* MisaimedRealism: The game's drum kit controller was intended to be "the most realistic drum peripheral on the market". To this end, the drum has more pads to hit than its competitors, six of them as opposed to ''VideoGame/RockBand'''s four and ''VideoGame/GuitarHero'''s five, which are arranged in a layout that more closely resembles that of a real drum kit. However, the pads representing the cymbals are still just awkwardly-positioned and shaped pads, as opposed to actual elevated cymbals like ''Guitar Hero'''s drum kit. Meanwhile, the "realistic" layout just makes it hard to tell which pad you're supposed to hit for each on-screen input, while ''Rock Band'' and ''Guitar Hero'''s drums have neatly-lined elements that are easier to associate with each lane.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The response from fans of the DrumMania and GuitarFreaks franchises over Konami's choice of a gameplay style closer to its competitors instead of the tried and true formula used in its originators. Complaints also came from players too used to the new industry standard of a slanted highway for notes and a colored bar spanning across the lanes to indicate pedal kicks. The end result is most people complained that they changed all the good stuff and left the bad stuff alone.

* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Despite Konami having originated the ''very concepts'' that Guitar Hero and Rock Band have expanded on, people still think the developers tried too hard to copy the "style" of gameplay used by its American-produced counterparts, and some would've been better off with games based more on its ancestors.
