''Trigun'' is ridiculously popular in America, but not quite as much in its homeland of Japan.Japan; while [[AcclaimedFlop both the manga and anime won a Seiun Award, neither of them performed well financially]]. Because of this, the movie premiered at Sakuracon 2010, months before the Japanese premiere.

Stampede has its own separate entry now, and since it's still airing it's too early to say whether it really has this status.

* AmericansHateTingle: The redesigns from ''Stampede'' (especially Wolfwood and Elendira) have proven very unpopular with western fans, though the redesigns have generally been much better received by Japanese fans.

* CommonKnowledge: Everyone knows that the name of the planet the series takes place on is Gunsmoke, right? Except this is {{Fanon}} and has never been stated by any official source. The planet is dubbed No Man's Land in both the manga and ''Stampede'' and the 1998 anime never mentions any kind of name for the planet. The "Gunsmoke" name came from the title of the cancelled game ''Trigun: The Planet Gunsmoke''.

** Character-wise, Kuroneko-sama seems disproportionally more popular in America than in Japan. What very few Japanese merch you can get of Kuroneko are usually just accessories bundled with merch of the other characters. In America on the other hand you can get Kuroneko plushies, slippers, pillows, shirts, hats, backpacks, keychains, fuzzy dice...

Moving YMMV entries for Trigun Stampede to its own page

** ''Trigun Stampede'' split the base even further at the moment the teaser trailer was first unveiled. Fans were completely divided about Vash's redesign, which greatly simplifies his costume and swaps his iconic spiky hair for an undercut, and many who were hoping for a manga-faithful reboot were let down as it appears to be a completely original story. People also weren't so keen on the Japanese cast being completely replaced, and Tsuneo Imahori not returning for the music. The twins bowlcut hairstyles when they were kids was also not well received, [[DisproportionateRetribution some people joking that Knives turned evil because of his haircut]]. That said, some people enjoyed Vash's new design, and the reception for the animation quality was positive even from people who normally dislike [=CG=] anime. The announcement panel was also met with rousing applause even after the new design was revealed.
*** The second trailer managed to split the base further still. Fans were not pleased that Milly is still nowhere to be seen, it is not a prequel and Vash's design is permanent, and that Wolfwood is much paler and younger looking and his punisher is smaller. The new character Roberto Deniro himself has proven to be a base-breaking character, some are interested in seeing what he'll be like while others consider him a ReplacementScrappy for Milly. However, the trailer did manage to win some people over due to the fluid animation, Vash and Wolfwood's personalities being the same as ever (and that Wolfwood and Meryl are even in it, period), Vash's new voice actor doing a damn good job channeling Masaya Onosaka's original performance, and the confirmation that Legato will be returning.
*** Then there's the third and fourth trailer, which reveals Livio the Double Fang. Some are ecstatic that Livio finally gets to be animated... And some who've been waiting for the day to come hated that he ended up getting a new, much less muscular design. There's also a little girl who resembles Elendira (the third episode confirms it is indeed Elendira) and some are upset at the idea of a badass woman being turned into a child, but some are happy to see her at all, plus it's not 100% certain if she will age in the series. And Milly is ''still'' nowhere to be seen. Other changes are Leonof with a little girl, which is pretty much Unica, [[spoiler: his talking puppet]], and as shown by people in social media such as Facebook, Legato's new design stopped being imposing and now looks like [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Milhouse]], cue the fandom not being happy.
*** The fandom was even further split with Vash's new {{Cyberpunk}} inspired revolver being [[LittleUselessGun .22 LR]] instead of a .45 Long Colt, while not as strong as another HandCannon's in real life, it is much more powerful than a .22LR, however some think it's more fitting for a TechnicalPacifist.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The drastic YoungerAndHipper redesigns, CGI animation, brighter color pallet and the fact that Milly seems to have been replaced with a new male character has lead to ''Trigun Stampede'' NOT being well received by the western fanbase.

Though they are OlderThanTheyLook (especially [[spoiler: Livio]]) due to the serums, the fact that the baby Wolfwood helped raise in ''Free Bird'' is in her teens and that their childhood friend Jasmine appears to be the same age as Milly and Meryl pretty firmly establishes that they are in their early twenties by the time of ''Maximum''.

** Vash's rigid pacifism can be rather insufferable to more jaded viewers, especially with incidents like his fight with Monev the Gale where innocent people die as collateral damage because he refused to fight seriously and with the intent to kill from the beginning. Of course, this is arguably the point, as Vash's pacifism is meant to be portrayed as unhealthy and his entire arc is about him letting go of his ideals.

Livio also gets shipped with Milly due to them both being [[BruiserWithASoftCenter Bruisers With A Soft Center]].
