* TooSoon: Unfortunately, a movie that cranked up the violence of a show with a metropolitan setting didn't sit well with too many people post-9/11, which is often cited as a reason it bombed.

StrawmanHasAPoint: The citizens of Townsville, frankly, have no reason to view the girls as anything other than destructive monsters for the majority of the film. They caused millions of dollars in property damage and the only reason no one was killed despite them barreling through buildings is writer fiat. Imprisoning the professor seemingly with no trial or investigation into events is going too far, but their anger and hatred is far from unreasonable.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic [=/=] TheScrappy: After giving them such an unwanted welcome, it's hard to want to see the girls save Townsville's incredibly unfriendly citizens.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: While some of the original designs' appeal is lost in translation to the big screen, the art direction is top-notch, especially the distinct color schemes of the girls on the asteroid and Mojo's ape army taking over the city. The final showdown with Mega Mojo is one of the few scenes which uses a beefier animation budget to the movie's benefit.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: On the other hand, there is some amazing animation thought the film given the bigger budget. Many important scenes such as Mojo Jojo and his ape army taking over Townsville and the Powerpuff Girls on the asteroid have their own colour scheme which make them stand out. The scenes with the girls fighting the apes and later Mega Mojo Jojo are also a sight to behold.

* VisualEffectsOfAwesome: On the other hand, there is some amazing animation thought the film given the bigger budget. Many important scenes such as Mojo Jojo and his ape army taking over Townsville and the powerpuff girls on the asteroid have their own colour scheme which make them stand out. * SpecialEffectsFailure: The show's flat, graphic design does ''not'' translate well to the big screen. The first time we see Professor Utonium, it's a worm's eye view and he looks like a cardboard cut-out,

* OutOfFocus: Surprisingly, ''WesternAnimation/ThePowerpuffGirlsMovie'' focuses a lot more on Professor Untonium, Mojo Jojo, the citizens of Townsville and everybody ''but'' the Powerpuff Girls. Hell, they don't even get a scene to themselves until they [[spoiler: strand themselves on the meteor]].

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic =/= TheScrappy: It's pretty hard to want the more judgmental citizens to get saved by the girls they treated so badly.
