Rather than a true battle, they just go up into space, look at the sun, ''somehow'' decide they have purpose in life, fall down to Earth and... that's it. Red Genesect is EasilyForgiven by everyone, the end.]]
** That's because a bulk of the movie already has them fighting. [[spoiler:And it was more of Mewtwo making Genesect look at the world to show that they are not the only ones living in the world]].

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The fact that they replaced the original Mewtwo with an {{Expy}} of the same species. Despite this, people have reported that the movie is pretty decent otherwise, at least for a ''Pokémon'' movie.
* BrokenBase: The fact that the Mewtwo in this movie is a feminine, heroic, formal one rather than the more familiar, masculine AntiHero one from the Kanto movies. Add to the fact that the old Mewtwo ''isn't mentioned at all''.
** BaseBreaker: Almost all of these tropes here have something to do with Mewtwo Y's presence would be more than enough reason why she fulfills the trope.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Those who were willing to give the movie an honest shot have taken a liking to the Douse Drive Genesect.
* FanDumb: While the "replacement Mewtwo" isn't popular by any means, a number of fans are so annoyed about it that they exaggerate many of the movie's flaws - for example, claiming that Ash forgot what a Mewtwo is and that it means that the original Mewtwo was {{Retcon}}ned out of existence. (In reality, the movie makes it ambiguous.)
