* {{Fanon}}: The fandom has latched pretty hard onto the thought that Fluttershy is an anime fan (well, manga fan, given the setting's lack of television) since all of the "uninvited guests" are anime characters and some, like Rei and Utena, come from anime [[CultClassic not that well known outside of anime fan communities]]. Not to mention that both Rei and Utena are from [[NightmareFuel/NeonGenesisEvangelion series that you would NOT expect Fluttershy to like...]]

* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: The background music while the mane 6 are playing "Pin the Horn on Nightmare Moon" is similar to "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from Music/EdvardGrieg's ''Peer Gynt''.

to:

* TheProducerThinksOfEverything: This episode was delayed for a Halloween release, airing after episodes such as "Crusaders of the Lost Mark", which was further down in production order and saved for the show's fifth anniversary. Because the Cutie Mark Crusaders would earn their cutie marks in that episode, the production team wisely thought ahead and gave the Crusaders full-body costumes that hid their flanks, avoiding any continuity errors caused by the OutOfOrder broadcast.

This last part is not a broken base, it\'s presenting one side of the argument. The episode also doesn\'t have an anti-halloween message, just that Fluttershy tried the holiday and didn\'t like it. No one else stops celebrating Nightmare Night, nor is anyone else ever encouraged to stop.

* BrokenBase: While a number of fans liked the episode for its morals about giving something that you may dislike a try and that it's okay to not enjoy the things that your friends may like, others either complain that the episode is another "Fluttershy is afraid to do something" episode or criticize the way she acts during the first half of the episode (which came off as a {{Flanderization}} of her shy personality to some). Still others complain that the episode was not only Halloween Based (Nightmare Night being the Equestrian equivalent) and aired ''on'' Halloween, but that in addition to the possible flanderization of Fluttershy's character, the fact that it ended on an ''anti''-Halloween message at the end (Fluttershy's "''This'' is a perfect Nightmare Night" bit while literally ''hiding under her bed'') runs counter the spirit of the holiday, and thus ruins the the episode for them altogether.

Repair Dont and Natter.

* HilariousInHindsight: It turns out that if any episode was going to leak, we're ''very'' fortunate it was this one, as three episodes earlier was the WhamEpisode of the CMC getting their cutie marks, which are then casually on display in the two in between. (Although the CMC do appear in this episode, they're in Nightmare Night costumes, hiding their cutie marks.)
** Except that this was episode #15 in production order, while Crusaders was #19. The CMC would still not have had cutie marks.
*** The costumes, [[FridgeBrilliance in turn]], actually helped the episode avoid a major problem that would have resulted in the episode being aired OutOfOrder (i.e. the continuity error involving the CMC's cutie mark).

Broken Base requires two sides, not just ones complaints.

** There are also those who feel that some of Fluttershy's pranks go to far, particularly tricking Applejack into effectively thinking her grandmother is dead (see FridgeHorror) below. Though to be fair, some of these can arguably be blamed at least partly on Angel.
