibals, get lost in forests, caves, and at one point get cursed.
* IncomingHam: Her very first appearance introduces her with her trademark NoblewomansLaugh and over-the-top boasting, immediately establishing her as an incompetent, yet endearing commander.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Becomes this after her defeat in the first ''Koihime'', having lost everything and forced to travel across China with Bunshuu and Ganryou to live another day.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Upon meeting Enjutsu in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', she invites her in a restaurant to enjoy a nice meal with her cousin and her aide, and spends her time playing with her hair and teasing her, without realizing she's humiliating her.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Despite her obnoxious behavior and overbearing personality, she's quite affable with other people, as long as one can bear with her.
--> Bunshuu: "Don't worry. Our lady looks abrasive at first glance, but she's not a bad person."
* MeanBoss: She's the superior of Bunshuu and Ganryou and a bit of a jerk towards them whenever she's angry, but she doesn't abuse them physically.
* NeverMyFault: Even though most of her failures are her own fault, she doesn't acknowledge it herself and usually blames her subordinates.
* NoblewomansLaugh: She descends from a noble family, has blond OjouRinglets, and more often than not laughs in a very obnoxious manner.
* RegalRinglets: {{Exaggerated|Trope}}. She has long blonde hair styled in huge ringlets. Also counts for OjouRinglets because two of them fall in front of her ears and shoulders. She's the head of a noble family.
* RichBitch: She's a rich blonde who considers herself to be the strongest and most charismatic ruler of China, with everyone else beneath her and treats her subordinates badly. Later downplayed in ''Shin Koihime Musou'' and its remakes, where her most negative traits are toned down to become more of a JerkWithAHeartOfGold.
* SmallNameBigEgo: She likes to rub her status as a noble and warrior to everyone who meets her, yet she's utterly helpless when it comes to actual fighting.
* SmarterThanYouLook: When becoming part of Shoku in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', she shows to be quite efficient and useful as an administrator, showing that her true strength lies in paperwork and management, not warfare.
* StealingFromTheTill: One of Maachi's events in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'' involves huge embezzlement of public funds on Enshou's part, who bet it on horse races in order to multiply it and renovate a decaying store. After winning the bet thanks to her savvyness in gambling, she then intends to use the money to pay workers to build the store anew. Upon hearing of her intentions, Ryuubi and her advisors have a debate regarding her use of public funds in gambling, but ultimately went for a slap on the wrist as her idea does help the city and its people in the long run.
* TooMuchAlike: Since she has many things in common with Sousou, she eventually became estranged with her, as they can't stand one another.
* WeHaveReserves: Not, unusually, because she's evil. Just stupid and oblivious. Her special ability in ''Koihime'' also allows her to gain more troops with no cost.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: She's ChildhoodFriends with Sousou, but by the time of the series, they are bitter rivals.

A brave general working for Enshou and her first adviser. She is a natural gambler who likes to take risks on everything and judges everything black or white, but keeps getting herself and others into trouble.
\
Despite her position as an adviser, she is not really smart but rather brash, and tends to say things without thinking about it firsthand, which tend to embarrass her master.
\
Nonetheless, she actually enjoys working for Enshou, and their relation goes well beyond the boundaries of a master and servant. She also proclaims her colleague Ganryou to be her wife.
----
* AffectionateNickname: After formally meeting Kazuto in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', she begins to call him "Aniki", reflecting his status as a honorary big brother to most of the girls.
* BattleBallgown: Downplayed. In battles, she wears a lighter version of Enshou's armor on top of her usual skirt.
* {{BFS}}: She uses a huge sword to fight.
* BrutalHonesty: She occasionally spews out embarrassing facts about Enshou without thinking.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Is rather protective of Ganryou whenever Kazuto gets too close with her, up until she warms up to him.
* IdiotHair: She has a small but noticeable strand of hair, and she's more of a simpleton.
* LoveConfession: Expresses her love for her Ganryou several times across the series.
-->'''Bunshuu''': Don't worry, Toshi. I'll make you the happiest wife in the world.
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the easily excitable Red to Ganryou's modest Blue.

\
Being the most normal of the trio, she has to take care of them and keep an eye on them as their personalities often cause trouble around them, much to her dismay.
\
While she often complains about her hard work and eccentric colleagues, she grew to enjoy watching them run wild and talking about impossible dreams.
----
* BattleBallgown: She's one of the few armored characters, and she's a good warrior to boot with a heavier armor than her friend Bunshuu.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Being the OnlySaneWoman of the original trio, she would rather be somewhere else, if not for her friendship with Bunshuu.
* OnlySaneWoman: She's the long-suffering brake on Enshou's insane arrogance and Bunshuu's carefree attitude. She goes on to commiserate with Gi's StraightMan, Kakouen.

\
Unlike her other two colleagues, she has actual knowledge of war tactics but all of her advice falls on deaf ears. Alongside Ganryou, the other sane person of the group, she works hard to help Enshou despite everything and never gives up.
----
* CantLiveWithThemCantLiveWithoutThem: Despite having many opportunities to leave Enshou's command, she can't bring herself to resign from her group, preferring to stay as their sole tactician.
* CoolCrown: She wears a circlet above her forehead.
* IgnoredExpert: Despite being the only voice of reason in Enshou's army, she's usually ignored due to Enshou's pride and overconfidence during her conflict against Sousou.
* InconsistentColoring: She has silver hair and light blue eyes in ''Eiyuutan''. ''Kakumei'' depicts her with beige hair and amber eyes.
* OnlySaneWoman: Even moreso than Ganryou, as the only advisor of Enshou with actual knowledge of war tactics.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: She's the most intellectual member of the En Faction and also, the only member who wears glasses.

\
At the beginning of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', she already has diplomatic relationships with the neighboring county of Go, having signed a non-aggression pact with them (thus being nominal allies), mostly because she's quite afraid of their leader Yenren.
\
Taking after her cousin, she's an extremely entitled and self-centered person, but she lacks both talent and charisma. However, she makes it up with her more cunning and dangerous assistant, Choukun.
----
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Her roundabout way of taking over Go and her self-entitled personality resulted in everyone in Go hating her, and it gets even worse when she declares herself Empress, with none of the other warlords helping her when Go declares its independence.
* AntiquatedLinguistics: She speaks a very regal and antiquated Japanese dialect. She uses the archaic "warawa" as a first-person pronoun and ends her sentences with the old-fashioned copula ''ja'' instead of ''da''.
* ArcVillain: Following the defeat of Ryuuyou (Liu Yao), she ends up as the new liege of Go and becomes the new villain whom Sonsaku needs to take down before resuming her conquest.
* AttentionWhore: She attempts to emulate her cousin in ''Souten no Haou'' following her EstablishingCharacterMoment, only to get ignored by everyone else.
* BigDamnHeroes: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', she arrives in the battle of Jouyou (Xiangyang) with an army of ''100 000'' men to help Sonsaku defeat Kouso and live another day...Although Go effectively becomes a vassal state afterwards.
* ButtMonkey: She's introduced in ''Kakumei'' as the young cousin of Enshou, who tries her best to be like her but ends up ignored by almost everyone, and later gets betrayed by Sonsaku in the civil war following the end of the Kan Empire.
* CoolCrown: She's sometimes shown wearing a tiara as a symbol that she's of noble blood.
* CowardlyLion: In ''Maiden Chronicles'', she eventually accepts to endanger herself and acts as a bait to help her companions hunt dangerous animals, all for the goal of making a medication for her aide Choukun.
* CuteOversizedSleeves: She's the TokenMiniMoe of the En faction and her dress has oversized sleeves that cover her hands.
* EasilyImpressed: As part of the payment she demands for Go aside from honey, she asks Sheren to do a perfomance for her or else she would punish them for failing to satisfy her. Kazuto then proposes to please her with an old-fashioned fake thumb removal, which impresses her so much that she takes a great interest in him, fascinated by his technique.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In ''Souten no Haou'', she's introduced almost immediately after Enshou, only to get completely ignored by everyone else who mostly listened to Enshou, her more charismatic and loud cousin.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: Upon taking over Go, she starts a quasi-tyrannical rule with huge taxes and absurd construction projects, resulting in all of her vassals hating her guts and preparing their independence almost immediately.
* HarmlessVillain: She becomes this after Sonsaku kicks her out of Go.
* HumiliationConga: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', we got to see what happens to her following her defeat against Go. After her home province was taken over by Gi, she tries to disguise herself as Sousou, only to have Enshou finding her by coincidence and (unknowingly) humiliating her. Later on, she's found out by Gi's generals who threaten to decapitate her on the spot, causing her to flee in Shoku territory. After several weeks travelling in the jungle with Choukun and surviving many dangers, [[NiceGirl she's found by Ryofu who gives her lodging]], [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter feeling she's not as villainous as her reputation says]], after seeing her animals taking a liking to her. After fleeing from her castle and stealing some of Ryofu's treasures (who actually don't mind at all, since she knows they don't have a home), they buy a castle in Shoku's territory alongside the services of [[ButtMonkey Kayuu]], but lose everything in a single battle against Chouhi and Kouchuu. It ultimately causes her to flee China entirely.
* IdleRich: Despite her fame and influence, she's not a fighter and has to rely on her aide Choukun and others to keep herself afloat.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: She fails so often at everything that she comes out as sympathetic for trying. ''Son Go Ketsumyaku'' however shows that given the right time and opportunity, with some push from her aide Choukun, she does have the ability to turn the tables against Go.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's obnoxious and insufferable to everyone except Choukun, even towards her cousin who treats her nicely.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The ''Maiden Chronicles'' has her undergoing CharacterDevelopment when she willingly chooses to join Kada and the others to treat Choukun's illness.
* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: Under debt for many years for borrowing money to Go to buy stocks of honey, she waited for an opportunity to have Yenren cancel her debts. Go's conquest of Jouyou (Xiangyang) gives her an opportunity when Yenren dies in an ambush: She quickly arrives to save the day as Go was on the verge of defeat, and promptly turns it into her vassal state.
* LesserOfTwoEvils: The generals of Go greatly dislike her for taking over their kingdom and acting as their liege, but all acknowledge that being her vassal is a better alternative than being destroyed by Kouso.
* LovableCoward: Despite being a coward at heart, the ''Maiden Chronicles'' show she quickly grows accustomed to danger as she travels with Kazuto and Sonsaku, befriending them and even wanting to recruit them after their trip. Even Sonsaku warms up to her after seeing her change of heart, though she does remind her what would happen if she ever tries to attack Go again.
* TheNotLoveInterest: She's one of the few major characters who doesn't express any romantic interest towards Kazuto in the main games, content with Choukun at her side. She does have some ShipTease moments with him in other games and stories, such as ''Maiden Chronicles'' or ''Eiyuutan 4''.
* OddFriendship: She easily befriends Chousen and Himiko during their travels in ''Maiden Chronicles'', despite their very large and muscular appearance, as seen when she's piggybacking with them. She also wanted to have them as aides, but they politely declined because of their job.
* OpportunisticBastard:
** During her ill-fated alliance with Go to fight the Yellow Turbans, she attempts this by proposing to send her troops behind Go and wait for them to be exhausted following the battle, in order to reap the benefits and fame at Yenren's expense but every other general saw through her plan and called off their alliance.
** She does it again during the Battle of Jouyou (Xiangyang), this time by sending reinforcements to help Sonken Bundai and have her cancel the numerous debts from Go she racked over the years. By the time she arrives, Sonken was already dead, but she ultimately helps Go regardless, instead using the opportunity to take control of Go on the grounds of saving it from utter destruction.
* PetTheDog:
** Following her defeat, she and Choukun survive by stealing things from Go's capital city. At one point, she steals an entire bag of oranges and later encounters a beggar boy asking her to give some of them for his mother impoverished by the war. Her reaction? Giving him oranges ([[JerkassRealization with a clearly guilty look]]) with her assistant Choukun giving him the entire bag.
** In ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', she treats Kazuto as a servant, but also cares for his life when he becomes sick, implied to be nicer and concerned than she looks.
* RegalRinglets: While not as exaggerated as her cousin, her hair curls into ringlets. Also comes with OjouRinglets due to her sidelocks curling in front of her shoulders.
* RoyalBrat: She's a spoiled young girl in a position of power, and despite her incompetence she has a lot of influence in her own region, because of the fame given by the En family.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Prohibited from entering any of the Three Kingdoms following her HumiliationConga, she eventually choose to flee in the south, in another country implied to be Vietnam.
* ShipTease: With the alternate Kazuto of ''Maiden Chronicles'', taking a liking to him after their adventures to find the medication for Choukun, thinking he would be great as a second personal servant given his talent for assisting people.
* SitcomArchNemesis: Has this dynamic with Sonsaku, as both known each other as bitter enemies. Following Enjutsu's defeat by Go, she became no more than a little annoyance, but her aide Choukun can help her with other petty schemes.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Similar to her cousin, but with far less success due to her lack of charisma. It's even invoked by her choice of clothing, with her crown and necklace.
* SmugSnake: She's smarter than her cousin, but she has even worse ego issues, easily exploited by the warriors of Go.
* SkewedPriorities: As her army and empire is destroyed by Go, she flees with Choukun and insists on taking honey from the reserve, despite their lives being in line.
* SparedButNotForgiven: After her defeat and Go's subsequent declaration of independence, Sonsaku ultimately spares her at the condition of not entering the capital city ever again. Despite still having some ambition about retaking Go one day, she doesn't have any resources nor soldiers anymore and is forced to go back to her home province.
* SpoiledBrat: As Choukun didn't try too hard to rise her as a responsible person, she grew up as a selfish and immature woman.
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', working with the dimensional travellers alongside Kazuto and Sonsaku makes her a better person who's ready to face any dangers to save her aide, and even wants to recruit her companions as aides to help her rebuild her kingdom one day.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Honey, so much that she borrowed lots of money from Go to make a huge stock of it. She also asks her vassals to give her jars of honey on a regular basis.
* TraumaButton: Merely mentioning Sonsaku's name causes her to cower in fear, something that Choukun usually exploits when her master is unmotivated.
* UngratefulBitch: Despite being spared by Sonsaku and asked not to enter the city ever again, she quickly goes back to her word and prepares a new plot to get revenge, but her lack of resources makes her harmless. She also steals from Ryofu's treasury after the latter gave her a lodging, even though Ryofu doesn't mind at all. Averted in ''Maiden Chronicles'', in which she warms up to her companions after they helped her save Choukun.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: While she is an obnoxious and selfish individual, several instances in the series show her to have morals. One exemple would be after her defeat against Sonsaku in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', she's left impoverished and without resources. Yet after she stole some oranges from the local market, she eventually gives some to a beggar boy.

->''"As expected of my dear lady!"''

Enjutsu's most faithful follower, who has a variety of skills ranging from escort to a servant to a warlord. She absolutely adores her master, and dotes on her ever since she was a child, thus being responsible for her selfishness and tyrannical personality.
\
Thanks to her versality, she's a very intelligent and dangerous person but is content with being Enjutsu's companion, freely manipulating her and enjoying a life a luxury with her.
----
* AffablyEvil: She's always polite to everyone, even to her enemies as she freely manipulates them and gives advice to Enjutsu.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She normally projects a very friendly persona that earns everyone's respect, but is really a ManipulativeBitch behind the scenes given the opportunity.
* TheConsigliere: Choukun is giving Enjutsu advice to not abuse her power too much and reminds her of her diplomatic relations with Go, but she freely helps her when it comes to political intrigue and plots to get rid of Sonsaku.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', she has qualms about murdering Sonsaku during their time in the Anti-Toutaku Alliance when Enjutsu order her to do so...Until Kouso overhears their conversation and comes with a plan of her own.
* HyperCompetentSidekick: She's effectively the one who runs the province from the shadows, giving advice and making plans for Enjutsu, who has a large influence and army but isn't good with warfare and politics.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: She means everything to Enjutsu.
--> Enjutsu: "I don't think there is any point in living anymore if Nanano dies..."
* ManipulativeBitch: As Enjutsu's aide, it is up to her to dabble in politics and using her influence to prevent any rebellion from Go following its vassalization.
* TheMatchmaker: ''Eiyuutan 4'' has her attempting to have Kazuto marry Enjutsu to cement the position of their island kingdom. She also came to understand that his kind and amiable personality would be a good fit for her.
* MoralityPet: She's the only person the RoyalBrat Enjutsu ever treats decently, to the point of being ready to die for her.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Unlike her master, she does have standards and often questions her most excessive orders, but freely accept them as long as she's happy.
* TheNotLoveInterest: Similar to Enjutsu, she doesn't have romantic feelings for Kazuto in the main games.
* OnlyFriend: Alongside Enshou, she's the only person in the entire country to have a positive opinion of Enjutsu.
* ParentalSubstitute: Her relationship with Enjutsu has similarities with that of a surrogate mother and her child, being the one who teaches her about the outside world. However, Choukun also greatly spoiled her for some time, which warped her personality as time went.
* SatelliteCharacter: Most of her character revolves around Enjutsu, being her faithful servant who is utterly devoted to her. It is also one of the reasons she isn't a major threat, as most of her political and diplomatic skills is for Enjutsu to use, completely lacking an ambition of her own.
* ServileSnarker: She isn't above mocking or teasing her master to enjoy seeing her reactions, particularly when she mentions Sonsaku, her TraumaButton.
* SevenIsNana: Her private name, Nanano, translates to "Seven's".
* SoapOperaDisease: She suffers of this in ''Maiden Chronicles'', kickstarting Enjutsu's trip with the dimensional travelers, Kazuto and Sonsaku to find rare ingredients to make a medication to heal her.
* SubordinateExcuse: She sticks around her master despite everything because she's one of the very few people who actually likes Enjutsu.
* UndyingLoyalty: When cornered by Sonsaku who (falsely) threatens her with execution, she's ready to give her life for her master, as long as she can escape alive.
* WillfullyWeak: If not for her love to Enjutsu, she would be an even more dangerous individual thanks to her knowledge of feudal politics. Later exploited by Kazuto when he gives her the Imperial Seal, knowing that Enjutsu won't listen to her advice if her vassals give her generous offerings.
* TheWomanBehindTheWoman: Whenever Enjutsu comes with a new plot to harass Go (particularly Sonsaku), expect Choukun to be the one in charge. ''Eiyuutan 4'' notably has Enjutsu and Choukun attempting to trap Sonsaku and some of Go's generals on a remote island through an elaborate scam involving debt-trap and forced labor.

! Yellow Turbans

[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flag_koukintou.png]]

As the Kan Empire was weakened by the corrupted court eunuchs and the incompetence of the Ka Sisters, peasants from all across China decided to rebel and armed themselves, having suffered from heavy taxes and poverty for many years. Wearing yellow turbans (hence the name), they began to attack many provinces and government buildings in an attempt to topple the dying dynasty. Led by the Chou sisters, the loose army eventually became a genuine threat for the Empire, causing to call independent warlords to suppress it at all costs. Easily crushed by the smaller but far more powerful warlords armies, the uprising eventually died down...But paved the way for the other warlords who will become central figures in Chinese history.

----
[[folder:In General]]
* BadassCreed: Twisting the words of Choukaku, the movement gained a new slogan as seen on the Yellow Yurbans emblem:
--> "The Azure Sky is already dead; the Yellow Sky will soon rise."
* RapePillageAndBurn: Lacking proper leadership, the movement soon escalated into random pillaging and destruction of villages as bandits joined the movement to get some free money. The Chou sisters arrival alleviated things somehow, but they don't have the heart to tell their army they aren't truly leaders.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Despite being short-lived, the rebellion showed to the warlords the current state of the Kan Empire, and motivated them to proclaim their own independence, destroying the Kan Empire and plunging China into an era of civil war.
* StarterVillain: Every game of the main series starts with the Yellow Turbans Rebellion happening in many parts of the country, fighting off the local warlords of every faction.
* WeHaveReserves: Their only strength is their large quantity of troops, vastly outnumbering the armies of the warlords, but their lack of military training makes them very weak.
[[/folder]]

!!The Chou Sisters
A trio of sisters who accidentally became the leaders of the Yellow Turbans Rebels after mistaking a military strategy book for a songbook, gathering many "fans" around China who believe them to be their ruler. They end up captured by Gi's forces and later recruited by Sousou who intend to use their talent to gather more troops for her.
----
[[folder:Tropes applying to the three]]
* BandOfRelatives: The three are sisters and form an idol singer band together.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: The three sisters don't look that much alike, but what they all have in common is their cyan eyes.
* FamilyThemeNaming: The private names of the three sisters all end in 'hou'.
* IdolSinger: They're a famous idol group.
* RebelLeader: By sheer coincidence, they became the leader of the Yellow Turbans.

The eldest sister of the Chou sisters and accidental leader of the Yellow Turbans, nicknamed the "Great Teacher" by her soldiers. She and her sisters used to be unknown traveling entertainers.
\
She's a very easy-going and relaxed girl who takes everything with a carefree attitude expected of a neophyte despite her lack of knowledge about the world. She's also a bit selfish and tends to rely on her cuteness and lovable personality when dealing with Kazuto, jealous of her sisters when things don't go her way.

----
* CrocodileTears: In one of her character events, she fakes tears to get Kazuto to buy some clothes for her.
* IHaveBoobsYouMustObey: She casually uses her chest to convince Kazuto to buy nice things for her.
* IdiotHair: She has a long strand of hair standing atop of her head.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: She pretends to be an airhead to get more attention.
* RoseHairedSweetie: Downplayed. While she's mostly sweet and likable, she's not above lying or manipulating Kazuto to get what she wants.
* ShowgirlSkirt: Most of her skirt is knee-length, except at the front where it splits to expose her thighs.

->''"Hello to my fans! I hope you're in high spirits today!"''

The middle sister of the Chou sisters. She is very ambitious and is determined to become the most charismatic idol on the continent. To this end, she never misses an opportunity and attempts to promote herself regularly, showing a shrewd and cunning side. Once she has made up her mind on something, she will go for it without hesitation.
\
Among her sisters, she is very good at getting everyone excited and agitated during their concerts.
----
* ACupAngst: Despite being the most ambitious of the three, she complains about her lack of appeal because of her flat chest, and envies her elder sister for having the biggest rack.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Like her sisters, she also has light blue eyes, but Chouhou is the only one whose hair is also light blue.
* {{Tsundere}}: Unlike her other two sisters, she has qualms about admitting her love for Kazuto.

The youngest sister of the Chou sisters. She is the calmest and smartest of the three, and also acts as the manager of the band.
\
She is not very good at being outspoken, so she supports her two sisters from the sidelines without getting in their way. Although she is not dissatisfied with her role, she is beginning to wonder if she should be more proactive.
----
* ForeheadOfDoom: Downplayed, as she has a slightly larger forehead than the other characters in the remakes.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: She wears glasses and is introduced as the "strategist" of sorts for the Yellow Turban Army, and later for the other sisters when they work for Gi.
* {{Underboobs}}: Her top shows off the undersides of her breasts.
[[/folder]]

----
* BigThinShortTrio: One is slim, one is short, and one is fat and large.
* TheDividual: The three are almost never seen apart from each other.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Their true names are unknown, so they are exclusively referred by their nicknames.
* StarterVillain: They usually fill the role of the first villains in the games.
* TerribleTrio: They always work as a trio, but don't pose much of a threat.

The queen of the indigenous Southwestern Asians known as Nanban (Nanman), located in Southern Ekishuu (Yizhou).
\
Living in a warm land where there are no enemies, she and her people live happily and lively every day with no worries at all. It, however, changed one day when Moukaku had a thought: "The more territory we have, the more delicious food and fun we can have!"
\
With such a simple idea, the Nanban army thus began its conquest of Southwestern China.
----
* CatGirl: She has the cat ears and tail, as well as the "-nya" VerbalTic for bonus points. Although, that's just her tribal clothes… probably.
* CuteLittleFangs: As part of her CatGirl theme, Moukaku has feline fangs.
* FurBikini: She dresses in a white tiger-skin bikini-like attire.

* AgeInappropriateDress: Their skimpy tribal clothes look very indecent in little girls like these three.

* ConstantlyCurious: Among the three, Mike is the most curious and seeks funny adventures with Moukaku.
* ShowgirlSkirt: Their tiger fur miniskirts split at the front.

----
* BareFistedMonk: He's a master of unarmed combat, able to fight armed opponents. Saji's kicks are akin to a blade cutting through grass.
* BigBad: He's the first enemy met by Kazuto in the prologue who's responsible for his time travel, and the last enemy to deal with at the end of the game in order to go back to his world.
* CutsceneBoss: While Ukitsu is effectively fought as the FinalBoss, he's not fought in gameplay, instead fighting Chousen and the other heroines of Shoku.
* FacialMarkings: He has a tattoo on his forehead and marks on his cheeks.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: He has no real characterization besides being an evil villain who wants to destroy the world.
* LightningBruiser: Kazuto states Saji kicks fast and hard.
* TheManBehindTheMan: He orchestrated most of the events of the first game, mainly by using White Clothes to do his bidding.
* OmnicidalManiac: Believing the world of ''Koihime'' to be a fake, he seeks to destroy it entirely.

Saji's partner in crime in the White Clothes. He first appears as the one behind Sousou's brainwashing, and later Shuyu's betrayal so they can kill Kazuto, who actively prevents the White Clothes to spread chaos across the land.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: He hits on Saji at one point and doesn't express interest towards woman, but his sexuality isn't confirmed outright.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: It's revealed near the end of ''Koihime'' that his sole purpose is to destroy forgotten worlds, meaning he's not villainous but simply carrying his purpose.
* FacialMarkings: He has a tattoo on his forehead.
* FinalBoss: He's the last general fought in battle in ''Koihime''.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: One of the main antagonists of the first game, complete with glasses.
* TheHeavy: While Saji acts as the BigBad, Ukitsu mostly helps him wreaking havoc by manipulating the other factions into fighting Shoku.
* HypnoticEyes: In order to wreak havoc in ''Koihime'', he uses them against Sousou, making her a puppet of the White Clothes.
* ManipulativeBastard: He exploits Shuuyu's desire to expand Go by mentioning Sonsaku's dream, prompting her to betray Sonken and take over Go in ''Koihime''.

->''"You need to have a STRONG SPIRIT!!"''

A famous doctor known in the entire country, who's said to be able to treat any injury to any person he encounters, whether they be friends or foe. Also very hot-blooded. He appears in the bonus scenarios of each game unlocked after beating the main campaign once, dubbed "Maiden Chronicles", set in their own continuity, alongside Chousen, Himiko and an alternate Kazuto Hongou.
\
To heal his patients, he claims to use a secret art known as the Way of the Five Pecks of Rice (or as he calls it, "THE WAY OF THE FIVE PECKS OF RICE!!")
\
A man of many talents, he vowed to use his skills as a doctor to save as much people as possible during the harsh times of the civil war, which somehow allows him to have dimension-hopping abilities in order to reach his patients.
----
* DeterminedDoctor: His motto is to heal everyone, regardless of their background or the gravity of their wounds. Despite being threatened with death by the warriors of Gi, he still tries to heal Sousou regardless.
* DimensionalTraveler: He has dimensional hopping powers, presumably as a means to reach his patients no matter where they are.
* FieryRedhead: One of the most HotBlooded characters in the cast and the only one with dark red hair.
* GenreRefugee: He generally behaves as if he was a StockShonenHero with a huge inspiration from Mecha pilot protagonists, something very out of place in the series.
* LargeHam: He becomes very passionate when he starts talking about his beliefs, and is prone to shout when using his healing powers.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Along with Himiko, he appears in the bonus scenario ''Maiden Chronicles'' after clearing the game once. Set right after the Battle of Red Cliffs, he forms a team with an alternate Kazuto and Chousen to heal Sousou.
* ObliviousToLove: Himiko has feelings towards Kada, but he doesn't seem to be aware of it.
* SuddenlyShouting: "It's not just the Way of the Five Pecks of Rice! It's the WAY OF THE FIVE PECKS OF RICE!!"
* SuperDoc: Twice accross his two appearances in ''Kakumei''.
** His appearance in the first ''Maiden Chronicles'' in ''Souten no Haou'', has him ''reviving'' a dying Kougai and later curing the head disease of Sousou, thus preventing their historical deaths.
** His story goes on in the second ''Maifen Chronicles'' in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', appearing some time after Go's land battle against Gi, and heals a poisoned Sonsaku, who goes on adventures with them. Later on, he helps Enjutsu finding ingredients to make a medicine for her bedridden aide Choukun, taking down a ''dragon'' with his companions.
* TimeMaster: His powers as a dimensional travelling doctor with miraculous healing powers allow him to save people from their historical deaths, creating alternates timelines for each iteration of the Three Kingdoms he visits.

!!!Kada's Assistants
[[folder:Tropes applying to both]]
* AdaptationalGenderIdentity: Chousen and Himiko are cisgender women in the historical novel. Here, they're big and muscular transgender women wearing a thong.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: They look human, but their absurd strength and ability to travel through dimensions certainly cast a doubt on their true nature.
* DimensionalTraveler: They have the ability to travel through dimensions, usually by using a flying road to travel to another universe.
* {{Fundoshi}}: They wear nothing but a Japanese loincloth to cover their naughty bits.
* LargeHam: Both of them are voiced by famous seiyū known for their bombastic and over-the-top performances.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Implied to be the case, as they help Kada in his travels to find people to heal, and both only appear in times of crisis.
* OddFriendship: The second ''Maiden Chronicles'' story has them befriending [[RoyalBrat Enjutsu]] of all people, who quickly take a liking to them.
* OtherworldlyAndSexuallyAmbiguous: Downplayed. They have masculine physical traits but identify themselves as women, and don't take it well when someone tells them they're too masculine. Surprisingly enough, none of the other characters are bothered by this, even though Kazuto needed some time to cope with the fact that the legendary Chinese beauty is a trans woman in the ''Koihime'' series. Their strange powers and unscrutable nature also makes it clear they're not quite human.
--> Himiko: "Our strength and passion gave us the power to transcend the very concept of gender and age!"
--> Soujin: "Oooh, I didn't understand everything, but it sounds super cool!"
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: The end of the first game and ''Maiden Chronicles'' reveal that their main goal is to travel across universes and fix mistakes made across history and alternate universes in order to bring happiness to its people, alongside SuperDoc Kada and an alternate Kazuto in the so-called ''Maiden Chronicles''. To name a few examples in the three remakes:
** In ''Souten no Haou'', they heal a dying Kougai following the defeat of the Anti-Gi Alliance in the main story after the battle of Red Cliffs, and later have Sousou's tumor removed, saving her from her historical death.
** In ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', they save Sonsaku from her poisoning, and later form a group with Enjutsu to make a medecine and save her servant Choukun from a rare illness.
** In ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', they help the united En clan by healing their own alternate Kazuto. By the end of their travels, Kazuto recovers his memory and ask of them to save Kougai from her historical death.
** Following the three travels, Chousen and Himiko chose to send back the alternate Kazuto to his original world, [[EarnYourHappyEnding which turns out to be the ''Souten no Haou'' timeline, effectively bringing him back from the dead following his disappearance.]]

->''"In the name of love and courage, here comes Chousen, the pretty butterfly!"''

An enigmatic woman from Kan who has traveled through a number of foreign histories, who spends her days training to refine her "muscular beauty" as a woman. First appearing in ''Koihime'' as an ally, she's revealed to be a guardian whose task is to preserve alternate histories and opposed to the widespread destruction of the White Clothes.
\
In the rest of the series, she usually appears in additional scenarios, accompanying [[SuperDoc Kada]] alongside her rival Himiko to help him find patients and dying people, in order to save them from their historical deaths.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Chousen has feelings for Kazuto, but she scares him more than anything.
%%* BaldHeadOfToughness: She's bald and one of the most powerful people of the series.
* BerserkButton: Whatever you do, ''don't tell her she's not pretty''; she doesn't take that very well.
* ChekhovsGunman: In the first game, she turns out to have a major role in the universe Kazuto ended up in, and also has a lot involvement with Ukitsu and Saji.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She acts like an idiot half the time, but she's actually incredibly strong.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: She's never seen wearing anything but a thong.

->''"Everyone, look! The Red Cliffs are burning REEEEEEEEED!!"''

A white-haired mustached transgender woman wearing a loincloth under a blazer, instead of a woman in the historical novel, depicted as the queen of Wa (the ancient Chinese name of Japan) who shows up in the special campaign unlocked after completing the campaigns of the three warring factions.
----
* AnonymousBenefactor: At the very end of ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', after Sousou admits her loss and her intent to go to another country, Himiko appears to transport her alongside her generals into a new land alongside her generals, implied to be either Taiwan or Wa/Japan.
* BadassLongcoat: Unlike Chousen, she has actual clothing: A coat going down to her knees.
* NoShirtLongJacket: She wears an open blazer with no shirt underneath.

->''"It's just as they say...She's only a raging tiger. A mere animal. I don't think it could be wise enough to defeat a human."''

A warlord and vassal of the Keishuu (Jingzhou) province. She's a cunning, ruthless, and greedy woman who's not particularly belligerent, but she's known to have the strength of will to make a quick decision when she sees an opportunity, and the persistence to not retreat until she gets what she wants.
\
She first appears in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'', plotting to take over Go one day and kill its leader Yenren along with the rest of the Son family. She likes strong women, and is especially obsessed with her former associate Kannei (Shishun), who has a large fleet of ships.
----
* ArcVillain: She's the main antagonist of the first story of ''Eiyuutan 4'', having survived her battle against Sheren and bent on taking revenge against her, long after the creation of the Three Kingdoms.
* EleventhHourRanger: She's playable for the final battle against the Goko in ''Ryuuki no Taimou''.
* BenevolentBoss: Implied. When the entire army of Go starts aiming for her life, every soldier working for her choose to protect her at all costs.
* BetterToDieThanBeKilled: Her final fate in ''Son Go no Ketsumyaku''. When all of Go's generals start chasing her, she began to flee as her soldiers sacrifice their life for her. When she's ultimately cornered by Shishun, she's mortally wounded, but ultimately choose to dive in the river to not give her the satisfaction of killing her.
* TheCharmer: She has a natural charisma and is pretty good at convincing others to do her bidding, so much that her soldiers are more than ready to sacrifice their life for her.
* EnemyMine: As the threat of the Goko grows stronger in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', she sets aside her plans to kill Yenren to fight alongside the other kingdoms.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Her outfit has several asymmetric elements such as only wearing a boot on the left foot while being barefoot in the right.
* HeroKiller: She has the distinction of killing Yenren, the BigGood and founder of the Go Kingdom.
* HidingBehindYourBangs: Her long bangs cover the right side of her face, which reflects her devious and manipulative nature.
* IrrationalHatred: Most of her dialogue is loaded with hatred for the Son family, eventually culminating in the death of Yenren.
* ManipulativeBitch: She convinces Kouchuu and Gien to help her taking down Sonken Bundai under the excuse of "prevent her bloody conquest", when she was actually after Sonsaku and quickly abandons them to their fate afterwards.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Her top is completely open at the front, exposing her cleavage and navel while barely covering her breasts.
* NeverFoundTheBody: After disappearing in the river, she's never seen again, but given her grievous wounds, the generals of Go think it's unlikely she would survive. ''Eiyuutan 4'' notably has her surviving the events, and become something akin to a ghost haunting the Son family.
* PsychoLesbian: She has a strong interest with Shishun, who used to be her partner when she was a pirate. After the latter joined Go, she sets her sights on Taishiji, one of her few allies.
* SoftSpokenSadist: Despite talking in a very quiet tone, she usually rants about her desire to "kill the tiger" (a euphemism for Sonken Bundai) and take over Go.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: In a series consisting mostly of romancing gender-flipped warlords in a relatively tame adaptation of the Three Kingdoms, she stands out by being the sole villainous warrior of them all, with no redeeming qualities at all. Even the most selfish characters from the Imperial Kan faction, such as the Ka sisters, became reluctant retainers of Gi and befriended a peasant.

[[folder:Goko (Wu Hu)]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/goukou_generic_soldier.png]]

An exonym designating five of the largest non-Kan tribes roaming in Northern China. As the country slowly descends into full-blown civil war following the Yellow Turban Rebellion, the Goko used this opportunity to invade and plunder it, attempting to establish their own kingdom in the process. Although mentioned in Gi (''Souten no Haou'') and Go's (''Son Go no Ketsumyaku'') stories, they make their only appearance in Shoku's story and its remake, ''Ryuuki no Taimou'' as the final antagonists of the game.
----
* AdaptationalWimp: The Wu Hu in history proper managed to conquer Northern China as the Jin Dynasty was crumbling, while in ''Koihime'' they are defeated by the alliance of the warlords.
* FinalBoss: They are the last opponents fought in ''Ryuuki no Taimou'', and their massive numbers require all of the available warlords to gather their armies together to fight the invasion.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: Downplayed. The Goko are stated to have their own culture and customs as non-Kan confederacies, but they appear as little more than generic nomadic warriors attacking and ransacking the country.
* OutsideContextProblem: Their presence is noticed throughout the story, but they waited until the aftermath of the defeat of Sousou near the end to attack.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Izzat]]
The king of an unnamed island country located off the coast of southern China, visited by several generals of Go and appearing in ''Eiyuutan 4''. Wanting to enrich his island and give a better life to its citizens, Izzat then choose to trust two tourists from the mainland, which happened to be [[EvilDuo Enjutsu and Choukun]], who proposed to help him modernize the island.
\
Things quickly turned for the worse as Enjutsu and Choukun were effectively given the reins to much of the island, allowing them to control much of its trade and multiple properties. Having his power subverted, Izzat is then forced to act and Enjutsu's PuppetKing by threatening the island citizens.
----
