** The existence of the horror film Film/JackFrost1997 certainly hasn't help either as people have joke that the killer snowman and Jack are the same person.

* DesignatedHero: For some the movie's portrayal of Jack Frost makes it hard to swallow considering the character's actual reputation in folklore. Already suffering the blame of blizzards and other icy hazards, the movie makes it worse by showing his pranks (and his enjoyment of it) which come across as dangerous for those who had actually experience such a thing in real winter conditions. Probably the reason audiences weren't too excited for a movie about him.

** In the years following the release of Frozen, the Jack/Elsa ship has grown in popularity resulting in videos, fanart and cosplays but at the cost of being the most hated out of the Elsa ships. The war has gotten so big that evenLiterature/TheGuardiansOfChildhood series creator William Joyce got involved. During a instagram Q/A Joyce was asked about the ship to which he reply that "It would be delightful if they could be together", while also acknowledging the impossibility of it as the two are owned by rival studios. While met with approval he was also on the receiving end of some not so favorable comments and he hasn't touch the subject ever since at least on a public forum (especially as he had to defend Jack's movie, dedicated to his late daughter, from being seen as riding on Frozen's success). While this has encourage the Jelsa fanbase thanks to word of god approval (at least on the Jack Frost side) this has resulted in a bigger backlash from fans. The fact that the movie's poor performance led to having no sequel, shorts or tv series has led to fans to taunt the Jelsa fans for having a romantic interest hero that has no future.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: While several holiday movies with popular holiday characters had already been in theaters, the strange new premise of a Avengers style team-up was a drastic change not seen before for mainstream audiences. If that didn't drove audiences away, then Jack Frost being the main character certainly did as he's still a obscure character and nowhere near as famous as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.

Bunnymund was probably right questioning Jack's initiation.

* UncannyValley: The design of the Guardians and some of the kids come across as this to several viewers, often described as a "Strange" movie by those who remember it. A lot of this can be attributed to the fact that the animators where trying out a new skin texture that, as the Art of the Rise Of The Guardians book described it as, resemble "Jelly". This only get's worse with the Elsa ship where the style difference is much more noticeable, with Elsa having a Disneyfication Disney design and Jack's look resembling the much more stylized design of the books.
