* LoveItOrHateIt: Valvrave has genuine fans that see the show (or at least the first season) as legitimately good, and and an almost equal amount of people that hated the show (as the rest of this page will show you). What side you're comes down to how much you liked what Valvrarve was doing to distance itself from the trends of its contemporary mecha anime.

* MaryTzu:
** L-Elf thinks 5 steps ahead of his opposition at all times, to the point where the fans originally thought he was actually [[AWizardDidIt using some kind of magic]].
** Cain Dressel, L-Elf's former commanding officer and teacher, manages to take it even further however, as he manages to repeatedly one-up L-Elf like it was the most natural thing in the world. [[spoiler: Turns out he actually has space magic, but not the kind that works when it comes to tactical decisions.]]

** The students' final solution to holding off ARUS and Dorssia (independence now!) is one thing, but then you have the Valvrave ''seperating their part of the country'' much like an old cartoon [[LooneyTunes with Bugs Bunny, a saw and Florida.]]

** Don't forget about the second ending theme, [[http://soundcloud.com/esteban-salazar-7/soba-ni-iru-yo "Soba ni Iru yo"]] by ELISA.

** Momoko Kanade gives another with the second ending theme of Season 2, [[https://soundcloud.com/claukanon2212/akai-memories-wo-anata-ni "Akai Memories wo Anata ni"]].

** The openings, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zynxSanDBzg "Preserved Roses"]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNE93dieQF4 "Kakumei Dualism"]], are two of the best openings of the season. But then again, what else do you expect with two duet between TMRevolution '''AND''' NanaMizuki?

* SecondSeasonDownfall: More of a first season downfall, but WordOfGod once confirmed that they wanted this series to go on for many seasons. However, due to how controversial the first season was, the series took a massive hit rating-wise, and had to conclude much earlier than was originally planned when the season season came around.

** Did you ship Haruto and Saki? [[spoiler: Pino takes over Haruto's body and uses it to rape Saki, causing people to [[AbandonShipping abandon the ship]] en masse due to UnfortunateImplications]]. The surprising/sad thing is that people have actually been ''returning'' to this ship in season two due to the previous mentioned problems regarding the Haruto and Shoko shipping.

* UnfortunateImplications:
** During the power crisis, the male students band together and manage to resolve the crisis on their own, while the female students huddle in a classroom and start blaming each other over how they got into this predicament, to the point of physical assault and almost starting a fight between the girls.
** The harsh, imperialistic, presumably totalitarian empire that is not above the use of {{Child Soldier}}s seems to be a lot more powerful than the group of nation states that came together under a mutual goal of achieving economic prosperity through cooperation that also grants their citizens a much larger degree of personal freedom.
*** [[FridgeBrilliance Well an imperialistic empire is generally able to amass a large military much easier due to not having to care about things like personal freedom or individual needs, and can just devote its budget into armstech.]]
** When Haruto loses control of himself near Takahi, Saki tries to make it seem like he was merely coming onto her. [[SlutShaming She then says that it was Takahi's fault for wearing a revealing cheerleading outfit.]]
** Episode 11 has come under a lot of fire for this, in that [[spoiler: some believe it completely skirted around the issue of Saki having been raped by a possessed Haruto in the previous episode]]. Given how the subject is usually treated ''very'' seriously in the real world, especially by the victim, they felt it was merely used here as a cheap source of drama, which was promptly swept under the rug after having served its purpose of eliciting a strong reaction.
** Many fans are interpreting the series as an idealized, alternate version of WWII in which Japan (JIOR) was an innocent nation caught between two corrupt giants. Except for, you know, how in history the nation of Japan sided with the Axis, the leader of whom was enacting a genocide, and members of the Japanese army committed many horrific crimes against the people of China, and Fiji, and upon the citizens of Hawaii.
*** This isn't the first time [[GundamSEED an anime]] featured a supposedly neutral country representing an idealized version of Japan that was attacked by a foreign aggressor.
** By the end of the finale, [[spoiler: [[MenAreTheExpendableGender all of the male Valvrave pilots die]] while all of the female pilots except for one survive.]]

** The death of [[spoiler:Haruto also got this.]] While some found the scene was well done, others saw it as unnecessary or just a cheap excuse to give the viewer a sad moment considering [[spoiler:Marie had previously survived to losing all her memories once. Not to mention the fact it his story sad as he never made up with Shoko, achieved his dreams of coexisting and his biggest fear of Shoko being cursed became true.]]
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Pretty much the entire show goes so far in its ridiculousness and absurdity that it slides right back to understandable.
* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Some viewers are finding it increasingly hard to care about the series because the majority of characters are either {{Complete Monster}}s, {{Jerk Ass}}es, TooDumbToLive or is TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth. Not to the mention the episode where [[spoiler:the majority of the Module 77 students are massacred]] essentially turns the series into a ShaggyDogStory, and the 200 year timeskip shows certain characters' survival as a ForegoneConclusion.

* PlotTumor: The flashforwards have gotten really negative response for not adding anything to the plot or even explaining what exactly is the setting. The finale's most common criticism is its rushed ending which jumped from a sad scene to the future completely skipping the [[spoiler:characters' reaction to the Magius' revelation, the JIOR students accepting their mistake when selling out the Valvrave pilot or the reactions people had to Haruto's death. Not to mention the fact the identity of the Prince was never explained.]]

* DesignatedProtagonistSyndrome: Haruto is a fairly normal character without any outstanding quirks and fairly unpopular because of it.

* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing : The fandom's response [[spoiler: Q-vier getting killed in the finale]]

** The openings, ''[[http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Preserved+Roses/6BHytq?src=5 Preserved Roses]]'' and ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T95C-wKw3E Revolution Dualism]]'', are two of the best openings of the season. But then again, what else do you expect with two duet between TMRevolution '''AND''' NanaMizuki?
** There's also the first ending theme ''[[http://soundcloud.com/hafifi94/angela-boku-janai Boku Janai]]'' by {{Angela}}. [[spoiler: It comes back as an insert song for the season finale.]]
** Don't forget about the second ending theme, ''[[http://soundcloud.com/esteban-salazar-7/soba-ni-iru-yo Soba ni Iru yo]]'' by ELISA.
** We get another one in Episode 6, ''Can You Save My Heart?'' by Momoko Kanade, which starts playing during [[spoiler:Saki's CrowningMomentOfAwesome]].
** ''Mother Land'' by Yuuka Nanri. It was first heard at the end of Episode 8, but it truly gained this status in Episode 21, really adding to the emotion of [[spoiler:Kyuma's HeroicSacrifice]].

* BetterThanCanon: The light novel offers a better closure to the most controversial parts from the anime's second season [[http://pastebin.com/hJaPCJqD Just check this]]

** Also, most of the {{Nice Guy}}s are [[TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth killed off]] except for one.

** While not as popular as [[ChildhoodFriendRomance Shoko x Haruto]], Shoko x L-Elf, or [[HoYay Haruto x L-Elf]], quite a few fans shipped Saki and Haruto in the first nine-and-a-half episodes of the 1st season. As soon as [[spoiler:[[WhamEpisode Episode]] [[RapeAsDrama 10]]]] finished airing, however, some fans started avoiding this ship like the plague...or at least until the next week's episode came around. And by season two, most have returned to this shipping due to later problems concerning the Shoko x Haruto shipping, and L-Elf gaining a much more popular alternative ship with Liesellote.

* EnsembleDarkhorse[=/=]EvilIsCool:
** Cain as of Episodes 11 and 12 has become one of the most popular characters in the series particularly for being the first person to genuinely outsmart L-Elf in combat. The ongoing mystery regarding what the hell his character is, [[spoiler:which turned out to be a fatherly ultra-{{Badass Normal}} who was possessed by a Magius]], also helped.

* DesignatedHero: L-Elf attempts to kill Haruto early in the series and later [[spoiler:shoots Marie in the face just to keep her from distracting Haruto]]. Its addressed in-universe and Haruto repeatedly calls him out on his shenanigans, making L-Elf a NominalHero.
** Is it addressed? Not really. He hardly gets a WhatTheHellHero
*** In episode 19 Haruto actually talks about L-Elf as if he admires him for his actions.

* PanderingToTheBase: The [[five most popular characterhttp://www.valvrave.com/special/#s7]] survived in the finale while the others aren't so lucky.

* PanderingToTheBase: This is just YMMV. However, first watch the finale and then [[this poll http://www.valvrave.com/special/#s7]]. The five most popular characters [[spoiler:survived while most of the not so popular got a bridge dropped on them.]] Coincidence? Take it as you will.

** By the end of the finale, [[spoiler: [[MenAreTheExpendableGender All of the male Valvrave pilots die]] while all of the female pilots except for one survive.]]

** Akira warrants a mention as well, [[spoiler:mainly due to her severe social anxiety, which was brought on by some horrendous past bullying]]. Later, episode 14 reveals that [[spoiler:the bullying came about as a result of being shamed and mistreated by '''everyone''' because she was guilty of hacking into the network of a prestigious school in order to obtain the questions for its entrance exam. It was a good-intentioned, but misguided attempt to help her brother gain passage into said school, as he was severely exhausted and nearing a mental breakdown from studying for the test, all thanks to the extreme pressure their parents were putting on him to get into the best school possible. The fact Satomi refused to acknowledge Akira had done this for his sake broke her, and then how he kept turning a blind eye to her bullying despite repeatedly reaching out to him for his help broke her even more.]]

* FanPreferredCouple: While at first Haruto X Shoko was popular, Haruto X Saki started taking over due the former having less interactions and going through ShipSinking. Then L-elf X Shoko was also popular but the revelation of his feelings for Lieselotte resulted in major shipping. Needless to say the series sank almost all ships. [[spoiler: ...with the exception of the student council members, [[BetaCouple Satomi X Takahi]], who got married in the epilogue.]]

* AlasPoorScrappy: [[spoiler:Q-vier dying in the finale.]]

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: All the way back in Episode 5, when Saki kisses Haruto, the Valvrave AI asks if they were having sex. [[spoiler:Guess what Haruto does to her when he's possessed by the Valvrave in Episode 10. [[MadnessMantra During the act, the AI spouts a continuous "SEX SEX SEX SEX..."]]]]

* GeniusBonus: The Jioran flag and the Valvrave actually seems to allude to the legend of Yatagarasu, as explained [[http://eruharu.tumblr.com/post/50844286799/valvrave-and-mythology here.]]
** Also, the name "Valvrave" seems to be a reference to the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valravn Valravn]] of Danish folklore.

* HoYay: Haruto and L-Elf ''in spades.'' In the first scene we have L-Elf's aparent obsession with getting Haruto to serve as his right hand. At the start of the second season, we have [[spoiler: L-Elf agreeing to become Haruto's main source of runes whenever he needs to bite someone, L-Elf's promise to "use him until he has nothing left" which refers to how Haruto will eventually run out of runes and become an empty shell, but could also be taken a very different way,]] and the ending includes a sequence in which they're both free-falling and attempting to grab hold of each other. There's also episode 22's infamous "Waifu Fight," the "promise" and [[spoiler: the fact L-Elf's main love interest has kicked the bucket, and how the prince from the future seems to have L-Elf's hair and Haruto's eyes.]]

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: [[spoiler:Haruto getting stabbed and shot to death in the stinger. You didn't ''really'' think he'd stay dead, did you?]]

* MoralEventHorizon: It's not hard to lose respect for the Valvrave's OS after Episode 10. [[spoiler:After all, the machine possessed Haruto and ultimately had him rape Saki, a girl who already went through enough in her life and, until that episode, was pining for the guy.]]

* TheScrappy: Q-Vier is one of the least liked characters, no doubt thanks to his lack of any sort of HiddenDepths compared to the other Karlstein Graduates and [[spoiler: his direct and/or indirect murders of Yamada, Aina, and Liselotte.]]

* SomethingCompletelyDifferent: People's impressions about this series change pretty often depending on the flow of events and the treatment of its different subject matters. While the first episode had a dark atmosphere, the following episodes kept a relatively light-hearted tone. Then Episode 7 came along and had someone [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal]], confusing some viewers about what the writers are trying to do.

* TooDumbToLive: Haruto, dear? The on switch was directly in front of you. Though considering what it was asking, normal people wouldn't press that button unless as a last resort. Which it was.
** Let's face it, ''everyone'' except possibly L-Elf, Cain, and X-Eins, have their share of TooDumbToLive moments in this show. (And L-Elf is dumb in other ways).

* WhatAnIdiot: Yeah, Saki, why ARE they locking Haruto up during their tests? I mean, it's not like he's tried to sexually assault anyone when he's been left unsupervised...OH WAIT.

* AwesomeMusic: The openings, ''[[http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Preserved+Roses/6BHytq?src=5 Preserved Roses]]'' and ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6T95C-wKw3E Revolution Dualism]]'', are two of the best openings of the season. But then again, what else do you expect with two duet between TMRevolution '''AND''' NanaMizuki?

* BaseBreaker: After Episode 6, reactions to Saki resulted in this due to a sequence of rash and selfish actions she takes such as abandoning her humanity without a second thought, manipulating Haruto so that she could take over his body and use his fame to boost her ''own'' fame, and leaping into the fray of battle only to get cold feet when she faced opponents who weren't easily to defeat. The outcome of her first solo fight did not help this. Afterwards, fan reaction split between those who consider her TheScrappy for the previous mentioned actions, and those who actually ''enjoyed'' watching this development unfold throughout the episode and grew to like her newly discovered character even more.
** The scene showing [[spoiler:a Valvrave controlled Haruto raping Saki]] has many fans divided on whether that scene was appropriate or not.
*** And the subsequent [[spoiler:handling of the "morning after"]] and [[spoiler:Haruto's marriage proposal]] is not going over well with people who expected a different treatment of the subject.

** The finale. While some found it fitting, the resolution has been felt too forced as it ignored all the negative consequences of the characters' actions such as [[spoiler:Haruto's death]] in favor of happy events. That's not even mentioning the lack of unresolved mysteries and the final scene.

** The final episode has a split of its own. Either people are satisfied with the conclusion, or it was a rush-job leaving too much unanswered that a third season of material was needed.
