[[spoiler:With the seventh Tea Party and [=EP8=] delving into [[SilentScapegoat the real nature of her relationship with Ange]], Eva has gained on her side many fans who sympathize with her situation compared to many other characters who fit into this trope, but even this can fall flat due to Eva's abusive treatment of young Ange in which she acted like she hated her, always compared her unfavorably to George, and never told her the truth about what happened to her family (including the fact that she really did set much of the tragedy off when she accidentally killed Natsuhi) and yet Ange ends up [[BlamingTheVictim being given the bulk of the blame for how sour her and Eva's relationship turned]], making it seem as though Eva was let off the hook for everything in spite of her [[SmugSnake bad personality]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish nature]. ** [[spoiler: Realizing the UnfortunateImplications of what Tohya Hachijo's (potentailly accidentally) implied death at the end of [=EP8=] would do to poor Ange, Ryukishi clarified in the final character profiles released in 2013 that he actually survived, which was made explicit by the manga adaptation two years later.]]

And even for some who were not rooting against Beato here, Erika's counter-strikes against her in order to incriminate Natsuhi in the court retroactively get this treatment after [[spoiler: Natsuhi confesses to the murder of the servant holding baby Sayo Yasuda, and attempted murder of Yasu themself, which lost people almost all sympathy for Natsuhi and made them feel like [[LaserGuidedKarma she was getting what she deserved.]]]]

** [[spoiler:Sayo Yasuda, and by extension Shannon, Kanon, and Beatrice]], whose issues seem to include pretending to be multiple people [[LostInCharacter to the point of almost becoming them]] and probable gender dysphoria, in addition to body dysmorphia caused by a horrific injury to their sexual organs that causes them to refer to themselves as "furniture" after finding out the truth about their origins ([[spoiler:mainly, the aforementioned rape of his own daughter by Kinzo]]).

** We are asked to feel some level of pity and compassion for Kinzo in [=EP7=] due to his DarkAndTroubledPast prior to becoming the Ushiromiya family head, how deeply he loved [[spoiler: his late mistress, Beatrice Castigloni]] and how much he wanted [[TheAtoner to atone]] for how he'd treated his deceased daughter. But for many, this is practically impossible not only for how horribly we'd seen Kinzo treated his still living family before now, but because this exact same arc reveals [[spoiler:that he'd become so infatuated with the resemblence that his secret teenage daughter had with her dead mother and so overcome with the delusion of her being her reincarnation that he [[ParentalIncest raped her and got her pregnant with a child]], [[{{Squick}} which would mean she gave birth to her own sibling since they'd share the same father.]] This revelation also makes Kinzo's EntitledToHaveYou attitude about Beatrice all the more disgusting and makes us very hard to feel any form of empathy for him. This is somewhat alievated in the manga where in the final arc, Kinzo acknowledges that he still had no good excuse for how he'd acted following his gravest sin, combined with all the women (especially Rosa, Eva and Natsuhi) around him that he had neglected and mistreated very badly, ruining his still living relations and allowed his own family to rot from the inside, [[KarmaHoudini he'd gone to his grave having not truly atoned for anything after all]], for which he is now truly, genuinely remorseful.]]

** [[spoiler:Sayo Yasuda and the whole story of both their real identity and that of their characters can lead to them falling into this trope, as basically everything of ''Umineko'' is based on a sort of emotional manipulation of Creator/Ryukishi07 aimed at bringing us to sympathize, pity and love the character that, although undeniably not without legitimate problems and reasons to hate Kinzo and his children, had been planning a family mass murder-suicide with the clear desire to also involve the people who loved their fictitious identities and who they loved in return. Sayo decided to bring it to fruition only because Battler, a boy they hadn't seen for 6 years, had understandably forgotten a stupid childish promise he made to them (and Sayo didn't even take into account that, just like them, Battler also had his own problems to solve). Not to mention the fact that with their false identities of the servant twins, they in turn decieved and two-timed the two people who had fallen in love with her, George and Jessica, and how they used Beatrice's identity to manipulate not only Maria's faith and dreams in magic and witches, but also largely exploited her pain and [[AbusiveMom Rosa's]] [[ParentalNeglect parental incapacities]] to make her an unwitting accomplice in their own plan. To top it off, in the role of Beatrice in the Meta-World, she decides that the best way to bring back to Battler the memory of what really happened on Rokkenjima is to subject him to real TraumaCongaLine matches in which she shows him scenarios with her and/or other magical beings torturing and killing both him and his entire family.]]

** Natushi is positioned as the protagonist of the game in [=EP5=] constantly proclaiming her goal to "uphold the Ushiromiya honor", and has to deal with several deaths (including her daughter and husband) that the newcomer Erika [[spoiler:proceeds to falsely pin on her.]] However, the crux of the game is her [[spoiler:hiding Kinzo's death to help Krauss' embezzlement, all the while hypocritically chastising Krauss' siblings as greedy for wanting Kinzo's inheritance to fix their own financial issues, and flying into a self-victimizing outrage whenever they start accurately guessing what she’s hiding. She also later admits to killing a servant and (seemingly) a baby out of frustration that she was tasked with raising the latter after Kinzo shamed her for failing to conceive her own child for years. It can be a bit hard to feel all that sorry for her even when Erika turns almost the entire family against her with false accusations, especially when her own stubborn refusal to admit Kinzo's death helps push her into into a corner.]]

Especially because of the remarkable local versatility with which she manages to pass from the seductive voice of a mature woman to that of a capricious brat in a few moments.

** To a similar extent, Creator/AmiKoshimizu also received much more than only one praise in being able to portray with her dubbing all the character facets of a very complex and controversial character like [[TroubledAbuser Rosa]] [[ParentalNeglect Ushiromiya]], emphasizing in particular how not only her many flaws and contradictory personality, but also the problems she faces daily (and which lead her to vent her frustrations on Maria) [[StrugglingSingleMother help her to practically embody a certain category of people who could easily be found even in reality]].

*** However, in defense of Rosa, it must also be added that many readers who easily come to despise her and hate her immensely are often tending to completely overlook on her numerous sympathetic and redemptive qualities ([[TheChainOfHarm such as the fact that she herself as a child had suffering abuses far worse than those to which she subjects Maria]], the fact that she is well aware that she is a failure mother and she sincerely wants to change for the better and make up for her flaws for her daughter' sake [[spoiler:or her enormous regret and guilt for accidentally causing Beatrice II's death]]), minimize on her problems as a StrugglingSingleMother (in the case of the purely Western community which is completely ignorant of how the Japanese social system is made up) and on the fact that the other adults and servants of the family (including [[NiceGuy Hideyoshi]]) are not morally better people than her and several of them; for example Kinzo, Eva, Genji, Kyrie and Rudolf, have decidedly more superficial and ridiculous motives than Rosa's which leads them to commit far worse crimes in the course of all games [[spoiler:([[WouldHurtAChild such as killing or even torturing Maria]] in Eva/EVA-Beatrice and Kyrie's case)]].

** It's also quite common and easy for many fans to despise Rosa in the first four arcs for her AbusiveParents tendencies towards Maria and her actions in [=EP2=] (which cease to come off as ProperlyParanoid especially when you realize [[spoiler:she was the killer's accomplice in that arc the whole time who wanted to throw suspicion onto everyone else and then let everyone die while she claimed the gold for herself]]). The latter four arcs in ''Chiru'', however, begins to finally set aside her worst traits in favor of showing her as a more sympathetic and regretful character with the whole truth of [[spoiler: her ill-fated romance with Maria's father, just how traumatized and guilt-ridden she felt about her part in the day of Beatrice Ushiromiya's death, the numerous and repeated abuse and trauma she suffered at the hands of those monsters of her father and her older siblings when she was just a kid like Maria, and how level-headed and reasonable she tried to be on the night of the Rokkenjima massacre prior to being shot dead by Kyrie]], and how much she loves her daughter and wants to make up for her failures as a mother is made clear in [=EP8=] (in a way that calls back to her [[MemeticBadass famed]] MamaBear LastStand with Maria in [=EP2=]), which brings many former haters around to her.

** Some fans really disliked Maria until the fourth arc, when she revealed one hell of a FreudianExcuse and got around to [[CallingTheOldManOut Calling The Old Woman Out]] in true ''Franchise/WhenTheyCry'' fashion [[spoiler:though calling Rosa out was most likely all in her head]].

** Genji's UndyingLoyalty towards Kinzo and later [[spoiler:Sayo]] too may seem at times very noble [[spoiler:were it not that this leads him to help Sayo keep his fictions afloat through blackmail and threats throughout the various games (even arriving to personally commit the murders)]]. [[spoiler:Not to mention the fact that years ago, after rescuing the baby with Nanjo's help and deciding to hide his survival from Kinzo after Natsuhi's attempt to kill him, Genji decided to raise him as a girl in an orphanage that basically existed as a factory aimed at providing with constant servants for Ushiromiya family, granting her considerable constant privileges despite her clumsiness and ignorance, than the other children there, which had the obvious consequence of leading the young Sayo to be bullied for much of her early childhood and adolescence.]]
