Broad Strokes is not YMMV.

* BroadStrokes: The film is inspired mostly by the original (and copyright free) Baum books, though it borrows concepts from later adaptions. The main villain is the Wicked Witch of the West who, thanks to the 1939 film is treated as a primary antagonist in pop culture but was only that in the first book. The Nome King, the real main antagonist throughout the book series, is present but treated as a minor henchman. Also, Langwidere is made out to be an outright villainous, head stealing witch, an idea borrowed from Princess Mombi in ''Film/ReturnToOz''. Her book counterpart, while vain and disagreeable, was not a villain nor implied to practice witchcraft outside of her unique physical attributes.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: A number of viewers felt cheated with the reveal that [[spoiler:Nick wasn't the Tin Woodsman]] despite [[RedHerring the build up]] and the fact that he had finally accepted this as hios role, only for the actual character to be an 11thHourRanger showing up out of nowhere.
