I think Designated Hero might have been the wrong trope for that.

* DesignatedHero: Ryoko can appear to be this, at least to a veiwer who's only watched the single season anime. She's the title character, presented as the Otogi Bank's best fighter, but there are a few too many instances where she's reduced to a DamselInDistress and ShrinkingViolet Ryoshi has to come to her rescue. These are usually important moments, to the overarching plot involving Shiro and his [[ThugDojo army of deliquents]]. She is overpowered and tied up in the second episode and spends the entirety of episode 11 (the final battle as far as the anime is concerned) tied to a chair. In both instances, Ryoshi had to save her, even winning fist fights against people Ryoko couldn't even damage. Put simply, it can be hard to take Ryoko seriously as a BadAss ActionGirl heroine, when she spends so much time durring important battles suffering TheWorfEffect for the sake of Ryoshi's development.
