* EpilepticTrees: Due to the fact that he does not act like a normal virus, there are multiple fan theories on what Thrax is.
** Scarlet Fever. Cramping. redness on the tongue and throat, and high fever. He's also called "the Red Death". However, Thrax looks completely different from all other germs and viruses in the movie (like scabies), and as noted in ArtisticLicenseBiology, does not act like a virus should.
** Anthrax, or some other bioweapon, with he speed in which his mortality sets in, and overall goal being killing his hosts instead of spreading.
** An Autoimmune disease. As Thrax seems to turn the immune system against itself, and kills cells by injecting them with his spike-finger, he may be a mutated white blood cell.
** Ricin. A single microgram is more than enough to kill a person, and the symptoms Thrax causes are quite similar. It also wouldn't be out of place in this universe, as things like nicotine and even ''cold pills'' have sentience in this universe.
** Or. he's a deadly parasite. Once again, he looks ''nothing'' like the other cells in the film, indicating that he may be a different organism entirely. It would also make sense why he does not multiply, as some parasites do not while in a host.

** The already intimidating Thrax becomes much more terrifying in the wake of [[UsefulNotes/Covid19Pandemic another]] deadly cold-like virus.
