** The bonus mission for the OOM-9 campaign, where it shows an alternate Battle of the Grassy Plains that the Trade Federation won, is surprisingly difficult. The Gungans both outrange and outnumber you and if you're not careful their artillery can tear you to shreds. Not helping things is there's a bottleneck towards the end which can become a death trap for your already depleted force.

The Gungans both outrange and outnumber you and if you're not careful their artillery can tear you to shreds. Not helping things is there's a bottleneck towards the end which can become a death trap for your already depleted force. This bottleneck happens to be chock full of Grenade Troopers, Assault Mechs and Mobile Shield Generators. The only consolation is that by this point you get Darth Maul, whom is effective at taking down these enemies.

Added DiffLines:

** Both of the Empire's bonus missions count to this:
*** Bonus Mission 1 requires you to storm Cloud City and defeat all the Rebel forces inside while also holding control of multiple Gravity Control Generators. Because Cloud City has no natural resources, you're essentially forced to RapePillageAndBurn Cloud City and its Storehouses for a limited number of resources, forcing players to manage their troops well to avoid wasting the limited number of resources.
*** Bonus Mission 2 is probably even more brutal. It's a desperate HoldTheLine mission where you need to protect the Endor Shield Generator for a while (ranging from 15 minutes on easy to 40 on hard). You are surrounded everywhere by Rebel forces whom will almost immediately launch attacks against your defenses. In addition, most of your Nova Crystal and Ore deposits are located right in the path of the Rebel assaults, negatively impacting your economy.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Simon the Killer Ewok, a cheat unit, has bit of a following in the Star Wars fandom, due to ability to take down units and buildings alike with his blaster bolts.

** Mission 6 of the Boss Nass campaign, The Liberation of Harte Secur, is pure insanity. While the first half of the mission - rescuing some fambaas from the Trade Federation - isn't too bad, the second half is. The game clearly expects you to stage a ground assault and fight through ludicrous amount of droids to destroy the enemy Command Center, which is extremly difficult due to their sheer numbers and shield generators placed everywhere. The number of anti-air turrets set-up also means that an air assault would be rendered ineffective.

* MostAnnoyingSound: Many, as SWGB is fairly weak in the sound effects department. Notable ones include:
** Selecting a group of Rebel tauntaun cavalry and having to listen to the same grunting.
** The error sound you hear every time you do something wrong (like trying to build a building you don't have enough resources for, or hitting the "Idle Worker" button without actually having idling workers).
** "GYAHAHAAAALLLLL!!!" (the obnoxiously loud and loudly obnoxious death screech of Naboo troopers)
** Most scenario specific troops have obnoxiously long and loud death sounds, and you'll usually find a lot of them. The Cloud City Security troops from the Imperial Campaign are of particular note, due to having a "budget WilhelmScream" as their death cry.

Not YMMV

* EasterEgg: Many maps have references to other Star Wars events through the use of vision cheats or judicious use of terrain destroying weaponry.
** In the first few Imperial maps, Mara Jade will be somewhere normally unreachable before leaving the map one way or another.
** Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon meeting Jar Jar can be found in the second Trade Federation mission (and even has unique scripts that make the units disappear off of the map if you move them correctly).
** Luke, Yoda, and R2 can be found in a Gungan mission, deep in the swamp.
** The first mission of the second Wookie campaign has a rather faithful recreation of the escape from Tantooine from Episode 1 hiding behind the treeline.
** The final Republic mission on Coruscant has tons of Legacy EU references hiding in the buildings, including Bossk, the infamous Wookie hating Trandoshan bounty hunter.
* HalfWayPlotSwitch
** Basic Training Campaign: Colonize Alaris Prime and train a militia to destroy an infestation of Gundarks--> Eliminate the Trade Federation presence on that moon.
** Gungans Campaign: Boss Gallo and Captain Marsune vs. Boss Rogoe in 3,000 BBY--> Boss Nass vs. Trade Federation forces in 32 BBY.

* LethalJokeCharacter: The Gungans are an entire faction of this. Not only do their buildings repair automatically Albeit slowly, not only can they build prefab shelters underwater Thus giving them access to more space in certain maps, not only are their frigates stealthed Albeit UselessUsefulStealth, since all frigates, regardless of faction, are stealth-detecting, but still, not only are their medics able to heal more units than the medics of any other civilization, NOT ONLY DO THEIR TROOPERS HAVE GREATER RANGE THAN THOSE OF ANY OTHER CIVILIZATION To the point where, depending on the enemy's limitations (or bad decisions), they can outrange fortresses and Assault Mechs but they have the most powerful Mechs and Heavy Weapons in the game, AND their elite unit is a mobile shield generator, thus giving their armies extra protection even inside enemy strongholds. A skilled Gungan player will make life hell for a non-Gungan enemy.
** Their awesomeness will be a little bit limited if the battle takes place on a non-aquatic map, but not by much. And whatever you do, do NOT face a Gungan player when "All Techs" is selected. Just don't.

* NoKillLikeOverkill: Units spawned by cheat codes tend to be excessively brutal. Simon the Killer Ewok is lightning fast, and has shields, regenerating health, and more firepower than a dozen repeater troopers. The Bongo Marauder is a boat unit with roughly the same stats and killing power. Clone Campaigns lets you summon a Victory-class Star Destroyer or a "Blockade Runner" Corellian Corvette, both of which can flatten forests and deal more damage than a regular air cruiser. But the king of excess is easily the Death Star, which is slower than a drunk bantha and has the longest reload interval in the game, but has max health and shields, and can wipe literally everything off the screen in one shot, even normally invulnerable resource crystals and the terrain of the map itself, leaving a featureless flat plain in its wake. You can also summon Decimators from the story mode, but they pale in comparison to the above units.
* RecycledScript: Several missions in Galactic Battlegrounds resemble missions seen in the campaigns of VideoGame/AgeOfEmpiresII.
** The Basic Training campaign is played out more or less the same as the William Wallace tutorial campaign. This is especially noticeable in the first, sixth, and seventh missions.
** The second mission in the Gungan campaign has the player control a small group of soldiers that travels to different Gungan tribes with the intent to recruit them to join your cause, much like the first mission of the Genghis Khan campaign.
** The first mission of the second Wookiee campaign plays a lot like the first Franks campaign, albeit more linear.
