* TheyCopiedItSoItSucks: Lily was subject to this at first due to her initial styling making her appear set up as an AlternateCompanyEquivalent to Music/BlackPink's Lisa (not help that Lily shares her name with one of Lisa's cats), though this has softened up around the time of ''expérgo'' due to Lily getting distinctively different styling and going viral in her own right.

Fuck it. I'm not waiting for the Billboard chart data. I've already seen enough to indicate that it isn't only me considering their beard grown with the new EP.

PS - I'm considering writing a Growing The Beard entry for the Fe304 EP and have seen some evidence that it isn't just me considering their beard grown with this release, but I'm waiting to see how its belated US release does on the Billboard charts (though it's already their first number one in Korea since 2022).

Added DiffLines:

* CriticProof: Debut single "O.O" took a critical beating on release, yet its respective single album (''Ad Mare'') was a number 1 album in Korea that has since gone double platinum there. The song is also so far one of only two NMIXX songs (the other being follow-up title track "Dice") that made the ''Billboard'' Global 200, albeit in the bottom half.

*** Unsurprisingly, the ''return'' of Mixxpop in "Soñar (Breaker)" split opinion again, with many welcoming the return of the original style and a minority complaining about it.

Worth noting Bae got into trouble during a variety show appearance for NOT doing this when she said she didn't like Skittles candy but abbreviated it as "SKZ", which is also the official acronym for fellow JYPE group (and big supporters of NMIXX) Music/StrayKids. ** Haewon's supposed "attitude problems". At one fan-meeting during promotions for ''Midsummer NMIXX's Dream'', Lily, sitting far stage-left, received no gifts from fans and appeared glum, with the other members also seeming to ignore her. When footage of the meetup was posted online, outrage from her fans zeroed in on Haewon and quickly spiralled into accusations of Haewon being a bully behind the scenes and for a time she got some hate on social media. However, context clues strongly suggest Lily was simply having a bad day – they had performed on at least two shows that day VERY early in the morning and backstage footage showed she wasn't at her best then. Also, Haewon's body language on more than one occasion shows she sometimes depends on Lily to help her get over her nerves during live stages. As for how Haewon acts towards fans, well, they literally ask for it (as noted above).

* SpiritualSuccessor: The group is often seen as the DistaffCounterpart to Music/StrayKids, with both groups having a similarly funky and out-of-the-box music concept. Doesn't hurt that they often do dance challenges together and both have native English speakers in their lineup. Somewhat HarsherInHindsight as both groups are also known for losing one of their members early in their career.

** The experimental "Mixxpop" concept being dropped in favor of more conventional song structures for ''expérgo'' is either a welcoming change for those put off by the experimental style or a complete removal of what made them stand out in the first place to those that liked the concept.

It's been more than six months since Expergo was released. Please wait at least six months in regard to the new song (preferably seven because of the new EP to to be released next month), which appears to bring back the "Mixxpop" concept and show in the Youtube comments how polarizing NMIXX is. There is still a month and change left to go before this entry can be amended to include the "A Midsummer NMIXX's Dream" single album.

The Broken Base part about Jini was a knee-jerk reaction that was stated to have been a resolved issue.

** As is common in situations like this, there were many different opinions on how to process Jinni's sudden departure from the group. Some fans said NSWER should just move on immediately and argue sentiments like "NMIXX is 7" are insulting to the remaining members. Others have said there should be at least ''some'' mourning period, especially since Jinni was not given the opportunity to post a goodbye message (which idols often do whether they're quitting or being fired), and that holding off on fully respecting the reduced lineup is a way to communicate to the remaining members that fans do not consider them expendable.
*** 100 days after her departure, Jinni opened her own Instagram and announced she had signed to a new agency. She also changed her stage-name to "Jini" (it didn't change in the original Korean hangeul). Six months after that she released her first solo EP. While she has yet to say anything about her departure from NMIXX, fans were glad she landed on her feet and everyone could move on.

** [[SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining Lily Has No Media Filter]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]During her livestreams, Lily has a habit when speaking English of saying things that she probably wouldn't get away with if she was speaking Korean. The first time was when she was discussing the book ''Literature/TheThursdayMurderClub'' and all but admitted she would kill someone threatening her family and/or friends, while tempering it with, [[BlatantLies "I didn't just say I'd commit murder on livestream!"]] Then, during their USA Showcase Tour, she broadcast from the District Of Columbia, the USA's capital and, as she put it, the home of "the big guns", meaning the government which she helpfully emphasized with finger-guns and "pew-pew!" …then ''immediately'' regretted it ("Oh God.") due to remembering the USA's infamous history of gun violence and tried to walk it back. [[IResembleThatRemark Her American fans, far from taking offense, thought it was hilarious.]] In her ''very next livestream'', she told a story about how her dog Vanilla ate one of her family's chickens and expressed concern Vanilla might eat ''her''.

It doesn't say so on the page, but off-page examples of Surprisingly Good Foreign Language are no longer allowed after it went through TRS. Use the "real life" folder under the "English" section on the page if you feel their English is noteworthy (the entry is about the members, not their songs).

* [[SugarWiki/SurprisinglyGoodForeignLanguage Surprisingly Good English]]: Obviously doesn't count with Lily since she's a native speaker but it ''does'' for the full-Korean members.
** Haewon has been learning English since she was in fifth grade at least. In fact, the earliest known video of her is her taking part in (and winning) her elementary school's English competition. Because she didn't learn from a native speaker, she has an accent, but is otherwise extremely competent. During NMIXX's first foreign outing, to KCON Chicago, Haewon did some MC duties. Another MC onstage complimented her English and asked where she was from, to which she replied (with comic timing), "I'm from… Inchon."
** Kyujin has also been shown holding her own in live English interviews without assistance (save an occasional correction from Lily if she flubs a word).
** Sullyoon is also capable of telling a coherent story in English, if she isn't feeling too shy to speak – she doesn't speak much in Korean either unless she has to.

Given how K-pop fans tend to have flame wars over the smallest things an idol does, many found it amusing how Lily made sure ''no one'' gets to twist her words (from the previous examples, one could easily misinterpret her as hating on Winter of {{Music/Aespa}}, or the music streaming service Melon), to the point that people started commenting "I dont don't like X", with X being something that shares its name with someone or something else in the K-pop industry, and then clarifying what they actually meant in parentheses.[[/labelnote]]

** Fans consider Haewon to be basically a walking talking meme and enjoy her quirks like her love of coffee, her wide range of facial expressions, her awkward laugh, and her legendary savagery during livestreams whenever fans ask her out – it didn't take long for fans to start doing so ''because'' of her reactions, hoping to be roasted by her. For instance, someone once commented, "If you breathe, we're dating," so Haewon ''held her breath for nearly a minute'' while still trying to speak.

** Whether or not "TANK" should've been their debut song as opposed to "O.O". Many fans think that the former has a more cohesive sound compared to the latter and is easier to listen to. The fact that "TANK" was already used for the group's debut trailer, while "O.O" practically came out of nowhere, made fans believe that the group would've been less divisive had they debuted with the former. Others, however, find that the chorus of "TANK" is awfully repetitive and can easily throw people off, and making it their debut song wouldn't have made any difference than debuting with "O.O".
** No one can agree on which members are the 3rd-through-7th best singers OR best dancers. There ''is'' broad agreement that Lily and Haewon are 1st and 2nd on singing, respectively. As for dancing, it's a 3-way battle amongst fans between Jinni, Kyujin, and Jiwoo. Even for rapping – which did not appear in NMIXX's own music until ''EXPÉRGO'', but they cover songs with big rap parts during shows – fans disagreed whether Jiwoo or Jinni is better.

*** Also after Jinni left, ''and'' the girl got some chances to perform solo, general consensus became Sullyoon is the third-best singer. She does not play around with her voice as much as Lily or Haewon and she cannot hit highs as consistently, but her strength and stability had become obvious. Non-fans increasingly express amazement about "A Visual who can actually sing."

** Lily has what Koreans consider a… ''unique'' way of saying "Hello". It's very sing-song in tone and has not changed since she was a tween. When she introduced herself on ''Lee Mujin Service'', the titular balladeer was momentarily confused. Six months later, when Haewon guested on his show, they pointed it out as Haewon did an impression of it. Members of Twice and ITZY have said in livestreams they consider Lily's quirk adorable, although one member of ITZY admitted she forgot how to do ''her own'' greeting because Lily's lives rent-free in her head.

** As is common in situations like this, there are many different opinions on how to process Jinni's sudden departure from the group. * ApprovalOfGod: After Haewon covered "I Love You 3000" as her predebut song, original performer Stephanie Poetri (known to be a JYP Nation stan) commented…
-->''"thank u so much Haewon!!! congrats to u and all of the girls on ur debut!!"''

* LesYay: Downplayed as both girls were underage at the time, but still there. Jiwoo had a longstanding habit of calling Bae "my love", and in group shots she is almost always standing next to Bae

* RetGone: Following Jinni's departure from NMIXX, it made sense (because it's common practice in Korea) that videos and other media shot while she was a member but not posting until after would edit her out. However, JYPE went the extra mile and deleted all of her photos on Instagram too. Within one week of her contract termination, the only proof on NMIXX's Instagram that she even existed is in group shots.
* [[HeAlsoDid She Also Did]]: Before moving to Korea, Lily appeared on local television in Melbourne a few times. She also took part in an independent film shot in and around her hometown when she was 11. In early 2011, she was the subject of a short piece on Korean television about mixed-race families. And of course she was discovered and scouted by JYP due to her participation in ''K-Pop Star 4'' in which she placed fourth overall.
** Lily also provided narration for one of Music/StrayKids's most popular songs. SKZ's Bang Chan is known to be a huge supporter of hers (probably Lily's second biggest fan after her own father) and acted as a sort of surrogate big brother during her time as a trainee.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Lily was apparently on the short-list for debuting in Music/{{ITZY}}. However, the departure of Somi from JYPE (she was also slated to be a member) coupled with a retooling of ITZY's concept to be more dance/rap focused meant Lily was no longer a good fit for the group and she had to wait another three years to debut.
* TheWoobie:
** Jiwoo — During the few months between her qualifying videos and debut, she gained a small amount of weight – not nearly as much as Twice's Jihyo had in 2015, but enough to notice – and Korean netizens attacked her mercilessly for being "too fat to be an Idol" and expressed shock and disgust that JYP would debut her. Note that Jiwoo was '''16''' at the time. They were fat-shaming an underage girl who was still growing and was not fat by any standard – she just had chubby cheeks and not-stick thighs. That some magazines photoshopped her legs to look thinner didn't help (''that'' caused her fans to justifiably flip out). Unsurprisingly, this all took a toll on the poor girl, who did lose weight over summer and autumn 2022 but also lost a lot of her bubbly mannerisms.
** Jinni — She was probably the member most affected by the harshness of Knetz. It got to the point that her personality flipped from extrovert to introvert and she openly admitted that she had lost confidence in her dancing and singing abilities. Note she had the second-longest training period of the members – only Lily had been at JYPE longer – and fans often praised her excellent dancing.
** Sullyoon – Slams against her are not as extreme as what Jiwoo and Jinni faced, but cut harder due to her very introverted personality. Universally regarded as a sweetheart and also one of the smartest members, she was attacked by stans of other Idol groups for her unrealistic body proportions. In fact, she has ''always'' had a long neck and lanky limbs, and her eyes have ''always'' been that big. There is no proof she has had cosmetic surgery (she was barely old enough for it when JYPE began teasing NMIXX).
*** She was the member closest to Jinni – they often mentioned each other on Bubble. Once JYPE and their allies at [=MNet=] began deleting Jinni from history following her contract termination, some footage of Sullyoon ended up on the cutting room floor simply by association.
** Lily — How on earth could the girl who calls herself "lively" and is compared to a ray of sunshine end up here? Well…
*** The reason she got into singing in the first place is rather sad. She spoke during ''K-Pop Star 4'' about living through the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Saturday_bushfires Murrindindi Mill Fire]] that destroyed her hometown of Marysville, Victoria, and killed some of her classmates and teachers. The fire, occurring shortly after her 6th birthday, traumatized her. Lily's parents suggested taking up music as a coping mechanism and it did help her work through her grief and trauma.
*** When she was revealed as the final member of NMIXX, nearly everyone was excited since she already had a fanbase that had been waiting patiently(?) since 2015 for her to debut (as noted above, she didn't make it into ITZY), but she also had haters who immediately started attacking her. She was accused of being a ripoff of Music/{{Blackpink}}'s Lisa (real name Lalisa) due to similar hairstyles and because Lisa is sometimes nicknamed "Lili". This sort of behavior is typical Blink, who ignored that Lily performs under her birth name and pushed the goalposts saying JYP should have made Lily use a different name. If that wasn't enough, a few Knetz called her ugly and compared her to a monkey – a horrifically racist and xenophobic statement even by Korean standards. Lily is the only biracial member of NMIXX and one of very few at JYPE.[[note]] Fellow Aussies Bang Chan and Felix of Music/StrayKids are full-Korean.[[/note]]
*** She has also been the subject of concern-trolling by "fans" who think she would have been better off bolting JYPE with her friend Somi and becoming a soloist… never mind that Lily said publicly multiple times during her trainee days she would rather be in a group.

* ApprovalOfGod: After Haewon covered "I Love You 3000" as her predebut song, original performer Stephanie Poetri (known to be a JYP Nation stan) commented…

** "Maknaez" – yes, with a "z" as per official subtitles – for Kyujin and Jiwoo, the two youngest members

** Lily also provided narration for one of Music/StrayKids's most popular songs. SKZ's Bang Chan is known to be a huge supporter of hers (probably Lily's second biggest fan after her own father) and acted as a sort of surrogate big brother during her time as a trainee.

*** When she was revealed as the final member of NMIXX, the vast majority were excited since she already had a fanbase that had been waiting patiently(?) since 2015 for her to debut (as noted above, she didn't make it into ITZY), but she also had haters who immediately started attacking her.

They were fat-shaming an underage girl who wasn't even fat.
Note she had the second-longest training period of the members – only Lily had been at JYPE longer.

** Lily — Mostly the victim of concern-trolling by "fans" who think she would have been better off bolting JYPE with her friend Somi and becoming a soloist… never mind that Lily said publicly multiple times during her trainee days she would rather be in a group. On a more serious note, some Knetz call her "ugly"; this is due entirely to her being mixed-race (she's one of the few mixed Idols at JYPE – fellow Aussies Bang Chan and Felix of Music/StrayKids are full-Korean).

to:

*** She was the member closest to Jinni – they often mentioned each other on Bubble. Once JYPE and their allies at [=MNet=] began deleting Jinni from history following her contract termination, some footage of Sullyoon ended up on the cutting room floor simply by association.
** Lily — Mostly How on earth could the victim girl who calls herself "lively" and is compared to a ray of sunshine end up here? Well…
*** The reason she got into singing in the first place is rather sad.

* BrokenBase: '''Dear. Lord.''' This group's entire concept and song catalogue runs the gamut from being declared an AudienceAlienatingPremise to "Awesome Music" and possibly shoots off into the z-axis.
** By that same token, there is a LOT of argument on whether JYPE is wasting the undeniable talents of these girls with the "Mixxpop" concept.
Even for rapping – which has yet to appear in NMIXX's own music but they've covered a few songs with big rap parts – fans disagree whether Jiwoo or Jinni is better. Jiwoo is usually the point-girl on rap.
** Whether or not there is too much focus on Kyujin. This ramped up due to her disproportionate song, center, and screen time on "DICE". Jinni and Haewon fans especially tend to be angry about this.
** As common in situations like this, there are many different opinions on how to process Jinni's sudden departure from the group. Some fans say NSWER should move on immediately and argue sentiments like "NMIXX is 7" are insulting to the remaining members. Others have said there should be at least ''some'' mourning period, especially since Jinni was not given even the opportunity to post a goodbye message (which Idols often do whether they're quitting or being fired), and that holding off on fully respecting the reduced lineup is a way to communicate to the remaining members that fans do not consider them expendable.
* FanNickname: SLAYMIXX for the group as a whole due to their ''very'' strong stage performances (where, unless it's dance-focused or a microphone is busted, they ''always'' sing live).
** Sullyoon = "Baby rabbit baby deer" (her [translated] words), so… Baby Jackalope?
** Jiwoo likes to shorten her name to "Jjyu"
** Kyujin is often called "Jinkyu" by herself and the other members; fans call her "Golden Maknae"
* LesYay: Downplayed as both girls were underage at the time, but still there. Jiwoo had a longstanding habit of calling Bae "my love", and in group shots she is almost always standing next to Bae
* MisBlamed: NMIXX was accused of "plagiarism" by fans of other groups early on, which was one of the reasons they were hit with such a coordinated barrage of hate upon debut (the other was "O.O" being base-breaking). The girls, being rookie Idols, had no say in their concept, video aesthetics, or clothing. Also, no Idol group, not even ones from SME, can own every possible permutation of a concept or musical idea.
* TheWoobie:

Note she had the second-longest training period of the members – only Lily had been at JYPE longer.
** Lily — Mostly the victim of concern-trolling by "fans" who think she would have been better off bolting JYPE with her friend Somi and becoming a soloist… never mind that Lily said publicly multiple times during her trainee days she would rather be in a group.
