----
* BigDamnHeroes: It's not known for ''sure'', since the prologue didn't explicitly state who reached out a hand to students that were passing out, but Usami may have been the one to save all the students from dying in a snowstorm in the prologue.
%%* BlushSticker
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: If students fall asleep anywhere outside their dorms, they'll be punished, and not with an execution--rather, they'll be sentenced to a "time out".
%%* ElmuhFuddSyndwome

* InsistentTerminology: In Astral Blue, Usami calls herself Snow Angel ☆ Usami. [[SayItWithHearts Yes, including the star.]]

* TricksterMentor: Mild example, but she hides everyone's dorm keys around the lodge and made it into a scavenger hunt, in hopes of making things "more interesting".
%%* TrueBlueFemininity: Wearing a predominantly blue outfit.

!!Akira Iwamoto
!!!SHSL Electronic Musician
[[quoteright:218:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_electronic_musician_8239.png]]

Akira Iwamoto’s heart moves with the rhythm of his music. He has always had a passion for smooth beats, and that passion only kept growing as he grew older. His soul is digital, and his mind is wired with songs just waiting to be created. Akira has performed in music festivals all around Asia, where he always knows how to create the right atmosphere to brighten up a night with fun. He’s most popular for his fast and bubbly beats, and creative mixes of music that evoke a mood or feeling out of people. Besides just being a musician, Akira is just a happy-go-lucky person with a big head and a big heart.

Akira survives Astral Blue.
----
* AscendedFanboy: Has always had a passion for smooth beats, and as he grew older he started performing in music festivals and mixing his own music, becoming the Super High-School Level Electronic Musician.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
%%* ElectronicMusic: Akira's SHSL talent.
* GentleGiant: At 6'2", Akira is tied with Henri as the tallest students in the Astral Blue roster. However, he is described on his personal blog as "just a happy person with a big head and his heart in the right place."
* MeaningfulName: His first name is "Akira", which means "bright" or "clear", befitting his pleasantly energetic personality.
* NiceGuy: As his short public bio describes him, "Akira is just a happy-go-lucky person with a big head and a big heart."

!!Atohi Hayashi
!!!SHSL Herbalist
[[quoteright:232:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_herbalist_6941.png]]

An enthusiastic student and nature-lover, Atohi emerged as leading herbal practitioner in his field with his invitation to Hope’s Peak, besting modern medicines and technological advances with natural remedies and personal resolve. His technique, complex procedures, and ability to work with even the simplest of plants have alleviated countless illnesses thought to be incurable, and have dumbfounded doctors and scientists worldwide. Many have claimed the herbalists’ skills to be faked; an accusation the good-natured herbalist laughs off, proving even the most avid of skeptics wrong time and time again. Living most of his life on a reservation, Atohi’s recruitment has opened a wide door of opportunities for the aspiring herbalist, one he plans to take full advantage of.

During chapter 5's trial, Atohi jumps in front of Kazumi to take a blow for her when Monobear attempts to kill Kazumi. However, in chapter 6, Atohi is revealed to have survived and recovered from his injuries, so Atohi survives Astral Blue.
----
%%* HealingHerb: Atohi's SHSL talent.
* MeaningfulName: His first name "Atohi" means "Forest", befitting his SHSL talent as an Herbalist. His surname "Hayashi" is a common Japanese surname that means "woods", which again befits his SHSL talent as an Herbalist.
* NiceGuy: As listed under "Personality" on Atohi's page, "Atohi is rather outgoing and easily approachable. He holds a rather innocent view and will try to make people as comfortable in his prescence as posible."
%%* ThatOldTimePrescription: Atohi's SHSL talent.

!!Chiasa Adichi
!!!SHSL Ice Skater
[[quoteright:183:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_ice_skater_9016.png]]

From the time she was a young as six years old, Chiasa has been ice skating. Over the years she’s been in competitions for all different sorts of things, speed skating, figure skating, everything she could possibly do, and she’s won almost every single time. She’s won countless competitions throughout her entire life, and thanks to her parents constant bragging about it every chance they get wherever they go, it’s a rather well known fact. But a talent like this doesn’t come naturally of course; she spent her whole life training at the insistence of her parents. So much of her life, in fact, that it’s all she’s ever done. She was isolated her whole life from other people her own age, made to only ever practice and compete to earn her title. Due to this her social skills, assuming there ever had been any in the first place, have been worn away completely. It’s rare to see her express much emotion, in fact you probably won’t be able to tell how she feels until she acts on it.

When the class mistrials in chapter 5, Monobear chooses to wrongfully execute two random students, and Chiasa is one of the students he executes.
----
* ChildProdigy: She's won multiple skating competitions her whole life, ever since she was a child.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Chiasa is one of two students who are wrongfully executed when the class mistrials in chapter 5. Chiasa is placed onto a skating rink and made to skate, but blocks of jagged ice shoot up from the floor unexpectedly, and eventually she crashes into one of them. While dazed, metal hands grab her ankles and force her to repeatedly skate into the blocks of ice, causing her to be bruised and cut up. They eventually let her go for a breather, only to return and shove her into one of the edges of jagged ice sticking out from the wall, impaling Chiasa to death.
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* MeaningfulName: Her first name "Chiasa" means "one thousand mornings", and Chiasa has trained in ice skating her entire life.
* MiscarriageOfJustice: Wrongfully executed in chapter 5 when the class mistrials and Monobear chooses two random students to execute.
%%* RavenHairIvorySkin
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: She sacrificed her social skills to become a Super High-School Level Ice Skater.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Chiasa asks Monokuma if she can leave during chapter 2's trial and just cast her vote for the majority, but Monokuma refuses to let her leave because that would waste the electricity of the spare generator that powers the court elevator.
* StageMom: Chiasa had parents like these as a child, who insisted that she train in ice skating her whole life.
%%* TheStoic

!!Choko Kobayashi
!!!SHSL Silk Aerialist
[[quoteright:222:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_silk_aerialist_choko_kobayashi_7209.png]]

Choko began dancing as a toddler, loving the way her body moved and the art of performance. While becoming a dancer never quite took off, her skill at acrobatics, her drive for something exciting, and her skill with gymnastics saw her led into an unusual talent - silk aerials. Her natural bright and buoyant personality saw that her aerials were filled with joy and hope, and drew the attention of everyone for her skill at such a young age. While a devastating incident drew her out of the public’s eye for a few years, she returned with a vengeance, with an air of maturity and rawness of emotions to her performances that showed that no matter what had happened, she decided that she wasn’t giving up on her favorite style of performance yet. After performing with the renowned circus and acrobatic troupe ‘Cirque Du Soleil’, she was cemented in the public’s eye as an extraordinary silk aerialist, who went on to perform in some international shows before being scouted for Hope’s Peak Academy at the start of her high school years.

Choko Kobayashi is the chapter 3 murderer, but the class correctly figures out that it was her, and she is executed.
----
%%* BreakTheCutie: Broken due to the victim of week two.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Choko is the chapter 3 murderer, but she is caught and executed. She has to climb up a length of extremely long black fabric and make it through the exit at the top in 60 seconds while Monobears are chasing her from below. As she's climbing, the Monobears jump off the fabric and blades rise from the floor below. Choko takes a bit of a rest in relief, but this causes her to run out of time, and Monobear appears through the top exit to use a chainsaw to cut the safety ropes attaching the fabric to the carabiner, causing Choko to fall to the floor below where blades rip her body to pieces as the Monobear audience applauds the show.
* DeathWail: Choko's reaction to K's death consisted first of silence, then screaming, then sobbing.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: With K's death, Choko has refused to confirm anything that may have happened between them.
* FirstKiss: Confirmed, with K.
* GenkiGirl: She has a bright and buoyant personality.
* GroinAttack: According to Choko's player, Choko is not afraid to use her height to hit people where it hurts if they're really big jerks.
* HerBoyfriendsJacket: Choko asks Monobear during the Week 2 Investigation if she can keep K's jacket, now that he's dead.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Seen when Choko asked Akira to give her a piggy-back ride. Generally appropriate for most of her fellow classmates except for the ones more closer to her size - also applies to female classmates.
* MeaningfulName: 'Choko', or 'Chouko' means "butterfly child", and Kobayashi means "small forest", so her name can be literally viewed as "butterfly child in a small forest". Her first name "Choko" can alternately mean "small child", and indeed, Choko is 4'6", making her the second shortest student in the Astral Blue roster (only Eiseng is shorter).
* NoodleIncident: We don't yet know what incident drew her out of the public eye for a few years.
* OfficialCoupleOrdealSyndrome: K and Choko are both participating in a mutual game of killing. This, unfortunately, is fatal for K, as he was killed in week two.
%%* RavenHairIvorySkin
* RelationshipReveal: Choko calls K her boyfriend after his murdered body is found, only to stop midword and rephrase her sentence.
* ShoutOut: Choko's penultimate performance was with the well-known, real-life circus/acrobatic troupe Creator/CirqueDuSoleil.
* SilkHidingSteel: Choko's SHSL talent involves working with silk, but it is a dangerous talent requiring a great deal of skill as a "silk aerialist" is someone who performs an acrobatic routine while attached to silk in the air, and the act sometimes requires death-defying drops from the silk.
%%* TrueBlueFemininity: Choko's Dreamself sprite is wearing a blue outfit.

!!Eiseng Solo
!!!SHSL Beatboxer
[[quoteright:312:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_beatboxer_2510.png]]

Videos of her beatboxing in her youth skyrocketed her to fame. To maintain her popularity, she adopted a character of sorts and added oversexual mannerisms for intentional controversy, which have made her a constant target of the paparazzi. Her policy is that any attention is good attention.

Eiseng is one of two murder victims in chapter 6, found dead of hypothermia.
----
* DoNotDoThisCoolThing: Eiseng Solo tricks paparazzi into doing this through intentionally controversial behavior. The idea is that while the media attacks her for her oversexual mannerisms, she'll benefit from the "free publicity", since any attention is good attention. [[invoked]]
* InnocentBlueEyes: Eiseng hasn't killed anyone yet. However, her personality aside from that is not quite innocent.
* MeaningfulName: Her last name "Solo" is fitting, as her Beatboxing SHSL talent is a solo talent, requiring her to adopt a "character" of sorts.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: At 4'5", Eiseng is the shortest student in the Astral Blue roster. However, she is an extremely talented Beatboxer.
* ScaryTeeth: Some of Eiseng's sprites depict her as having a mouth full of sharp teeth.
* SheKnowsTooMuch: Eiseng was not originally intended to be one of the chapter 6 culprit's victims, but Eiseng walked in on the culprit murdering Elara, so the culprit killed Eiseng as well to silence her.
* SnowMeansDeath: When Eiseng is found dead in chapter 6, her body is found outside in the snow.

!!Elara Sterling
!!!SHSL Astrophysicist
[[quoteright:175:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_astrophysicist_3025.png]]

Astronomers Mr. and Mrs. Sterling were lovingly proud of their little girl, Elara Sterling, and she in turn always shared their interest in outer space. Looking up at the stars every night caused little Elara to wonder what the stars were made of, and from there, unlike her parents who studied the movements of space, she wondered what made the stars tick and planets behave as they did. She began attending astrophysics conventions; the astrophysicists, thrilled to have a cute little girl take an interest in their field, unofficially adopted her as their “mascot”. Then, on the best and the worst day in Elara Sterling’s life, she pointed out an error in a scientist’s theory and discovered a brand new solar system, thus earning her Super High-School Level title of SHSL Astrophysicist…right on the same day that she suffered the worst tragedy of her life. Despite this, Elara announced to the scientific community that she would head off to Hope’s Peak with her head held high and move forward, and continues to say little on the matter other than that, refusing even to reveal what happened to her that day unless specifically asked.

Elara is one of two murder victims in chapter 6, found dead of blunt force trauma.
----
%%* ApologizesALot: While introducing herself to her classmates in the prologue.
* DaddysGirl: As Elara reveals to Sachiko in a conversation in the prologue, a few weeks before Elara left for Hope's Peak, Elara's father became sentimental at the idea of his daughter leaving, so he and Elara had an impromptu father-daughter dance while listening to the radio.
* GoodParents: Elara's parents were both loving, wonderful people and they nurtured her interest in her SHSL talent. Which made it hurt all the worse when Elara's mother was murdered in her childhood, as she recently revealed in chapter 3's trial.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: In the prologue, Elara unintentionally makes Johannes uncomfortable and fails to notice this, because she speaks to him as she is walking back from the kitchen through the dining room and back to the lobby, and does not stop walking as she is talking to him.
* ItsAllMyFault:
** Feels this way after her naming Mirai as a suspect in chapter 1's trial causes the class to vote for Mirai, and thus ''mistrial''.
** Gets an even bigger case of this in chapter 5's trial when it happens a ''second'' time as Elara changes her vote at the last minute, contributing to a mistrial. In fact, in this case, "It's All My Fault" is even the title of her post.
* LethalChef: Elara can make food that's edible enough to eat, but not up to the standards of actual chefs.
* MeaningfulName: Elara was named after "Elara", one of Jupiter's 67 moons (the eighth largest moon, to be precise), and her last name "Sterling" means "genuine" or "high quality" in the present day, and was derived from an Old English term meaning "little star". This is a fitting name for a high-quality (thus SHSL) Astrophysicist who is a "little star" because she's the Astrophysicist "daughter" of astronomers.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone:
** Feels this way after her naming Mirai as a suspect in chapter 1's trial causes the class to vote for Mirai, and thus ''mistrial''.
** And again after chapter 5's trial ends in a mistrial.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** In chapter 1's trial, Elara names Mirai as a suspect because Mirai might have access to pink silk fabric and is rich. However, the class ends up ''voting'' for Mirai...and Mirai didn't do it, so Monobear executes an ''innocent''.
** She accidentally contributes to a mistrial ''again'' in chapter 5, as she jumps the gun and changes her vote to a new suspect, thus contributing the very last vote for what turns out to be the wrong person.
* NoodleIncident: It wasn't revealed in-character what childhood tragedy she suffered on the same day she earned her SHSL title until chapter 3's trial, when Elara answered Makoto's question about her motive card: Elara's mother was murdered by her aunt after her aunt went insane with jealousy and nihilism. Her parents were successful, while her aunt had lost an election as a politician. So Elara's aunt murdered her sister, Elara's mother, to try to teach Elara that life had no meaning. Her aunt tried to kill her father too, but her father was able to fight off her aunt and point out that since people are stardust, like the universe, the universe has as much meaning as people give it.
* PetTheDog: Elara focuses on the fact that Usami saved the students' lives from the snowstorm, and thanks her for the rescue with a hug.
* SnowMeansDeath: When Elara is found dead in chapter 6, her body is found outside in the snow.
* TheStoic: She expresses her feelings more through her body language than through her face, so her face usually has a stoic expression.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** A minor example, but in chapter 3 Elara literally investigates almost ''every single room'', which is much more involved than she was previously. She also finally accuses the right person in chapter 3's trial by combining everyone else's evidence, when in the previous two trials she had been mistaken, so she is much more competent in chapter 3 than she was in the previous two chapters.
** Elara is one of several students who, in chapter 4, notice the culprit pulling a crucial piece of evidence off his shoe, and Elara connects this evidence to an earlier piece of evidence that Kazumi introduced.
* VerbalTic: She always addresses others as two compliments, then their talent, then their full name, and then "sama". For example, if she were talking to Haruka from the previous game, she would address her as "Beautiful and Extroverted Interior Designer Haruka Arishima-sama".

!!Eri Yamamoto[=/=]Naomi Akiyama
!!!SHSL Puzzler
[[quoteright:160:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_puzzler_3274.png]]

Eri was quite the new face in his talent’s originally small community, only appearing about two years ago, but despite this he has quickly risen to the top. He started with an anonymous blog of puzzles of his own creation and earned some fans. Some started sending him puzzles for him to solve. There didn’t seem to be a solvable puzzle he couldn’t put together. Only a year ago he revealed himself to the public. His reveal went quite viral over the web and only helped make him even more popular. The puzzle community also grew in large thanks to him. First only really acknowledged as puzzle game fans or those rubik’s cube fanatics, now an entire new breed of puzzlers are coming out.

Eri is one of two murder victims in chapter 5, found dead of exsanguination. It turns out that Eri and Harumi killed each other, but the class mistrialed and Monobear revealed this fact too late.
----
* TheAce: There isn't a puzzle Eri can't solve, as long as the puzzle is in fact solvable.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: According to a recently posted transmission between Genji and Eri, Eri used to be in the Yakuza.
* HiddenDepths: Eri mostly likes puzzles and riddles, which is expected of a SHSL Puzzler, but his "Interests" also include "medical science."
* ItAmusedMe: In the prologue, he decides to start gathering up more than one key during the scavenger hunt to have fun.
* MeaningfulName: His first name, "Eri", can have many meanings depending on how the kanji is written, but the meanings that are most relevant to the Puzzler can include "blessing" or "excel", and Eri is blessed to have excelled in his SHSL talent as a Puzzler.
* MysticalWhiteHair: Well, Eri doesn't have magical powers, but he is Super High-School Level talented at puzzle-solving.
%%* ScarfOfAsskicking
* StockPuzzle: Solving these, as well as all puzzles in general, is Eri's SHSL talent.
* TookALevelInBadass: Finds a lot of the evidence along with Kazumi in chapter 2.

!!Shun "Exusval" Tachibana
!!!SHSL MMORPG Gamer
[[quoteright:219:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_mmorpg_gamer_5792.png]]

He is in every online game’s top 100 players, Exus Val, or as most people refer to him, just Exus. There is no MMORPG that he did not play and endgame, collected the most prized armors, weapons and skills for each class, for each race of every game. Some might say he is a mysterious character that shows up briefly and conquers in a few hours, mercilessly crushing enemies on his path— while others who actually spoke to him say he is a very generous, fair-play and overall incredibly strong player. That though, is what he is in the virtual world; as for the real world… He is the same, without the incredible magical and physical strengths. If reality is so accepting, then why it is I, a self-proclaimed warrior.

When Monobear first appears and threatens everyone with his mutual killing game, Exus gets so angry at what he perceives to be a gamer on a power trip that he throws a knife at Monobear. He misses, and Monobear breaks his arm as punishment for attacking him, but Exus survives. However, Exus Val is later murdered in chapter 4, found dead of cardiac arrest.
----
* AllPartOfTheShow: Exus Val does not understand why everyone else is so upset that a "kill" happened in a "Player versus Player" zone, isn't that the ''point'' of such a zone? Besides, the murdered girl will just respawn at another player point eventually anyway.
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: To "Rhythm" in chapter 3. "Rhythm" eventually reciprocates, and they become a couple.
%%* BadassLongcoat
%%* ConspicuousTrenchcoat
%%* CoolShades
* DyingMessage: He had time to write a final note to Shirogane before he died.
%%* MassivelyMultiplayerOnlineRolePlayingGame: His SHSL talent.
%%* MasterOfAll: Certainly in game.
* OfficialCouple: With "Rhythm", as of chapter 3. Unfortunately, this is cut short when Exus Val is murdered in chapter 4.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He gives one to Monobear as soon as Monobear appears, telling Monobear that if Monobear just wanted to throw people into cages to fight to the death like roosters, he should have simply played some online games to that effect, not treat other people like tools, and steal all their stuff on top of it like a coward.
* TooManyBelts: Which actually befits his SHSL talent as a MMORPG Gamer: like many characters in Japanese role playing games, Exus's outfit has more belts on it than he actually needs, since outfits with a great deal of belts are popular in Japan.

!!Genji Tatsuya
!!!SHSL Archer
[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_archer_6203.png]]

Genji grew up in a small town and spent most of his time outdoors and learning archery. He is an only child and never knew any of his extended family. He almost never left his hometown, so big cities are new to him. He spent anytime not at school, practicing archery. When he went to high school he joined their Archery club. Later earning a spot in a local competition, Genji took top marks and won first place. This also got him noticed by Hope’s Peak. It was a big step out of his comfort zone but after much thinking Genji accepted the offer to the school. This was the first time he spent more then a day away from his hometown.

Genji survives Astral Blue.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Upon hearing that chapter 5's "motive" is a promise to either change the past or bring a loved one back from the dead, Genji is finally pushed to the breaking point and ''snaps'', yelling at Monobear to stop playing with their lives like some sick joke, that he's done playing Monobear's games, and he won't let Monobear control him.
%%* FaceFramedInShadow: During his HeroicBSOD.
* HeroicBSOD: Upon learning that his friend Eri killed Harumi after all, and the class's refusal to vote for Eri has caused a mistrial and two innocents to be executed. As Genji leaves the courtroom, his body is almost on autopilot.
* MeaningfulName: His first name "Genji" means "two beginnings", as Genji's talent as a Super High School Level begun when he won first place in a local competition, which got him noticed by Hope's Peak Academy and thus marked the first time he spent more than a day away from his hometown, hence "two beginnings". His last name "Tatsuya" means "accomplished one", and he is a very accomplished archer.
* NoSell: Genji's first skill. Spending so much time hunting and tracking has allowed Genji to clear his mind of all worries and problems, completely focusing on his objective. From tracking a target to shooting at the range and even in his everyday life.
* SilentRunningMode: Genji's second skill. Genji has always been very light on his feet and has learned how to move about undetected. He often used this skill when tracking something for long distances. This ability isn’t full proof and it requires a lot of focus and for Genji to be in good physical condition.
* SmallTowns: Genji grew up in one.
* TookALevelInBadass: Genji immediately finds the murder weapon almost right off the bat during chapter 3's investigation.

!!Harumi Anezaki
!!!SHSL Disciplinarian
[[quoteright:259:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_disciplinarian_138.png]]

After the recent string of gang activity amongst school wide areas, Nishimura Academy’s direct intervention has caused the stalemate between delinquents and authorities to shift into a radical victory. Utilizing her school’s sanctioned disciplinary committee under a tactical leadership did Harumi Anezaki earn the name ‘Commander General’ during the elected period of disciplinary action against misconducting juveniles. With her prowess and dedication for public safety, her selection into Hope’s Peak Academy was nearly expected upon being awarded by the Local Police, along with the rest of her committee, as ‘Outstanding Youth Activism’, celebrated on National Television for their feats.

Harumi is one of two murder victims in chapter 5, found dead of cardiac arrest. It turns out that Eri and Harumi killed each other, but the class mistrialed and Monobear revealed this fact too late.
----
* AbsurdlyPowerfulStudentCouncil: Sort of, since Harumi is Super-High-School-Level-talented at being a disciplinarian.
%%* AloofDarkHairedGirl
* HarmonyVersusDiscipline: She sides with the "discipline" end of the scale.
* HatesBeingTouched: Harumi reveals to Makoto in chapter 5 that she ''hates'' others putting their hands on her.
* HugeSchoolgirl: Harumi is 6'0".
* ImNotHereToMakeFriends: According to Harumi's character quote, "Your name is Anezaki Harumi and you are not kind, you are not fair, you are not forgiving. It would be best not to cross you."
* InnocentBlueEyes: Played straight in that she hasn't killed anyone yet; subverted in that her personality is, rather than "innocent", intentionally written by the player to be cold and tactless.
%%* IronLady
%%* LadyOfWar
* NoSocialSkills: Harumi's player describes her as lacking empathy and tact.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Presumably good at giving these out as a Super High School Level Disciplinarian. She gives a nasty one to Nanako upon discovering that Nanako killed Susumu and let the innocent Honoka die for it instead, all while thinking she was protecting everyone from the motive.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge:
** When Harumi finds out that Nanako was chapter 1's culprit, and Nanako let an innocent person die instead, Harumi responds by beating the tar out of Nanako while screaming.
** She does this again in chapter 4's trial when she feels Marco is hiding something from the rest of the class.
* SailorFuku: She wears a blue one with a red ribbon. However, while she is a schoolgirl, she does not fit the usual "innocent" implications of this trope, as she's an efficient disciplinarian and strong woman.

!!Henri Bonheur
!!!SHSL Castle Actor
[[quoteright:194:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_castle_actor_1808.png]]

Henri’s most noted for his limitless passion! Why, he puts everything into what he does. what does he do? He’s a castle actor! He spends day and night, acting as a noble knight for a royal king at various different castles-turned-theme-park. Henri isn’t your run of the mill soldier, either, no. He plays his part with courage and energy, and always seems to entertain the public. Even when he’s out of his armor, he’s known to act bravely for the people, when they so demand.

He's the chapter 2 murderer, stabbing K to death, but the class figures out it was him, especially after he confesses.
----
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: He's chapter 2's murderer, and he's correctly caught and executed. He's placed blindfolded on a ship that suddenly starts rocking back and forth, knocking him about, and the ship is set on fire. The rocking ship finally knocks him into the flames repeatedly, and then the ship starts spinning around and knocking him about even more, until he finally dies from a combination of being burnt and beaten to death.
* DorkKnight: Henri isn't very well versed in socializing, and doesn't know a whole lot about anything other than being a "real knight". This can come off as being a dorky quality, at times.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: He confesses to murdering K. in chapter 2, and he freely admits he knows this will just mean he'll die too and he accepts that.
* FearlessFool: According to his personality entry on his personal blog, Henri is all about action, and isn’t afraid to jump into anything all guns blazing. In fact, he usually dives headfirst, wholeheartedly into whatever it is he does. He would rather shoot first and ask questions later if what he’s fighting is deemed a threat. He portrays himself as fearless, and brave, and courageous and all those good words. He claims that he isn’t afraid of anything, and that he can’t afford to be.
* GentleGiant: At 6'2", Henri is tied with Akira as the tallest students in the Astral Blue roster, and Henri's really nice.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Henri has "good" scars, as they were most likely obtained in his performances as a Castle Actor.
%%* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Subverted when he murders K in chapter 2.
* KnightInShiningArmor: His SHSL talent of being a Castle Actor requires him to play these, and he has the generous personality for it as well.
* LargeHam: A positive example of this trope, as this is necessary for Henri's SHSL talent as a Castle Actor. As one demonstration, he introduces himself in chapter 1's trial as follows:
-->"My name is Henri Bonheur. Though my Super High School Level title is Castle Actor, make no mistake I am a '''king''' to the highest degree. As such, I shall make it my dying duty to instill in you, ''enemy'' the foulest fear and terror for your indefensible crime against the '''Tountra Kingdom'''."
* MeaningfulName: His first name, "Henri", is an Old French name and derived from the Germanic name "Haimric", which is a compound of "haim" meaning "home" and "ric" meaning "power" or "ruler", and a Castle Actor performs in "castles", or "the homes of powerful rulers" such as kings. His last name "Bonheur" is a French word meaning "good luck", and Henri Bonheur is lucky enough to be Super High-School Level talented at being a Castle Actor.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: He has a strong, muscular build from all his handling of knight equipment as a Castle Actor.
%%* NiceGuy: Subverted when he murders K in chapter 2.
* NoIndoorVoice: His player describes his voice on his blog as follows:
-->"One of his most notable features is his loud, almost booming voice. Henri speaks as loudly and nobly as he can, to try and sound like a noble warrior. He doesn’t sound quite demanding, though it can come off as aggressive."
* RedEyesTakeWarning: So far averted. Henri's eyes are rust-colored, but he hasn't killed anyone yet. Played straight in chapter 2, when Henri kills K.
* ToBeAMaster: According to Henri's page, his end goal is to become a king, but not in a political sense. Rather, he wants to be the best, most powerful warrior, who would jump into action on a dime for his people to keep them safe. He views kingship as the ultimate sacrifice, and that his lacking hesitation in giving up anything for people is the price he has to pay, as worthwhile a price as it is.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He murders K because he thinks the cat burglar has suspicious intentions, and Henri's duty as a "king" is to protect his people. In an unusual example of this trope, Henri freely admits that his murder will also mean ''he too'' must die to protect his kingdom, and he accepts that fate and confesses to the murder.

Hideaki Daitan has always held a special place in the followers of the fighting game scene’s hearts, as that one kid who came to prominence at the age of 15, and suddenly started to become the best, as if by magic. Having taken too many tournaments to even count, including any major he can attend, Hideaki has quickly rose to fame as the most prominent Fighting Game Player around. Not content with just one game, he has mastered every single game he can get his hands on, from the major releases which garner worldwide attention, to obscure doujin games. No matter the game, he’s played it, and he knows how to beast in it. His sheer fundamental ability in said games is second to none, and some wonder if he can truly read minds… which is untrue. He’s just simply that good.

* HeroicBSOD: After Susumu is murdered in chapter 1, all Hideaki does is "back up to a corner, slide down the wall, and cower in fear. He could be next, after all."
* HotBlooded: Sort of. According to his personality description on his personal blog, Hideaki is a very passionate person, liable to outbursts and raging to the chagrin of everyone involved. When he isn’t playing videogames or flipping off the handle, he’s actually quite quiet, and is very intent on what others have to say.
* MeaningfulName: His first name, "Hideaki", is a combination of "hide" (excellent) and "aki" (bright), and his last name, "Daitan", means "bold" or "daring". This fits his hot-blooded personality and his excellence in playing fighting games.

Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Honoka Yoshida was known as a prodigy child thanks to her ability to process thoughts and easily understand any kind of things she was put to, excelling at all her school assignments and getting prizes, diplomas of “Ace Student”. She was quite introverted and that put her to disadvantage in a social aspect. She found herself being interested in universe and cosmology itself, attending conventions for science, buying books, and researching the subject majorly. In high-school, she joined a research team, being the only one underage in the group. They made breakthroughs in the subject, and Honoka became more experienced in the energy and mass theories of space. Determination and desire for fame made her spend big amounts of time in research, along with her team— this gave them amounts of fame, breakthroughs within their field and prizes such as the Gruber Prize of Cosmology, and recognition by the International Astronomical Union. The team then entered a museum, to encourage people to enter the field of Astronomy or other fields of science— she is currently recognized as a Science Publicist.

Unfortunately, the class votes incorrectly in the 1st trial, and Monobear chooses a random student to execute. Monobear picks Honoka, and Honoka is wrongfully executed in a mistrial.

Lights! Camera! Action! Johannes, the makeup artist, is on the scene! At age 8, he was doing his mother’s makeup after she’d noticed his prolific talent. By age 13, many people admired his work among the adults and teenagers in his school, and he set multiple trends with his more creative stylings, posted over the internet. Around this time, he also picked up popularity in certain circuits for his ability to make a definedly male face look female, and, to a lesser extent, the other way around. His skills only improved with age, and Johannes is skilled at applying makeup in just the right way to create an interesting look. He’s well known for his ability to bring out someone’s personality through their face and the proper application of makeup, and has been hired to work as a makeup technician for movies and theater preformances in the past.

* PhenotypeStereotype: They're blonde, blue-eyed, and from the USA, so they qualify, unsurprisingly.

If your talent includes Enthusiast in the title, it’s not hard to assume that the person itself is a pretty enthusiastic fellow. As soon as you speak about the Sengoku period, you will have to deal with the very passionate Kazumi, a girl who appreciates everything that is somehow tied to this particular time of Japanese History – even if some contributions like games and books take liberties with their portrayal. She became invested in this era after hearing about it in her history class and since then, is completely encaptured by it. Her collection of Sengoku-related items is astounding, having even some real documents and the likes in her possession, one of them being a pile of old books that describe some facts that weren’t known until then. Coupled with her incredible knowledge about the Sengoku period, this earned her an invitation of the highly-esteemed Hope’s Peak Academy.

After Monobear's unfair decision in chapter 5 to wrongfully execute ''two'' random students for a mistrial instead of one, Kazumi challenges Monobear. Monobear leaps at her to kill her, but she is spared when Atohi takes the blow in her place, so Kazumi survives Astral Blue.
----
* AscendedFangirl: Kazumi became invested in the Sengoku period after hearing about it in history class, and eventually she became a Super High-School Level Sengoku Enthusiast.
* DisappointedInYou: Kazumi says this to Nanako, after Nanako confesses to murdering Susumu in chapter 1's trial but confesses ''too late'', causing an innocent to be executed in Nanako's place.
* GenkiGirl: Becomes very enthusiastic whenever given the opportunity to talk about the Sengoku period; in fact, it's her SHSL talent as a Sengoku Enthusiast.
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* MeaningfulName: Kazumi means "beautiful harmony", befitting her harmonious personality. Morino means "forest field", and the Sengoku period in history was not as industrialized as the present day, so the number of forests and fields in the Sengoku period would have been greater than that number today.
* NiceGirl: Kazumi speaks politely (if enthusiastically) to everyone, asking others about themselves. On her relationships page, every entry about a classmate is a compliment.
* NoSell: Kazumi's reaction to chapter 4's "motive", each student obtaining someone else's darkest secret, is that she feels underwhelmed: while Kazumi's secret is embarrassing, everyone has embarrassing secrets, it's nothing to kill over. Meanwhile, once Kazumi has someone else's secret, she considers it harmless, so again it is nothing to kill over.
* PetTheDog: Kazumi optimistically figures that Usami only wants everyone to stay here until they make friends with each other, and Kazumi even pets Usami's rabbit ears.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After Harumi loses her temper in chapter 4's trial, Kazumi gets fed up with Harumi's violent behavior and accuses Harumi of definitely lacking the self-control to be a Disciplinarian.
* TookALevelInBadass: Finds a lot of the evidence along with Eri during chapter 2, and locates all of the victim's wounds in chapter 3 which helps prove something about the culprit.

Usually, this would call for punishment, but once admin realized he has exceptional skill in thievery, they decided to let him keep the invitation, as the act itself was proof that he is SHSL. He wanted to get in so he can have the fame and recognition he wants. Being famous in underground circles and gangs as the best burglar in Japan, this greedy boy felt like he needed more. 371Her father was born and raised in Trento, Italy. He performed with a troupe of performers based in Japan as a psychic, making dazzling predictions and performing all kinds of unbelievable feats. Over the years he became very well-known, his fame spreading overseas, at least when he was targeted by famed skeptic James Randi, who exposed him as a fraud. This tore his heart out, tearing his family apart in the process. He never actually divorced his wife, instead simply walking out on them and moving away when Makoto was four. She was raised by her mother alone, growing to resent not only her father, feeling him a coward, but others in his line of work as well. When Nuncio left, he left behind several books and props allowing her to study the basics of magic. This got her interested in studying the practice further, however she had no interest in performing, no. Instead, she had the goal of exposing those performers who claimed to have legitimate magic or psychic powers as frauds. She started small, crashing a few nightclub performers’ acts and flawlessly replicating their ‘powers’. Over time, people started taking notice. She soon turned her attention to a famous medium, proving her a fraud live on her own television show. Nonetheless, this was what got her noticed by Hope’s Peak Academy, earning her the title of Super High School Level Skeptic.

* ParentalAbandonment: Her father just ''left'' when Makoto was four, instead of properly divorcing his wife. Since her father was a psychic, this motivated Makoto to start exposing psychics and other magicians for the frauds they really are. Unfortunately the trope would soon also apply to her mother; Makoto reveals in chapter 4's trial, while trying to make a point to Kazumi, that her mother killed herself. Makoto reveals this to demonstrate that it's not ''entirely'' impossible that Exus Val might also have killed himself.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She and Kazumi start giving these to each other after they have a disagreement on whether or not Harumi's actions are understandable in chapter 4's trial (Makoto sympathizes with Harumi, while Kazumi does not). Also, when chapter 5's trial ends in a mistrial, Makoto angrily berates everyone who voted for the wrong person and thus caused the mistrial to happen.
* ShoutOut: The famous real-life skeptic James Randi appears in Makoto's backstory, as the man who exposed her father as a fraud.
* TookALevelInBadass:
** Makoto figures out that what Genji found had to be the murder weapon in chapter 3, and this combined with whose locker it was found in helps prove who the culprit is.
** In chapter 4, Makoto is one of several students who notice the culprit pulling a crucial piece of evidence off his shoe.

As a young boy his head was always up in the clouds, dreaming about far off places and people who could never exist in the real world. As time went on, Marco’s mind drifted back to the ground and thus he returned to reality to grow into a perfectly normal person.

Directing his creativity to other hobbies, Marco found himself writing lyrics to random music pieces he found on the internet. After writing a set of lyrics for a competition for a popular music artist on Youtube, he won the contest and his lyrics were turned into a smash hit song. From then on he gained the attention of big name publishers wanting to work with him, going from zero to musical hero in the course of only several weeks.

His fame stayed with him when he moved to Japan for his father’s work and has had the pleasure of writing various lyrics and even full songs for some of the hottest musical artists in Japan today. His work and popularity caught the attention of Hope’s Peak Academy and before long he scored himself an invite to the prestigious institution.

Marco enters the tower to save her, but the tower fights against his efforts, shooting fire and spears at him. Marco perseveres and makes it all the way to the room at the top of the tower, only to find out that "Sally" is actually Monokuma wearing a purple dress and long wig. A black and white dragon with red eyes appears in the room and breathes fire at Marco, roasting him to death.
* DarkSecret: Monobear's chapter 4 "motive" is a threat to reveal everyone's darkest secrets, but with a twist: each student receives someone ''else's'' secret, rather than their own. In Marco's case, Exus Val received Marco's own secret, so Marco killed Exus. 449[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_volunteer_9968.png]]

Nanako Hidaka is the very definition of selfless. Growing up with her disabled mother, she found that she had a knack for tending to the needs of others. Her father, who worked at a retirement home, always stressed her about the importance of helping others. This lead to him taking her to the soup kitchen every Saturday so they could help feed the homeless. And Nanako loved every minute of it! From there on out, Nanako began to volunteer at any place possible. From animal shelters to homeless shelters, Nanako demonstrated a want to improve the lives of both humans and animals. Her selflessness, dedication, and social conduct are what grabbed the attention of Hope’s Peak Academy!

Nanako kills Susumu in chapter 1, but is not caught because the class incorrectly votes for Mirai, and Monobear randomly chooses Honoka to execute. This is revealed unusually quickly, however, as Nanako is overcome with guilt and ''confesses'' to murdering Susumu after the wrongful execution. Nanako later is the chapter 3 murder victim, found dead of hypothermia.
----
%%* AllLovingHeroine: Subverted when she kills Susumu in chapter 1 and gets away with it until being murdered in chapter 3.
* GenkiGirl: Nanako gives an enthusiastic introduction to her classmates in chapter 1's trial, using the "Neato!" slang and concluding with a small giggle.
%%* GoodFeelsGood
%%* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Subverted when she kills Susumu in chapter 1.
* KarmaHoudini: She kills Susumu in chapter 1 and gets away, because the class votes for the wrong person as the culprit. However, this is revealed unusually early, as Nanako ''confesses'' to having murdered Susumu soon after. Subverted in chapter 3, as she's that chapter's murder victim.
%%* NiceGirl: Subverted in chapter 1, as she kills Susumu and gets away with it, although she does confess afterwards.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Nanako's clothing consists of various shades of pink.
* PolitenessJudo: During the "great key hunt" at the beginning of the game, Nanako manages to get Usami to give her the key to her room, Room 14, simply by asking politely for it, which is notable because the rest of the class has been searching for hidden keys in furniture everywhere.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted so far. Nanako's eyes are pinkish-red, but she hasn't killed anyone yet. Played straight in chapter 1 when she kills Susumu and gets away with it until being murdered in chapter 3.
* SnowMeansDeath: Nanako is chapter 3's murder victim, and she is discovered inside a huge snowman outside; in order to uncover the body, Monokuma has to destroy the snowman.
* ThisIsNoTimeToPanic: Nanako has to tell herself after rushing in fright away from Susumu's body in chapter 1 and going to the dining room. She tells herself that others were even more frightened that someone has been murdered, so "while mourning was okay, instilling more fear into the hearts of others was not."
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: During the "great key hunt" at the beginning, Nanako doesn't have any pockets on her body, so she has to store the key in a place like this for the time being.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Monobear's chapter 1 "motive", a threat to cripple a student if a murder didn't occur, really rattled Nanako because Nanako watched her mother suffer as a result of being paralyzed from the neck down, unable to do anything. Nanako loved all the other students and didn't want them to have to go through the same thing as her mother, so she committed a murder to spare them from Monobear's motive.

!!Rosimar Mosso
!!!SHSL Clown
[[quoteright:223:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_clown_2497.png]]
The star of the popular travelling circus Circo de Magio, Rosimar is the leader of the show’s world-famous clown duo. Adored by both children and adults, he is a genius in comedy that is praised for his continuously flawless performances. Having visited most countries at the ripe age of 17, he is worldly wise and extremely experienced, born in Brazil and currently residing in Japan. Not a lot is known about him since he takes much care to avoid paparazzi and journalists. However, having entertained audiences for most of his life, it is rumoured that it only takes 10 seconds of speaking to him to get hysterics out of you.

Rosimar survives Astral Blue.
----
* TheHermit: Sort of. Rosimar has to avoid paparazzi and journalists, so the public doesn't know too much about him.
* KindheartedCatLover: One of Rosimar's sprites shows him holding a cat.
* MeaningfulName: His last name, "Mosso", is an Italian word that can mean "animated" or "rapid" or "with motion", and his Super High-School Level talent as a Clown is a talent that requires constant enthusiasm to make people laugh in hysterics.
* NonIronicClown: Clowns are supposed to entertain people and make them laugh, and Rosimar Mosso is Super-High-School-Level-talented at doing so.
* OnlySaneMan: Sometimes Rosimar feels like this; for example, during chapter 1's trial, Rosimar tried to get his classmates to focus on narrowing down suspects instead of going off in different directions and arguments. Also, when Monobear first proposed his mutual killing game, Rosimar immediately tried to spread the idea of rebelling against Monobear instead of taking part in the game. Even during chapter 1's trial, Rosimar defaults and votes for himself, but only because voting for Monobear, which he ''really'' wanted to do, wasn't an option.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted. Rosmiar's eyes are pinkish-red, but he survives Astral Blue without killing anyone.

!!Sachiko Mai
!!!SHSL Classical Composer
[[quoteright:162:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_classical_composer_9103.png]]

Sachiko’s father, of whom she takes after, was also a relatively well-known composer, so it’s safe to say she’s been classically trained since birth. And, as with the Bachs, the child has proven to be more successful than the father. She wrote her first piece when she was seven, a goodbye gift to her mother. Then her career really kicked off, as her father found it and released it to the public (under his name at first, but then revealed the truth in an interview once it got super popular a few weeks later). She then assisted her father in making compositions for various movies and TV shows (gaining lots of useful connections to be used in her favor), as well as working on her own super secret personal project behind his back (except in truth, he knew all along), Fairytale, which was released just a few months prior of her being accepted into Hope’s Peak. Thanks to some meddling with connections, a live performance of it aired in Tokyo, catching the attention of thousands. Despite the title of Classical Composer, her music is more of a fusion of classical music, pop rock, and enka.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Not only does she tell everyone off after the first mistrial with an eerily serene smile on her face, she ''snaps'' when she finds out that K is the victim of Chapter 2. And then her expression returns to her unreadable smile.
* ButNotTooForeign: Sachiko's last name, "Mai", is a German surname, since her great-grandfather was a German immigrant who married a Japanese woman. Sachiko is not aware of her German ancestry.
* ChildProdigy: She composed her first piece when she was seven, which was released to the public, kicking off her career.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* FollowInMyFootsteps: Has been classically trained since birth, taking after her relatively well-known composer father.
* HeroicBSOD: After a wrongful execution in chapter 1, Sachiko keeps her smile plastered on her face and goes back to her room without a word. She's over it by the beginning of Chapter 2, however.
* InsistentTerminology: Sachiko insists on being called by her surname, "Mai", instead of "Sachiko". It has not yet been revealed why.
* LastNameBasis: Addresses all of her classmates like this.
* MeaningfulName: Her first name, "Sachiko", means "child of happiness", and Sachiko has been a prodigy at her Super High-School Level talent of classical composing ever since she was a child, and her father was also a relatively well-known composer, so she is the child of someone who was happy and successful.
* NiceGirl: Sachiko's player describes her as super formal and polite.
* ThePianoPlayer: Sachiko's talent is in composing, but she's also a talented pianist and "occassionally plays live as support for other musicians."
%%* ProperTightsWithASkirt: As seen in her full sprite.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives the class one after chapter 1's trial results in a mistrial, as the class caused an innocent person to die because they were focusing on little things and not trying hard enough to find the truth.
* ShoutOut:
** According to Sachiko's player, "if you want an idea of what her music sounds like, think Music/YukiKajiura."
** Fairytale also shares a name with a song by Kalafina, one of Yuki Kajiura's bands.
%%* StepfordSmiler
%%* SuperiorSuccessor
* TookALevelInBadass: During chapter 1's trial, Sachiko's own player noted that Sachiko was much more competent than her player had actually intended her to be.

!!Shinobu Miyake
!!!SHSL Choreographer
[[quoteright:143:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_choreographer_shinobu_miyake_3864.png]]

Dancing isn’t just a hobby. It’s a passion that lets the dancer put all their feelings, mind, and body into it. The effort helps create the perfect sequences of movements that capture the audiences’ attention and surely be the talk of the town. And that’s just what Shinobu wants to create and showcase. After years of training and experiments from a young age and on, she was able to compose a variety of different choreographies. The majority of them becoming hits in their first week. Although she didn’t just stop at working with theaters. She is also available for classes within her aunt’s studio. Although her classes are mostly her shooting choreography videos using hit songs from around the world. She hopes she can share her passion with everyone that watches and inspire them to take up dancing as well.

Shinobu survives Astral Blue.
----
* ClassyCravat: In her initial sprite; in her most recent sprite this has been replaced with a scarf, and according to Shinobu's player, Shinobu has always been wearing this scarf.
%%* DancingIsSeriousBusiness: Choreography is her SHSL talent.
* RedHerring: The first murder victim, Susumu, is Shinobu's roommate, yet somehow Shinobu didn't hear the murder occurring, which briefly makes the class suspect Shinobu. However, this is cleared up when it's revealed that the murder actually took place in the living room, and the corpse was dragged over to Shinobu and Susumu's door afterwards.
* TechnicolorEyes: Has purple eyes.
%%* TrueBlueFemininity: She wears a predominantly blue outfit.

!!Shirogane "Rhythm" Katsumi
!!!SHSL Geologist
[[quoteright:196:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meh__7310.png]]
With his acceptance to Hope’s Peak being somewhat ground shaking, he has excelled in geology, evident in the medals he’s won within the International Science Olympiads. His knowledge of geology spreads from the formation of the three main rock types, to the theory of plate tectonics, as well as being able to identify most minerals easily with less than three methods. He’s known to be very divergent of others whenever in public, often showing signs of being a bit erratic at times, but nothing else is known about this intrusive person’s personal life other than that.

When the class mistrials in chapter 5, Monobear chooses two random students to wrongfully execute, and Rhythm is one of the students chosen.
----
* AbusiveParents: Just before being wrongfully executed in chapter 5, Rhythm shouts that his death will almost (but not quite) be a relief, as this means he will never have to deal with his abusive alcoholic father again.
* TheAce: Has won medals within the International Science Olympiads.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Wrongfully executed in chapter 5 when the class mistrials. Rhythm finds himself on a rooftop with an earthquake shaking the building. A shadowy figure attacks him, and because the earthquake shaking the building keeps increasing in strength from minor to light to moderate, Rhythm cannot concentrate on the fight. The figure wins the fight and drops Rhythm off the roof. Rhythm manages to grab the roof's edge at the last minute, but the figure stomps on his hands, causing him to fall to his death.
%%* DishingOutDirt: His SHSL talent is Geologist, so he specializes in studying the earth.
* ExtraOreDinary: His SHSL talent at geology has granted him extraordinary knowledge of the three rock types, plate tectonics, etc.
* HatesBeingTouched: Shown in the multiple reactions to people touching him.
* ItAmusedMe: Upon the reveal of the chapter two culprit, he finds it to be amusing- at least, in his internal monologue.
* MeaningfulName: His surname "Shirogane" means either "silver paint" or "silver coin", and both definitions describe the geologist's silver-colored eyes. His given name "Katsumi" means "victorious beauty", and the geologist is both a handsome man as well as victorious enough to have reached Super High-School Levels of talent at being a Geologist.
* MiscarriageOfJustice: Wrongfully executed in chapter 5 when the class mistrials and Monobear chooses two random students to execute.
* OfficialCouple: With Exus Val, as of chapter 3. Unfortunately, this is cut short when Exus Val is murdered in chapter 4.
* PleaseDontLeaveMe: His reaction upon discovering Exus Val's body in chapter 4.
%%* ProneToTears
* ProperlyParanoid: Shirogane is a paranoid person, but his paranoia is justified in a game like ''this''.
%%* PungeonMaster: He loves puns.
* RealisticDictionIsUnrealistic: Shirogane speaks with a stutter, and this is portrayed literally in how his dialogue is written.
* StutterStop: He will sometimes stop stuttering at seemingly random points in time.
* TookALevelInBadass: In chapter 4, Rhythm is one of several students who notice the culprit pulling a crucial piece of evidence off his shoe, and Rhythm points out that it does not make sense for this particular person to have a ''pen'' (since he didn't contribute to the written lists introduced earlier) unless this person wrote the notes that lured the victim to be murdered.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Shirogane "Rhythm" Katsumi is afraid of heights; for example, when he leaves the trial room by elevator after chapter 3's trial, he holds onto Exus Val for dear life.

!!Susumu Saito
!!!SHSL TV Personality
[[quoteright:192:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shsl_tv_personality_susumu_saito_9209.png]]

Saito Susumu is known as a famous TV personality who stars in a variety of TV programs. From commercials to news channels, she’s guest-starred on it all. While she starred on a television program as a child, she’s now a jack-of-all-trades. Some might might describe her as being famous nowadays simply because she’s famous, and she’s very well aware of that.

Regardless, ever since her mother took her to a talent agency in Tokyo, she’s been on the rise. While there’s been multiple specials on Susumu’s hard work in her endeavors to become an international star (which have focused on her public speaking training and her perfecting her ability to interact with the audience via the television), there’s some question as to how much of it was her doing. But nevertheless, Susumu’s been dubbed the “Face of the Next Generation’s Television” due to her spunky personality and charm on-screen. Whether or not that’s how she truly acts is another question altogether.

Susumu Saito is the first murder victim of Astral Blue, killed by blunt force trauma in chapter 1.
----
* BunniesForCuteness: Susumu has a pink bunny wearing a bowtie on her shirt.
%%* DiesWideOpen
* FormerChildStar: A positive example, as she's gone from child star to famous TV personality.
* GenkiGirl: How she acts on-screen in her role as a TV personality. She had a rather brusque reaction to Eri upon meeting him in the prologue, though, but covered this up with her genki girl personality.
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* MeaningfulName: Her first name, "Susumu", means "progress", and it was the technological progress that created TV that gave Susumu the medium by which she performs as a SHSL TV Personality.
%%* PinkMeansFeminine: Susumu wears predominantly pink clothing.

[[folder:The Mastermind]]
!!The Mastermind (Sachiko Mai)
----
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Sachiko is placed on a large stage, facing an orchestra of Monobears. One Monobear holds puppet strings that are used to control her in 'conducting' the orchestra, until a fire that was burning in the audience burns her strings. Eventually the fire reaches the low stage lights above her, causing them to fall with the last one crushing Sachiko.
