** At one point, Liz says that Martyn is more like a GayBestFriend, to which he angrily says "but I'm not gay!" and then a group of rugby players chorus "yeah right". Daniel Brocklebank later came out as gay, although he had been out since after ''Film/ShakespeareInLove'', so this may have been LeaningOnTheFourthWall.

Added DiffLines:

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: The movie is very easy to pinpoint to the early 2000s, particularly through the fashions on Liz and Frankie once we see them partying in the bunker. The teens having cell phones is only because they go to a posh boarding school, and Frankie's phone is the 2000s Nokia model, with the rubber covers that were the height of fashion at the time, and of course they don't work in the bunker. Philippa also records her sessions with Liz on a camcorder. More obviously, the plot hinges on Liz's story about herself being in doubt with only Martyn's testimony to counteract it - something that could only happen in the days before social media. The idea that the parents would merely assume their children were on a field trip is a remnant of the days of hands-off parenting, especially when they wouldn't have easy access to the phone numbers or social medias of their teachers or school.
