* NightmareFuel: Compared to all other leveles and enemies, the fourth floor boss and the final world, aptly called Terror Nation, look like they came straight from horror games.
** The boss of floor 4 is a [[spoiler:fake Peppino who gets creepier as the fights goes on. While at first they look like a simple taller doppelganger, it's very clear they're not human since their attacks include making dozens of clones who melt on the floor, jumping on the ceiling and trying to bite you and throwing their whole head while their brain is exposed. Even after you beat them, they will turn giant and try to eat you so your only choice is to run away]].
** "War" starts with Peppino getting a shotgun and a bomb timer starts going down and if it reaches zero you get a unique explosive fail state. Not only must you run across a battlefield full of mines and soldiers but you must go through a laboratory with enemies that look like [[spoiler: "melting peppinos", as if to imply they were doing experiments on him or creating clones]].
** Pizzascare is filled with scary imagery in the background, like rotten heads without eyes, a melting "pizza skull" and flaming skulls with red candlewax dripping from mouth and eyes, looking eerily similar to blood... If it isnt blood.
** "Dont Make a sound" is a very clear reference to VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys, being set in an abandoned pizzaria with animatronic mascots chasing you. That is spooky enough by itself spooky but then the game makes it a StealthBasedMission. If you're spotted, a toppin monster is summoned in a few seconds and not only cant you fight them but the game gives you an actual JumpScare and Peppino is transformed into a toy like them. And if that wasnt enough, one of them [[spoiler: holds a meat cleaver and has a sausage head with holes dripping what can only assumed to be blood. At least you get a shotgun later to fight back...]]

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: It would be easy to assume this game is kid friendly like the Wario Land series but it's actually rated 14 for violence and language thanks to things like fire arms, Noise giving Peppino the middle finger and one of the levels literally being titled "Oh shit!".

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The game went through many different demos and tried a lot of different ideas that would eventually be added or scrapped in the final game, with divisive reception. One of the builds even removed the grab dash, wall jump and nerfed super jump but player feedback brought it back. The addition of hitstun was also contentious among speedrunners who see it as the game being dumbed down. One big update was very combat focused, giving Peppino a new melee attacks, a buzzsaw that uses fuel, a parry, a pistol with ammo, and a heat meter that made enemies stronger but apparently only the parry survived into the final game, to the sadness of some players who felt those made the game much more unique. Even entire songs and levels were scrapped.

** At one point in ''[[VideoGame/WarioWare WarioWare Gold's]]'' intro, Wario gets hungry and remarks "It's pizza time." The theme that plays during escape sequences is called "It's Pizza Time." Hmm... now [[VideoGame/WarioLand4 what game]] was this supposed to be a SpiritualSuccessor to?
** After Music/SiIvaGunner's RunningGag of uploading ''VideoGame/SonicMania'' rips with [[Series/TimAndEricAwesomeShowGreatJob "TOTINO BOY!"]] references (to the point of releasing [[https://highquality.rip/totinos-mania/ an entire mod]] based on them), Snick's presence in such a pizza-heavy game is apt. Bonus points for featuring a character literally named Totino the Pizza Boy, a direct reference to the sketch.
