Two horror movie icons set up against each other on the big screen, the fact that one or both of the antagonists have been mostly forgotten for a while in-universe, AND of course the LetsYouAndHimFight between the two ghouls. Also, both movies are pure, (mostly) unadulterated {{Fanservice}} to fans of both sides of the conflicts.

* FridgeBrilliance: Quite a few people have complained that the hyped up fight between Sadako and Kayako is very one sided, with Kayako on the losing end. [[CurbStompBattle Sadako sucks Toshio into the TV, throttles Kayako, gouges out one of her eyes, and then explodes Kayako's head by forcibly making eye contact.]] Kayako, conversely, is only able to attack Sadako by pouncing on her — which results in the above attack — and by crushing the cursed video cassette, which only pisses Sadako off. While this might seem unfair, it should be noted that the two onryo are very different from each other. Sadako was hinted at being an incredibly powerful psychic that was genuinely bloodthirsty from the start. Meanwhile, Kayako was a relatively normal person who was transformed out of anger and pain, with the biggest thing fueling her is her grudge. Basically, Sadako has the means to effectively attack another onryo, but Kayako’s rage is so strong that it prevents her from disappearing. It’s literally an unstoppable force vs. an immovable object!
