** Advertising/SegataSanshiro received some bad heat for defeating Red ''and'' getting the Casuals belt, considering that one, Red was doing incredibly well (as usual for the time) throughout the match until he botched one high-flying move (that he managed to pull off on Segata four times earlier in the match) which Segata dodged and took advantage of and two, this denied Red of his eighth "badge" and his guaranteed title shot for the main VGCW Championship belt. About half of the chat exploded in anger after the match ended, as if the old Sega-Nintendo UsefulNotes/ConsoleWars were reignited. [[http://vgcw.wikia.com/wiki/File:Poster.png This poster shows some the anger.]] As Segeta's reign went on, the chat was split between cheering and booing Segata since that he had held the belt for a while now until he was defeated by Dracula, but hasn't defended the belt as much as Red.[[note]]As in, he had had less title defenses than Red ; he defended the belt in only five title matches, compared with six (five of them consecutive) overall for Red.[[/note]] The only thing that fans unanimously like about Sanshiro is that when he wrestles, [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic "Angels with Burning Hearts"]] from ''VideoGame/BurningRangers'' may be played during the match. He has had a resurgence from this, with the RunningGag of Bowser trying to get revenge on Ebisumaru ending up pissing off Segata and recieving a beatdown, [[spoiler: as well as making Guile tap out.]]

** Another EDBW graduate that's highly popular in VGCW is [[VideoGame/Persona4 Kanji Tatsumi]], thanks to his SugarWiki/{{awesome|Music}} [[SomethingSomethingLeonardBernstein (if unintelligible)]] entrance theme '''''(RISE UP!)''''' and excellent in-ring work. His matches with VGCW Champion [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Sabin Rene Figaro]] and [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]] are particularly well-regarded[[spoiler:; even though he lost both of them, he put up one hell of a fight]].

** [[WebVideo/TwoBestFriendsPlay Zubaz]] had the pleasure of being the ''second straight'' Star Road winner that had plenty of people angry and salty. Most anger seem to stem from the fact that he was originally an concept character for [[VideoGame/StreetFighterII Street Fighter 2]] turned into an in-joke from the [[WebVideo/TwoBestFriendsPlay Two Best Friends]], that got pushed into the limelight when they backed games such as [[VideoGame/ShovelKnight Shovel Knight]] and {{Divekick}} to include him in as a character. Not only that, but he's also relatively obscure. Zubaz, however, didn't have the same repertoire of salt that Illidan had; in fact he had some great matches where he got beat hard at first, then came back to win vs Mr. Torgue from Borderlands and [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid Revolver Ocelot]]. He also won against [[VideoGame/AsurasWrath Asura]], who had been tearing through the bracket with a series of [[SquashMatch squash matches against favorites]] like [[{{VideoGame/Persona 4}} Kanji]]. However, some might argue that The Baz won by no-selling finishers anyway, so he's a bad wrestler. Not even mentioning the fact that he got in instead of some favorites to win the whole thing. However, his gimmick of not being recognized by anyone has earned him some fans.

** The same seems to have happened to Duke's former tag partner [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Guile]]. Prior to his heel turn at End Game 6, Guile's only major accomplishment had been a brief run as Casual Champion and was considered by some to be bland and generic compared to the more popular Duke to the point where fans on the forums openly expressed possibly cutting Guile from the roster, which was [[RealLifeWritesThePlot worked into the plot as the catalyst for his heel turn]]. Throughout Season 7, Guile went on the warpath in order to prove he's better than Duke, first by defeating [[VideoGame/{{Mother3}} Flint]] in a show-stealing opening match and then squashing then VGCW champion [[VideoGame/MegaManClassic Proto Man]] in a non-title match. Finally at End Game 7, Guile not only [[spoiler: defeated both Duke and Ganon]] in a Hell in a Cell triple threat match, but it was revealed [[spoiler: ''he'' was the one behind the Ring Ranger invasion, cementing him as one of, if not THE, top heels on the roster.]]

** [[VideoGame/StreetFighter Dan]] (pre-P.R.A.T.S.) and [[VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry Donte]]. Dan was hated for unceremoniously winning a Royal Rumble by throwing out Ash Ketchum, who had won the crowd over by putting up one hell of a fight that night. [[FanNickname Donte]], on the other hand, was hated for being the version of [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Dante]] that came from the much-maligned reboot. The chat had a conniption fit when he [[spoiler:won a match against his more well-received counterpart.]]

** In the WVGCW, [[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros Daisy]] was this, between her penchant for absorbing punishments, 11th hour comebacks, and the kicker, [[spoiler:defeating fan-favorite [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI Terra Branford]] to win the finals of the #1 Contender Tournament.]] Many in the chat have compared her unglowingly to Wrestling/JohnCena for these reasons. However, since then, Daisy's been losing more than winning, ending this.

** After the title character's exploits in ''VGCW'', the series has been referenced via an event poster in ''VideoGame/{{Octodad}}: Dadliest Catch''.
** Within the female division, there's Chie adopting the "Steak Cold" gimmick for a short time in Season 3, complete with Steve Austin's entrance music, and Mama's using Wrestling/TheRock's "IF YOU SMELL..." line at the beginning of her entrance, both after the chat referenced the respective WWE wrestlers in other matches.

*** Shortly afterwards came [[ShipTease hints of a relationship]] between [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII Lightning]] & [[Franchise/AceAttorney Dick Gumshoe]], as the pair would often be seen together when it came to investigating, and Lightning showing signs of interest towards Gumshoe...until [[ShipSinking Gumshoe's work was done and left]] to continue his own line of work, and advised Lightning to patch up her relationship with her tag team partner.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: Haggar's sudden FaceHeelTurn into becoming one of Groose's lackeys was revealed in Season 11 to be the result of [[spoiler: amnesia caused by the Ring Rangers ambush of him way back in Season 7.]]

** It is not uncommon for a rollup pin to be reversed... and reversed... and reversed again, over and over, until the rollup breaks or someone reaches the three count. This is referred to by the fans as an "Obamaroll" due to a particularly infamous example in a match between UsefulNotes/BarackObama and [[Franchise/StreetFighter Guile]], and is typically announced in chat with cries of [[{{Memes/Politics}} "THANKS OBAMA"]]. In the ''Female Division'', fans will refer to First Lady Michelle Obama instead. UsefulNotes/VladimirPutin was also referenced in this way when [[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 The Heavy]] got caught in one of these sequences.

** ''VGCW: Female Division'' is also frequently referred to as the convoluted acronym, ''WVGCW'', a shorthand for ''[[DistaffCounterpart Women's]] Video Game Championship Wrestling''. As of Season 7 however, [[AscendedFanon WVGCW has become the official name for the show]].

** The end of Season 10 paid tribute to ''VideoGame/{{Earthbound}}'', where the OmnicidalManiac BigBad [[spoiler: was ultimately felled by the prayers of everyone in the cast.]] Satoru Iwata, who was heavily involved in ''Earthbound'''s coding, died just before Season 11 started, which adds a layer of poignancy to Season 10's conclusion.

** Starting from Season 8, Ezio was seen as this by the fans. Desperate to catch up after fellow midcard breakouts Scorpion and Captain Falcon, Ezio challenged the Angry Video Game Nerd at the season debut and came close to winning but lost to a reversed finisher. He later fought the Nerd in a rematch and came up short again. Then he issued an open challenge to Little Mac and again put up a great fight but due to the game mechanics, couldn't get Mac in a position to land his Eagle Dive finisher and lost. ''Then'', he entered the Season 8 Royal Rumble at #38, eliminating Gaben and lasting to the final three... only to be eliminated by [[VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} Ness]], who later went on to win the Rumble. ''Then'', [[HopeSpot he got voted into the Chamber of Elimination match by the fans]], got squashed by Ganon in the Beat the Clock challenge to determine who would start the match, and in the actual Chamber, got eliminated first, in about 5 minutes. And yet despite all these setbacks, Ezio still [[IronWoobie soldiered]] [[{{Determinator}} on]]. After stepping it up however, this seems to have changed.

** To those who liked [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory Woody]] despite his bizarre appearance, he counts as this. Woody just wanted more people to play with their toys. In the end, frustrated that no one would play with him, Woody gets turned by Dracula into an [[WoobieDestroyerofWorlds uncontrollable beast]], and ends up getting put down by [[VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG Geno]].

* UncannyValley: Some of the wrestlers in VGCW look rather disturbing. Word is that the reason VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog disappeared the first time around was because Baz didn't like how he looked. Then there's [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory Woody]], who was just plain NightmareFuel, especially at the end of his career.

** To those who liked [[WesternAnimation/ToyStory Woody]] despite his [[UncannyValley bizarre appearance]], he counts as this. Woody just wanted more people to play with their toys.
