[[caption-width-right:350:From left to right: Starflight, Sunny, Clay, Glory, and Tsunami]]

* TheChosenMany: The prophecy calls for one dragonet from each type. Glory is the exception, having been substituted in when the [=SkyWing=] egg was lost.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: Invoked by [[spoiler:the prophecy's manufacturers]], and later the dragonets themselves (although the setting overall subverts this trope). Many of the queens' soldiers balk at hurting children, perhaps ''because'' of their own bitterness and self-doubt.
* CulturalRebel: Their unusual upbringing gave them many beliefs- such as egalitarianism and a democratic way of resolving disputes- that normal dragons can barely comprehend. Naturally, these beliefs are vital to saving the world.
* DelightfulDragon: All of them, definitely. [[AllLovingHero Especially Clay and Sunny]], but even [[{{Tsundere}} Tsunami and Glory]] [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold aren't THAT bad]].
* FamilyOfChoice: They've never met their birth families as of the start of the series, but they see each other as family.
* FireForgedFriends: They grew up with no-one else around but their abusive "caretakers", so they basically ''had'' to be good to each other. The alternative was utter loneliness.
* HopeBringer: Many dragons across the world are given hope by the prophecy.
* KidHero: They're all six years old, which is teenaged for a dragon.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: In the second series, they found the Jade Mountain Academy, a school dedicated to teaching dragons of '''all''' races and classes to work together. There are a few speed bumps, especially since the student body involves more than one member of royalty, but eventually the Academy becomes a success that inspires future generations (and according to ''Darkness of Dragons'', there's a waiting list to enroll).
* RebelliousRebel: They rebel against both the Talons of Peace and the warring tribes.
* VitriolicBestBuds: They may fight from time to time (okay, all the time), but they always have each other's backs. As opposed to their replacement dragonets, who always fight and don't care if they get injured.

[[folder:Clay]]
!!Clay - [=MudWing=]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/claytemplate_3.png]]
->"Maybe we're ''[the Dragonets]'' supposed to end this war peacefully, without all this killing."

The oldest of the Dragonets and their resident strong-man/moral center.

Narrates ''The Dragonet Prophecy''.
----
* ActualPacifist: Clay hates fighting and wants to resolve the war peacefully... [[ReluctantWarrior but that's not always an option]].
* AllLovingHero: He is sympathetic and protective to all dragons. This tends to annoy Peril.
* AngelDevilShipping: InUniverse with Peril. Dragons like Sunny wonder how someone like [[AxCrazy Peril]] could ever deserve [[AllLovingHero Clay.]]
* AudienceSurrogate: He has a poor memory for scrolls and details, meaning that he's always hearing information about the Wings of Fire world for the first time that he remembers clearly. Tui [[WordOfGod notes]] that this makes him a perfect choice for the POV of the first book in the series.
* BigBrotherInstinct: It turns out the whole reason [[spoiler:he tried to smash the others' eggs after hatching]] was this, since [[spoiler: the first duty of a bigwings is to help his siblings out of their shells]].
* BigDamnHeroes: Appears just in time to save Glory and Kinkajou from the [[spoiler: [=NightWings=]]] in ''The Hidden Kingdom''.
* BigEater: Clay is constantly hungry and thinking about food. He eats multiple cows while most dragons eat less and Sunny only eats about a lizard a week.
* TheBigGuy: Clay is the biggest of the Dragonets.
* BookDumb: Clay has a terrible memory and often doesn't remember things that he learned from lessons or from scrolls.
* ChasteHero: He doesn't have any interest in or [[ObliviousToLove exactly understand]] romantic relationships, though it is implied he likes Peril back.
* ChickMagnet: Moon's thoughts in ''Moon Rising'' shows that a lot of the dragonets at Jade Mountain Academy have crushes on him in a typical teenage girl fashion, with one of them thinking about his "heroic limp".
* ClassicalAntiHero: Thought of by himself and his guardians as a useless dragonet of destiny due to not being very vicious, determined or intelligent. A lot of his narrative in the first book consists of him remarking on how he's not fit for his "Big Heroic Destiny".
* CoolTeacher: During the bomb attack in ''Moon Rising'', he runs into the burning classroom to save injured students. Even before that, an unnamed character recognizes him as one of the Dragonets of Destiny and squees over his "heroic limp".
* TheChosenZero: Thinks of himself as this.
* DefusingTheTykebomb: Tries to get Peril away from Scarlet, and out of the Dragonets of Destiny is the only one who fully believes she can be a good dragon, even more so than Sunny.
* DreamWalker: Uses the dreamvisitor along with Sunny to [[spoiler: stop Burn's army from invading the Ice kingdom.]]
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: The graphic novel version of the first book has Clay having a nightmare of what Scarlet is going to do to the other four Dragonets and Kestrel. Part of the dream shows Sunny [[{{Birdcaged}} in a round cage]], when Tsunami, Glory & him reunite with her near the end of the book, guess what Scarlet has done to her.
* EnfanteTerrible: He tried to kill the other unhatched dragonets when he had just hatched, though he shows no sign of being evil as an older dragonet. [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope That's because he wasn't trying to kill them in the first place]], but to help them out of their shells.]]
* EveryScarHasAStory: In the fifth book, Clay takes a [[spoiler:poisonous snakebite]] to protect Starflight. He survives because Peril burns the venom out, but that in itself marks his leg. He's never quite as fast as he was before.
* {{Flanderization}}: Clay has always been a BigEater, but after the first book, he's constantly hungry and thinking about food to the point where he has dreams about it.
* {{Foil}}: To Ochre. They's both [[BigEater Big Eaters]] who are part of their respective sets of Dragonets of Destiny, but Clay is a kind and loyal dragonet whereas Ochre is greedy and unfriendly.
* GentleGiant: He's an unusually large dragon for his age, and also one of the kindest in the series.
* HeroicFireRescue: Rushes into the burning [[spoiler:history cave]] after [[spoiler: the dragonflame cactus bomb goes off]]. He isn't hurt much [[spoiler:because he's immune to fire.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: At the end of the fifth book, [[spoiler: He pushes Starflight, Sunny and Fatespeaker away from a dragonbite viper and gets bitten himself. He survives thanks to Peril burning out the venom, though.]]
* TheHeart: As Sunny mentions, he helps to hold the dragonets together and avoids them becoming like [[spoiler: the alternates]].
* IdiotHero: Clay's not the smartest of dragons.
* ImagineSpot: In the graphic novel, he's asked by his birth siblings if he'd like to join them. On the positive side, he could have fun with them, protect them from danger, teach them everything he knows, and just be a big brother to them overall. On the negative side, he'd have to leave his friends forever, he'd get scolded for not knowing how to lead a group of [=MudWing=]s, go into war with his siblings, and watching them die.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Has a tendency for this. Sometimes Tsunami and Glory have to cover for him when he's around Peril, and one time it even leads to [[spoiler: Glory pretending to leave the group, teaming up with Tsunami to pull this trick]].
* ItsAllMyFault: In ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', he decides to set up a smoke signal in order to get back to the mountain he escaped from to save his friends. Instead, Dune (one of their guardians) gets killed by Scarlet and her [=SkyWings=], and Clay and his friends are captured. All this time as it happens, Clay blames himself for setting up the smoke signal in the first place.
* MartyrWithoutACause: He ''always'' chooses to [[TakingTheBullet take a hit for another dragon]] or otherwise protect them with his life, even if he isn't the best-equipped to handle the deadly situation - like when he nearly dies fighting Fjord, who Tsunami would have been able to handle much more easily.
* MercyKill: He kills a sloth for this reason after seeing is slowly dying from a maggot-infested wound.
* MoralityChain: Gets upgrades from MoralityPet to this for Peril after her HeelFaceTurn. She notes that she would just burn down the world if he ever died, leading to her befriending Turtle so Clay can be more expendable.
* MoralityPet: To Peril, who is trying to redeem herself for his sake.
* MoreHeroThanThou: Argues with Tsunami about who should fight in the arena first. He "wins" because [=MudWings=] and [=Skywings=] are allies, so fighting them is rare.
* MotorMouth: He talks a lot when he is anxious.
* NegateYourOwnSacrifice: His [[spoiler: virtual immunity to fire and heat]] means he is constantly taking every potentially deadly attack of that sort for the other dragonets but being completely fine afterward, like [[spoiler: shielding Starflight from an erupting volcano, and protecting the [[=SeaWings=]] from a dragonflame cactus bombs]]. A borderline example when he [[spoiler: is bitten by a dragonbite viper while protecting Starflight, Sunny, and Fatespeaker]]; while [[spoiler: dragonbite venom]] is just as deadly to him as to anyone else, no other dragon would have been able to survive [[spoiler:the methods Peril used to [[HealItWithFire heal him.]]]]
* NiceGuy: He is a kind and jovial dragon to those who are friendly. He doesn't even get angry at Tsunami and Glory for long (he does get a little miffed, though) in spite of them tricking him in the first book.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His plan to use a fire signal so he can find his way back to the cave in ''The Dragonet Prophecy'' leads to Dune's death and the dragonets and Kestrel being imprisoned by Queen Scarlet.
* NightmareSequence: He gets one about Sunny being trapped in a cage, Starflight being mauled by a big skeleton dragon, Glory being drugged, and Tsunami and Kestrel being killed. This actually happens in the graphic novel.
* NoOneShouldSurviveThat: Several fans have noted that [[spoiler: based on the amount of time it took the dragon bite viper to kill Burn, he should have been dead by the time Peril arrived to burn out the venom from his leg, or at least have the venom spread so much that Peril couldn't help him.]]
* NoSell: Becomes immune [[spoiler: to fire after bathing himself in mud for the first time]].
* NotEvilJustMisunderstood: Dragons tend to assume that he's a monster because of what he did when he was just born [[spoiler: but even then, he was trying to help the dragonets hatch.]]
* ObliviousToLove: He has no idea that Peril is [[{{Yandere}} madly in love with him]]. He gets called out on it by Tsunami and several other dragons who tease him over his obliviousness.
* ObsessedWithFood: He even ''dreams'' about food!
* PsychicStatic: He tries it when confronted by Morrowseer.
--> THINK ABOUT COWS THINK ABOUT COWS THINK ABOUT COWS
* RousingSpeech: Gives one to the other dragonets about finding Starflight, only to have Morrowseer drop him off immediately afterwards.
* SeparatedAtBirth: He has six siblings from the same clutch of eggs as him that he gets to meet for the first time at the end of ''The Dragonet Prophecy''.
* SongOfCourage: His singing the "Dragonets are coming" song to the dragons imprisoned in the Sky Kingdom leads to them all singing, giving them hope even though they are about to be killed.
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: He tried to smash the others' eggs after hatching, leading Kestrel to think he has suppressed bloodlust. [[spoiler: Subverted, as while everyone thinks he has one, it turns out it's just BigBrotherInstinct.]]
* TalentedPrincessRegularGuy: The regular guy to Tsunami's talented princess. He's always narrating about how much more of a competent and perfect hero Tsunami is than him.
* TeachHimAnger: Kestrel tries to do this to him in their training fights, trying to awaken the monster she believes is inside of him based on [[EnfanteTerrible how he acted when he was first hatched]], even though he's a GentleGiant in the present. [[spoiler: It doesn't work because he never had hidden deadly instincts in the first place.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: His defining characteristic. He'll die for his friends and never even consider betraying them, and the guardians note that, once Tsunami is chained, he's the only one who might try to stop them from killing Glory - he may not be the smartest dragon, but he's ''ridiculously'' loyal.
* UnskilledButStrong: He is large, strong and theoretically a good fighter, but he isn't particularly good at the skill part of it, especially due to being an ActualPacifist.
* YouShallNotPass: Does this to [[spoiler: Morrowseer]] alongside Tsunami, Starflight and Sunny.

[[folder:Tsunami]]
!!Tsunami - [=SeaWing=]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tsunamitemplate.png]]
->"EXCUSE ME. I CAN BE VERY DIPLOMATIC WHEN I WANT TO BE."

A tomboyish dragonet who acts as the group's leader/spokesperson.

Narrates ''The Lost Heir''.
----
* AngerBornOfWorry: Her reaction to Glory [[spoiler: [[ForgivenessRequiresDeath letting herself be killed by Kestrel]]]] is to shout at her, though the other dragonets realize that she just doesn't want her dead.
** She also yells at Sunny about how worried she's been about Sunny disappearing suddenly to go pursue Fierceteeth, Strongwings, and Preyhunter.
* AssassinOutclassin: She faces at least three assassination attempts, fighting off two assassins [[spoiler: despite one being an armored adult and another being a LivingStatue that cannot be killed by normal means]], and managing to fly away from the other despite being hit in the wing with his DeadlyDisc.
* BerserkButton: Don't mention prophecies in front of her. Or threaten to harm [[BigBrotherInstinct her sisters.]]
** If she's come to care for you, don't throw yourself in harm's way; [[AngerBornOfWorry it infuriates her.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: Arrives just in time to save the other dragonets from [[spoiler:drowning in their prison.]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: She is very determined to protect her younger siblings.
* BlindedByTheLight: Uses her bioluminescence this way, to great effect. Nobody expects it because it's not a tactic used by most [=SeaWings=].
* BookDumb: She isn't a fan of scrolls except for exciting ones involving strong women, but when it comes to thinking quickly during a fight or even a less physical danger, she easily outwits her opponents.
* CainAndAbel: With [[spoiler: her sister Orca. She died before Tsunami was born, but she has to fight the LivingStatue that she created.]]
* ChildMarriageVeto: She is not happy about Coral's attempt to marry her to Whirlpool.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: She resents Webs for kidnapping her, though it is pointed out to her that she would be dead if he hadn't [[spoiler:just like almost all of Coral's other daughters.]]
* CrimeOfSelfDefense: The other dragonets feel this way about her nearly killing a [=SkyWing=] guard in ''The Lost Heir'' and to a lesser extent killing Gill. She herself is annoyed with this and sees her actions as DesignatedEvil, noting that Glory also kills dragons in self-defense and isn't criticized for it, though she is internally always questioning herself about whether her actions were right [[spoiler: especially when she finds out that Gill was her ''father'']].
* DatingWhatDaddyHates: A gender-flipped example - her relationship with Riptide is not at all approved of by her mother, considering, besides [[spoiler: not being a noble that she thinks is fit to marry royalty]], Riptide's father is [[spoiler: the dragon who stole her egg, and she's [[SinsOfOurFathers never forgiven either of them]].]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Tsunami is fond of employing biting sarcasm, which irks the other Dragonets on occasion.
* DeathWail: Does this after [[spoiler: Scarlet presents Glory's fake severed head to the dragonets.]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: Says "I will protect" in aquatic to [[spoiler: Coral's only surviving egg]].
* DistinguishingMark: Her unusual pattern of bioluminescent scales allows Shark to identify her as [[spoiler: a member of the [=SeaWing=] royal family]].
* DrillSergeantNasty: In ''The Dark Secret'' her role as general of the [=RainWings=] involves training them for battle with [[spoiler: the [=NightWings=]]]. Since most of them just prefer to nap, she ends up becoming this.
* FightingTheLancer: She gets into fights with Glory all the time, to the point where Starlight has learned tricks on talking diplomatically from how Sunny deals with them. Onscreen, they fight about things like how or whether to save Glory when Kestrel decides to kill her and whether Tsunami was justified in attacking the [=SkyWing=] guard who ''might'' have been about to kill them. When they fight after Tsunami wakes up from being tranquilized by [=RainWings=], it's so intriguing to the [=RainWing=] speculators that they look like [=SkyWings=] watching a gladiator match.
* FriendlyScheming: With Glory, when they try to teach Clay a lesson about being InnocentlyInsensitive.
* FriendshipMoment: Gets several throughout the series. With Starflight in ''The Dragonet Prophecy'' when she hugs him when they're supposed to kill each other in the arena, just after she's killed Gill and Starflight is terrified, with Starflight again in ''The Lost Heir'' when they admit they admire each other for their positive traits despite how annoying each one can be to the other, with Glory in ''The Hidden Kingdom'' when Tsunami is injured and Glory realizes that Tsunami really has been trying to change, and then with Sunny in ''The Brightest Night'' when Tsunami hugs her and Sunny realizes that despite how condescending she can be, she really does care for her.
* HotBlooded: She has a very strong and determined personality and tends to fight before asking questions, and [[ScrewDestiny defy any destiny that]] adult dragons want from her. She can also be [[LargeHam VERY]] [[LoudOfWar LOUD!!]]
* ImStandingRightHere: In the first book, Queen Scarlet and Burn talk about how to kill the prophecy dragonets in front of said dragonets. Tsunami lampshades this by angrily asking if they can go hatch their plans somewhere else.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As much of her list of entries indicates, she's [[{{Tsundere}} rather rough around the edges]], being [[BloodKnight brash]], [[HotBlooded hot]]-[[HairTriggerTemper headed]], and [[LargeHam loud]]. However, she genuinely [[TrueCompanions cares about her fellow dragonets]], and [[UndyingLoyalty and will fight hard and bloody for them]].
* TheLeader: She is the de facto leader of the group.
* LargeHam: When she's not snarking, she's yelling.
* LostOrphanedRoyalty: Like all of the other dragons, she doesn't know her parents, though she dreams of being the lost sole heir of the [=SeaWings=]. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] because it turns out that [[spoiler: she really is a princess, but the book that describes the [=SeaWings=] as having no other heirs is outdated and she has a younger sister. Later, a third is even born.]]
* LoudOfWar: She sings "[[TheChosenOne The Dragonets]] are coming" loudly and off-key to annoy the guardians when she's angry at them.
* MoreHeroThanThou: Argues with Clay over who should fight in Scarlet's arena. She "loses" because Clay points out that [=MudWings=] and [=SkyWings=] are allies so a fight involving a [=MudWing=] would be more unusual.
* MundaneUtility: Uses her bioluminescence for navigation.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Gets criticized by the other dragonets a lot for reacting to most situations by fighting and even killing.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Briefly when she finds out that [[spoiler:the [=SeaWing=] she was forced to kill in the [=SkyWing=] arena, Gill, was ''her father'']].
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels: Her unintentional use of Aquatic.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: In ''The Dark Secret'', she trains the [=RainWing=] army and defeats the [=NightWings=] sent to capture her completely offscreen.
* {{Patricide}}: She killed her father [[spoiler: Gill, without realizing his true identity.]]
%%* PrincessInRags: Tsunami constantly fantasizes she is the legendary stolen princess of the [=SeaWings=]. [[spoiler: It's revealed that she is.]]
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: Tsunami constantly fantasizes she is the legendary stolen princess of the [=SeaWings=]. [[spoiler: It's revealed that she is.]]
* RebelliousPrincess: She rebels against Coral and much of the [=SeaWing=] royal court, from having to marry Whirlpool to having to side with Blister in the war to having to deal with the council.
* RedOniBlueOni: The red oni to Glory and Starflight's blue oni.
* RoarBeforeBeating: She tends to be very loud when attacking or chasing after dragons, particularly in ''Escaping Peril'' [[spoiler: when she thinks Glory is dead.]]
* ScrewDestiny: More than any of the other dragonets, she doesn't want her actions dictated by a prophecy, and leads them in defying the guardians.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Her status as the dragonets' headstrong leader ruins Morrowseer's plan to have Starflight as the leader and keep the dragonets obedient to him and the guardians. It leads to him [[spoiler: wanting her dead, though he initially thinks of her as one of the best dragonets for the prophecy]], until [[spoiler: he finds out that her fame among the [=SkyWings=] means trying to pass of Squid as her would be an even greater problem.]]
* TailSlap: Her main means of offense is to hit things with her powerful tail.
* TalentedPrincessRegularGuy: The talented princess to Clay's regular guy. Clay is always noting how much more competent Tsunami is than him at leading and fighting.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She loves the pearl necklaces that Coral gives her.
* TrainingThePeacefulVillagers: Is responsible for this with the [=RainWings=] offscreen.
* {{Tsundere}}: She spends most of her time shouting and [[DeadpanSnarker snarking at the other dragonets]], but she has a hidden kind side.
* UniquenessDecay: At the end of ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', we find out that she is [[spoiler: [[PrincessInRags the only surviving daughter of Queen Coral.]]]]. However, in ''The Lost Heir'', it is revealed that [[spoiler: she has a sister who was born after the book Starflight was citing was published]], and later [[spoiler: another sister, Auklet is born thanks to Tsunami defeating Orca's LivingStatue that was killing her sisters in the hatchery.]]
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Glory, as they frequently quarrel and snark at each other.
* WhatTheHellHero: The other dragonets do this to her when she nearly gets them caught by a [=SkyWing=] soldier by attacking him, though she thought that he had spotted them and was about to attack or yell for help.
* WorkingWithTheEx: In ''Escaping Peril'', where she teams up with [[spoiler: Riptide]] offscreen to capture Queen Scarlet.
* YouAndWhatArmy: Says this to Glory during the dragonets' reenactments of the start of the War of [=SandWing=] succession, when she is playing Burn and Glory is playing Blister. Glory responds that she will use an army of [=SeaWings=].
* YoungAndInCharge: Is general of the [=RainWing=] army at six years old and the head of Jade Mountain Academy six months later.
* YourAnswerToEverything: Whenever a dragonet complains, Tsunami tells them to "jump in the river". Clay mentions that whether it be boredom, dry scales, aching bones, or a brain loaded with history lessons, Tsunami will always tell them to jump in the river.
* YouShallNotPass: Does this to [[spoiler:Morrowseer]] alongside Clay, Starflight and Sunny.
* YoureCuteWhenYoureAngry: Narrates this about Sunny in her thoughts. Sunny knows she thinks this and hates it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Glory]]
!!Glory - [=RainWing=]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/glory.jpg]]
->"Wake me if anything exciting happens, but make sure it's actually exciting and not Sunny exciting"

A dry-witted and sarcastic dragonet who hates being patronized and underestimated.

Narrates ''The Hidden Kingdom''.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Dragons constantly treat her with little respect and see her as lazy because she's a [=RainWing=].
* ApparentlyPowerlessPuppetmaster: After the dragonets escape from the [=SkyWing=] prison, she reveals that [[spoiler: she was only pretending to be asleep the whole time so she could plot a way to free them while looking innocuous]]. However, Book 3 reveals that she was affected by her [[spoiler: sun time]] more than she admitted then.
* AssassinOutclassin: Pins down Deathbringer using his own weapon while lecturing him on how he aimed for the wrong throat artery when trying to kill Blaze. Earlier, she manages to evade Kestrel just by her camouflage. Both times without [[spoiler: her venom.]]
* AwesomeMomentOfCrowning: All hail Queen Glory of the [=RainWings=]!
* BadassBookworm: She is an intelligent dragon who has a great memory for the scrolls she reads comparable to Starflight's, and after ''The Dragonet Prophecy'' her [[spoiler: venom]] makes her very threatening in fights as well.
* BerserkButton: Never call her lazy.
* BigGood: Of the second series, thanks to being [[spoiler: queen of the [=RainWings=] and [=NightWings=].]]
* BoomerangBigot: When she finds out that [[StopBeingStereotypical [=RainWings=] act more like the rumors of them than she'd initially hoped]], she begins to despise the rest of her people. Her friends have to point out to her that the pacifism and communal nature of the [=RainWings=] are actually pretty good and a lot of dragons could stand to learn from them. Some of them also have to point out that by denying her own [=RainWing=] nature, she's doing herself harm, such as by denying herself valuable "sun time".
* BoundAndGagged: In ''The Hidden Kingdom'', courtesy of [[spoiler: the [=NightWings=]]]. This leads to [[MotorMouth Kinkajou]] talking to her for a very long time...
%%* BreathWeapon: While she can't breathe fire, she can shoot jets of corrosive venom from her fangs.
* BrokenBird: Her sarcasm and cynicism is largely a result of [[TheUnfavorite the way she was treated by the guardians as a dragonet]].
* CoughSnarkCough: Delivers a variant in book 2, when she tries to hide a snorting noise with fake coughing.
* CrushBlush: To Deathbringer, due to [=RainWings=] changing scale colors with emotion.
* DeadpanSnarker: Talks almost entirely in biting sarcasm.
* TheDogBitesBack: After years of being abused by the guardians, objectified by Scarlet, and about to watch her only friends die, [[spoiler: she turns against Scarlet and attacks her with her venom.]]
* FamedInStory: The [=NightWings=] have heard that there is ''one'' [=RainWing=] who fights back. This is a terrifying subject for them, not only because of [=RainWings=]' natural strength but because they think it means there's a dragon out there so savage that even [=RainWing=] ancestry[[note]]which ''everyone knows'' makes you pathetic[[/note]] could not suppress her bloodlust. [[MoralMyopia Of course]], the concept that "the dangerous one" might not want to fight and just be driven to it by the [=NightWings=]'s atrocities, never occurs to them.
* FriendlyScheming: With Tsunami, when they try to teach Clay a lesson about being InnocentlyInsensitive.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible sibling to Jambu's foolish sibling.
* ForgivenessRequiresDeath: After Clay tells her that [[spoiler: Kestrel is going to kill her on Morrowseer's orders]], she refuses to do anything about it, saying that she is not part of the prophecy either and it is her fight, despite knowing that she will die. Tsunami is not happy about this.
* FromZeroToHero: She goes from the neglected replacement dragonet who everyone thinks will amount to nothing to [[spoiler:the respected and feared queen of two tribes.]]
* TheGoodQueen: Her first act as queen was to fight on the front lines, personally rescuing her imprisoned people. Her second was to save a tribe of "entitled little worms", who she would have been quite justified in killing, just because she valued life that much. Telepathic characters note that nearly all of Glory's subjects are happy with her rule, and that it inspired nearly all [=NightWings=] to be less racist.
* HatesBeingTouched: And she wonders if this is a natural [=RainWing=] trait, though it turns out it is just her.
* IAmNotLeftHanded: She only uses [[spoiler: her venom]] in battle as a last resort, so she can keep it secret and keep the advantage of surprise.
* IneffectualLoner: [[PlayingWithATrope Played with]]. She has a tendency to be a loner and her CharacterDevelopment involves seeing how much more beneficial ThePowerOfFriendship is, but she is recognizes this tendency could lead to harm, tries to curb it, and is frustrated at herself when she fails.
* IAmWhatIAm: By The end of ''The Hidden Kingdom'', she is proud of her [[=RainWing=]] tribe and her identity [[spoiler:and, as queen, is determined to do everything to protect them.]]
* InternalizedCategorism: She can get addicted to sun time just like other [=RainWings=], and even has a sloth who follows her around. All of this makes her think for a while that she might really be lazy, and it's in her [=RainWing=] nature to do so, so she should just give up trying.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[DefrostingIceQueen She's rather cold and distant at first, but can warm up to someone with time]]. [[UndyingLoyalty She's also ultimately loyal to the other dragonets]].
* KillAndReplace: She disguises herself as a dragon she killed, [[spoiler: Fjord]], though she only chose to replicate that particular dragon because he was the only [[spoiler: [=IceWing=]]] that she had ever seen, and she needed to be disguised as [[spoiler: an [=IceWing=]]].
* KnightInSourArmor: She's the most cynical of the dragonets but will still protect them and her tribe at any cost.
* TheLancer: Is the foil to Tsunami, and the one who most frequently calls her out.
* LastSecondWordSwap: When she is talking to Deathbringer disguised as an [=IceWing=], she almost points out that she's the only one with venom, before realizing that she's suppose to be an [=IceWing=] and saying she's the only one with frostbreath instead.
* LazyDragon: {{Defied}}. The Dragonets of Destiny's caregivers accuse Glory of being lazy because she likes to sleep in the afternoon, but it turns out that "suntime" is an important part of a [=RainWing's=] daily routine.
* MoralityPet: Becomes this to Deathbringer.
* OurHeroIsDead: In ''Escaping Peril'', [[spoiler: Scarlet gives the dragonets at Jade Mountain Academy her severed head]]. But it turns out to be [[spoiler: a [=MudWing=] changed to look like Glory by Chameleon.]]
* PhotographicMemory: She remembers everything she reads in scrolls, which allows her to quickly recognize the eels in Coral's prison and [[spoiler: the dream visitor that Queen Scarlet is using.]]
* PreMortemOneLiner: Right before she kills [[spoiler: Crocodile.]] She has just been talking to the dragonets about [[spoiler: what might have happened to Queen Scarlet.]]
-->'''Glory:''' Lucky you. You're about to find out. ''([[spoiler:spits venom [[EyeScream in her eyes]]]])''
%%* PrincessInRags: It's revealed that she's [[spoiler: descended from the original line of [=RainWing=] queens.]]
* PsychicStatic: She's very difficult to mind-read, since she suppresses her thoughts well.
* AProtagonistShallLeadThem: Becomes the [[spoiler:queen of the [=RainWings=]]] in order to [[spoiler: save her tribe from being killed by the [=NightWings=]]].
* ReallyRoyaltyReveal: It's revealed that she's [[spoiler:descended from the original line of [=RainWing=] queens.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Tsunami's red oni.
* ReplacementGoldfish: For the [=SkyWing=] egg that got killed by Burn.
* RousingSpeech: Gives one to her tribe about [[spoiler: freeing the imprisoned [=RainWings=]]]. It's quickly followed with her trying to figure out what exactly a dragon is supposed to do after she's ''done'' with her epic speech.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: The reason why she becomes [[spoiler: Queen of the [=RainWings=] in the first place is because they don't do anything even when they're threatened.]]
* ShesNotMyGirlfriend: She will not admit that she's in love with Deathbringer, and responds this way if anyone asks.
* SourOutsideSadInside: She uses her bitter, sarcastic personality to hide her sadness over how she has been treated as inferior her whole life.
* TheSnarkKnight: She is very sarcastic and critical of other dragons, but she's the same about herself and will do anything to protect her tribe despite her [[StopBeingStereotypical criticism of them.]]
* SneakyDeparture: Does this in ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', [[spoiler:though it turns out that it was a trick to show Clay how hurtful him being InnocentlyInsensitive could be.]]
* StopBeingStereotypical: She strongly dislikes it when any other Rainwings do things that in any way fit the stereotypes of her people. Then again, she's had the allegedly negative nature of those traits driven into her all her life, so it's not really surprising she'd rebel against them.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She loves her pet sloth Silver, though she doesn't want to admit it because it is [[StopBeingStereotypical too stereotypical for [=RainWings=].]]
* TookALevelInBadass: She is noted to be one of the weakest dragonets in battle, due to [=RainWings=] not being naturally suited for fighting. That all changes when [[spoiler: time in the sun leads her to being able to shoot venom.]]
* TheUnchosenOne / TheUnfavorite: Simply because the prophecy called for a [=SkyWing=] and not a [=RainWing=].
* UnscrupulousHero: Is cynical, willing to kill, and often unforgiving or vengeful, but she is still ultimately a hero who fights for peace with the other dragonets. She's less of an AntiHero than the average UnscrupulousHero, but she does have both the cynical outlook and pragmatic and often lethal strategy.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Tsunami, as they frequently quarrel and snark at each other.
* WhatWouldXDo: Sometimes thinks of what Tsunami would do in a situation.
* YoungAndInCharge: Becomes [[spoiler: queen of the [=RainWings=] and [=NightWings=]]] at six years old.

->"This is important and fascinating! Listen!"

The brains to Clay's brawn, he's a well-meaning but anxious dragonet.

Narrates ''The Dark Secret''.
----
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: Declares his love for [[spoiler: Sunny]] right before [[spoiler: going into battle with the rest of the [=NightWing=] tribe.]]
* ArbitrarySkepticism: Reacts to [[spoiler:Battlewinner coming out of the volcano]] by saying that it is scientifically impossible.
* BerserkButton: He doesn't like when you say [=NightWings=] are anything but the most awesome dragons in front of him [[spoiler: until he goes to the [=NightWing=] island himself.]]
* BigEgoHiddenDepths: He is initially introduced as the most arrogant of the dragonets, despite often being the ButtMonkey, but ''The Dark Secret'', where he is the protagonist, shows he's a lot more complicated than that and ultimately a heroic dragon whose arrogance is [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex only on the outside.]]
* BrokenPedestal: His admiration of [[spoiler:the [=NightWings=]]] takes a large hit in ''The Dark Secret''.
* ButtMonkey: Spends most of ''The Hidden Kingdom'' being mocked by Glory for his cowardice, crush on Sunny, and unwillingness to believe that [[spoiler:the [=NightWings=] could have done anything wrong]]. By the second chapter, there's a scene with him clumsily bumping into just about every tree in the rainforest. The next book, [[BigEgoHiddenDepths on the other hand...]]
* CastingAShadow: He can blend into shadows perfectly.
* CategoryTraitor: Most of the [=NightWings=] don't like him for not being a proper [=NightWing=], as Moonwatcher's mind reading reveals.
* CowardlyLion: Even Starflight [[HeroicSelfDeprecation himself]] underestimates his own courage and resourcefulness.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Like Clay, he's an inadequate fighter and always feels like he's messing up. However, he makes up for it with his intelligence and [[InsufferableGenius arrogance]], at least [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex on the surface.]]
* CrushBlush: To Sunny at the end of ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', when [[spoiler:the [=NightWings=] drop him off.]]
* CoolTeacher: In the Jade Mountain arc. He's the school librarian and noted down every student's reading preferences so he could put scrolls they'd like in their dorms. For example, the illiterate Kinkajou was given a scroll that shows her how to form letters.
* DreamWalker: He uses a dreamvisitor to warn the other dragonets when [[spoiler:Morrowseer]] wants to kidnap Tsunami to [[spoiler:replace Squid.]]
* DreamSpying: [[InvokedTrope Invoked]] when he uses a dream visitor to find out what is happening in the rainforest, and gets to see it by dream visiting [[spoiler:Kinkajou]], who is still half-conscious due to recovering from wounds.
* EyeScream: At the end of ''Dark Secret''. [[spoiler:He is blinded after getting hit by a fireball from an exploding volcano.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: In ''The Dark Secret'', he pushes Tsunami out of the way of [[spoiler:an erupting volcano]] and [[spoiler:survives, but [[EyeScream is permanently blinded]]]].
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: The other Dragonets see him as thinking of himself as being inherently superior due to being a Nightwing, despite him not having any powers yet. Internally, however, he berates himself for not being as brave or daring as his friends and thinks that he's a failure. He ''wants'' to believe that the [=NightWings=] are good and noble and awe-inspiring [[spoiler:but just like Clay and Glory he's let down by what they really are.]]
* InsufferableGenius: Can't stop talking about how fascinating the history and politics of Pyrrhia is, and how infinitely superior [=NightWings=] are. But the other dragonets still acknowledge him as the smartest dragon they've ever met or probably will meet.
* ItsForABook: He manages to avoid getting killed by the Alternates by hiding near the prisons and claiming it's for a school project. He gets away with it because it turns out Mastermind is always making dragonets do school projects like that.
* KeepingTheHandicap: [[spoiler:After he and Tamarin are blinded, Darkstalker offers to use his animus powers to cure their blindness, but they refuse, feeling that they don't want to make a habit of solving their problems the easy way out with magic.]]
* LargeHam: He admits that he talks like an epic scroll sometimes.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: His father, Mastermind, is also a science-oriented intellectual complete with a penchant for scrolls, inventions... and [[MadScientist gruesome experiments]]. He later states the latter was JustFollowingOrders in an effort to get clemency from [[spoiler:the severely pissed off [=RainWings=]]].
* LovableNerd: He is a sympathetic character who is terrified of not providing himself to the [=NightWings=] [[spoiler:or [[NotBloodSiblings Sunny]]]]. He truly cares about his friends and wants to use his considerable intelligence to be a hero, though it doesn't always pan out.
* MamasBabyPapasMaybe: No one is sure who his father (or Fierceteeth's) is for a long time, though Mastermind always insists he's his. When Morrowseer sees the similarities in [[TheSmartGuy how they act]], he concludes that Mastermind must be his father.
* TheMole: Becomes one for [[spoiler:Morrowseer, although he regrets this decision]].
* MotorMouth: Once he gets started on a topic it's tough to get him to stop.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His [[spoiler: betraying Blister]] leads to [[spoiler: Tsunami and Glory becoming targets for assassination.]] Later, in ''The Dark Secret'', he reveals part of Glory's plans to the other [=NightWings=], leading him to feel guilty and inadequate.
* NonActionGuy: He's the weakest fighter of the dragonets.
* NotBloodSiblings: Has a crush on one of the other Dragonets. [[spoiler: Sunny does not reciprocate it given they were raised together from birth as virtual siblings.]]
* OldWindbag: Acts like this, though he's a teenager in dragon years. Other dragons are typically very annoyed.
* ProfessionalButtKisser: Becomes this towards Blister in the second book, much to the others annoyance, until it's revealed that she killed Kestrel.
* RedHerringMole: At the end of ''The Hidden Kingdom'', [[spoiler:Starflight disappears]] when he was around [[spoiler:the portal to the Night kingdom]], right after [[spoiler:he was trying to convince Glory to not judge the [=NightWings=]]], and Glory and the readers assume the worst. It actually turns out that the [=NightWings=] kidnapped him to see whether he or Fatespeaker was more suitable to the prophecy.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue oni to Tsunami's red oni.
* RegretfulTraitor: [[spoiler:Morrowseer]] convinces him to be his [[TheMole mole]] among the dragonets, but he regrets this and [[spoiler:turns against Blister despite his orders to support her, telling everyone how she killed Kestrel.]]
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The savvy guy to Fatespeaker's energetic girl.
* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness: Frequently employs verbose language when pontificating.
* TheSoCalledCoward: The other dragonets and Morrowseer see him as very cowardly, but it doesn't stop him from [[spoiler: going personally to the [=NightWings=] to convince them to swear allegiance to Glory and thus be saved, while a volcano is about to erupt.]]
* TheSmartGuy: Starflight is the most scholastically inclined of the Dragonets, and is thus the most intelligent of them.
* WhatWouldXDo: Sometimes thinks of what Tsunami would do in a situation.
* YouDidntAsk: He never mentioned that dragonets born from blood-red eggs were immune to fire until the dragonets were imprisoned and about to die, even though he read it in a book and it would have been very useful. [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in the story.
* YouShallNotPass: Does this to [[spoiler:Morrowseer]] alongside Clay, Tsunami and Sunny.

!!Sunny - [=SandWing=]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sunnytemplate_8.png]]
->"I don't think everything is exciting. You guys just don't think enough things are exciting."

The cheerful and optimistic baby of the dragonets.

Narrates ''The Brightest Night''.
----
* AllLovingHero: She cares for and sees the best in all dragons, and as a result is very excited about changing the world according to the prophecy. Her narration in ''The Brightest Night'' shows that she tries to curb this tendency sometimes because she knows the other dragonets will criticize her.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Subverted. Sunny's certainty that she is a hero drives her to ''act like it'', caring for everybody no matter how awful they are, working hard in her training under the mountain, and pushing her teammates to think beyond their own happiness. Later in the series, [[spoiler:it drives her to let go of the [=SandWing=] crown, knowing that she doesn't need its power to be respected or have the effect she wants to have on the world]].
* TheAntiNihilist: By the end of ''The Brightest Night'', having decided that [[spoiler:even if she has no destined meaning to her life, she can create her own identity and meaning and end the war regardless.]]
* BefriendingTheEnemy: She will try to make friends with any dragon, no matter what side of the war they're on, like Camel and the [=SkyWing=] guards who are imprisoning her.
* BerserkButton: Don't think she's useless or dismiss her ideas just because she's small and optimistic. And especially don't [[spoiler: tell her the prophecy was fake.]]
* BigBrotherWorship: Clay is unquestionably her favorite sibling, as he comes the closest to sharing her mindset and is often willing to relay her suggestions to the others (who tend to ignore what Sunny says). She is ''deeply'' relieved [[spoiler:when he survives his snakebite]].
* {{Birdcaged}}: Scarlet does this to her when she captures the dragonets.
* BloodSplatteredInnocents: Gets splattered with [[spoiler:Blaze's]] blood when [[spoiler:Deathbringer]] attacks her. She is very disturbed by the whole incident.
* BreakTheBeliever: Her belief in the prophecy gets broken when [[spoiler:Morrowseer reveals that he made it up.]]
* BreakTheCutie: When Morrowseer reveals that [[spoiler:the prophecy was a lie]], Sunny takes the news the hardest.
* BrokenHero: She has had just a just as horrible childhood as the rest of the dragonets, as well as being a small/[[WeakButSkilled weak]]/somewhat deformed dragonet, as the guardians never cease to remind her. It doesn't stop her from being the most cheerful of the dragonets.
* CannotKeepASecret: The reason why the others choose to leave her out of their escape plan.
* CommonalityConnection: With Fatespeaker. They were both raised outside their tribe and find they tend to think about the world the same way.
* ConversationalTroping: She loves fiction's tendency to have [[BirthmarkOfDestiny odd-looking heroes]], because it makes her feel better about her own odd looks. She feels the same way about [[ChangelingFantasy fictional orphans]].
* ConvenientlyAnOrphan: She isn't upset about not knowing her parents because of this trope.
* DreamWalker: Uses a dreamvisitor along with Clay to [[spoiler:stop Burn's army from attacking the Ice Kingdom.]]
* EveryonesBabySister: The Dragonets of Destiny outright state this to Peril when they're talking about how they need to rescue her in ''The Dragonet Prophecy''.
%%* TheFace:
* TheFatalist: She believes that the dragons' actions are dictated by the prophecy. That's part of why she is so optimistic - since according to the prophecy, they are guaranteed to succeed and they can't die.
* GlorySeeker: Pun not intended. A big part of her heroics is to gain the love and respect lacking in her childhood. The fear- planted by Morrowseer- that she might look like a failure to dragons [[spoiler:who don't know the prophecy is fake]] effectively neutralizes her during book four's climax.
* GoodIsNotDumb: Most dragons assume she's dumb and incompetent due to being an optimist and idealist. As it turns out, she's not, and she doesn't like when dragons assume she is.
* GreenEyedEpiphany: Subverted. When she feels jealous of [[spoiler:Fatespeaker]] due to her crush on [[spoiler:Starflight]], she wonders if it means she might be in love with [[spoiler:Starflight]] after all, but she [[spoiler:ultimately decides that they're LikeBrotherAndSister. She just wanted his attention because he was a friend she hadn't seen in a long time.]]
* TheHeart: Her eternal optimism serves as the Dragonets' uniting force.
* HiddenBadass: Though she's not as much of a fighter as Tsunami and Glory, she is much more capable then other dragons realize and fights successfully several times.
* HybridAllAlong: [[spoiler:Sunny is assumed to be a deformed [=SandWing=] dragon at first; she's missing her kind's [[BewareMyStingerTail venomous tail barb]], and her scales are golden instead of pale yellow. It's only at the end of the first arc that she learns that her father was a [=NightWing=].]]
* ImmortalHero: Believes herself to be one thanks to the prophecy, and thinks the same of the other dragonets. [[spoiler:Indeed, they all survive the series, and Sunny manages to survive being nearly killed and stuffed by Burn twice, almost drowning in the [=SeaWing=] prison, and almost being bitten by a dragonbite viper.]]
* TheIngenue: Sunny's eternal optimism and naivete cause the other Dragonets to ignore or dismiss her, which greatly annoys her to the point that she [[spoiler:decides to set out to end the war herself - prophecy or no prophecy.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: She victim-blames Glory for not trying to impress their bigoted guardians, as if those guardians haven't shown themselves to be completely irrational, or any child should ''need'' to earn basic affection. The weird part is that she genuinely doesn't hate Glory. She just refuses to understand that Glory's upbringing has been drastically different to her own.
** She didn't think through how her disappearance might affect people ''other'' than her family, even though she did it during a very volatile political situation. Glory came very close to ''killing'' [=NightWing=] refugees because she thought they might have been responsible for it.
* InTheBlood: [[spoiler:Naturally for a [=NightWing=] hybrid, she has unshakable faith in destiny and a strange tendency to know ''exactly'' what is going to happen.]]
** Her distant ancestor- [[spoiler:Whiteout, another hybrid- was confirmed by WordOfGod to have latent prophetic abilities.]] [[invoked]]
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Turns down [[spoiler:Starflight's confession]] due to viewing him as a brother. She suggests he accept Fatespeaker's feelings instead.
* LiteralMinded: Thinks Kestrel's mention of cutting off the head of a problem means literally cutting of Tsunami's head. But given how ''The Brightest Night'' shows she knows it is practically impossible to cut off a dragon's head, it is possible she was joking but was mistaken as this.
* TheLivingDead: During a play the dragonets put on depicting the start of the [[EnemyCivilWar War of SandWing Succession]], she accidentally talks while playing the dead Queen Oasis.
* LoveFreak: The [=POV=]s of some of the other dragons, like Tsunami, Glory, and Peril, portray her as this. However, hew own perspective shows she is much more competent than they give her credit for and [[BerserkButton does not like]] when others see her as this.
* MeaningfulName: She has a very sunny disposition.
* MessianicArchetype: Sunny is a flawed character, but she ticks several boxes of the trope- most notably interceding with her [[spoiler:royal]] parent to save people who tried to kill her.
%%* MomentOfWeakness:
* MurderByInaction: Wonders if the dragonets should have left [[spoiler: the [=NightWings=]]] to die in the [[spoiler: volcano eruption]].
* NiceGirl: She's ''very'' compassionate, [[AllLovingHero wanting nothing more than to see the best in everyone]].
* NotNowKiddo: The other Dragonets ignore Sunny's opinions due to perceiving her as TheIngenue, which she takes offence to.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: She usually has Clay voice her more important suggestions, but near the end of her [=POV=] book she is so horrified by the cynicism her siblings are descending into that she screams her opinion.
-->"''We are not killing '''any''' of them!''"
* OfferedTheCrown: By [[spoiler: Smolder]], who tries to give her [[spoiler: the Eye of Onyx]]. She [[spoiler: gives it to Thorn instead.]]
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: The other dragonets never tell her secrets because of the one time she told the guardians about the dragonets' plans when they were so young that they couldn't even fly yet. In her notes for ''The Dragonet Prophecy'', Tui even points this out.
* PleaseWakeUp: Does this to Dune in ''The Dragonet Prophecy''.
* PluckyGirl: She is optimistic and never gives up on actively trying to fulfill the prophecy and stop the war, no matter what trials she has to go through [[spoiler:though it does affect her when she finds out that the prophecy isn't even real.]]
* PoliticallyActivePrincess: [[spoiler:Technically, although her most historically notable deed happened ''before'' her mother was crowned queen, and neither of them believe in monarchal trappings anyway.]]
* ReconcileTheBitterFoes: Her ultimate goal.
* SmarterThanYouLook: Dragons like Tsunami think she is not particularly smart thanks to her [[TheIngenue personality]]. However, she's actually an intelligent dragon.
* SneakyDeparture: In ''The Brightest Night'', after she [[spoiler: escapes Fierceteeth, Strongwings and Preyhunter]], she decides to use the opportunity of the chaos following the last book's finale to go out on her own [[spoiler:and chase them.]]
* TheSoCalledCoward: The other dragonets see her as cowardly, if not to the extent that Starflight is viewed as such. She calls Glory out for this at one point.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: She narrates at length about how the fact that "her parents obviously didn't want her" doesn't bother her at all. Of course, if this were true, she wouldn't phrase it that way.
* SuddenlyShouting: When the dragonets start ignoring her idea of a peace meeting in ''The Brightest Night'', she finally roars over their talking; "Stop! [[BigShutUp I SAID STOP]]!", and that gets them to listen to her for once.
* SympathyForTheDevil: Tends to feel this, like for Preyhunter and Addax, but she internally berates herself for it since it is exactly what her friends would criticize her for doing.
* TakeAThirdOption: She is given the choice between [[spoiler: letting Blister be queen or becoming queen herself]]. So she decides to [[spoiler: give the Eye of Onyx to Thorn.]]
* TechnicalPacifist: She relies on non-deadly fighting techniques or tricks when she has to fight, though she prefers a peaceful resolution to conflict, and [[spoiler:thinks of the idea of using [[TranquilizerDart tranquilizer darts]] in the battle between the [=RainWings=] and [=NightWings=].]]
* TerrorHero: One of her common fighting tactics involves taking advantage of dragons' PrimalFear of [[BewareMyStingerTail [=SandWing=] tails]]. She also leads [[spoiler: Fierceteeth, Strongwings and Preyhunter]] off of her trail when she [[spoiler: steals the Obsidian Mirror]] by giving them a message threatening to kill them, which works far better than she expected due to her methods resembling the Darkstalker's.
* TheUnchosenOne: Decides to become this after [[spoiler: she finds out the prophecy was false]], deciding that the dragonets can [[spoiler: end the war anyway]].
* UnreliableNarrator: Her bitterness over being marginalized by the other dragonets ''is'' founded in truth...but she tends to forget that they are her friends and they want to help the tribes as much as she does. When they agree to help her end the war, she is quite surprised.
* JumpedAtTheCall: At the beginning of ''The Brightest Night''. She escapes her kidnappers quickly, and she could go back to her friends to live a comfortable life in the rainforest. Instead she shadows the kidnappers to find out what they're planning and eliminate the threat in front of her ''now''.
* WeakButSkilled: Though her small size and lack of a poisonous tail gives her a disadvantage in fighting, she is very skilled at fighting techniques, which means she isn't as easy of a target as she looks.
* WideEyedIdealist: Sunny is an eternal optimist and willing to see the good in anyone and anything.
* WrongGenreSavvy: All of her actions are based on her false assumption that [[spoiler: PropheciesAreAlwaysRight]].
* YouRemindMeOfX: She reminds Darkstalker of Whiteout.
* YouShallNotPass: Does this to [[spoiler:Morrowseer]] alongside Clay, Tsunami and Starflight, but flies away from the scene when [[spoiler: Morrowseer tells the dragonets that the prophecy is made up.]]
