->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JunichiKanemaru (JP), Creator/JasonGriffith (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Creator/AlexandreGillet (FR), Creator/UmSanghyun (KOR), Pablo Ausensi (Seasons 1 & 2) & Hernán Bravo (Season 3) (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

A blue hedgehog who can run at [[SuperSpeed supersonic speeds]]. He, his friends, and Dr. Eggman are transported to Earth by a blast of Chaos Control. Sonic, Tails, Amy Rose, Cream and Cheese live in secret with Chris Thorndyke and his family, though their presence is eventually discovered. Sonic acts as a bit of an AloofAlly, often pulling BigDamnHeroes moments OncePerEpisode. Can transform into Super Sonic when he possesses the Chaos Emeralds.
------
* HundredPercentHeroismRating: Once the public find out about him, Sonic becomes a huge celebrity, loved and respected by all.
* TheAce: Leans more as this as the show progresses, especially due to his more one-note role and the majority of the cast's idolization of him.
* AcePilot: Proved to be this when he flew the X-Tornado. Also proved to be one when he flew a government helicopter in "That's What Friends Are For."
* AdaptationalBadass: While Sonic in the games is a bit of a powerhouse, he still has struggles. Here, he plays the role of an InvincibleHero who constantly plows through his enemies. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in Season 3 where he starts to face more struggles.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange:
** Sonic's usual cocky attitude he's well known for in the [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure Dreamcast]] [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 games]] is more noticeably downplayed in the anime (at least in Series 1). Subverted for the comics and Series 2 where he gains back that cocky attitude.
** Sonic is notably much more aloof and passive in this series. When he's not fighting Eggman, he usually spends his time sleeping wherever he can rather than hanging out with his friends or seeking out high stakes adventure.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Compared to the games or other Sonic media where Sonic loves hanging out with his friends, Sonic spends significantly less time with his friends. In some episodes, he even deliberately refuses to join his friends on their trips until Eggman gets involved.
* AdaptationalWimp: In this series, he usually requires a ring to defeat the MonsterOfTheWeek. He even needed one to defeat Shadow during their fight on the ARK, unlike Sonic's game counterpart.
* AllLovingHero: Much like his game incarnation, this incarnation of Sonic easily makes friends out of his former enemies and even forgives them too.
* AloofAlly: Downplayed case. Sonic is friendly and cheerful, but not very expressive and tends to prefer being by himself until a threat appears. He also ignores the authorities' requests for his aid in fighting Eggman, as he prefers doing things on his own terms. This is far less apparent in the comics, [[AdaptationPersonalityChange where he's more of a do-goody hero.]]
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: A lot of characters convey an animosity towards him because of his bravado, popularity, and tendency to outshine and defeat them. Eggman, Knuckles, Sam Speed, and Vector in particular have recurring jealous rivalries towards him (though Vector drops it after his first appearance).
* AntiVillain: His form, Dark Sonic, due to the fact that he's not evil, just more aggressive and pragmatic than Sonic. He also only occurs when Sonic's friends get hurt.
* BestFriend: Sonic is this to Tails and Chris.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's overall a pretty easy-going and sympathetic guy, but hurting his friends is what sets him off. Best seen when he becomes "Dark Super Sonic" in response to seeing Chris and Cosmo get hurt.
* BigBrotherMentor: Again, to Tails and Chris.
* BigDamnHeroes: Due to his independent and carefree nature, a large portion of the episodes have him doing his own thing until near the end, when he shows up to save the day.
** He even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades this in the comic.]]
---> '''Sonic''': Well, I think I've been away from Chris and the others long enough. They're bound to have gotten into ''trouble'' by now. It's time for me to make a ''supersonic return'' and ''save the day!''
* BlueIsHeroic: He’s the main hero of the show, and he’s mostly covered in blue quills.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: The character most likely to pull this off.
* BrilliantButLazy: Whenever he's not roaming the planet or being with his friends, he tends to laze around a lot, and has a few times beaten Eggman's robots at the last minute. This gets deconstructed in the Sonic Battle saga, in which people are inspired by him and start imitating his lazy and carefree lifestyle (minus the ''brilliant'' part) to their detriment.
* CharacterCatchphrase: In the Japanese version, he tends to exclaim "Oh shoot!" or "Oh Gosh!" and sometimes even "Damn!" whenever something goes wrong.
* CharacterExaggeration:
** The show takes Sonic's SuperDrowningSkills and turns them into full-blown hydrophobia, to the extent that landing in a simple ''puddle'' of water in "Cracking Knuckles" triggers a [[FreakOut panic attack]] until he realizes it's [[StopDrowningAndStandUp barely half a foot deep]].
** By contrast, while most takes of Sonic do tend to keep a steel face in bad situations (especially the Japanese versions), the anime Sonic verges on TheStoic, rarely showing outward sentiment and emotions and being incredibly complacent and beside himself. A large factor to said drowning RunningGag being exagerrated in the anime is likely because Sonic expressing ''any'' vulnerable emotions is so comically out of character.
* ChickMagnet: He's shown to have many fans, including {{fangirl}}s, as seen in "Little Chao Lost". Not to mention Amy is madly in love with him. In "Cruise Blues", an old man lampshades this after hearing about Amy’s crush on Sonic, saying that he probably has that effect on all the girls.
* CoolBigBro: To Tails, Cream, and the human kids in the cast, particularly Chris and Helen.
* DeadpanSnarker: More downplayed, but like in other continuities, he makes a lot of jokes at everyone, especially Knuckles.
* DemotedToExtra: Despite the show acknowledging he's the main protagonist, a lot more episodes are played from Chris or another hero's perspective, with Sonic acting more as something of a friendly AloofAlly who only steps up when the MonsterOfTheWeek appears. The comics play him more as the main focus, though he later leans as a HeroAntagonist due to Eggman's [[BreakoutCharacter expanded role]].
* {{Determinator}}: He will fight any and all threats in the galaxy, no matter how menacing or fierce they are.
* DissonantSerenity: He's carefree and cheerful, even in the toughest situations, knowing he'll figure things out no matter what. In fact, Dark Oak tried the BreakThemByTalking method, telling him that he'll always see problems wherever he goes. Not even that stopped Sonic from keeping cool, and having a smile on his face.
* DubNameChange: Averted. He's one of the few characters from his world that has no change of his name in the Latin American version.
* DubPersonalityChange: Downplayed, but the 4Kids dub occasionally changes his lines from being laid back and chill to a MascotWithAttitude. For example, when talking with Knuckles in Episode 5:
-->'''Japanese!Sonic''': Sorry to keep you waiting.
-->'''Japanese!Knuckles''': You're late, Sonic!
-->'''Japanese!Sonic''': Sorry, I was washing my face. Besides, it's such a nice day. What a nice scent. It makes me feel alive.
-->'''Japanese!Knuckles''': Sonic, why you...
-->'''Japanese!Sonic''': Don't get so angry. Be more cool, partner.
-->'''Japanese!Knuckles''': Don't you dare call me "partner"! Come, Sonic! I'll settle things with you once and for all!
-->'''Japanese!Sonic''': You really insist on fighting? I don't feel like it.
-->'''Japanese!Knuckles''': SHUT UP! I won't give you the Chaos Emerald. Give it back to me!
-->'''Japanese!Sonic''': Don't tell me you've been tricked again.

-->'''English!Sonic''': Hey there, Knuckles!
-->'''English!Knuckles''': You're late, slowpoke.
-->'''English!Sonic''': Yeah well, I stopped to enjoy the scenery. This planet is pretty cool. It's nice here. Yeah... you'd like this world too if you weren't such a party pooper.
-->'''English!Knuckles''': 'Nuff talk. Let's go.
-->'''English!Sonic''': Ah, relax, will ya? We have all afternoon to duke it out, buddy-boy.
-->'''English!Knuckles''': I'm not your buddy and don't forget it smart aleck. Now put 'em up! I didn't come here to sniff the flowers!
-->'''English!Sonic''': That's your loss. You don't know what you're missing. But if you'd rather get clobbered by me...
-->'''English!Knuckles''': SHUT UP! Give me the emerald you stole, or else...
-->'''English!Sonic''': Oh. Your brain's even slower than your feet.
* EasilyCondemned: Despite his fame as a hero, the public is fooled into thinking Sonic is evil in the Shadow saga, and ''again'' in the Egg Moon saga. Knuckles has also been tricked by Eggman into thinking Sonic is evil ''three times'', and Vector mistakenly assumes that Sonic kidnapped Cream in episode 39. In Knuckles and Vector’s case, they were distrusting towards Sonic due to their jealousy of him.
* TheEmpath: In the Japanese dub, he has an unexplained ability to "hear" Amy and Chris when they are thinking of him.
* FamedInStory: He gains this status starting in "That’s What Friends Are For". Sonic constantly gets mobbed by fans and appears on TV, magazines, and newspapers. He becomes so popular that in "Mean Machines", his fans started a movement in his likeness and ''quit their jobs just to run Sonic fanclubs''.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang:
** Outside of missions, Sonic notably spends very little time with his friends from his world, usually perferring to sleep or run by himself. In some episodes (such as 5 and 9), he outright refuses offers to join his friends on their trips, only getting involved after Eggman attacks them.
** Despite Chris' friendship with Sonic being the driving force for the former's character, the two don't spend much of their freetime together, with Chris usually hanging out with Tails, Amy, and Cream instead.
* GoldenSuperMode: As in the games, Sonic can use the seven Chaos Emeralds to achieve a SuperMode called "Super Sonic", which makes him [[PowerGlows glow]], [[PowerFloats fly]], and dials up his already established SuperSpeed. ''Sonic X'' is the only animated adaptation of the franchise to include it, so far.
* GratuitousEnglish: Sonic would say at least one phrase in English about OncePerEpisode. It helps that his actor, Creator/JunichiKanemaru, is an English teacher. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fOXvXrCaTA So much English, so little time...]]
* HealingHands: Has the ability to heal the wounds of others whilst in his Super Form.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Along with his friends, he initially gets in trouble with the authorities and hides out in Chris' house when not countering Eggman's latest scheme for the early part of Season 1. A few heroic bouts later, however, Sonic becomes ''very'' popular. He briefly gets this status again when he is framed for Shadow’s theft, and when he starts taking down the towers for Eggman’s Sunshine Balls, but both times, he’s proven innocent in the end.
* InsufferableGenius: Just like many other interpretations of the character, Sonic is sarcastic, reckless, ''incredibly'' complacent and a bit of a troll. Compared to other takes however, it tends to be because this version of Sonic nearly always manages to back up his bragging in both the physical and intellectual department, and while not an academic genius by any level, his tendency to trust his gut feelings nearly always ends with the right results [[SurroundedByIdiots compared to everyone else]]. It is suggested to be as much a reason he gets on the nerves of characters like Knuckles, having all their ego but none of the bad consequences and humblings.
* InvincibleHero: He constantly bulldozes through any threat with ease. There's only a handful of episodes where someone or something beats him (E-99 Egg Emperor [[note]]Of course, it changes once he gets all 7 Chaos Emeralds.[[/note]] and Egg Spider) or even so much as effectively challenges him (Shadow). Played with since Sonic ''does'' often take beatings, but [[MadeOfIron he just keeps going on]], [[TheJuggernaut his strategy and strength rarely hindered by it.]]
* TheJuggernaut: He is even more of a LightningBruiser than most other interpretations. If something manages to attack him, he often solves it by just amping his efforts and taking a Power Ring.
* LampshadeHanging: Displays a bit of MediumAwareness in the Japanese anime. In the comics, true to Ian Flynn's writing style, Sonic ''loves'' pointing out [[GenreSavvy any story cliches and flaws]] that ensue.
* LargeHam: Especially in the Japanese version. He's pretty hammy as usual.
** In the Japanese Episode 55, he screamed "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT", from the top of his lungs.
* LightningBruiser: He has SuperSpeed, can bust through robots with ease, and can take quite a bit of damage.
* LovedByAll: The people of Earth love Sonic to the point of obsession, and most of Sonic’s friends hero-worship him. Knuckles get annoyed with him, Vector is jealous of Sonic’s popularity, and Sam is jealous of Sonic being faster than him, but they do like him deep down, and Vector drops his resentment of Sonic after his first appearance. The only people who flat-out don’t like Sonic are the villains.
* MadeOfIron: He appears to be capable of taking immense physical beatings and yet get back up nearly every single time.
* MenDontCry: Cries in episode 52, but his eyes are hidden from view when he does.
* NiceGuy: Similiar to his game counterpart, he is often noted for his compassion and selflessness.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: The whole reason Sonic and gang got [[TrappedInAnotherWorld stranded on Earth]] was because Sonic got flashy while facing Eggman and duped his robots into shooting the machine that was containing the Chaos Emeralds, which is what triggered the Chaos Control in the pilot episode.
* NextTierPowerUp: When the Chaos Emeralds are not available for him, he uses Power Rings for a small power boost in battle
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: He doesn't like being smothered with affectionate attention, either by [[StalkerWithACrush Amy]] or by his human fans.
* NotHelpingYourCase: During the Egg Moon saga, Sonic goes about destroying Eggman's Sunshine Balls, which he's using to provide the populace with artificial sunlight after his Egg Moon supposedly malfunctioned and created a permanent eclipse, and ends up making himself a HeroWithBadPublicity in the process. While it turns out he was right to do so (Eggman was in fact deliberately controlling the Egg Moon to keep blocking the sun in order to sell the Sunshine Balls as part of a get-rich-quick scheme and to make himself a VillainWithGoodPublicity), he still doesn't bother telling anyone this before he starts smashing the towers, and only does so after he gets tired of fighting the combined forces of Knuckles and G.U.N., something Knuckles calls him out on; though Sonic correctly retorts that [[IdiotBall it should have been obvious]].
* AnOddPlaceToSleep: Has a tendency to sleep on rooftops, balcony guards, the wing of the X-Tornado and even on top of a castle battlement in one instance.
* OneManArmy: He takes armies of heavily armed robots, giant monsters and galactic overlords out on a regular day-basis.
* OnlySaneMan: In the episodes "Sunblock Solution" and "Eggman for President," he's initially the ''only'' person who realizes that Eggman's Egg Moon/Sunshine Ball deal is a scam and a lie because if the Egg Moon had truly stopped rotating, then it would stand still and ''not'' keep blocking the sun; even geniuses like Tails and Chuck [[IdiotBall forgot that detail]]. When Knuckles demands to know why he didn't tell them that ''before'' he went about smashing the towers, Sonic retorts that [[ThoughtTheyKnewAlready it should've been obvious]]. He also plays this role in the comics, with Sonic usually being the ''only'' person who sees through Dr. Eggman’s [[PaperThinDisguise paper-thin disguises]].
* OutOfFocus: In Season 1, even with Chris [[SpotlightStealingSquad taking so much attention]], Sonic still got to be the star of all of the episodes, especially in season 2. But by the time Season 3 comes about and introduces the relationship between Tails and Cosmo, he gets pushed to the wayside a bit further.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: See the One Man Army example above.
* PrimaryColorChampion: He’s a hero who wears red shoes and his body is mostly covered in blue quills.
* RealMenWearPink: He seems to hold a strong appreciation for flowers.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: In the Egg Moon Saga, he goes against the law by destroying the Mirror Towers upon (rightly) concluding that they had to be part of Eggman's latest scheme.
* SecondaryCharacterTitle: Played with. Sonic is the titular protagonist of the anime, but he is mostly never the POV character throughout the episodes. Subverted this trope in Season 2A with the Adventure Arcs.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Manly Man to Tails' Sensitive Guy, but to Knuckles or Shadow, ''he's'' the Sensitive Guy.
* SignatureMove: Spin Attack is his most iconic attack move.
* SleepyHead: Often found sleeping on Chris' roof.
* SpikyHair: Like in all continuities, Sonic has very large, spiky hair.
* SuperDrowningSkills: As usual, he's scared witless of water, but he's able to overcome his fear when the situation calls for it.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Dark Super Sonic. Although it didn't make him evil, just more aggressive.
* SuperSpeed: ''Sonic X'' pins his top speed before bursting past the sound barrier at 600 mph, which is essentially the far limit of subsonic speeds. Later on, he races against a supersonic car and wins ''handily'' to the point a high-speed camera had to be used to show him darting past the line, coming back to make faces, and then shoot back over it again before the car catches up. Furthermore, he's shown fast enough to outrace ''lightning''.
* {{Ubermensch}}: An heroic example, he doesn't care about others' rules or morals and simply fights for what he believes in. Rouge brings up this personality trait of his when the President questions why Sonic would oppose them and destroy the Mirror Towers.[[note]]Of course, the real reason was that he had figured out that Eggman was up to no good before everyone else, and rightly concluded that said towers must be part of his latest scheme.[[/note]]
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** With Knuckles, at times. However, it's ''mostly'' in a playful manner, and they do respect each other, most of the time.
** Also has this with Shadow, due to their rivalry.
* VocalEvolution: Throughout Season 1 and the Chaos Saga, Creator/JasonGriffith's perfomance as Sonic sounds more like an attempt to stay closer to Creator/RyanDrummond's Sonic. During the Shadow saga and onwards, this performance is gradually phased out in favor of a more unique, slightly deeper sounding voice. Come Season 3, his perfomance sounds much closer to what he would apply when replacing Drummond as Sonic starting from ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''.
* WalkingTheEarth: Although he spends a lot of his time at Chris' home, he's quite often shown traveling the world in his spare time.
* WeaksauceWeakness: His fear of water is much more prominent in this series. He is unable to swim, as well, and must find ways to adapt to this.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: ''Sonic X'' takes Sonic's inability to swim and upgrades it into a personality flaw, where Sonic is literally ''terrified'' of being surrounded by or falling into large bodies of water. Even in the face of just a puddle of water he becomes a frantic NervousWreck.

[[folder:Miles "Tails" Prower]]
[[quoteright:260:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tails_sonic_x.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyoHirohashi (JP), Amy Palant (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Creator/MarieEugenieMarechal (FR), Maximiliano Salgado (Seasons 1 & 2) & Silvina Ganger (Season 3) (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

An eight-year old fox with two tails, Miles "Tails" Prower is Sonic's best friend. [[ChildProdigy He is a pilot, mechanic, inventor]], and sidekick to Sonic. While humble and sees Sonic as his idol, Tails grows to become independent and forms a IntergenerationalFriendship with Chuck. He pilots the Tornado bi-plane, and then the X Tornado. Forms a romantic relationship with Cosmo in the third season.
-----
* AcePilot: He designed the X-Tornado and its successors, and flies all of them.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: He's very smart and mature for a kid.
* AscendedExtra: He's merely a supportive character for the first 2 seasons, before gaining more focus in Season 3. Specifically, his growing romance with Cosmo.
* BerserkButton: He doesn't take it well when someone insults his technical skills. He also hates bullies (due to being bullied before he met Sonic), as revealed in "The Dam Scam".
* BestFriend: As usual, Tails is Sonic’s best friend, as stated in episode 2.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He usually acts in a very affable demeanor, but goes to BreakTheCutie when someone would attempt to kill Cosmo or leave without saving her.
* BreakTheCutie: Tails goes through this by being forced to execute the girl he loves, blasting Cosmo in order to save the galaxy.
* BullyMagnet: He used to be bullied for liking science.
* CheerfulChild: He's sunny, optimistic, and sweet-natured.
* ChildProdigy: He can fly a plane, can repair things, and he's only eight.
* CoolPlane: The X-Tornado, which is both a jet plane and a robotic walker.
* CunningLikeAFox: He's both a ChildProdigy and a fox.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: As revealed in "The Dam Scam", he was bullied by other kids for liking science before he met Sonic, who defended him.
* DecompositeCharacter: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. He's still one of Sonic's close friends and sidekick, but the HeroWorshipper and co-dependent aspects of his character are focused on his human {{Expy}}, Chris Thorndyke.
* {{Determinator}}: No matter how many times he got beat up, he refused to stop trying to protect Cosmo from Shadow.
* DemotedToExtra: To an extent. His role as Sonic's right-hand man is seen a lot less in favor of the latter's bond with Chris. He gains a more prominent role in the third season however and the comics also use his sidekick role more often.
* DistractedByTheSexy: He's instantly defeated by Rouge the Bat when she kisses him on the cheek in the tournament.
* DubNameChange: In the Latin American dub, he is renamed from Tails to Colas, a literal translation.
* TheEveryman: Despite his genius intellect and occasional CheerfulChild traits, he is mostly little more than the NiceGuy of the group. He is developed slightly in the third season, though it's still kinda hard to define his personality.
* {{Flight}}: Though he [[ForgottenPhlebotinum very rarely uses]] his [[HeliCritter trademark tail-flight]], he often pilots the aircraft the team is using.
* GadgeteerGenius: Just like in the games, being capable of building planes and mechs despite being only age eight. Sourcebooks even indicate that Tails is as smart as Eggman.
* HiddenBadass: Happens to show this, especially if he's in his X-Tornado.
* HumbleHero: He's very modest when he saves the world from ruin.
* IsThisWhatAngerFeelsLike: When losing Cosmo.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Most of his friends (Sonic, Amy, Knuckles etc) are a bit older than him, but his friendship with [[CoolOldGuy Chuck]] takes the cake.
* InelegantBlubbering: Cries uncontrollably in the Japanese version when he’s forced to kill Cosmo.
* InterspeciesRomance: With Cosmo, in Season 3.
* TheLabRat: Spends most of his time designing gear for the heroes.
* LovableNerd: He's very geeky, but also very cute.
* MrFixit: He can fix anything from bikes to ships.
* NiceGuy: One of the most polite and kind-hearted of the cast.
* PuppyLove: In Season 3, he develops a crush on Cosmo, a young plant alien girl.
* SayMyName: In several episodes does he shout for Sonic. In the final episode, he cries out, “'''COSMOOOOO!!!'''” after killing her.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Sensitive Guy to Knuckles, Shadow, and Sonic's Manly Men.
* TheSmartGuy: Tails has a talent for tinkering.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Cosmo. [[spoiler:Their relationship ends tragically when she sacrifices herself to defeat the Metarex and Tails has to fire the finishing blow, killing Cosmo as well.]]
* TragicKeepsake: Cosmo's seed, after he kills her. A plant on the windowsill suggests it's going to sprout into a new Cosmo.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Amy Rose]]
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amy_sonic_x.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/TaekoKawata (JP), Creator/LisaOrtiz (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Naïké Fauveau (FR); Amaya Forch (Seasons 1 & 2) & Mariela Álvarez (Season 3) (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

Sonic's self-proclaimed love interest, Amy is an optimistic, strong-willed girl who has a long-standing crush on Sonic and wants to be his girlfriend. While she means well, she can be a bit of a handle and often [[TheGlomp glomps Sonic]]. In battle, she uses her trust Piko Piko Hammer. Turns deadly with her HairTriggerTemper.
------
* AdaptationalJerkass: Amy is much more aggressive and obsessed with Sonic here than she was in the ''Adventure'' games. It seems that writers of ''VideoGame/SonicBattle'' were taking notes.
* AngerBornOfWorry: Shows this to Sonic in episode 52.
* AttentionWhore: She can be one towards Sonic, or when she's on the camera.
* BadassNormal: Even Eggman's afraid of getting her signature hammer strike.
* BerserkButton: Ruining the moment between her and Sonic, or suggesting he doesn't return her feelings.
* BrattyHalfPint: She is rather sulky and obnoxious, if not outright [[HairTriggerTemper violent and intimidating]]. This got exaggerated in later episodes, especially the third season.
* BreakTheCutie: In the anime's adaptation of ''Adventure'', she witnesses Gamma's destruction. Though she smiles for Lily getting back her family, as soon as they fly away, she bursts into tears.
* BrutishCharacterBrutishWeapon: The Piko-Piko Hammer is her weapon of choice. Combined with her short temper, she's a force to be reckoned with.
* CharacterCatchphrase: In the Japanese version; "[[WhatTheHellHero SONIC, YOU IDIOT!!!]]"
* ClingyJealousGirl: She gets very angry when any other girl talks to Sonic or suggests that she has romantic feelings for the hedgehog.
* CuteAndPsycho: Her HairTriggerTemper and {{Tsundere}} mood swings sometimes come across as a bit... unhinged. Just about ''everyone'' is scared of her when she's angry.
* TheDitz: She can't see the difference between Sonic and any other male hedgehog.
* DemonicPossession: Amy gets possessed by a Boom Boo at one point in episode 19. The difference is [[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EQLWevIWAAIDas7?format=jpg staggering]], with ScaryTeeth and ghostly eyes.
* DependingOnTheWriter: In some episodes she's a kind girl who is a bit short-tempered but not terribly so, while in others she's far more hot-headed. Comparing some original episodes to the adaptations, it's hard to think Amy would treat [[RobotBuddy Gamma]] as anything more than upcoming scrap metal.
* {{Determinator}}: She never quits trying to become Sonic’s girlfriend, no matter how many times he rejects her.
* EvilLaugh: She lets out two menacing ones out in episode 69. The English version sounds more like one.
* FeminineWomenCanCook: She learns cooking from Ella.
* {{Flanderization}}: In Season Three, she's more often comic relief, so her rude and overaggressive qualities start to take over her personality more.
* GenkiGirl: She's ''very'' easy to excite.
* GirlyGirlWithATomboyStreak: She may be sweet and friendly, but can be aggressive and she can smash anything with a hammer.
* TheGlomp: She clings to Sonic many times throughout the show.
* GoodIsNotNice: Despite being one of the good guys, she is the most prone to having a mean attitude.
* HairTriggerTemper: She often threatens physical harm on anyone for rather minuscule reasons.
* HammerSpace: She can literally make her hammer appear out of thin air, and possibly has an infinite amount of them.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Is shown to be one in a few episodes, adding to her AdaptationalJerkass status.
-->'''Amy:''' ''[to Knuckles]'' If we do go to that base, you should stay on the ship. You're much too hot-headed for this mission.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Whenever it comes to her relationship with Sonic.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: She becomes close friends with Ella, Chris' middle-aged housekeeper.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: When she's not having a hot temper, behaving like a brat, and gushing over Sonic, Amy can be friendly. She can be comforting towards Cream and cares deeply for Lily and Gamma.
* KarmaHoudini: Zigzagged. She never gets called out or punished for her temperamental, sometimes violent behavior. However, it could be seen as karmic that she never gets to go out with Sonic.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Light Feminine to Rouge's Dark Feminine. Amy is a pink GenkiGirl with a childish crush on Sonic, while Rouge is a FemmeFatale ClassyCatBurglar who flirts with Knuckles.
* MagicSkirt: Amy's skirt acts as if it might have a wire frame keeping it in place.
* MoodSwinger To an ''[[AdaptationalJerkass extraordinary extent]]'' in this adaptation. One minute, she's cutesy and smitten with Sonic, the other she's raging smashing things.
* NeverBareheaded: She never takes off her headband.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: With Sonic, both literally and figuratively. She's a pink female hedgehog and he's a blue male hedgehog.
* PinkMeansFeminine: A pink hedgehog with a girly streak.
* ProudBeauty: She takes a lot of pride in her appearance.
** In "That’s What Friends Are For", she gets out of Chris’ limo in her fancy dress and poses for the paparazzi with a proud smile on her face.
** In "Eggman For President", she claims she’s the prettiest girl in the whole world.
** In "H2Whoa", she fantasizes about Sonic telling her she’s the most beautiful girl in the universe.
** In "Mission Match-Up", when she shows Sonic her party dress, she asks him to tell her how pretty she is. When he doesn’t answer, she assumes he’s too stunned for words.
* PsychoPink: She is already no slouch when it comes to fighting, but this incarnation is more temperamental and ''much'' fiercer as a fighter. Her feelings for Sonic can also come off more of an obsession and she often acts [[ClingyJealousGirl overprotective of him.]]
* RageQuit: She does this in her match against Rouge in the TournamentArc after getting her hammer knocked out of her hands and being too exhausted to continue.
* SelfProclaimedLoveInterest: Inside her head, Sonic is already her boyfriend. It's still not clear if he likes her, but even if he does, he doesn't seem willing to settle down with her.
* SheCleansUpNicely: Had this effect on Sonic in one episode.
* SmittenTeenageGirl: She's twelve and has a big crush on Sonic that makes act irrationally.
* StalkerWithACrush: She pursues Sonic everywhere.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Knuckles. Between Knuckles' antisocial behavior, Amy's hubris and childishness, and ''both'' of their short tempers and very differing opinions of Sonic, their relationship is one of the most vitriolic of the main team.
* TertiarySexualCharacteristics: As in the games, she distinguishes herself from the other hedgehogs with her eyelashes, dress, boots, and headband.
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: She imagines the times Sonic has saved her as being a RescueRomance, and daydreams about her and Sonic having a romantic day at the beach, watching the sunset together, and kissing.
* TinyTyrannicalGirl: She’ll sometimes bark orders at her friends. She’ll even threaten people with her hammer if they make her mad enough.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Cream's Girly Girl. Amy is feisty and fights with a huge hammer, while Cream is sweet non-fighter.
* {{Tsundere}}: While she's usually a nice girl, she often switches to being incredibly ill-tempered and violent.
* VanityIsFeminine: She’s a girl with a feminine personality and interests, and she often brags about her appearance and wishes for Sonic to tell her how pretty she is.
* ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Hurting Sonic is a very bad idea and woe betide anyone who does so in her presence.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Can be this to a lot of the cast due to her hot temper, but especially clashes with Knuckles.
* {{Yandere}}: Leans towards being one to Sonic. She tends to threaten to beat him with her hammer when he ignores her affections. She'll also crush anyone that tries to get between her and Sonic.

A six-year old rabbit, Cream is the TagalongKid of the protagonists. She is very sweet and good-natured, though she misses her mother Vanilla. Cream is accompanied by Cheese, a loyal Chao who usually mirrors her feelings.
------
* AdaptationalWimp: In the ''VideoGame/SonicAdvanceTrilogy'' and ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'', Cream and Cheese were perfectly capable of racing through the same levels Sonic and co could, and actually had the easiest time defeating Eggman's machines thanks to Cheese's invincibility. Here, not only are portrayed as nothing but a harmless - even petulant - little child, they're much less capable and are generally portrayed {{Non Action Guy}}s. By season 3 however, the anime has her using Cheese to attack the Metarex, [[SubvertedTrope being faithful to her game counterpart]].
* AdvertisedExtra: A more Main Character example. Despite appearing in a lot of the artwork and having merch, they're more seen as minor characters due to them being more in the sidelines
* BadassAdorable: Occasionally joins in on the fight when the plot demands it, especially during Season 3. The rest of the time she has to settle for just being adorable.
* BadassPacifist: Almost never fights, and doesn't like it either, but sometimes, it happens. Especially when ItsPersonal.
* BerserkButton: Calling Cheese her pet - he's her friend. She also hated being questioned about her role with the team because of her age. Granted both are more "Mild Sulk Buttons" than a berserk rage, but for [[NiceGirl Cream]], it's a pretty jarring showing of temper.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Has moments where she becomes more wily or snaky, mostly PlayedForLaughs. Also as pacifistic as she is, [[TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong Knuckles]] and [[spoiler:[[ShootTheDog Emerl]]]] know she is far from weak.
* BunniesForCuteness: Cream is a friendly little bunny girl.
* CheerfulChild: Despite all of the dangerous situations she finds herself in, Cream is always polite and respectful.
* CowardlyLion: As she's a young child, she is easily frightened. However, she does have her moments of bravery, and will get involved if she has to.
* TheCutie: Cream is an absolutely adorable bunny girl who is friends with a fairy-like creature named Cheese.
* DamselInDistress: Their being captured by Eggman and Sonic going to save them is the reason they got sent to Earth in the first place. An episode later, they were captured by the human government for study, only to be rescued by Sonic and Tails. Since then, they have been avoiding this trope.
* DeliberatelyCuteChild: During the baseball game, she uses her cute charms to distract Eggman's pitcher.
* DubNameChange: In the Latin American dub, they are renamed from Cream and Cheese to Crema and Queso, a literal translation.
* EarsAsHair: Her ears resemble GirlishPigtails.
* EmpathyPet: Cheese usually mirrors Cream's feelings.
* EvenTheLovingHeroHasHatedOnes: While hatred is maybe an exaggeration, the anime (and some ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' games of its time) tended to punctuate Knuckles' bad attitude and ButtMonkey status by having even Cream, the almost infallibly polite NiceGirl of the team, take fondness in insulting or manipulating him in at least one episode of the anime in response to Knuckles not helping willingly. At one point, Cream nonchalantly helps steal his Master Emerald to use as a power source, and actually leads a group NoHoldsBarredBeatdown onto him when he complains too much about it. For any other character, even a ''[[AllLovingHero bad guy]]'', Cream has been shown to be horrified by similar coldness.
* {{Flight}}: Cream can fly with her ears, but very rarely uses it. Cheese is in flight much more often.
* FreeRangeChildren: Vanilla, like her games counterpart has no problem with Cream's adventures and rather nonchalantly allows her to travel with the team to fight the Meterax. This is actually [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] by Vector in one instance, [[NotYourProblem though quickly shot]] [[TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong down by the others]].
** Subverted at one point in the comics, when her mom was considering taking her and Cheese away from Station Square because its usually attacked by anything involving Eggman, but decided against it when they and Chris saved Vanilla and Chris's mother from ghosts.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Most of her friends are much older than her, but this is especially prevalent in her friendship with Ella.
* JapanesePoliteness: She is polite, follows manners (and never forgets them) and does what she is told
* JerkassBall: ''Really'' strangely, she can be randomly devious or snide towards Knuckles and a few others at certain times. While these instances still aren't precisely common and nearly all RuleOfFunny, it's as close to having a version of Cream that ''isn't'' infallibly nice.
* LittleMissSnarker: While never rude, her rare occasional use of this trope[[DependingOnTheWriter depends on when she's written throughout the series.]]
* NiceGirl: She's very friendly, hardworking and tries to be close to everyone she meets, which is always returned in kind, and is always read to lend her friends a hand whenever the situation calls for it.
* ProneToTears: She's usually a CheerfulChild, but she's highly sensitive and prone to tears.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: An adorable rabbit.
* SailorFuku: Her dress resembles a simplified version of one.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Cream looks a lot like her mother outside of attire and body shape.
* SuperScream: In issue #36, she lets out a powerful sonic scream to protect a judge and her kitten from a pack of wild dogs. Unfortunately, [[PutOnABus Cream hasn't used this ability since this issue came out,]] which is a shame, considering some fans were probably wanting more of that power from Cream.
* TechnicalPacifist: Hates violence, but ''will'' get involved if she has to.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Amy's Tomboy. Cream is a sweet non-fighter, in contrast with the feisty Amy who fights with a hammer.
* TookALevelInBadass: Though they rarely ever fight, being the youngest of the Sonic cast, she and Cheese are very capable of holding their own against the likes of [an out-of-control] Emerl. In the third season, they have been able to face a group of Metarex robots. Cream even flew a small space fighter near the end.

[[folder:Knuckles the Echidna]]
[[quoteright:156:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/knuckles_sonicx.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NobutoshiCanna (JP), Creator/DanGreen (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Sébastien Desjours (FR), Alexis Quiroz (Seasons 1 & 2) & Fabio Salvador (Season 3) (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

Sonic's friendly rival, Knuckles is the guardian of Angel Island and the Master Emerald. Completely focused on his duty to guard the Master Emerald, Knuckles has been wandering to find it, and keeps to himself. He is short-tempered and easy on forgiveness, but he makes up for it with his courage and fists.
------
* AdaptationalBadass: In the French dub, Knuckles' battle against Rouge for the Chaos Emerald is more or less a SingleStrokeBattle, and Knuckles states that he defeated her as soon as he hit her even ''once''.
* AdaptationPersonalityChange: {{Inverted}}. The gruff, hot-headed, gullible Knuckles is TruerToTheText of his original concept from ''VideoGame/Sonic3AndKnuckles'' ([[https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_3/Manuals#Knuckles_the_Echidna only apparent in the Japanese manual]]), despite his more low-key, reserved presentation in the localized ''Sonic Adventure'' games. This was reflected in his presentation in ''VideoGame/{{Sonic Advance|Trilogy}} 2'' and ''VideoGame/SonicBattle'', games released concurrently during ''Sonic X'''s original run.
* AdaptationalWimp: During his fight against Shadow, the 4kids dub has Shadow effortlessly knock out Knuckles when he tries to stop him from killing Cosmo. In the original sub, Shadow nearly collapses from exhaustion after defeating Knuckles, it being revealed the only reason he defeated Knuckles so quickly was because Shadow took off his inhibitor rings.
* AesopAmnesia: No matter how many times he's tricked by Eggman's BlatantLies or fake [[HeelFaceTurn Heel-Face Turns]], Knuckles repeatedly fails to learn and always ends up falling for the same tricks and lies again and again. It's even lampshaded in the episode "An Enemy in Need," where Amy outright asks him just how many times he's going to fall for it before it finally sinks it for him that Eggman will ''never'' change his ways.
* AloofAlly: He prefers to do things alone, and tends to get pretty annoyed with Sonic's reckless ways and the group worshiping him. It was only in later episodes, that he grew more attached to the group.
* AntiHero: Though nowhere near as prominent of an example as Shadow, he has trades of this due to his somewhat antisocial attitude and the fact that he frequently picks fights with Sonic.
* BadassArmfold: He does it often with his eyes closed.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Rouge. Her thievery and teasing piss him off, and he blushes furiously when she flirts with him.
* BigDamnHeroes: His introduction in episode 1 when he saved Tails and Amy. Also when he saved Tails in episode 10.
* TheBigGuy: Despite being about the same size as Sonic, he possesses incredible strength, capable of shattering boulders many times bigger than him with his fists.
* BigShutUp: In the episode "Cracking Knuckles", he gives Sonic one for making a mockery out of him. It gave the hedgehog [[OhCrap pause for a moment]] as he realized Knuckles wasn't playing.
* BoisterousBruiser: He's quite a fun guy when in the right mood.
* ButtMonkey: In season 3, he gets more prone to slapstick, and often becomes the butt of gags from the rest of the team (often owed to his [[LonersAreFreaks solitude]]). This is downplayed in the comics, though he's still kinda bumbling in tone. In earlier episodes, he was rather taken seriously as a character, but still had several moments.
* CharacterDevelopment: When first introduced, Knuckles was a temperamental lone Wolf who despised Sonic for accidently sending them to earth. But he calms down and becomes more sociable during the process of the show, despite still being short tempered and abrasive. And though he still confronts Sonic when he acts before he thinks, Knuckles develops a genuine friendship with him in season 2 onward.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: The reason why he always forgives Dr. Eggman. Knuckles' moral code is to give everyone a second chance at any time, even if it's Eggman who tricked him once too many times.
* TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong: Downplayed. He tends to be the ButtMonkey due to objecting with Sonic and the others. A RunningGag is made out of the others goading or mocking Knuckles into following things through. This is never called out, even occasions he turned out to be ''right''. However, sometimes, he's actually the voice of reason, like in Episode 10, where he explained the consequences, of playing baseball with Eggman, because of a Chaos Emerald. The group, however, refused to listen, and did their usual thing, which is mocking him, until he gives in. As it turned out, he was right in the end, and it would save them a lot less trouble, if they just took the emerald from Eggman, and put it to a safe place. This is never called out and the team and even Knuckles act like the effort and fun was worth it.
** Happens again in Cosmic Crisis, where his [[WithFriendsLikeThese supposed friends]] steal the Master Emerald (without even apologizing or telling him about it) and then get mad at him after he gets (rightfully) angry at them.
* CuteLittleFangs: He has a whole set of them when he's mad or excited.
* DeadpanSnarker: Knuckles is quite good at making snippy remarks, especially at [[VitriolicBestBuds Sonic]].
* DefeatMeansRespect: He respected Emerl with a handshake and complemented him after being defeated by him.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Knuckles is portrayed as a one of the more serious characters in most episodes, while other episodes make him the ButtMonkey of the show.
* {{Determinator}}: He's determined to protect the Master Emerald as long as he lives. He's also extremely persistent when fighting his opponents, getting up no matter how much pain he takes.
* TheDreaded: Eggman fights Sonic daily. However, he's ''terrified'' of Knuckles.
* DreadlockRasta: This adaption gives him dreads along with his quills.
* DubNameChange: In the Latin American dub, he is renamed from Knuckles to Nudillos, a literal translation. The Master Emerald likewise is renamed to Esmeralda Madre (Mother Emerald).
* DubPersonalityChange: The 4kids dub of episode 74 has him outright say that they should remove the device in Cosmo's head knowing full well that it would impair Cosmo's vision and hearing. In the sub version, he was against it and insisted that there had to be a way to remove it without rendering Cosmo both deaf and blind.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He almost never gets any respect. Even after ''risking'' his life to save someone, he's still treated like the ButtMonkey of the group.
* FatalFlaw: During the first half of Series 1, his one track mind towards his duty. Knuckles sole focus is on getting home so he can continue to guard the Master Emerald. Dr. Eggman takes advantage of this to enrage Knuckles into fighting Sonic, and he even willingly goes to Eggman to bargain working together (despite stating several times he's happy on Earth or Sonic's world, as long as he can build his empire). Overall, while his duty is important, his attempts to continue it cause him to overlook the consequences of his actions.
* FieryRedhead: A red echidna who isn't afraid to use his fists.
* FriendlyEnemy: Earlier in season 1, he refused to be Sonic's friend after recklessly putting them to earth, but he still respected him. He also does respect Eggman, despite his extreme dislike towards him.
* FriendlyRivalry: With Sonic, though on his part, [[FriendshipDenial the friendly part would be stretching it a bit]].
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Often the subject of scorn or teasing because of his poor temperament, social skills, and his tendency [[TheComplainerIsAlwaysWrong not to side with team planning.]]
* FriendshipDenial: In a couple of episodes of the first season, he denies being Sonic's friend. This stems of the fact that the finds hedgehog's carefreeness irritating and blames it for getting them transported to another world, not to mention that he gets annoyed by his teasing. It's also implied that he envies Sonic for his freedom and [[MagneticHero popularity]]. As time passes by, though, while he doesn't outright admit it, he has developed a firm bond with Sonic.
* GoodCannotComprehendEvil: He believes in the inherit goodness of people and is always willing to give people second chances. Eggman has used this to his advantage on multiple occasions to trick him into either fighting Sonic or believing he's willing to change his ways, but Knuckles [[AesopAmnesia never learns]].
* GreenEyedMonster: Jealous of Sonic's freedom, popularity, and carefree nature, which is one of the main reasons for their [[VitriolicBestBuds turbulent relationship]].
* HairTriggerTemper: Even the slightest abrasive comment will trigger a flurry of his punches.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: He's constantly tricked by Eggman, and it's lampshaded every time.
* HotBlooded: Knows exactly when to pick a fight with people who push his buttons.
* IneffectualLoner: At first he detached himself from the group, but he came around.
* JerkassHasAPoint:
** He has a massive chip on his shoulder regarding Sonic and often blames him for a lot of things, but he ''does'' have a leg to stand on since Sonic got flashy while facing Eggman and duped his robots into shooting the machine that was containing the Chaos Emeralds, which is what triggered the Chaos Control that left them [[TrappedInAnotherWorld stranded on Earth]] in the first place.
** He gets another moment during the Egg Moon saga, again regarding Sonic. While Sonic destroying Eggman's Sunshine Balls did turn out to be the right thing to do, considering Eggman caused the eclipse that triggered their need in the first place and was keeping it up so the Egg Moon kept blocking the sun as part of a get-rich-quick scheme, Sonic didn't even bother to tell anyone this before he went about smashing the Mirror Towers, and ''only'' did so after [[NotHelpingYourCase fighting both Knuckles and the authorities when they tried to stop him]]. Knuckles states outright that Sonic should have just told them that ''before'' he started knocking the towers down, though Sonic correctly retorts that it should have been obvious what Eggman was doing.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Abrasive, stubborn, somewhat antisocial, sarcastic, and has a huge temper, but ultimately just as heroic as Sonic, cares a lot about doing the right thing, and can be fun to be around when in the right mood.
* TheLancer: A dissenting variant to Sonic.
* MadeOfIron: He is able to win a fight by himself after repetitively getting stomped by a giant alien with metallic body armor and being hit by thunder. He kept getting up while fighting against Yellow Zelkova in episode 72, no matter how much he had to suffer.
* MarriedToTheJob: Spent much of the 1st season thinking about the Master Emerald and Angel Island.
* MegatonPunch: In episode 5, he gave one to Sonic during their fight, and then to Eggman when he realized he tricked him.
* MysteriousPast: He's the LastOfHisKind, that's all he knows.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Near the end of Season 1, he ends up deciding their best chance at returning to their home world is by making a deal with Eggman and giving him the rest of the Chaos Emeralds so he can induce Chaos Control. Unsurprisingly, the minute Knuckles hands them over, Eggman double-crosses him, takes Chris hostage, and ejects Knuckles from the Egg Fort.
* NobodyCallsMeChicken: A RunningGag was for Sonic and co. to batter Knuckles' ego whenever he didn't want to do what they wanted to.
* NoRespectGuy: He's an exceptionally skilled fighter, a cunning TrapMaster on his home turf, and possess ancient knowledge not known to many. Yet, everyone treats him like an idiot due to his temper and lack of social tact. Even ''Cream'' bullies him.
* OneManArmy: In Episode 36, He beats a bunch of Eggman's robots who mistook him as Sonic. Even before Sonic came to help, Knuckles still defeated twice as many robots at once.
* OnlySaneMan: In Episode 10, he explains to everyone that playing baseball with Eggman is not a good idea, and they refuse to listen. Instead, they mock him into going in with the plan. There's even more glaring when he actually turns out to be right.
* OppositesAttract: With Rouge. Knuckles is a no-nonsense and dutiful warrior, while Rouge is a flirtatious and self-serving free spirit.
* OutOfFocus: Appears even less than Cream and some of the human characters in this series due to him usually being an AloofAlly who's off on his own.
* PerpetualFrowner: Most of the time, mostly due his to stoic nature. However, he's genuinely able to crack a smile, when a day is bright, and peaceful.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's a short guy with a powerful punch. His [[MeaningfulName knuckles]] have spikes on them, after all.
* SaveTheVillain: In episode 37, he saved Rouge from falling, though they were fighting. He also tried to save Yellow Zelkova from falling down to the lava after a rough fight.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Whenever he's duped by Eggman, no matter how many times it happens, Knuckles adamantly ''refuses'' to even consider the possibility that Eggman is lying to him again, even as his friends tell him as such point-blank and remind him of all the other times he tricked him. Best shown in "An Enemy in Need"; despite his friends' repeated warnings and admonishments, Knuckles only realizes the truth when Eggman himself [[SayingTooMuch lets it slip]], and Sonic is quick to go on an "[[IWarnedYou I told you so]]" routine.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Manly Man to Sonic and Tails's Sensitive Guys.
* SkilledButNaive: While an exceptionally skilled fighter, a cunning TrapMaster on his home turf, and possessing ancient knowledge not known to many, Knuckles also lacks social tact and is SuperGullible to the point of repeatedly falling for Eggman's BlatantLies and [[FalselyReformedVillain claims of changing his ways]]; while he grew up believing in honesty and the inherit goodness of people, he can't seem to comprehend that with Eggman, [[GoodCannotComprehendEvil there's just no "good" to see]].
* SmileOfApproval: In the ending of "Cracking Knuckles", after being rescued by Sonic from being blown away from the exploding machine, he looks at Sonic with a frown before smiling at him, developing respect for him.
* SuperGullible: Eggman ''always'' manages to dupe him with his latest lie or fake HeelFaceTurn. Sonic and the others even call Knuckles out on it in "An Enemy in Need", Amy in particular:
-->'''Amy''': Knuckles, [[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe you have]] ''[[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe got]]'' [[YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe to be kidding me]]! How many more times are you gonna fall for Eggman's tricks?!
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He likes leek buns.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: Knuckles believes in the good of people, therefore he will always forgive a villain no matter what bad things they do.
* VigilanteMan: When he arrived on earth, Knuckles had wandered on his own to find a way back. The only thing that would take him off guard, was if someone would need help, or to be protected.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With a lot of the cast due to the differences of personalities, but especially with [[DeadpanSnarker Sonic]] and [[{{Tsundere}} Amy]].
* WalkingTheEarth: Before joining Sonic and Co., Knuckles traveled around on his own to find his way back home.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: In the Japanese version, he blurts it out in a flustered panic after accidentally running into an erotic bar in pursuit of two of Eggman's mooks.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: His friends have a tendency to take advantage of him, jarringly noticeable (yet PlayedForLaughs for some reason) in Cosmic Crisis when they steal the Master Emerald and just expect him to be okay with it.
* TheWorfEffect: Being the most physically active after [[InvincibleHero Sonic]], he tends to be knocked down by the new threat most commonly to show their fearsomeness.
* WouldHitAGirl: His philosophy is to not attack the weak - anyone who [[WorthyOpponent can stand up to him]], regardless of gender, is fair game. He does, however, only hit women who are thieves.
* WouldntHurtAChild: At the tournament, he refuses to lay a hand on Chris, despite Chris wanting to fight.
** Subverted when he hits Bokkun in Episode 75, but that might have been more out of sudden temper

[[folder:Rouge the Bat]]
[[quoteright:184:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rouge_sonicx.png]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Rumi Ochiai (JP), Kathleen Delaney (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Marie Lenoir (FR), Maureen Herman (Seasons 1 & 2) & Mara Campanelli (Season 3) (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

A jewel thief bat who begins neutrally aligned but ends up as a government agent working for the President of the United States. She forms a friendship with her partner Topaz, and has a complicated relationship with Knuckles.
-------
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: She has a cameo appearance in Episode 1 and is introduced properly in Episode 11, long before the ''Sonic Adventure 2'' arc.
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Coming on the heels of her debut in the original ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'', this version of Rouge is a more of a FemmeFatale than the original--she's more confident, more sensual, and lacks the childish and [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny distractible]] side she had in ''Adventure 2''. This impression was reinforced by her {{Sexophone}} and, in English, Kathleen Delaney's {{Alto|Villainess}}.
* BathingBeauty: She has two bath scenes [[{{Fanservice}} to take advantage of her sex appeal]], but the cartoon tries to have it both ways and keep the MoralGuardians happy by indicating [[NonNudeBathing she's wearing her gloves and the rest of her outfit by implication]].
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: In one episode, Rouge, along with Sonic and Knuckles, need to travel through some water to get to their destination, but she objects because it would 'spoil [her] makeup'. But even after they get out of the water, Rouge's makeup is perfectly fine.
** Defied during her TournamentArc fight against Knuckles. She left the fight battered and bruised, but appeared fine until she lost consciousness while leaving the arena, resulting in her loss. Obviously, Knuckles did not hold back.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Knuckles. The two are rivals like in the games, and can't seem to be able to have an exchange that doesn't turn into a fight. She also flirts with him at any chance and he's somewhat receptive to her advances later on.
* BoxedCrook: This is how Rouge gets started working with G.U.N. After being caught breaking into one of their facilities, they offer to either let her use her infiltration skills for something good, or spend the rest of her life in jail.
* ClassyCatBurglar: She is a renowned jewel thief.
* CombatStilettos: Equipped with metal soles.
* CuteLittleFangs: You don't see them that often, but they're there.
* CurbstompBattle: She gives one to Amy in the quarterfinals of the tournament and on the receiving end of one to Knuckles in the semifinals.
* DarkActionGirl: Downplayed, as while she has worked for Eggman, she's much more of an AntiHero than villain.
* DeadpanSnarker: She never holds back her sass, that's for sure.
* FemmeFatale: Her voluptuous and daring attitude turns any man's head.
* {{Flight}}: Being a bat, Rouge is able to fly and glide.
* FurryReminder: Rouge behaves like her assigned species more than anyone else from her world. She constantly hangs upside-down, flourishes in the night, and can see through the dark. She even tells Topaz that the perfect place for a bat to hang out is a dark cave.
* {{Greed}}: She loves gems and wishes that all the world's gems were hers.
* HeroicRROD: At the end of her TournamentArc fight with Knuckles, Rouge emerges from the tent battered, bruised, and seemingly victorious, only to collapse the moment she steps backstage. Knuckles, who's revealed to be just barely standing, goes through instead.
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Aside from her ears, wings, and tail, she has the most human-like body proportions in the series.
* {{Hypocrite}}: In Episode 35, she criticizes Shadow for his refusal to save Chris's life on Prison Island. Yet, she has no problem with letting Chris fall to his death in Episode 64 where he refuses to give her the Chaos Emeralds and then drops him.
* HypocriticalHumor: She constantly mocks Knuckles, yet she expects him to treat her the same way in return. They get into a comical argument about this in episode 52.
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: Might be {{justified|Trope}} by the fact a high neckline would be inconvenient for her due to the wings on her back.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She may be selfish and greedy at times, but she cares about Topaz, Shadow, and the others.
* KickChick: She uses attacks with kicks rather than punching.
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Dark Feminine to Amy's Light Feminine. Rouge is a FemmeFatale ClassyCatBurglar who flirts with Knuckles, while Amy is a pink GenkiGirl with a childish crush on Sonic.
* LoveableRogue: She's a government agent, but she's still a thief. There's occasions where she helps out the heroes.
* MaleGaze: She tends to pose in... odd ways in the series.
* MsFanservice: She is really curvy and buxom, and ''Sonic X'' emphasizes this much more than the video games.
* MsViceGirl: She can be heroic, but is always after jewels.
* NominalHero: She only does heroic work for money or emeralds in return. She worked with Topaz and GUN to avoid any previous charges of theft while she is on Earth, [[spoiler:as well as keep a diamond she stole beforehand]].
* OppositesAttract: With Knuckles. Rouge is a flirtatious and self-serving free spirit, while Knuckles is a no-nonsense and dutiful warrior.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: She has more ShipTease with Knuckles than in the games. Their love interest in each other is more emphasized as the two have a few romantic conversations with each other which hinted their love in a few episodes.
* ProudBeauty: She sometimes brags about being beautiful.
-->'''Topaz:''' Good luck.
-->'''Rouge:''' Who needs luck when you have talent and beauty?
* SeriousBusiness: Jewels are her passion, and consequently ''fake'' jewels piss her off. When she first got her hands on a fake Chaos Emerald created by the Metarex, she was so angry upon realizing the truth she crushed the inert gem to pieces with one hand. In a later episode, she quite happily takes the time to destroy a factory churning out said fake Chaos Emeralds.
* {{Sexophone}}: Used as her {{Leitmotif}}, playing whenever she appears and almost every time she speaks. Exaggerated in the 4Kids dub.
* SlapSlapKiss: In episode 52, she beats the crap out of Knuckles for not treating her well enough and then she suddenly makes out with him offscreen.
* StationaryWings: Her wings rarely move when she's flying.
* TheTease: She sarcastically flirts with Knuckles (and Topaz in the Japanese dub), and defeats Tails in the TournamentArc by kissing him.
-->'''Rouge:''' ''[To Tails after defeating him]'' Sorry to smooch and run, but I've gotta touch up my lipstick.
* {{Tsundere}}: One moment she's teasing, insulting and beating up Knuckles and the other she starts flirting with him and making her interest on him clear.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Topaz. Though at first the regimental Topaz disapproves of the scheming Rouge (who keeps calling her an old lady), the two become friends fast.
* WeaksauceWeakness: She can't handle loud, high-pitched noises due to her sensitive bat ears.
* WellExcuseMePrincess: In episode 52, Rouge starts criticizing Knuckles' tough guy attitude and demands him to treat her better, to Knuckles' great dismay. However, she arguably treats him the same way.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: She's not evil (not always, anyway), but she's selfish and manipulative enough to qualify.
* WouldntHurtAChild: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. She has no qualms fighting Tails in the TournamentArc but opts to defeat him via a RingOut after [[PostKissCatatonia stunning him with a kiss]] rather than knocking him out.

-----
* AdaptationalJerkass: This version of Vector shows petty jealousy towards Sonic and falsely accuses him and his friends of kidnapping Cream because of said jealousy.
* AntiHero: Vector is jealous, impulsive, and very greedy, although he's generally good-natured despite that.
* AscendedExtra: Vector and company appear much more in the ''Comicbook/SonicX'' comic than in the first two seasons.
* BewareMyStingerTail: Charmy, of course.
* BrattyHalfPint: Charmy, to Vector's annoyance.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: All three of them do this in their debut episode, "Defective Detectives". Vector also does it in "Hedgehog Hunt".
--> '''Vector''': ''(playing a grand piano)'' I bet you're pretty surprised to see me playing the piano.
* ButtMonkey: The whole team often act as luckless comic relief.
* CheerfulChild: Charmy is the youngest and very excitable.
* CloudCuckooLander: Charmy, Vector has some moments as well.
* ComicTrio: Vector is TheLeader, Espio is the StraightMan and Charmy, while not stupid and is capable of seeing the flaws in Vector's plans, is usually just a CheerfulChild who goes along with everything.
* DumbassHasAPoint: When Vector prepares to throw Cream into a sack to take her home to her mother whether she likes it or not, he kind of has a point. True, her mother didn't ''ask'' for Chaotix to bring her home, but it is rather insane for a six-year-old to be running around in space trying to save the galaxy from evil Metarex.
* FaceOfAThug: Vector looks rough, but he's really a self-admitted softie.
* FlechetteStorm: Espio does this with [[StuffBlowingUp explosive shuriken.]]
* {{Flight}}: Charmy, quite frequently.
* GeniusBruiser: Vector is both the muscle and the brains behind the bunch.
* GogglesDoNothing: Charmy never wears his goggles.
* GreenEyedMonster: In his first appearance, Vector is shown to be jealous of Sonic's fame, bravado, and high lifestyle, being a much more renowned hero than him, while he struggles to make ends meet as a detective.
* HiddenDepths: Vector [[BreakingTheFourthWall tells the viewers]] when he is seen playing a grand piano.
-->''You didn't think I could play the piano?''
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Vector, Espio and Charmy are 20, 16, and 6, respectively.
* LikesOlderWomen: Vector has a crush on Vanilla.
* TheMatchmaker: Vector notices Tails and Cosmo's relationship and attempts to help him woo her.
* MrViceGuy: Vector is very jealous of Sonic, he’s the greediest of the trio, and he convinced Espio to steal a DVD player, but he's a sweet guy.
* ShipperOnDeck: Vector supports [[PuppyLove Tails x Cosmo]] and tries to set them up in one episode.
* StraightMan: Vector to Charmy, and Espio to Vector.
* VocalEvolution: In their first appearance in Episode 39, Creator/JimmyZoppi voices Vector in a gravelly, lisped tone. In their later appearances, his rendition is completely altered into an extremely nasally bellow.

Cream's mother.
------
* ActualPacifist: She doesn't engage in any fighting/violence like the heroes do.
* EveryoneCallsHerBarkeep: Goes by Mom/Mama, Cream's Mom, or Cream's Mother. No one ever refers to her by name throughout the series, or even Ms. Rabbit. For some reason, there's even a sign near her house that says ''"The House of Cream's Mom"''.
* HumanoidFemaleAnimal: Somewhat downplayed but, like Rouge, she has something of humanoid shape, though she's heavier set and is shaped more so like a rabbit would be.
* TeamMom: She's this to the entire non-human cast.

-------
* AccidentalHero: In "The Dam Scam", he unknowingly helped foil a plot by a corrupt construction company to destroy a nature preserve so they could build a dam, first by scaring off the workers who tried to start a forest fire, then by destroying the on-site construction equipment (since his robot of the episode, E-65 Gorru-Gaooh, couldn't camouflage itself against artificial objects).
* AdaptationalDumbass: In ''Adventure 2'', Eggman figured out Tails's Chaos Emerald was a fake on his own. In the adaptation, he actually didn't know the emerald was a fake.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy:
** Although he does follow the same villainous actions of his game counterpart, the anime version refuses to torture his hostages, while in the games he had no problem with torturing Sonic. In fact, Eggman is [[MetaGuy well aware he is in a saturday morning cartoon show]], and worries about the kids watching the violence.
** This is furthered in the comics, where his FriendlyEnemy status is amped more and more.
* AffablyEvil: He wants to take over the world, he lies to get what he wants, but he respects Sonic as an enemy and often feels bad about the thought of him dying. He never seems to want to kill Sonic, just defeat him, since he knows that [[VictoryIsBoring he'd have no challenges left with no enemies to fight]]. He's the one who talks Sonic down from his [[WhatYouAreInTheDark infamous transformation into Dark Sonic]], and the one who causes Chris to have a JerkassRealization about his own selfishness.
* AmbiguousSituation: While he hails from Sonic's world, both Professor Gerald and his cousin Maria still hail from Earth; this leads Eggman to theorize that he was initially born on Earth and somehow ended up on Sonic's world, but it's unclear whether or not this is the case.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: On top of coming from another world and having cartoonish proportions, Eggman is also freakishly big compared to normal humans. He had to kneel down quite a bit to shake the president's hand, which also allowed the viewer to see that ''Eggman's fists are bigger than a normal human's head.''
* AntiVillain: Borders on this, due to never going as far as the other villains in the series. Taken even further in the comic.
* BadassNormal: In the comics, Eggman was able to go toe to toe with Sonic in a wrestling match.
* BadBadActing: Vector calls him on it and Sonic recognizes it in episode 71.
* BadBoss: Treats Decoe, Bocoe, and Bokkun quite badly at times, although it's PlayedForLaughs and he has occasional PetTheDog moments with them.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: [[DependingOnTheWriter Sometimes]]. In the earlier episodes at least he is feared by the humans, with a lot of his plans coming off as genuinely deadly until [[InvincibleHero Sonic]] intervenes. He did also nearly kill Sonic with his Egg Emperor at the end of the first season, but he was more trying to play around with Sonic and not try to kill him.
* BigBad: Of Seasons 1 and 2. His status is usurped by the Metarex in Season 3.
* BreakoutCharacter: He had a large amount of development in the anime itself. In the comics however he almost eclipses Sonic as the main star.
* CardCarryingVillain: He loves boasting about how evil he is.
* DidYouActuallyBelieve:
** In "A Dastardly Deed," after double-crossing Knuckles into giving him the remaining Chaos Emeralds, he makes such a speech to Chris, informing him that unlike Sonic and co., he has ''never'' cared about returning to their home planet; he just wants to establish his Eggman Empire, and either world would do.
--->'''Chris''': What do you think you're doing, Eggman?!\
'''Eggman''': Wise up! You didn't really believe that I was homesick like your loser friends, did you? The only thing I care about is establishing the Eggman Empire. I can do that on my planet, or yours. It makes no difference to me.
** Done again in "Eggman for President," when he reveals to Decoe and Bocoe that the Sunshine Ball/Egg Moon event was all set up by him as yet another plan, and mocks them for ever believing he had truly reformed.
--->'''Eggman:''' Don't tell me you metallic meatheads think that this hero act is for real. Why, I planned this crafty little coup right from the beginning!
* DitzyGenius: He's capable of being threatening and was the BigBad of Season 1 but, as we can tell, he's also not too bright.
* DubNameChange: In the Latin American dub, he is renamed from Doctor Eggman to Doctor Huevo (Doctor Egg), a play on his game. An accurate translation (Doctor Hombre-Huevo) wouldn't sound good.
* {{Egopolis}}: He wants to make the world into ''Eggman Land'', whether Sonic's world, Earth, or both!
* EnemyMine: Teams up with the heroes whenever a bigger threat comes along.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He can threaten his hostages with no problem, but he will ''not'' hurt them.
-->''"It's one thing to take people prisoner and threaten them, but when you hurt somebody, that's going too far."''
** After his below mentioned TheReasonYouSuckSpeech sends Chris running away crying, Eggman actually feels bad about how much he hurt him.
-->'''Decoe:''' Chris! ''[tries to follow him]''\
'''Eggman:''' '''DON'T GO AFTER HIM!''' ''[in a sadder tone]'' Let the boy be...
* EvilIsPetty: He'd do anything to get on Sonic's nerves, not that he's always very successful with it.
* EvilVirtues: He's very hard-working, and never gives up. He does have at least some restraints in his menace as well.
* FalselyReformedVillain: During the Egg Moon saga, he claims to have changed his ways, winning good faith and [[VillainWithGoodPublicity publicity]] by rebuilding the moon, and then solving the problem of a seeming "malfunction" that caused a solar eclipse by making artificial Sunshine Balls; in reality, Eggman was deliberately controlling the Egg Moon to keep orbiting with the Earth in order to maintain the solar eclipse, and the Sunshine Balls were both a GetRichQuickScheme and a way to brainwash people into accepting him as their leader. His act is so convincing that even Decoe and Bocoe genuinely believe Eggman has actually reformed.
* FatBastard: He's a villain and rotund.
* FlawExploitation: He ''really'' enjoys taking advantage of Knuckles' SuperGullible nature.
* FriendlyEnemy: Has moments in the anime with Sonic, exaggerated in the comics. People rarely bat an eyelash at him and his mooks appearing at a pool party.
* {{Gonk}}: Looks more cartoony than most of the humans in the show.
* HarmlessVillain: Increasingly so as the series goes on.
* HeelFaceTurn: Has a very brief one in the comics due to [[BecomingTheMask taking to his profession]] as popular wrestler, El Gran Gordo.
* ImStandingRightHere: To the point of a RunningGag, Decoe, Bocoe, and occasionally Bokkun have a habit of talking smack about him or his other creations literally behind his back. For example, [[RightBehindMe guess where Eggman is]] during this exchange:
--> '''Bocoe''': Aren't all strategies strategic?
--> '''Decoe''': Not Dr. Eggman's. His strategies lack strategy the way his tactics lack tact.
--> '''Bokkun''': And his thinking lacks thought.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In general, whenever Eggman shows a softer side or does a "good" deed, it's nothing more than a cover-up for his own selfish purposes or {{Evil Plan}}s. Best shown in the Egg Moon saga, where he rebuilds the destroyed half of the moon with robotics, and when it seemingly malfunctions and causes a permanent solar eclipse, he produces Sunshine Balls to solve the problem of a world without sunlight, winning public support and convincing everyone [[OnlySaneMan but Sonic]] he's changed for the better. As it turns out, there was no malfunction; Eggman himself was controlling the Egg Moon to keep blocking the sun so he could sell the Sunshine Balls, which doubled as {{Hypno Trinket}}s, as a GetRichQuickScheme and to brainwash the people of Earth into loving him.
* LargeHam: It's Dr. Eggman we're talking about, of course there's going to be some [[ChewingTheScenery scenery chewing]] from him.
* ManChild: He does tend to have some childish moments in the show, but this trope is PlayedForLaughs.
* NotMeThisTime: Double subverted. When Chris accuses him of stopping time to get Sonic sent back to his dimension, Eggman quips that it's "not a bad plan" and makes a SarcasticConfession. When Chris insists that he's serious, Eggman drops the act.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: This childlike, not so evil, lovable goofball is the one who kidnapped Chris, caused genocide against an army, nearly killed Amy, and blew up the half of the moon!!!
* NominalHero: In season 3, he joins forces with Team Sonic to save the world from the Metarex so he can conquer it and to prove that he can be just as much of a threat as Sonic.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: In the 3rd season he actually saves Sonic's life one few accessions.
* OpportunisticBastard: His first reaction upon arriving on Earth is to simply decide to conquer it if he can't conquer Sonic's world. Near the end of Season 1, after tricking Knuckles into giving him the rest of the Chaos Emeralds, he flat-out admits that he only cares about establishing the Eggman Empire; whether he does so on Sonic's world or Earth makes no difference.
* PaperThinDisguise: Utilizes these a fair few times in the comics, most notably with El Gran Gordo. Only Sonic tends to see through them.
* PetTheDog: When using a mech powered by the Chaos Emeralds to inflict a CurbStompBattle on Sonic, Eggman, more so in the Japanese version, actually expresses concern for Sonic's safety.
** After his below mentioned TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Chris, he actually shows regret for how much he hurt him.
** In the finale even he doesn't like the thought of needing to kill Cosmo.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Delivers an awesome one to Chris near the end of season 2 when Chris accuses him of freezing time just to get rid of Sonic.
--> English version: "You're the one who's lying to ''yourself''. You don't wanna accept the truth. Deep down, you know that once Sonic is gone, your life will have to go back to the way it was before. Your days of adventure are at an end, boy, just like your friendship with that hyper-annoying hedgehog. All your dreams have been shattered, haven't they? Life is like that, kiddo. Take it from somebody who knows! Whenever you reach too high, life smacks you down. But on the ''bright'' side, at least you and I won't have to see each other ever again."
--> Japanese version: "How long are you going to act like a spoiled child, you fool?! Since you and Sonic always interfered with my plans together, I thought you were a little tougher I was wrong. You always rely on others and blame other people. If you think you can get away with that forever, you're wrong! You only want to be with Sonic? That may be enough for you. However, if that's all you care about, you'll always be small-time. Can't you understand that?! Go home. And don't ever come back"
* RedemptionPromotion: When he's not a villain in the 3rd season, he's much more competent. And then there's his El Gran Gordo alias in the comics...
* {{Sadist}}: PlayedWith. He often abuses Bokkun (and is justified to be responsible for Bookun's mood swings), Decoe and Bocoe when he's bored, and has no hesitation in injuring Sonic with a smile on his face. However, he finds the idea of torture horrid and during the first season finale, when his robot went haywire in the battle with Sonic and begins to brutally beat him, Chris begs him to stop the robot and Eggman ''actually tries to stop it.''
* SpannerInTheWorks: He hacks into a government database and finds information about his grandfather. This causes an investigation by the government and discovers a conspiracy trying to hide Project Shadow which wouldn't have been discovered if he hadn't brought attention to it via his data theft.
* StoutStrength: Once beat up a bunch of crocodiles and broke a mechanical laser turret with his ''bare fist''. In an issue of the comic he actually ''wrestles Sonic in hand to hand combat'', and holds his ground for a while.
* TerribleTrio: With Decoe and Bocoe.
* VictoryIsBoring: Becomes an AntagonistInMourning and cries out for Sonic's attention when he doesn't return to their home planet with the rest.
* VillainDecay: [[ZigZaggingTrope Zig-Zagges]] depending on the episode/arc in Seasons 1 & 2/Series 1. For his first evil plan he levels almost all of Station Square, but afterwards, he kinda becomes more of a joke. He still does have his menacing and threatening moments like the two-parters for the end of the New World and Chaos Emerald Sagas and when they adapted the Adventure Games, but he's more played for comedy and has a lot more [[AdaptationalDumbass moments that make him come off as incompetent]] (like him taking Sonic's bait to lure him out of Station Square and out to sea despite Bocoe and Decoe, his ''own robots'' asking him not to do that in Episode 15)
** Exaggerated in Season 3/Series 2, as with the Meterax taking his antagonist role, he largely got demoted to comic relief.
* VillainHasAPoint: His above mentioned TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Chris has him rightly point out that Chris is blaming him rather than accepting the truth. Likewise when Chris threatens to make Eggman confess his "plan" Eggman points out that without Sonic, all Chris can do is make empty threats.
-->'''Eggman''': What can one kid do? You'll probably end up crying and asking for Sonic
* VillainProtagonist: By the end of the comic's run, Eggman is practically the main character. Granted he held onto his "villain" role [[AntiVillain by a thread]] by that point. Has odd moments of this in the anime as well (he is at the very least more spotlighted than [[TheAce Sonic]]).
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: He manages to become one during the Egg Moon saga, claiming to [[FalselyReformedVillain have changed his ways]]. After rebuilding half of the moon with robotics, he also solves the problem of a seeming "malfunction" that caused a solar eclipse by making artificial Sunshine Balls. In reality, Eggman is deliberately controlling the Egg Moon to keep orbiting with the Earth in order to maintain the solar eclipse, and the Sunshine Balls are also emitting a brainwashing signal to force the citizens to turn on Sonic in favor of him; once he's found out, Eggman loses his good publicity and is promptly arrested and incarcerated.
* VillainousFriendship: Sort of with, Bokkun, Decoe, and Bocoe. He treats them like dirt, but he does care about them, and they seem to be the closest thing he has to friends. They're also nice to him, even after he mistreated them. Then again, his treatment of them is mostly PlayedForLaughs, as well as it's apart of his "evil" facade, and he actually takes care of them to an extent.
* VillainsOutShopping: There are a few episodes where Eggman takes a break from trying to TakeOverTheWorld, to just stay inside of his lair, and spend time with his minions, Decoe and Bocoe, and in one episode he also cooked food to Bokkun, though he wasn't very good at it.
* WorthyOpponent: Views Sonic as this (even if a lot of their bouts are [[HarmlessVillain mostly]] [[InvincibleHero one sided]]). His life becomes empty without Sonic around to spar with, and frequently teams up with him when another antagonist endangers them both.

Dr. Eggman's robotic assistants. Decoe is the tall gold one, and Bocoe is the short silver one. Though they originally start out as background characters, they eventually get more direct screentime, lines, and developed personalities. Unlike many incarnations of Eggman's minions, these two don't usually confront Sonic and Co. directly, but rather personally assist Dr. Eggman, usually in whatever base / flying fortress he's currently operating.
-------
* AffablyEvil: They just seem to follow the orders of their creator, Dr. Eggman. Whenever they're not busy helping him, they're usually seen engaging in peaceful activities, such as daintily drinking tea. When they temporarily run away from Eggman, they live at Chris's house and prove to be very helpful and friendly.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Unlike Dr. Eggman's lackies in previous animated shows, who were typically a BumblingHenchmenDuo, Decoe and Bocoe are generally competent and able to follow out their creator's orders, and show more insight than the Doctor quite a few times. For instance, they are put in charge of defending Eggman's island base when G.U.N. decides to attack it, and put up quite a fight against the navy and the air force. They are only sent packing when Dr. Eggman confronts and fails to stop a special strike force.
* CanonForeigner: Decoe and Bocoe have no game counterparts, and were roughly based on [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog Scratch and Grounder]] in terms of giving Eggman robotic minions. Eggman would receive a duo of minions in [[VideoGame/SonicColors Orbot and Cubot]] years after ''Sonic X'' ended, but they are not like Decoe and Becoe.
* CombiningMecha: They ''claim'' to be able to do this in one episode, which turns out to be imaginary. In reality, they can combine to turn into a cannon that's capable of busting open a jail cell.
* DeadpanSnarker: Both of them, [[ServileSnarker especially towards Dr. Eggman]]. They make fun of everything from his weight to the ridiculousness of his plans, sometimes [[ImStandingRightHere within]] [[RightBehindMe earshot]].
* {{Expy}}: Personality-wise, to [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog Scratch and Grounder]]. Appearance-wise, to [[http://info.sonicretro.org/images/thumb/5/55/Omega_and_Epsilon_%28%E7%B7%8A%E6%80%A5%E7%99%BA%E9%80%B2%E3%82%BB%E3%82%A4%E3%83%90%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AD%E3%83%83%E3%82%BA%29.jpg/300px-Omega_and_Epsilon_%28%E7%B7%8A%E6%80%A5%E7%99%BA%E9%80%B2%E3%82%BB%E3%82%A4%E3%83%90%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AD%E3%83%83%E3%82%BA%29.jpg Omega and Epsilon]] (from an anime called ''Rescue kids''. Also, Epsilon and Decoe [[ActorAllusion even share]] the same Japanese voice actor!).
* FatAndSkinny: Decoe is the slim one, while Bocoe is the fat one.
* HeelFaceTurn: Briefly became butlers to Chris when Eggman treated them poorly and the heroes treated them kindly. [[HeelFaceRevolvingDoor It only lasted two episodes, however]].
* GuiltRiddenAccomplice: They sometimes feel bad for assisting Eggman in some of his more callous acts. They briefly turn sides when he kidnaps Chris after he bothered to rescue them.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: They're not exactly menacing or competent.
* MeaningfulName: Their names are derived from the Japanese term "dekoboko", which means unevenness or bumpiness, befitting their bumbling nature. They even have the component kanji for the phrase on their chests.
* MechaMooks: They're both mechanical henchmen to Eggman.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Despite being Eggman's henchmen, they're not particularly malicious.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Eggman's BadBoss tendencies get worse over the second season, but the final straw for Decoe and Bocoe is when he refuses to thank Chris for [[ItMakesSenseInContext rescuing them from a]] {{Kaiju}}, and then abandons the three of them to be killed by an erupting volcano.
* NoIndoorVoice: Bocoe shouts everything in the original Japanese.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Inverted. Decoe is a villain, but a rather harmless MinionWithAnFInEvil for the most part.
* ReusedCharacterDesign: Their designs are based off the robot characters Omega and Epsilon, from a previous TMS Entertainment production called ''Kinkyū Hasshin Saver Kids''.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobots: They seem more human compared to other robots. They have humanized emotions, goofiness, and aren't waterproof.
* SissyVillain: The two display rather effeminate and whiny habits at times, and tend to be more efficient as butlers and technical assistance for Eggman rather than any physical work.
* VocalEvolution: The two bots are voiced in a stiff RoboSpeak in early episodes of the English dub. Throughout the first season, while their overall pitch and synthetics remain largely the same, they gradually fluctuate into emotional human-like acting similar to their Japanese voices.

Eggman's childlike Messenger Robo.
-----
* AffablyEvil: He's usually extremely cheerful, and his name-callings are rather used in a playful manner half of the time he's not angered.
* AmbiguousRobots: Supposedly a robot like Decoe and Bocoe, but has a crush on Cream, is shown to be able to [[EatingMachine eat and drink]], and generally appears more organic than his counterparts.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Essentially how Decoe and Bocoe view Bokkun. For his part, Bokkun has ratted out Decoe and Bocoe to Dr. Eggman several times when they mention something unflattering towards him.
* ButtMonkey: He is driven to tears by Eggman's treatment of him on multiple occasions. At one point in the ''Adventure'' arc, Eggman orders him to stay by the missile he's just fired into Station Square and count down to its detonation, fully aware that Bokkun will be blown up by it.
* CanonForeigner: Bokkun has no counterpart in the video games, and seems to be [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog based on Coconuts' role]] as the third robotic minion.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: His kicks are surprisingly good.
* CheerfulChild: Even if he does like to blow messages up in people's faces.
* CatchPhrase: ... has got a message for you!
* DarkSecret: His [[PuppyLove crush]] on [[{{Kawaiiko}} Cream]], which Rouge uses to blackmail him in season 3.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog Coconuts]]. He is the unofficial third member of the BumblingHenchmenDuo.
* {{Keet}}: Programmed with the personality of a rambunctious child.
* MadBomber: Often sends explosive video messages from Eggman to the heroes.
* ThePollyanna: Bokkun is this in spades due to his rambunctious and lively attitude.
* StuffBlowingUp: The messages he delivers. Other characters catch onto this and get nervous when he shows up.
* SweetTooth: He gets distracted by Ella's sweets.
* {{Troll}}: He constantly laughs at other people’s misfortune.

[[folder:E-Series]]
%%zce* ArrogantKungFuGirl: E-91 Lady Ninja, from what brief sentience she shows.
* AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever: E-99 Egg Emperor.
* CanonForeigner: With a couple of exceptions, most of the E-Series robots are original characters for the ''Sonic X'' anime.
* DubNameChange: E-99 Egg Emperor is renamed "the Eggsterminator" in the dub, due to sharing its name with the penultimate boss of ''VideoGame/SonicHeroes'', which it looks nothing like.
* GratuitousGreek: Joked about regarding the E-100 series: "As far as their names go, it's all Greek to me".
* TheFool: Pretty much [[MeaningfulName E-77 Lucky's]] premise.
* KnightOfCerebus: E-99, with the fight being one of the few moments in the series where Sonic dying is presented as a possibility.
* LightningBruiser: E-99, with the Chaos Emeralds powering it (we don't see it fight much without them). It moves so fast that not even Sonic can keep up with it.
* HumongousMecha: Some of them are big enough to qualify.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Some of the E-Series are more loyal drones than evil, while some such as Gamma and Lucky turn out to be rather benevolent when not under Eggman's control.
* MonsterOfTheWeek: The recurring plotline of the first season was for Eggman to send in one of his robots to cause chaos each episode.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:E-100 Alpha "ZERO"]] is not destroyed in the anime. He is last seen comically knocked out by Amy.

----
* CoDragons: Briefly acts as one alongside Chaos to Eggman, following his brother's "demotion".
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Dies fighting Theta.]]
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: Gamma is a robot, so most of his "evil" actions owe to following Eggman's orders. As he gains emotions, he becomes increasingly empathetic [[spoiler:and ultimately turns sides]].
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: To Eggman, initially. Directly lamented in the Japanese edit.
-->'''Sonic:''' You want to fight.\
'''Gamma:''' It is Eggman-sama's orders.
* ObiWanMoment: [[spoiler:Given he's a robot, it's mostly a given. However, he specifically states his happiness about Beta's bird coming out safe before shutting down in the original Japanese version.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''E-102 Gamma:''' Gamma; Mission Complete...]]
* RoboSpeak: In both dubs, in contrast to his MachineMonotone in the games versions. Oddly, the English dub also significantly pitches up his voice, almost to the point of HeliumSpeech.
* RobotBuddy: With Amy, even more so than in the game's story. Makes it all the more heartbreaking when she's actually there to witness [[spoiler:Gamma's destruction]].
* ShesAManInJapan: For unknown reasons, Gamma was referred to as female in the Dutch dub, to the extent that Amy solely referred to Gamma as 'Miss Robot'. The gender change may be a nod to Gamma's pink flicky (which is also referred to as Lily's sister in the English dub).

[[folder:Tikal]]
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaoriAsoh (JP), Creator/RebeccaHonig (EN) [[labelnote:'''Other Languages''']]Loreto Araya (Latin American Spanish)[[/labelnote]]

The daughter of Pachacamac, leader of the Knuckles's clan. She is a sweet girl that sealed Chaos alongside herself in the Master Emerald.

Her appearance mirrors her ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' counterpart.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: Tikal is a pacifist in both ''Adventure'' and its anime adaptation. The comic has her being able to fight, and in her words, "I was taught by the tribe's elders."
* AscendedExtra: Tikal appears in issues 5 and 6 of the ''ComicBook/SonicX'' comic alongside Chaos. In it, she returns to help Knuckles save Station Square from Eggman's plan involving Dark Chao.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Chaos]]
* DubNameChange: In the Latin American dub, he is renamed from Chaos to Caos, a literal translation.

A kindhearted fishercat who lives in Mystic Ruins with his frog best friend, Froggy.
----
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Big doesn't appear after his original role in the ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' adaptation. He does briefly appear in the ''Sonic Battle'' adaptation fighting Ella, but this scene is cut in the Creator/FourKidsEntertainment version.
* DubNameChange:
** Averted, he is one of the few Sonic characters from his world to retain his original name in the Latin American dub. Big does say his name means "grande" there. Froggy retains his name as well.
** Played straight in the French dub, where he was renamed "Bleu" (the French word for "Blue").
* EarlyBirdCameo: Big appears in the first episode, fishing close to Eggman's base. The episode gave the impression he too was sent to the human world, but he doesn't appear until a second Chaos Control sends more of Sonic's world to Earth.
