* TearJerker: In the Q&A, Scratch, Coconuts and Orbot are eventually ForcedToWatch as [[spoiler:Grounder and Cubot fall prey to EXE's DemonicPossession, and by the final question, the former two are trying to snap Grounder out of X's control, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness knowing this is NOT how he acts at all]]. It doesn't help that only Rosy's in the loop about what's really going on, and by the time she decides to act on it herself, it's far too late to stop X.]]

* NightmareFuel: The [[https://youtu.be/KJIwTFMPqME "Infinite Pleads"]] animatic, showing part of what happened to Infinite following his defeat in ''Forces''.

** Perhaps even more unexpected is [[spoiler:[[VideoGame/MetalGear Solid Snake]], played by ''Creator/DavidHayter himself'']]!

** Out of the many characters from [[ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehogArchieComics the Archie series]] both pre- and post-reboot, it's not hard to understand ''in-universe'' why Eggman recruited [[EvilSorcerer Naugus for his magic]] and [[EvilTwin Scourge for being an evil version of his nemesis]], but Rosy's a more surprising choice given that she doesn't have as long a villain portfolio as, say, [[TheChessmaster Mammoth Mogul]], a Dark Egg Legion Grandmaster (pre-reboot) or one of the Egg Bosses (post-reboot). That is until you remember [[VideoGame/SonicForces the last time]] Eggman had an [[SmugSnake overzealous]] {{sadist}} in his employ, it resulted in every step of his master plan getting screwed up in one way or another. And considering that Scourge is more prone to [[DirtyCoward cowardice]] and [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder deceit]] than even Infinite was, it's possible that Eggman's decision to recruit [[TheDreaded Rosy]] had the ''conscious purpose'' of disciplining Scourge, with her role as the team's PintSizedPowerhouse just being a bonus.

** One [=YouTube=] comment has argued that the CruelTwistEnding to the first Q&A special-- [[spoiler:where Sonic.exe possesses Cubot and Grounder and kills the cast of villains with help from Fleetway Super Sonic-- was actually [[YourMindMakesItReal a Phantom Ruby illusion]] Infinite engineered [[EvilIsPetty as revenge for being left out of the Q&A]]. The fact that Infinite was noticeably the only villain in the Q&A whose head wasn't shown to be on a pike at the end implies that either this is indeed the case, Sonic.exe and Fleetway Super Sonic decided to spare him, or the two didn't even notice he was there to be killed.]]

** The CruelTwistEnding to the first Q&A where [[spoiler:Sonic.exe and Fleetway Super Sonic '''''kill everyone and leave their disembodied heads on pikes''''' is one ''hell'' of a MoodWhiplash… but then it goes back to being funny when Fleetway Super assures the audience [[SnapBack that this'll obviously be fixed in time for the film itself]]. Assuming the MoodWhiplash doesn't already make said ending itself an example.]]
** Likewise, [[spoiler:X and Fleetway Super's]] advice to the viewers in the midst of the UsefulNotes/Covid19Pandemic is that they should [[spoiler:go outside, never wash their hands and "have fun dying" to the disease.]]

** Why does Boom Shadow go along with the VillainTeamUp despite [[WesternAnimation/SonicBoom the last time]] he participated in a similar plan? Because in his dimension, Eggman and most of the other villains have proven to be so [[HarmlessVillain ineffectual and incompetent]] Shadow didn’t even think they were worthy of the title. The current line-up, on the other hand, while not without their quirks, have each committed more impressive feats that add credibility to them being legitimate villains and even actual threats to Sonic. So while Shadow clearly doesn’t think highly the group, he does likely [[VillainRespect respect]] them more than the other villains of his dimension. In other words, he's no longer a NormalFishInATinyPond villainy-wise.

* HarsherInHindsight: In the 2020 Q&A, Eggman insists that he gave up on fighting Sonic and the Resistance to respond to Infinite's "harrowing cries" from his defeat at the end of ''VideoGame/SonicForces'', and nursing him back to health from then on. While this was already clearly meant to be [[BlatantLies made-up malarkey]] on Eggman's part for the sake of getting a laugh out of the audience, the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJIwTFMPqME "Infinite Pleads"]] storyboard released in 2022 shows that it's a good descriptor of ''the exact opposite'' of what really happened-- while Infinite was indeed in pure agony thanks to the Phantom Ruby putting such heavy strain on his battered body, Eggman clearly didn't care ''one bit'' for [[AintTooProudToBeg Infinite's insistence towards being given a second chance]], and unrelentingly tore the Phantom Ruby clean off of Infinite's body, the jackal screaming in pain throughout the whole thing.

* SugarWiki/BetterThanCanon: Depends on who you ask, but some of the characters who were more divisive in their source materials have been considered less so here:
** BreakoutVillain or not, there are fans out there who ''have'' expressed a strong dislike of Scourge the Hedgehog, such as arguing that he came off as too obnoxious, petty or power-hungry (and even implicitly abusive towards his romantic partners) to be considered a proper ShadowArchetype of the more easygoing Sonic, arguing that a lot of of his accomplishments in-universe came more as a result of luck or TheWorfEffect than his own skills and effort, or finding his supposed FreudianExcuse of not getting enough attention from his father as [[{{Narm}} too corny to properly humanize him]] compared to how his Sonic ''lost his family, friends and home to war'' from as young as the age of five. While this work doesn't change his canon personality that much, his more hateful or aggressive traits are toned down to mere DeadpanSnarker levels, he generally isn't taken seriously by the film [[NoRespectGuy or even the other villains in the cast]] (even [[TheDitz Cubot]] finds him whiny), and his arrogant actions and attempts to ''be'' taken seriously more often than not [[KarmicButtMonkey result in self-inflicted misery]]. His portrayal here can arguably be compared to that of Vegeta from ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'': a {{Jerkass}} whose [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex petty attitude and inferiority complex]] defines him as TheChewToy of the cast.
** Likewise, Rosy the Rascal didn't have much depth or development in the source material and was merely just a psychotic version of Amy obsessed with "smashing" everything in sight. Here, her character gets more time to be fleshed out besides her {{Yandere}} obsession with Scourge (and she's now able to hold a full conversation with him, anyways), it's implied that there's a budding OddFriendship of sorts between her and characters like Naugus and Dark Oak, and she gains a full-on VillainousFriendship with the equally kooky Brainwashed!Sara.
** In a CharacterRerailment sense, the more unhinged and unrestrained traits Naugus had in both Archie continuities have been toned down, and acts more in line with his original portrayal from ''WesternAnimation/SonicTheHedgehogSatAM'' as a playfully maniacal yet composed schemer. His ButtMonkey elements from the post-reboot Archie continuity have also been toned down to about the same level as the rest of the cast.
** [=MiiToons=] has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOGcFxHSjcA expressed a desire]] to intentionally do this with Elise from ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'', through redesigning her with a more cartoony look, making her relationship with Sonic more of a friendship as opposed to an InterspeciesRomance, and (through the help of her voice actress) giving her some additional energetic GenkiGirl traits to emphasize her stronger will and desire to help out.

* BetterThanCanon: Depends on who you ask, but some of the characters who were more divisive in their source materials have been considered less so here:

* UnexpectedCharacter: The fact that [[spoiler:VideoGame/SonicExe himself is gonna make an appearance!]]

* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct: Some of the actors sound like dead ringers for Creator/MikePollock, Creator/GarryChalk, Creator/IanJamesCorlett, Creator/KirkThornton, and Creator/MauriceLaMarche, among others, while still giving great deliveries in their own right. Orbot and Cubot in particular sound like their canon selves without the robot filter.
