* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: Can happen to some since Moorcock's Tropes have been widely used by brands like ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'', ''TabletopGame/{{Warhammer}}'', ''Franchise/TheWitcher'', ''VideoGame/LegacyOfKain,'' [[Creator/MarvelComics Marvel's]] [[ComicBook/Warlock1967 Adam Warlock]] and Comicbook/{{Thanos}}, and many other fantasy franchises. Also the angsty protagonist that goes through a TraumaCongaLine has pretty much lost its novelty for quite some time.

By late 80s, it was the most overused template for "edgy" fantasy. By the mid-90s, it was a laughstock about try-hard material for teenage metalheads. To say nothing about many things that made Elric stand out not only became cliches, but were simply done better by the numerous other fantasy franchises. Also works. Also, the angsty protagonist that goes through a TraumaCongaLine has pretty much lost its novelty for quite some time.decades ago.

* TrueArtIsAngsty: Certainly evoked by Moorcock, who wanted to deconstruct the popular epic fantasy stories of the time such as ''Lord of the Rings'' and ''Conan'' by dialing the brooding up to eleven and giving an air of hopelessness and nihlism in Elric's ultimately vain quest to fight his fate.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: It's maybe hard to go through all the books with Elric's angst and misery. Not to mention that [[spoiler:pretty much every sympathetic character dies horribly towards the end, including Elric. Although he gets a better ending in the Multiverse comic book]].

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Elric himself. The audience sees him either as a refreshing departure from the standard fantasy hero or as a whiny moron who gets hit by the IdiotBall a bit too much.
** Lampshaded in some stories, where Elric tries to argue that he doesn't want to be pitied, but others say he wants nothing more.
