Linking to this page isn't supposed to happen any more, not even for YMMV examples. If it's in-universe, it's the Fetish trope.

Not YMMV trope(s).

* OrWasItADream: The EroticDream scene, mentioned on the main page, is quite ambiguous and left open for interpretation. It holds traces of WriterCopOut.

* StrawmanHasAPoint: Royer-Collard does make a single good point: he argues that the plays put on by the inmates exploit their vulnerable status, a point that could be legitimately argued. However, he has entirely selfish motives in saying this, [[spoiler: the play was intended to mock him.]] Furthermore, [[spoiler: at the end, he uses the inmates to publish the Marquis work, exploiting them far more blatantly.]]

* CompleteMonster: Dr. Royer-Collard, the "alienist" brought in to treat the Marquis de Sade in Quills. How bad is he? Well, he makes Sade look positively decent in contrast. During the course of the film, he subjects a number of innocent inmates to torture as part of his quackish "treatment", marries a teenage girl a third of his age and then rapes her, orders a woman flogged for helping the Marquis disseminate his work, drives his asylum's GoodShepherd resident priest to commit atrocities on the Marquis, and not only abandons an innocent woman to be raped and murdered by a lunatic, but ensures that no one else will stumble on the scene in time to save her.
