* MagnificentBastard: Clay, in some respects. He ''is'' [[spoiler:the mayor of Moralton]], and he manipulates Shapey using reverse psychology and Doughy by using his want for a parental figure. Note that his drunk persona may or may not count.
** Also note that we only see him [[InVinoVeritas in his drunk persona most of the time]].

* CryForTheDevil: Make no mistake, Clay is an [[{{Jerkass}} awful]], [[FauxAffablyEvil awful]], ''[[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk awful]]'' human being, who turns down [[NeverMyFault chance after chance]] to atone for his sins and become a better person, and yet it's impossible not to feel pity for him at times. For all his cruelty, it's clear that Clay is little more than a sad, pathetic bully, who deeply despises the person he is at heart but lacks the strength of character to become anyone better. This is probably best shown in "Sacrifice", when he mocks Potterswheel, Papermouth, and Putty in [[KickTheDog incredibly heartless ways]] but they eventually all realize that his cruelty is just the only way Clay knows how to get any attention from anyone else.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped: The show's portrayal of ActivistFundamentalistAntics and the cruelty and hypocrisy of religious extremism on a person's psyche is '''unflinchingly''' brutal. At the same time, it takes steps to demonstrate how faith is not an inherently corrupting influence in a person's life, and indeed, it's implied by the end of the show that his faith is what allows Orel [[spoiler: to [[EarnYourHappyEnding eventually become a happy and well-adjusted person with a loving family of his own.]]

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: '''[[UpToEleven SWEET LORD ALMIGHTY.]]''' This is one of the darkest television series of all time - not darkest animated shows, darkest TV shows ''period.'' Every single character is either a [[{{Jerkass}} horrible person]], afflicted with [[DysfunctionJunction some kind of severe psychological trauma]], or [[JerkassWoobie both]], and the longer the show goes on, the less of it is played for [[BlackComedy humor]] and the more examined in [[RealityEnsues soul-crushingly realistic detail.]] Ultimately averted in [[EarnYourHappyEnding the ending]], though, when despite all the [[IronWoobie horrible things]] that have happened to him, [[spoiler: [[EarnYourHappyEnding Orel grows up to be a fine young man with a happy life and loving family, and while he hasn't ''forgiven'' his parents what they've done to him, he hasn't ''forgotten'' them either.]]]]

* AllAdultAnimationIsSouthPark: ''Savagely'' deconstructed. One of the main points, if not the entire point, of the series is to take the examples of extreme violence/gore/sexuality/transgressive and obscene behavior commonplace in most "adult" cartoons and explore [[RealityEnsues how psychologically damaging and distressing these behaviors and their causes would actually be in real life.]]
