* BaseBreaker: Axel despite only one episode being out, if Let's Plays are anything to go by. Some people like him for what appears to be WhiteAndGrayMorality, the fact that he genuinely cares about his friends, his (very) mild {{Cloudcuckoolander}} tendencies, and some of his CrossesTheLineTwice comedy. Other's hate him for 3/4 of those reasons with the added fact that he enjoys animal cruelty (towards chickens), likes scaring his friends, seems to get angry with Jesse if s/he disagrees with him, and is rather mean to Lukas. Yes, for some people it's a wonder that he's even friends with [[OnlyFriend Jesse, Olivia, and Reuben.]]

** Reuben the Pig became instantly liked and is already considered by many to be the best character in the game. Some see him as the Loader Bot of the game.
** Petra is mostly liked due to being voiced by Creator/AshleyJohnson.
** Lukas is shaping up to be this. Already there are people referring to him as a "cinnamon roll", and there are two shipping threads for him on the Telltale Community Forums. On top of that, according to Telltale's data on choices, an overwhelming 90.3% of players chose to give Lukas a cookie. Being voiced by the same man who voiced Luke in ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' probably helps.
** Gabriel due to being voiced by Dave Fennoy, who voices the main character of ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'', Lee Everett. The fact that he looks vaguely similar to Lee probably helps.

** All of the writing. There are absolutely no decent quotes as most of it seems awkward. It was just a bunch of stock phrases used for the story. If it's actually normal writing, then it comes out as average and forgettable.
** The game could pass off as an unfunny parody of ''Minecraft'', but for some reason trying to be serious and impress others. Watching this game is like watching someone's fails throughout their entire life, with a few good parts. Some parts of the game are cliche, like [[spoiler: the guy with dirty black hair and a ugly mug being evil, an obviously shady deal between that guy and someone on your side, loser protagonists, etc.]] It wouldn't be so bad if it all wasn't put together in one story. Yet, even with all these glaring mistakes this game isn't trying to play off of its terrible plot, so that's part of what makes it horrible.

** The whole battle with [[spoiler: Ivor in episode 2 was really cheesey. Ivor talked a lot, his whole fast potion was kind of stupid seeing as how he could easily have won the battle if the story let him, and the slow potion with the deeper voices of the characters is completely cliche.]] The whole episode seemed as if it was unintentionally a horrible parody of ''Minecraft'', but it was somehow trying to be serious at the same time.

** The way the characters' faces are animated can also be unnerving - their lip movement is blockly, but their eyebrows move much more fluently.

Some even say that ''Minecraft: Story Mode'' is shaping up to be a low point for Telltale Games.
