* AdultFear: Imagine being a resident of the South American village in the Operation Javier scenerio in the game. You are a proud parent of a happy, healthy and promising daughter. Then one day, you learn that a lot of girls in your town are going missing; all the same age as your kid. You worry for you child, but think it won't happen. Then your child goes missing. Worst of all, you probably will never learn what happened to her; simply being an unwilling organ doaner for the dying daughter of the drug lord that governs over your village.
** How bout being a parent in the midst of a growing, devestating crisis in town; a crisis your own husband had a hand in creating, with no means to reach your child whom just arrived home from school. Now imagine calling your child to actually make it through the now dangerous town with a survival rate of 2% to the police station; the station of which is actually an even [[ItGotWorse more]] [[BeyondTheImpossible dangerous]] place than the town. Now imagine having no way to find out if they are safe and made it to the place or not. Oh and your husband? He's the last person you want your child to run into as he's personally [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything looking]] for her to "carrying on" his legacy.
** Oh and Annette Birkin is '''FAR''' more sympathetic this time around and more concerned with keeping her daughter safe and putting an end to her husband's dangerous and failed experiment than maintaining it so you really can picture yourself in her position.
* AntiVillain: Javier Hidalgo of the Type III. He is a drug lord and knows what he is doing is wrong, but genuinely loves his daughter Manuela and after suffering the death of his wife Hilda and learning his daughter contracted the same disease, desperately turned to whatever means he could to keep her alive. Of course that meant he was willing to use the T-Veronica virus (a extremely dangerous virus that without proper care could severely damage it's host brain cells and turn them into a dangerous monster) and abducting girls about Manuela's age to transplant their organs in her (and doing so for 15 years; the only other way to cyrogenetically freeze the person effected to co-exist with the virus), but he genuinely wanted to keep her alive.

** Manuela has built up a growing fanbase of her own. Though sadly, she may never appear in another game despite the game's canon ending saying [[spoiler: she survives and is taken into U.S. government custody]]. However [[spoiler: her return is not completely out of the question]]. She has a wonderful singing voice which fans are very fond of. To top it off, she managed to accomplish [[spoiler: what Alexia could not in her life-long mission: become one with the T-Veronica virus]].
* EvenBetterSequel: Darkside Chronicles certainly seems to be the better of the two Chronicle games in the eyes of fans of these games. Whilst the first game was good on it's merit and added more depth for the series's main antagonist [[EvilIsCool Albert Wesker]] , Darkside Chronicles had improved graphics, widened the range of headshots (except on Hard and Very Hard difficulty to add to the experience), remastered and remixed most of the most beloved music pieces in the series, had a more well developed original story with a more complex villian in [[AntiVillain Javier Hidalgo]] , a good supporting character in [[EnsembleDarkhorse Manuela Hidalgo]] , and the settings revolved around ResidentEvil2; arguably the most beloved game in the series and a cult favorite amongst fans in ResidentEvilCodeVeronica.
* FridgeHorror: During the boss fight on the third level of Memory of a Lost City with the G Mutant in Chief Iron's "torture room"; the same place where you find him about to stuff the Mayor's now deceased daughter (that the chief himself killed); if the G Mutant grabs a hold of you, you'll be thrown into a well full of blood and chum. At first you (and even Leon himself wonder) what the hell is the stuff they're in. And then you realize that this is the blood that the Chief drained from the mayor's daughter and possibly other victims before he "stuffed" them. *shiver*
** This one is quite a doozy, but bare with me. In one of the audio files for Game of Oblivion featuring Alfred and Alexia Ashford, they seem to be congratulating a girl named Tanya on her 13th birthday and thanking her for everything they've learned from her. According to Alexia, she possesses the same intellect level, is of the same age, and the same genetic makeup of Alexia. You hear no response from this Tanya as Alexia or Alfred speak to her. Then Alexia talks about being frozen and how she learned so much from Tanya about it. And then you realize that they cryo genetically froze this Tanya girl and are basically mocking her in death as Alexia says "Happy Enteral Thirteen" in which she states Tanya is frozen forever in. HOWEVER this takes a turn for FridgeLogic that by the time Alexia was 15, she injected herself with the Veronica virus and froze herself too. According to her, she and Alfred have congratulated Tanya for the last 15 years on her birthday. So you wonder; if Alexia is frozen as well by this time, how can she be saying all this. Then FridgeBrilliance kicks in when you '''finally''' realize that Alexia is indeed frozen and that it's not Alexia talking, but just Alfred himself whilst also playing the role of Alexia. So basically, he personally saw to it that this girl was frozen simply because she possessed all the qualities Alexia had and basically reminded him of her only furthering his pain.
** Wow, FridgeHorror, FridgeLogic, '''AND''' FridgeBrilliance all in one tiny little game extra; this was actually very creative {{Capcom}} , very creative indeed.

** Piranha, bats and ants in Operation Javier.
* HighOctaneNightmareFuel: Wouldn't be Resident Evil without it now would it?
** The means Javier took to help Manuela overcome the effects of the Veronica virus; kidnapping girls about her age, killing them, and transplant their organs into Manuela regularly to keep the virus at bay.
** The re-design for [[spoiler: Steve's T-Veronica monster form. Back then he looked rather silly, but now he genuinely looks terrifying]]
** The hidden passage way in the second to last level which is [[spoiler: covered in what appears to be walls of blood, cobwebs and guts with skeletons littered throughout the room.]] This room is [[spoiler: where all of Javier's victims were possibly killed]]. There are also two Plague Crawlers in here and they are essentially giant cockroaches that hunt for human flesh. All this in mind, you do the math.
** The audio file of Alfred and Alexia [[spoiler: actually it's just Alfred playing himself and her]] congratulating a girl named Tanya on her birthday. [[Spoiler: She is cryo-frozen at age 13 by a man in his early 30's suffering from dual personalities and simply was done so because she reminded him of his dear sister that placed herself in cryogenetic sleep to become one with the veronica virus]].
** Hey, were you terrified of William Birkin's monster forms in the original ResidentEvil2? Well guess what; they are all now fully rendered in stunningly superior graphics that capture in perfect detail all their hellish and horrifying glory. Special mention goes to his Third and fourth forms. Pleasant dreams.

* JitterCam: Meant to add to the atmosphere but all it does is make it annoyingly hard to aim compared to the previous game.

* {{Narm}}: During Ada's "death" some of her lines come across as forced. This clashes greatly with her Umbrella Chronicles portrayal.

* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Not completely rescued, but some of Steve's haters found him more tolerable in this game due to his better voice actor and for acting far less of a {{jerkass}} towards Claire.

* CompleteMonster: Alexia Ashford is much more evil in this game.

** Steve Burnside. Many fangirls were overjoyed to see him again, even if it's a retelling of Code Veronica.

* HighOctaneNightmareFuel: ''Darkside Chronicles'' manages to be much more frightening then ''Umbrella Chronicles''.
** The training facility from [[ResidentEvilCodeVeronica Code: Veronica]] is depicted here covered with Alfred's insane graffiti and littered with boobytrapped targets used by the unlucky trainees.
** The two "Alfred and Alexia" voice files, which at first appear to be them congratulating some girl named "Tanya". Then it sinks in that Tanya was some poor innocent girl who had the misfortune to be a child prodigy the same age as Alexia and possibly just as smart, which caused the jealous EnfantTerrible to use her as part of her experiments. Her decision to use cryogenic suspension to find a way to "coexist" with her T-Veronica Virus? That came about as a result of the experiments she performed on Tanya.
** The returning monsters all have redesigns, ranging from a slight cleanup to a complete overhaul. Birkin in particular is downright horrifying.
** Special mention goes to Mutant Steve's redesign. In Code: Veronica, he [[NightmareRetardant looks downright funny]], because it looks like his head was pasted on a monster body and turned green, while the fangs are only noticable in a close-up and eyes aren't creepy. Now, he's got a permanent grimace that shows off his fangs constantly and the overall nature of the mutation is even worse because you can tell that it's Steve, but it's incorporated into his monster form well enough that it's not funny, but disturbing. And his mutation is also worse, with his skin bubbling like [[ResidentEvilDegeneration Curtis Miller's G-Mutation]] and his voice-acting being more convincing.

* GenreSavvy: At the beginning Leon tells Krauser to aim for the head ot kill the zombies. Later on Claire tells Steve to aim for the bosses' heads.
