* ContestedSequel: There's no denying that this film is much more in line with the continuity of the games, and does an admirable job of tying everything together in a way that doesn't feel too contrived. That said, there's also no denying that the script, acting, cinematography and effects are all markedly worse than in the first film. While we've all seen in action just how terrible the results of a survival horror film series straying ''too'' far from the games can be (the commercially successful but critically-reviled ''Film/ResidentEvil'' movies), there's also the question of whether or not the first film, which did have some legitimately scary and emotional moments, should have been almost completely written off in a way that creates some noticeable [[PlotHole Plot Holes]] because it didn't follow the events of any of the games.

* HamAndCheese: It doesn't seem like Malcom [=McDowell=] was taking his role very seriously.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[http://youtu.be/jvBYMV1-aJg "Vincent Condemned"]] from the soundtrack is a pretty awesome and heavy piece of music based off of "Memory of the Waters" from ''VideoGame/SilentHill3''.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: With this canon's version of Alessa being something of the BiggerBad, the idea of Heather facing a confrontation with her was an attractive plot idea. The Alessa part of the plot is kicked to the sidelines and is resolved in a scene lasting barely more than a minute.

* HilariousInHindsight: The FridgeHorror of Heather and Vincent's relationship (them being cousins) becomes a lot funnier when Kit Harington's character in''Series/GameOfThrones'' [[spoiler: unknowingly banged his paternal aunt in the Season 7 finale. Poor guy just can't seem to find a girlfriend who isn't related to him.]]

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Claudia Wolf]] is an albino fanatic who [[AdaptationalVillainy lacks her original counterpart's sympathetic qualities]]. The sister of both Christabella and Dahlia Gillespie, Claudia is the shapeshifting HighPriestess, known as the Missionary, for [[ReligionOfEvil the Order of Valtiel]] who desires to bring Heather back to Silent Hill and summon her enigmatic god to the human world. As an important figure within the cult, Claudia had her own father and a number of other people condemned to the Brookhaven Asylum to be lobotomized while also crucifying supposed traitors. Cutting a symbol into the chest of her own son as part of a ritual that would allow him to find Heather for her, Claudia murders a private investigator who had betrayed her and kidnaps Heather's father, forcing the girl to return to the town. When her son chose to side with Heather, Claudia spared him from being burned alive but instead sent him to suffer the same fate as his grandfather before him.

In short, Alessa created an infant that would be the physical manifestation of her "good" side, so it would go without saying that Sharon shares the same DNA. However in ''this'' film's retcon, Sharon/Heather was a random, already-born infant that Alessa found and used as a vessel to place her "good" side in. Basically, Heather only carries a portion of Alessa's soul, but is not biologically related to Alessa, so she and Vincent aren't cousins (more along the lines of spiritual cousins). This doesn't necessarily fix the RomanticPlotTumour though.

* {{Narm}}: The dialogue writing [[HamAndCheese and]] [[DullSurprise acting]] in this movie are just about as bad as they were in the first game, which came out over a decade ago, and were dramatically improved by the [=PS2=] era to create an effective mood of unease. Here it's just bad acting.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: The makeup effects are quite good, as in the first movie, but whenever a CG monster shows up, it looks pretty awful.

** Pyramid Head is stated to be [[spoiler: Alessa/Heather's guardian and executioner, in a sense taking Valtiel's role from [[SilentHill3 SH3]]]], largely [[VoodooShark justifying]] complaints of his [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment unexplained presence]] in the first movie.

* VideoGameMoviesSuck: While some people may [[NarmCharm enjoy]] [[SoBadItsGood it,]] most agree that it's slow, unrealistic (the characters and the acting), and has a lot of cheap scares.

** Let's not forget when [[spoiler: Leonard is killed]], the shot actually [[TheyJustDidntCare slips out of focus]].
