* AwesomeArt: The art and animation are of very high quality, ''especially'' during the figure skating scenes. It helps that the figure skating routines in this anime were choreographed by [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenji_Miyamoto_(figure_skater) Kenji Miyamoto]], a former ice dancer who is now a choreographer and coach.

* MentorShip: Pretty much out of the starting gate with Viktor/Katsuki and Viktor/Plisenky.

* BrokenBase: In regards to the fanservice. Half the viewers are more than okay with it and treat it as an extra treat that doesn't distract from the story. The other half are frustrated with it (no, [[StupidSexyFlanders not that way]]) and state that it detracts from the overall plot of the show. Basically it comes down to two fronts-- those who originally came for the CastFullOfPrettyBoys, and those who originally came to watch an ice skating sports anime.

** Episode 2 continues the trend, with Viktor decides to ask Yuuri about himself... while touching his chin, brushing his hand against his own, and leaning in close to him while sensual mood music plays in the background. Yuri also find himself blushing later on, but chalks it up to not being used to his idol living and training with him.

** The second PV for the anime had a [[TheStinger Stinger]] where Yuri talks to Viktor. When the audience gets to see them talk, we see that Viktor's face is ''deathly'' close to Katsuki's, and his thumb is dragging down on a blushing Katsuki's bottom lip.

* TheWoobie: It's really hard not to feel bad for Yuri Katsuki in the beginning of the show. He already tells the audience that he's made it dead last in all of the major competitions that he's been in for the season, and he's clearly not happy about it. By the time we first meet Yuri, he's lost a bit of his passion in ice skating.

** The ending animation has a lot of very intimate moments between Yuuri and Viktor, including Viktor bringing Yuuri through a festival - something very couple-like -- showering together near the beach and ultimately, Viktor brushing Yuuri's hair in a very intimate setting --Yuuri's bedroom at night, with only a candle as light.
