* UnintentionalUncannyValley: A unique inversion of the UncannyValley can happen here: because of the RE Engine's photorealistic high-quality models, it can be difficult to tell at first that the opening cutscene is ''actually done in live-action''... thus unnerving you with the ''absence'' of the small CGI imperfections that you would be subconsciously expecting to see.

* ItsShortSoItSucks: Just like the original game; According to reviewers, a common point of criticism is the game being comparatively short to complete, clocking in at most six to seven hours. [[note]]granted, this is still comparatively longer than ''[=RE2=] Remake'' when on a single playthrough, but the fact that the predecessor had multiple playthroughs via the mix of paths in one game balanced out the short length.[[/note]]

"Conclusive" nothing. His fate is deliberately left vague, and there are multiple helicopters in the background to account for him escaping like he does in the original.

* GameBreaker: Reloading your save file becomes this. The game keeps track of enemies you've killed over the course of the game. The more you reload, the more points you gain simply by cleaning house and reload your save file point, where it stacks the number of kills. It's also a favorite tactic in the last section of the hospital HoldTheLine segment, as you can kill all enemies until either your weapons run out of ammo or the zombies run out of zombies, then simply reload your autosave and do it over and over again. This can be the easiest method of getting some of the infinite ammo weapons, so long as you can put up with Tyrell's [[StopHelpingMe constant nagging]] for you to use the C4 and seal the entrance.[[note]]This only works up to a point; once you've killed enough baddies to get the maximum reward there's no need to keep doing it anymore, since it doesn't give points per kill, but rather a big payout once you hit certain milestone numbers.[[/note]]

* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: The very brief section in the sewers and the section in the power station both feel like they were ripped from the "G-Spawn Nest" section of the last game, With the Power station being an organic looking disgusting nesting ground for creatures that implant larva into victims, and the sewer section being populated almost exclusively with "Hunter-Gammas" which are redesigned to be tumorous creatures that have a FlowerMouth, similar to the G-Spawn from the previous game, if not as durable.

* ContestedSequel: Compared to its [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil2Remake better received predecessor]], this remake has proven more divisive, particularly among those fond of the original. The main points of contention come down to the [[ItsShortSoItSucks short game length]], the chasing scenes with Nemesis feeling somewhat underutilized and scripted in their placements, and the [[TheyChangedItSoItSucks omission of features in the original]] such as ability to craft enhanced ammo or grenade freeze rounds, the branching paths and Gravedigger boss fight. Meanwhile, the more positive reviews praise the game's manic, anxiety-inducing pace, the characterizations of Jill and Carlos, the actual boss fights with Nemesis, and additional gameplay mechanics, especially fixing some of the fiddlier mechanics like the dodge.

** Jill's new default outfit, consisting of a tank top and regular jeans, has drawn backlash from fans of her original tube top and miniskirt and for being very derivative of Lara Croft's look in the VideoGame/TombRaider2013 [[VideoGame/RiseOfTheTombRaider reboot]] [[VideoGame/ShadowOfTheTombRaider trilogy.]] This despite her classic look also being available as an alternate outfit via pre-order DLC, and other fans citing that a tube top and miniskirt aren't exactly something one should wear during a zombie outbreak. The reason given (to look more "realistic") was seen by some as a silly/dumb justification; even the "more practical" explanation is iffy, since a tank top shows nearly the same amount of skin as a tube top, and as such would offer just as little protection from zombie bites.

*** Even the classic outfit DLC has caught some flak, as the the skirt has been replaced by a skort. While it is for practical reasons as some camera angles will cause PantyShot in several scenes otherwise, the change hasn't been well received. Naturally, lots of mods are made in attempt to return the true classic look.

Corrected an error—the interview confirming RE 3 R was a finished product was 2020—RE Village's DLC was announced in June 2021.

** ''Resident Evil 3'' is a finished product. [[labelnote: Explanation]]Taken from an interview in late June 2021, where then-RE series producer Peter Fabiano stated that ''3'' would not be receiving any DLC. This has been dredged up in response to the announcement that ''VideoGame/ResidentEvilVillage'' would be receiving DLC "due to popular demand", as a point of contrast. ''Village'' was longer, had more exploration and a Mercenaries mode, when some of the fanbase upset at the changes ''3'' made to the original had been clamoring for DLC to add in cut content.[[/labelnote]]

These need to be moved under Trivia once they have confirmation that they were intentional by Word of God.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Carlos was redesigned to look more intimidating and grizzled due to criticisms his original clean-cut baby face design didn't really match up with a hardened mercenary.
** One of the criticisms of ''Resident Evil 2 (Remake)'' was how frail Leon and Claire were, as they could be downed with only 3-4 attacks from zombies. Jill, being more experienced than the two, can take comparatively more damage.
** Another criticism of ''2 (Remake)'' was that the new soundtrack was vastly inferior to the original, with the only real standouts being Hunk and Tofu's themes. The music in ''3 (remake)'' draws heavily from the original, while still remixing and revising the songs to better capture the spirit of the new game.
** Though not a particularly big criticism, the knife from the previous game breaking after so many uses was considered annoying by some since the knife proved to be helpful in saving ammunition[[note]]The game provides the option of unlocking a knife with infinite durability, though this required a lot of GuideDangIt[[/note]]. Here, the knife was confirmed to be indestructible, giving the player the opportunity of a knife-only playthrough if they choose on the first try. Even the developers tried and did it during development. This is compensated, however, by the fact that the knife in this game does comparatively less damage.
** Following complaints about the inventory screen being brought up every time an item got picked up in the previous game, now you only see it the first time you pick an item of a certain kind. Every subsequent item of the same kind you pick up is automatically put in your inventory without bringing up the screen.
** One of the biggest criticisms of the original is the fact that players had to rely on crafting gunpowder to make ammunition, which not only required a crafting tool to make (meaning having to manage inventory more often) but pickup locations were randomized with each playthrough. In the remake, the crafting tool is still present but is not needed to create ammunition from gunpowder anymore. Instead, the crafting tool is now a purchasable item from the in-game shop that can ''increase'' how much ammunition the player receives. Additionally, gunpowder is simplified for easier mixing, and there are also far more regular ammo pickups as well.
** Dodging is much easier to pull off in the remake. In the original, dodging required pressing the aim button right before an enemy was about to attack, but this was very inconsistent as it was not guaranteed to work (or worse, it'll lock you in to an animation that just makes it ''easier'' for enemies to hit you). In the remake, dodging can be done at any time with a mere press of a button, and includes a bullet time mechanic when timed perfectly.
** Nemesis is a bit easier to deal with compared to Mr. X. While Nemesis is a lot faster and stronger than X, it doesn't take much ammo to slow him down and his attacks can be easily dodged. The downtown section is also littered with power generators and explosive barrels; the shock from the former being able to stun Nemesis and give you an opening, and the blast from the latter downing him ''immediately''. Adding to this, save for the first couple of encounters with him, all of the other ones are scripted, since a major complaint about Mr. X was that he kept randomly showing up when players were exploring or hunting for a particular item, forcing them to temporarily abandon their goal to escape.
** Unlike [=RE2=] remake, you don't have to unlock certain weapons on harder difficulties. Infinite ammo weapons are instead unlocked in the in-game shop. While you are ranked at the end of your playthrough, you ''don't'' need to beat Hardcore with the best rank for an Infinite Rocket Launcher. All that's really required is the points you accumulated from clearing in-game challenges. This also means that, unlike in its predecessor, {{Speed Run}}ning (a form of challenge that often hinges just as much on [[LuckBasedMission luck]] as it does skill) is no longer mandatory to obtain the vast majority of unlockables. [[note]]You will, however, need to beat the game on the hardest difficulties and complete a speedrun in order to get ''everything'', since the only way to afford all unlockables is to clear all challenges. Players unconcerned with OneHundredPercentCompletion or unable to clear those last few challenges already have plenty of GameBreaker options available even without the Infinite Launcher.[[/note]]
** Many fans were upset when the timeline would settle for Nicholai's escape being canon in the original game, as this meant he was a complete KarmaHoudini. [[CatharsisFactor He finally gets some more comeuppance this time around in the end]], though his actual fate is left ambiguous.
** In the original, the Dead Factory conveniently having an alarm system that goes off when the U.S. army should ever launch a nuclear missile at the city was seen as a bit of an AssPull by many players. The remake changes this to a more plausible television announcement instead.

* WhatAnIdiot: Despite knowing that Nemesis is targeting Jill, the U.B.C.S. opt to wait for her to board the train and escape the city alongside them and the surviving civilians. As one would expect, [[spoiler:Nemesis catches up and causes the train to derail, killing everyone onboard except for Jill and Nicholai]]. The more sensible logic would've been for the train to depart without Jill in order to guarantee the safety of the civilians, and instead came back for her later (which was the plan for Carlos). Even if Jill thought that she had finally killed Nemesis at that point, she was proven wrong twice before and should've learned to be more cautious.
