** Battler's theory about "small bombs" became a MemeticMutation in the fandom due to how ridiculous it was. What most fans didn't realize is that Battler didn't actually ''believe'' this theory; he was just desperately fishing for ways to counter Beatrice's claims that the murders were done by magic. That still doesn't stop some fans from bringing up "SMALL BOMBS" as a way to make fun of Battler's reasoning skills.

** Battler: Is his eventual LaserGuidedAmnesia a result of brain damage, survivor's guilt, the unwillingness to admit his own (albeit limited) responsibility in the Rokkenjima incident, or a combination of all the above?
** Beatrice: a heartless and sadistic murderer, or the savior of the Ushiromiya family's dignity, allowing their memory to be unsullied by the crimes committed in their two days on Rokkenjima by taking them all upon herself? Might be easier to figure out if she weren't voluntarily tripping through the FaceHeelRevolvingDoor at every turn.
*** This is what happens when a {{Tsundere}} goes too far.
*** Could also be a TricksterMentor, as the "Wind and the Sun" strategy of [=EP3=] seems to be an attempt to show Battler that he's way too trusting. With the "Wind", she wore down his refusal to suspect the people close to him, but with the "Sun" she got him to trust and sympathize with her. When Ange, then a complete stranger, appeared at the Golden Reception, Beato and Virgilia had no reason to start dribbling their VillainBall in front of him -- except to rub the point in.

** George: DoggedNiceGuy who has an enlightened view of the world through his years of experience, and who respects Shannon as a person, or a borderline-sexist who takes everything far more seriously than he should? ** At the end of [=EP7=], is Kyrie really so ruthless and cold that she would cast off any family for 1 billion, or is she simply keeping a cool facade to the threat from an emotionally distraught Eva?
*** Some fans from Eastern countries theorized that in [=EP7=], Kyrie's claim that she never loved Ange was actually a lie to trick Eva during their battle. This is because Eva had already killed Rudolph, so Kyrie could have guessed that she could get also killed by Eva; thus, no one would be left to protect Ange, and Eva might take revenge on Ange as well. Therefore, fans theorized she could have lied that she hated Ange to convince Eva that Ange had nothing to do with this conflict, and also convince Eva that Ange needed a mother to guide her. It's also possible that in her grief and madness at that point, Kyrie was lying to herself so that she may embrace death without any emotional attachments left. And in [=EP8=], there are moments where Kyrie shows she DOES cares for Ange, with the manga version even showing us when Ange was born and that both her parents did indeed love her very much.
** Like Kyrie, the manga takes a harsher interpretation of Kinzo's past, claiming that unlike the story he told, Kinzo ''himself'' was responsible for the military base massacre that killed everyone except for him and Beatrice. But even so, did he instigate the massacre because of his obsessive desire to keep Beatrice and the gold for himself, or was he motivated more by ruthless pragmatism since he could predict how the gold would corrupt the people on the base, and was simply trying to manipulate what he considered an inevitable disaster in his favor? There are a number of factors supporting such an interpretation, such as the fact that Kinzo's penchant for accurate predictions played a key role in his business success, the fact that he had no real reason to lie to Willard when discussing his past (indicating that his own role in the massacre may have been a minor footnote to him rather than a dark secret), and finally, his characterization in [=EP8=], which showed that he was capable of being a kind and loving man despite his later descent into abusive behavior and madness.
** Keep in mind this trope is subjected to ALL of the Ushiromiya family, especially in [=EP8=] which shows a different side of Kinzo, and paints the entire family in a far more flattering light than any of the other games. One of the main rules is that pieces can't act completely out of character no matter what, so normally there would be many interpretations to one character, including what their true intentions were even when they did in fact do despicable things. The manga adaptation clears it up more, with Ange coming to acknowledge that no one in her family was ever truly "a total villain or a total saint."

** [[spoiler:The whole character of Beatrice II certainly qualifies as such considering that she has a very well written backstory and that could easily take Sayo's place in history with her equally (if not more) strong motivations, yet she appears only in Rosa and Kinzo's flashbacks and the rest she is just mentioned a few times. Together with her mother, she is also one of the 4 deceased characters connected to the Ushiromiyas who did not appear in the finale in the Golden Land even once, although it is basically thanks to her and Beatrice Castiglioni that the legend of the golden witch Beatrice (and consequently the existence of the whole story) existed.]]
** Kinzo's wife also potentially qualifies as such as, although she could potentially bring many interesting storylines, she does not appear even once and is mentioned even less than Beatrice [[spoiler:II]].
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Throughout all 8 sagas, Maria justifies Rosa's violent reactions to her as the actions of a great black witch who possesses her in her moments of UnstoppableRage. Rosa, similar to Eva according to Ange, has these reactions because she carries within herself great quantities of anger, bitterness and pain repressed as a result of the family climate in which she grew up and the difficulties of her life that, often and willingly, crushed her. Because of this you would expect that sooner or later Rosa, like her sister Eva and Sayo Yasuda, suffers (according to the imagination of Maria) a LiteralSplitPersonality that allows her [[AnthropomorphicPersonification to manifest her hypothetical witch version in the Meta-World]], yet the whole franchise ends without this black witch (which in the Meta-World is known and feared for eliminating one of the Chiester Sisters as a reflection of Rosa who destroyed one of Maria's ceramic bunnies) really having the chance to see the light. Just the dissatisfaction of this possible narrative turn never explored that involves the character of Rosa (who, behind the protagonists characters, has always been classified as one of the most popular) has partly influenced the birth of "Rosatrice's theory".
** [[spoiler: Even in ''Ougon Musou Kyoku'', combining Rosa with some characters with whom she shares an ending scenario or seeing her clash with some characters in the story mode, half the cast recognizes her as the infamous Black Witch (and some fantasy characters like Ronove, Ange, Chiester 410, Beatrice and even Lambdadelta come to respect her for her terrifying power).]]
* ToyShip: Sakutaro's mutually-adoring relationship with Maria hints at this.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Throughout all 8 sagas, Maria justifies Rosa's violent reactions to her as the actions of a great black witch Great Black Witch who possesses her in her moments of UnstoppableRage. Rosa, similar to Eva according to Ange, has these reactions because she carries within herself great quantities of anger, bitterness and pain repressed as a result of the family climate in UnstoppableRage, which she grew up and the difficulties of her life that, often and willingly, crushed her. Just the dissatisfaction of this possible narrative turn never explored that involves the character of Rosa (who, behind the protagonists even addressed by fantasy characters, has always been classified certain TIPS, and ''VideoGame/UminekoGoldenFantasia'' as one of the most popular) has partly influenced the birth of "Rosatrice's theory".
** [[spoiler: Even in ''Ougon Musou Kyoku'', combining Rosa
TheDreaded. Despite similarities with some characters with whom she shares an ending scenario or seeing Eva and [[spoiler:Yasuda]] in her clash with some characters in the story mode, half the cast recognizes her as the infamous Black Witch (and some fantasy characters personality and childhood, Rosa's EnemyWithout witch persona like Ronove, Ange, Chiester 410, Beatrice and even Lambdadelta come to respect her for her terrifying power).]]
EVA-Beatrice never actually manifests.
* ToyShip: Sakutaro's mutually-adoring relationship with Maria hints at this.makes them a target of pairings.

* HardToAdaptWork: The story is massive, features dozens of characters, and heavy post-modernism elements. The anime suffered from being a CompressedAdaptation, with key scenes either being heavily abridged or omitted entirely. This led to the mystery being unsolvable due to important clues not appearing. For comparison, the manga had over 40 volumes while the stage-play has stuck to adapting one episode per 3-hour show.
