It's not a YMMV trope

* RewatchBonus: The subtle hints and {{foreshadowing}} become a lot more apparent after having already watched the series once. For example, [[spoiler:the robbers of Episode one make a few comments about expecting heroes to arrive, and being willing to be saved by Sky High, the #1 hero, and not Wild Tiger, one of the lowest ranked heroes.]]

* MagnificentBastard:
** [[AntiVillain Yuri Petrov]], "Lunatic," is a vigilante NEXT who forgoes any attempts at fame or upholding of morality, to instead dish out justice as he sees fit. Raised by an abusive superhero father, Lunatic came to despise all forms of evil in the world, believing the most sure path to safety and peace was [[PayEvilUntoEvil the extermination of those who do wrong]], and goes about executing and assassinating countless rapists and murderers, all while [[VillainWithGoodPublicity keeping up the guise]] of the charming judge of the city of Sternbild. As Lunatic, he gains immense popularity for his effectiveness, and his code of honor leads to him going so far as to save the life of his enemy Kotetsu, noting it wouldn't be just for a hero like him to be killed. Lunatic walks away from the story as dangerous and powerful as ever, showing no signs of being stopped by anyone in his self-perceived righteous crusade.
** ''Beginnings'': [[LovableRogue Robin Baxter]] is an international criminal known for committing robberies from multiple countries while using his NEXT power of switching locations with people, to escape his pursuers. Stealing a statue of Mr. Legend in Sternbild City, Baxter continues to evade the police and heroes alike, eventually luring them at an amusement park where he uses his powers and evasion skills to misdirect and outsmart them. Baxter eventually plans to reach the park's highest point and use his powers to switch locations with citizens of Sternbild to completely escape the authority's grasps, a plan Baxter would have [[NearVillainVictory succeeded in]] if not for the intervention of [[{{Deuteragonist}} Barnaby Brooks]].
** ''The Rising'': [[BigBad Andrew Scott]] is a NEXT seeking revenge on [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Mark Schneider]] for taking his father's company which led to [[DrivenToSuicide his suicide]]. To complete his revenge, Andrew recruits three other [=NEXTs=] who were ruined by Schneider and has them wreak havoc on Sternbild City and attack heroes while Andrew infiltrates Schneider's company using the alias Virgil Dingfelder to get close to the man he plans to kill. He then has his subordinates attack innocent people during Justice Day, distracting the remaining heroes while kidnapping Schneider and preparing to murder him. Stopped only by Kotetsu T. Kaburagi and Barnaby Brooks, Jr., Andrew accepts his [[GracefulLoser defeat with grace]] as Schneider gets arrested.

** Season 2: Gregory Sunshine is a two-bit criminal NEXT with a special power: [[PowerIncontinence to make other NEXT lose control of their abilities]]. Having used it on Golden Ryan in the past as with other heroes and NEXT, the resulting horrible damage and threat to civilians has left Ryan with deep trauma years later. Murdering sympathetic villains to cover his tracks, Gregory teams up with Ouroboros and uses his abilities to create the dangerous "X," uncaring of the countless lives at risk. Unleashing mad villains to completely wipe out the heroes, Gregory repeatedly demonstrates his only loyalties are to [[{{Greed}} profit]] and [[ForTheEvulz his own warped amusement]].

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: For a time until ''The Rising'', Fire Emblem was the least popular hero of the main cast due to their harassment of male heroes and their antics could very easily push them into QueerPeopleAreFunny, making many people (especially those that are LGBT+) feel as if the character was nothing more than an offensive stereotype. It wasn't until ''The Rising'' where their popularity took a massive boost as their DarkAndTroubledPast was taken in both a rather realistic and sympathetic look into gender and sexual identity for Nathan, which caused many to rethink their opinion and view them more positively. Nowadays, they are a BaseBreakingCharacter instead.

* {{Squick}}: Blue Rose, a 16-year-old falls in love with Tiger, a man in his thirties. It is, however, suggested in [[AllThereInTheManual side material]] that she has a [[LikesOlderMen general fetish for older men]]. It's also lessened somewhat by the fact that Kotetsu himself is [[ObliviousToLove completely oblivious]] to her crush on him.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Fire Emblem. Some viewers see them as an unflattering stereotype of LGBTQ people, which wasn't helped by their tendency to sexually harass the male heroes. However, some feel they were RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap in ''The Rising'' after their backstory was revealed and learning to accept themselves. Season 2 further helps by removing the sexual harassment gag, which has helped them gain more fans, but still remains somewhat divisive.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** A streaming example. [[ScrewedByTheLawyers Due legal reasons]], when Netflix started streaming the series, the logos were removed from the heros' suits, which led to some contradictions in the dialogue. The logos were fortunately left intact for the movies and season 2.
** A big complaint about the series is that despite the show advertising eight heroes and giving them some episodes to flesh them out, the heroes sans Barnaby and Kotetsu are not actually relevant to the plot for the most part to the point if they were replaced with more generic heroes, the results would stay the same. Season 2 moves to fix this, as not only do Rock Bison, Blue Rose, and Golden Ryan [[spoiler: formulate a plan to outsmart and nearly defeat Fugan and Mugan]], it's ultimately [[spoiler: Lara and Thomas that ultimately dispatch the twins, rather than the titular duo.]]
** Fire Emblem was a BaseBreakingCharacter in season 1 due to, among other flaws, their tendency to sexually harass the other male heroes. By season 2, while they still act flirtatious at times, they don't grope their coworkers anymore.
