Seeking to restore Behemoth to the world, Angel would [[FlayingAlive flay]] patches of his skin growing among the villagers, murdering those she can't convert, such as her supposed friend Mark, and his younger sister Cathy, who is raped as part of her sacrifice. When her follower Margaret escapes witch hunters, Angel would whip her under the suspicion she betrayed them; finding out Margaret lost her piece of Behemoth's skin, Angel would abandon her to the hunters, expecting and wishing that their dogs rip her apart.

* HoYay: Margaret's sheer devotion and UndyingLoyalty towards Angel goes far beyond mere [[TheDragon Dragon]] status and crosses into this trope, especially since she keeps it up even after Angel abandons her to the witch hunters.

* NauseaFuel: Peter has a nightmare that his hand has turned to a devil claw, and cuts it off!

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: The scene where Margaret gets the skin carved off her leg caused minor controversy for how graphic it was. It looks rather tame by today's standards.

** While the [[spoiler: rape and murder of Cathy]] is suitably horrifying, the fact that it's so long and drawn out can make it unintentionally hilarious. Especially with repeated close-ups of the two EvilOldFolks leering, and Margaret clearly having ADateWithRosiePalms as it goes on. Not to mention at one point Cathy makes a disgusted face that looks more like she's been farted on.

* NeverLiveItDown: The extremely graphic scene where [[spoiler: Cathy is raped and then murdered]] is a frequently criticised aspect of the film. Even Piers Haggard regrets doing it, saying it was "too strong".

** [[spoiler:Satan, despite being hyped up as this horrible abomination that has the potential to grow stronger than God, is unceremoniously impaled with a pitchfork and thrown into a fire. Justified, as he was apparently not "complete" yet.]]

* UnfortunateImplications:

--> "Because in the moral universe of ''Blood on Satan's Claw'', rape is an accusation bad women throw at innocent men, and they're always believed, regardless of whether they have a bad reputation, and... that's not quite how things pan out in the real world, and I can't imagine that was how things generally happened in the 1690s."
** The same article also calls the film exploitative and misogynistic because of the gratuitous [[spoiler: rape and murder of Cathy]], Margaret's treatment (violated by half the characters and being shown masturbating as someone else is killed), and the pointless scene of Angel being fully nude (with her actress being only seventeen too).

* WhatAnIdiot:
** Peter hears something rattling in the attic and he puts his hand down to find out what it is - this is after something has already driven his fiancee mad. Of course something tries to grab him, and he ends up hallucinating that his arm is turning into a claw.
** Peter also falls asleep in the same room where something tried to grab his hand through the floorboards. Of course this results in his nightmare where he's convinced his hand has turned into Satan's claw.
** The squire tries to convict the reverend of Mark's murder based on the allegations of one girl, even when two of the boys involved told his mother to her face that they did it.
** Ralph refuses to believe Margaret is a witch after the following: a) he finds her being ducked by villagers who believe her to be a witch, b) she proudly says she is a witch, c) she offers him a chance to join the cult.

** Another scene involving a ''Series/DoctorWho'' alumnus is where Wendy Padbury [[spoiler: [[NightmareFuel is raped before she's murdered]]]] in a long drawn out affair. The horror of the scene is sometimes forgotten in favour of the nudity.

** Angel's attempted seduction of the reverend doesn't seem to serve any purpose beyond getting Linda Hayden naked for some {{Fanservice}}. The teens never try to lure adults in again and Angel's motives aren't clear. She could be trying to pin Mark's murder on him, but she did that anyway when he turned her down.

** You'd be surprised that Angel Blake isn't the main character and that her screen time doesn't add up to that much. She's an antagonist yes, but Linda Hayden's commanding performance (and admittedly her sex symbol status) makes her seem like she's the main character.
