* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Although the film was completed before ''WesternAnimation/{{Zootopia}}'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Sing}}'', it was released after both films came out, and thus received a lot of criticism for having similarities with them. The fact that it also seems to be taking a lot of cues from ''WesternAnimation/KungFuPanda'' (Chinese setting, underdog story, [[ArtShift 2D animated intro]]) earned it a lot of criticisms for fans of those films.

*** Perhaps a more obvious example is that the song Bodi and Angus ended up writing together is basically a love song. The chorus even has the line about growing old together which they both sing in a duet during the concert performance. Though this could just be chalked up to Angus suggesting that the subject should appeal to the masses (love songs sell after all) since its original subject was about being stuck in a garbage truck, still fans took this as a sign that there's something more between the two.

** Bodi[=/=]Angus. As the only characters who have a large amount of interaction with each other, Bodi's relentless pursuit of Angus, Angus himself growing fond of Bodi as the story goes on, and [[OppositesAttract the appeal of two opposing species being]] [[InterspeciesRomance in-love]], it was a no-brainer for certain viewers. And that's not even getting into their song, "Glorious", which barely teeters into SillyLoveSongs territory.

** Bodi[=/=]Dharma, an equally popular ship with many pointing to the scene where Dharma calls Bodi "[[ShipTease cute]]." That, and she's the [[TheSmurfettePrinciple only prominent female character]] in the whole movie.

* CrossoverShip: There's a fairly popular one between Bodi and [VideoGame/AnimalCrossing K.K. Slider]] for the simple reason that they both happen to be canine characters who play the guitar.
