* JerkassHasAPoint: Mordecai...is not wrong in his assessment of Rigby during the [[PlotMandatedFriendshipFailure friendship failure]]. Almost everything Rigby has ever done in the movie and show is something that ends up biting both of them in the rear in the end. It's not just that without Rigby he would have went to college, he'd never have to work at the park. Wouldn't have to put up with Benson yelling at him nearly as much. He wouldn't have to put up with nearly so much trouble in his life if it weren't for Rigby. Best friend or not.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Mordecai calling out Rigby is [[TearJerker sad]], but he is not wrong in his assessment of Rigby during their [[PlotMandatedFriendshipFailure argument near the end]]. Almost everything Rigby has ever done in both the movie and the show is something that ends up biting them both back. It's not just that without Rigby he would have went to college, he'd never have to work at the park in the first place, let alone putting up with Benson's temper nearly as much. He wouldn't have to put up with nearly so much trouble in his life if it weren't for Rigby, regardless if he were his best friend or not.

* TheWoobie: Rigby, throughout the film, is shown in fear of losing his only friend, Mordecai, once he is revealed to have [[spoiler:forged his college application that prevented Mordecai from going to college]] and feels [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone legitimate guilt]] for it. Once Mordecai realizes the truth, Rigby tries to [[DrivenToSuicide obliterate himself]] in the sun as he feels horrible for what he did to Mordecai. All of this just makes it hard not to feel sorry for him.

Misuse; Humor Dissonance is when something treated as funny in-universe isn't funny to the audience.

* HumorDissonance: The scene where Rigby reads it his rejection letter, which is written in such a disparaging tone that no official document would actually use that it pretty much cancels out what is supposed to be a tearjerker moment.

* CaptainObviousReveal: The fact that Rigby either forged the acceptance and rejection letters or switched his with Mordecai's, since not only has the show already used a similar plot device in the past but even alludes to how weird it is Rugby got accepted into college but Mordecai didn't.

* FridgeBrilliance: Pops is shown in the future [[spoiler:despite getting KilledOffForReal in the finale]]. However, since the BadFuture is averted thanks to Rigby and the gang finally managed to defeat the Timenado, the future Pops from this film no longer exists.

It’s actually acknowledged In-Universe that Rigby was being thoughtless, especially after Mordecai calls him out on his selfishness.
