** A lot of fans predicted that this episode would end on a {{Cliffhanger}} with Steven agreeing to go to Homeworld in exchange for his friends' freedom. They didn't expect Lars to get left on the ship, however.
** Some people also guessed from the fact that the trailer had implied that Sadie and Onion had been taken that Homeworld was after the humans Steven mentioned to Peridot back in "Marble Madness," and that Homeworld would think that "My Dad" was an actual name, explaining the title of the previous episode. This episode confirmed it, even flashing back to the very scene where he listed the other humans.

Only applies to the works made this, not the one causing it. And anything needing spoiler markup should go under the series wide page.

* HarsherInHindsight:
** The flashback "Three Gems and a Baby" has been interpreted as a charming Christmas episode, with Steven in the role of the baby Jesus. In this episode, he fulfills that destiny by sacrificing himself to save humanity.
** Just before Steven surrenders himself, Pearl tries to tell him something, but she unconsciously covers her mouth with her hands... [[spoiler: She knew he was not responsible for Pink Diamond's shattering, but couldn't do anything to prevent Aquamarine from capturing Steven.]]

Must be lasting debates so if it comes down to a since release later episode not an example.

* BrokenBase: Steven gets taken to Homeworld... With Lars, meaning that he'll be a key character for the next few episodes. Unfortunately, [[TheScrappy Lars is arguably the most hated character on the show besides Ronaldo]], so the decision to have him be a major player in the long awaited Homeworld arc irritated a good part of the fanbase. However, others who liked him already or thought he was RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap with "The Good Lars" are willing to give it a chance, interested to see how things will develop.

Not an example of the trope. And I Must Scream is when a character is trapped in a condition where they can't move, they can't communicate to anyone around them, and they can't die.

Besides, he wasn't trying to escape, he was running away from Topaz.

If Lars was terrified, it doesn't count as What An Idiot

* WhatAnIdiot: When Lars tries to escape, instead of running towards the exit he instead cowardly hides behind the stairs which ultimately leaves him trapped on the ship when it leaves for Homeworld at the end of the episode.

* WhatAnIdiot: While it was out of desperation, Steven is ''well aware'' of the negative image Rose is for most of Homeworld. So, pretending to be her and going off to Homeworld is possibly going to do more harm than good. There's also no guarantee the Diamonds will leave Earth alone in the future (the idea of them still collecting humans for the zoo even came up earlier.) However, Aquamarine and Topaz ''did'' seem uninterested in the Crystal Gems so long as they collected everyone on the list.
