Cleanup. Scrappy must be consistently hated so being liked in prior/later works disqualifies them save the boyfriend who's more ignored as opposed brought up as hated.

* TheScrappy:
** Erik Selvig was liked just fine in the first movie and ''The Avengers'', but that was mainly because he could be serious in addition to comical. Here he devolves into almost pure comic relief territory that many felt unnecessary and annoying. Helping matters is Selvig receiving a far smaller amount of screentime in comparison to the first movie, only approaching his original characterisation at the end of the film, but even that is undermined by the film still having Selvig act like a fool. Worse still, Selvig is repeatedly stated to have suffered a nervous breakdown after what Loki did to him, yet none of his fragile mental health is treated seriously and is entirely PlayedForLaughs. Thankfully, [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap he's back to normal]] by ''Film/AvengersAgeOfUltron''.
** Darcy's new intern/boyfriend gets some of this as well due to being rather flat, and Darcy herself caught a lot more flak in this movie than in the previous one for being annoying and immature.
** Jane Foster's reputation took a severe hit in this film due to her [[StrangledByTheRedString unbelievable]] romance with Thor that [[RomanticPlotTumor brought down the story]] and negatively affects the quality of the film, and also flattened her own character, keeping her entertainingly pathological obsession with her research from the last movie to a minimum in favor of her relationship drama, with the aforementioned Selvig being given nearly all of the scientific importance instead. The fact that a lot of other interesting characters and plot points from the comic were [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter short-changed]] in exchange for her did ''not'' help. Even Natalie Portman herself [[CreatorBacklash wasn't happy]] with her character's portrayal in the film and actually considered departing after Patty Jenkins' departure as director, hence why she doesn't reprise her role in ''Film/ThorRagnarok'', although she is on track to being RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap in ''Film/ThorLoveAndThunder'' for [[TookALevelInBadass obvious reasons.]]
** Malekith is probably the MCU villain with the most negative reception due to his FlatCharacter status. Even people who loved the movie found the character flat and forgettable.

Zero Context Example. And if you have to hide it in spoiler tags, it's most certainly not this trope.

Removing this warning for two reasons: 1) Malekith is already approved, so the warning outright contradicts what's on the page, and 2) I sincerely doubt anyone's going to try and put Loki up after his arc by the end of Phase 3.

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Malekith the Accursed]] counts in both the film and the tie-in video game:
** Film: [[DarkIsEvil Malekith the Accursed]] is the leader of the [[OurElvesAreDifferent Dark Elves]] who intends to [[OmnicidalManiac plunge the universe into eternal darkness]]. Millennia ago, Malekith waged war with Asgard to acquire the Aether, yet when he found he was losing the battle, Malekith disabled all of his soldiers' ships, crushing his enemies yet [[DirtyCoward killing all of his own soldiers]] just so he could escape. ** Video game: [[DarkIsEvil Malekith the Accursed]], the leader of the [[OurElvesAreDifferent Dark Elves]] and the root of all evil in the game, differs from the version seen in the film. Desiring to return the universe to the "darkness" that existed before life sprouted throughout the cosmos, Malekith begins collecting powerful Uru weapons to use in a ritual to fulfill his desire. Sending his minions throughout the Nine Realms, Malekith has innocents killed, monstrous creatures released, and entire villages razed to the ground, all in various attempts to distract Thor from stopping him. With no loyalty to his "partners", as seen when he betrayed and attempted to murder both the Frost Giants and the God of Mischief, Loki, when [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness they outlived their usefulness]], Malekith [[AGodAmI proclaims himself a god]] before trying to [[OmnicidalManiac wipe out all life in the universe]], so as to make the Dark Elves the reigning power once again, with himself as ruler supreme.

The entry literally contradicts itself

* VindicatedByHistory: While it's still not considered to be one of the MCU's better installments, reception towards the film has gotten better over time. Notably, the story's more introspective and serious tone regarding Thor and his mythos is looked at more fondly by some, especially by those who have grown tired of Thor's more wacky and humorous characterization going forward.

I put Doctor Strange 2 here mainly for how many different ways it has split audiences. I can't add the Broken Base entry for that film yet because we haven't reached the cutoff date yet but man, it will probably be long enough to warrant its own page.

* SoOkayItsAverage: It's widely considered to be one of the weaker entries in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse due to its generic plot and villain and lack of overall impact beyond [[spoiler: the time travel sequence in ''Film/AvengersEndgame'']]. However, it's not particularly hated either, being seen as a competent if ultimately forgettable film, and garners much less of a BrokenBase than more controversial entries such as ''Film/IronMan2'', ''Film/IronMan3'', and ''Film/{{Eternals}}''.
