** "Rock Band Rewind" DLC could be considered a double edged sword. For newcomers to the Rock Band series, it allows them to get songs that were otherwise only available as on-disc exports, which have since expired. For those who were fortunate enough to export "Rewind" content during the previous console generation, however, it's less opportunity for new content, especially since Harmonix only releases two songs a week.

There also seems to be a strong emphasis on Rock Band 2 for Rewind DLC, since it was never released in Australia.

** The below-mentioned Billy Joel Greatest Hits Pack? The idea originated over 3 months prior to it's release in an episode of Series/TheOfficethe full joke was about a Billy Joel: Rockband game likely in the same vein as The Beatles: Rockband. A review of the episode said "God Forbid that ever happen", and in response, Billy Joel himself gave the thumbs up for his music to be used in Rockband 3prior to this, he hadn't allowed his music to be used in any video game whatsoever

*** To use Xbox 360 instruments on the Xbox One, one has to use a separate controller adapter, which increases the price of the Xbox One disc version; gamers who either digitally purchase [=RB4=] or purchase a physical guitar or band bundle for Xbox One and want to use Xbox 360 instruments have to purchase the adapter separately for US$25. The adapter is necessary because Microsoft changed the wireless controller connection protocol between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One; also, wired legacy controllers will not work on Xbox One. The MIDI Pro adapter and the Ion drum kit inexplicably requires another adapter to be able to use them in [=RB4=]. [=PS4=] users with [=PS3=] instruments have it easier; since the [=PS3=] instrument controllers already use a USB dongle, no additional hardware adapters are needed. However, on both consoles, any combination of last gen and current gen instruments can be used.

*** Rock Band 4 has also been getting a lot of flack for the amount of pop songs that have been made available. To say fans were upset that Music/OneDirection and Music/JustinBieber now have more tracks available than, say, Music/Motorhead would be a massive understatement. With many pop songs being keyboard[=/=]synth heavy, the omission of keys becomes more glaring, even for those who do like pop.

** Rock Band 4 gets hit with this due its perceived weaker on-disc soundtrack compared to its predecessorsDespite some noteworthy additions to the franchise (e.g. Music/TheProtomen, Music/U2, Music/VanHalen, Music/ElvisPresley), several songs are either by little known 2010s artists or One Hit Wonders, and songs from the series' returning artists (e.g. Music/Rush, Music/FooFighters, Music/JudasPriest, Music/QueensOfTheStoneAge, Music/AvengedSevenfold, etc.) are either deep cuts or new material, since most, if not all, of their most well known songs were already released either as on-disc songs in prior games or as DLC, shallow character and band customizationPresently, players can't adjust a character's body shape (i.e. height and weight), there are a limited number of faces, there is an overall limited selection of clothes, there are no options for tattoos, certain accessories (e.g. bracelets, gloves) are tied to tops, and shoes are tied to bottoms, and there are no options for creating a band logo, the absence of both online play and practice mode at launch, and the removal of keys and pro guitar. Harmonix stated that several missing features may be added in later updates to the game; however, keys and pro guitar won't make a return in [=RB4=].

** After Series/TheNakedBrothersBand joined the Music Store, many detractors started countdowns to when either TheJonasBrothers or Series/HannahMontana would follow suit. Well, as of June 22, Music/MileyCyrus has five songs available for download.

* TheScrappy:
** There's a death metal song in Rock Band 2 called "Visions" by the band Abnormality. It's very difficult and many people in the Rock Band forums find it unlistenable, and so don't want to practice to get better at it. Many a BladderOfSteel runs have been ruined by this song.
** On the other end of the spectrum is "Welcome to the Neighborhood" by Libyans (also in Rock Band 2), a punk song with vocals that many people also find unlistenable and instruments that don't really make up for that fact. Thankfully, it's relatively easy and shows up fairly early in the endless setlist, so it can only ruin a BladderOfSteel run by convincing the person to stop playing so they don't have to listen to it.
** The new Scrappy of [=RB3=] seems to be Outer Space by The Muffs.
** Certain DLC packs also became scrappies, including the Music/LadyGaga, Music/MileyCyrus, and Music/Nickelback packs. As you can tell, it's usually the popular"popular" in this case can refer to the genre of the music the artist makes and/or how well known the artist is by the public. The former usually applies to DLC packs that become scrappies; the latter invariably applies. artists' whose DLC is likely to become a scrappy.
** Rock Band 4 was supposed to be a return-to-form for the series by going to focusing primarily on rock. This is true for the base game, but then the DLC adds Music/JustinBieber and Music/OneDirection. You have three guesses as to how the fandom reacted, and the first two don't count. Made somewhat worse on March 7, when a Music/OneDirection pack was released with 4 of their songs.

*** Take the typical drum beat with a high-hat or cymbal hit on every beat, a kick-pedal hit every other beat, a snare hit on every off beat, and speed that up to almost eight beats a second. * GoddamnedBats: Some songs require you to just hit the same note over and over again. Really. Really. Quickly. There's no real skill involved, just you strumming/flailing on the drums faster than you ever thought possible. (You do need skill to actually keep the rhythm while doing this, but for most people, full-comboing these sections is a write-off anyway). Of note is "Thrasher" on bass, "Black Magic" on guitar, the latter part of "My Last Words", and the outro of "Rush The Camera Eye" on drums.

This was changed in Rock Band 4, where everything above a certain but rather high speed threshold is automatically converted to a slower speed with fill lanes underneath, even on songs made before fill lanes were a thing.
