* ItGetsBetter: The first novel is almost painfully monotonous with glimmers of hope when small horror elements show up… then somebody finally dies! In the 10th chapter (out of 17)!
** Granted, that long monotonous prologue that introduces all the characters and their relationship is what makes the following murders so poignant. The anime painfully showed that compressing that prologue makes the first twilights lose half of their intensity.
