** A lot of fans in the west (where tomboyish girls are seen as more desirable) don't see anything wrong with Chocolat's behavior early in the manga, and think she's treated way too harshly. This may be the reason why it never really took off outside Japan.
** Vanilla being played up as the human world's ideal girl. Readers outside Japan might wonder what the big deal is.

The story also puts heavy emphasis on the idea that NoGuyWantsAnAmazon, to the point that ''everyone in the human world agrees with this''. This may be the reason why it never really took off outside Japan.

Added DiffLines:

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The show is aimed at little girls and is MagicalGirl themed, but it also has a surprisingly dark plot and tries to raise questions about semi-serious topics such as love and femininity (with mixed results). It also suffers badly from MostWritersAreAdults, which can be off-putting for a lot of people. Possibly because of this it never really became popular outside Japan and faded into obscurity there after it ended.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The opening tune "Chocolate ni Muchuu" is fantastic, a bombastic throwback to songs of the 1970s, and [[SurprisinglyGentleSong the first ending song]] "Tsuki no Mukou no Sekai" is just gorgeous.

** In order to collect hearts, sometimes the girls have to act helpless and/or incompetent. To some outside Japan, this might come across as creepy or downright sexist.
** Although the series as a whole is fine and not pedophilic, there are a few things like Vanilla's PantyShot in the manga that get uncomfortable. They're literally children. Also, especially if one was a kid when they first were introduced to the show but eventually grew up (as everyone does), the fact that the two girls are both 10 years old and their plot-mandated objective is to make boys fall in love with them just becomes bizarre. 10 years old? Really? None of it is sexual, but it's odd that such a plotline had to feature children as the leads.
