** Giant-Size Man-Thing issue #3 & Man-Thing Vol. 1 issues #21-22: Klonus and Mortak are, respectively, an EvilSorcerer and brutal warlord from another dimension. Seeking godhood, the two usurp the throne of Katharta, murdering its king and slaughtering its defenders and people while giving the women of the kingdom to Mortak's soldiers for their vile pleasure. Seeking to sacrifice Prince Korrek, the two are defeated, only to return as servants of the demon Thog in an attempt to drive the entire cosmos to madness.
** ComicBook/MarvelComicsPresents Vol. 1's "Elements of Terror" storyline:
*** General Selbert is the corrupt head of Project Glamor. In an attempt to duplicate the Super Soldier Serum, or "The Juice", Selbert runs every corrupt dealing he can, financing misery and death all over to reap profits and craft Project Glamor, where a supposed Satanic cult kidnaps victims to be used as fodder for nightmarish experiments that see their flesh warped and the victims in unbelievable agony before they succumb to death. Frustrated with a lack of progress, Selbert has Dr. Railsback made into an experiment himself before attempting to murder any who might expose the program.
*** Dr. Laurence Railsback, the chief scientist of Project Glamor, is the man in charge of carrying out all its atrocities. Having abductees brought to him, Railsback injects them with his serum to deform their bodies, leaving them in horrendous agony before expiring. With no remorse, Railsback just continues moving on to the next victims until Selbert has him "replaced", prompting the mutated Railsback to go on a brutal spree to murder the general.

* OlderThanTheyThink: Introduced the Marvel Multiverse, about ten years before Creator/AlanMoore played with the concept in his CaptainBritain books. Over the years the concept of the multiverse being a spectrum (with one end being the best possible world, and the other being the worst possible world) was abandoned. However, the concept of a spectrum multiverse was revived in the early 2000s by Warren Ellis' shortlived ComicBook/XMan run, which dealt heavily with the concept of a multiversal 'spiral' of worlds and the ability of both Nate Grey and his enemies to travel up and down it. * TheyJustDidntCare: Other than the title, it's just an typical monster movie; almost none of the characters or ideas of the comics made it into the film. In particular, they replaced Man-Thing's "touch that burns whatever feels fear" power with... tentacles.

* TheWoobie: To put it simply, Man-Thing's life sucks. He was turned into a terrifying monster, can rarely (if ever) socialize with others because if they get scared by anything he'll burn them, he constantly gets dragged into bizarre adventures when he just wants to walk around his swamp, and most of the people he's ever been close to are dead by now.
** Also getting his mind and memories back always makes things even worse for him. He either feels fear and gets incinerated by his own powers or loses his ability to properly control his teleportation powers.

!!The comic:

* AccidentalInnuendo: 'Giant Size Man-Thing'
* CrazyAwesome: The mere concept of Man-Thing as a member of a superhero team... and their transportation. To the point that he lives in a chunk of his swamp in the bottom of The Raft prison.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: HowardTheDuck.
* MoralEventHorizon:
* MyRealDaddy: Len Wein had a hand in both Comicbook/SwampThing and Man-Thing, but the former is best remembered for Moore's run, and the latter for Gerber's.
* UglyCute: Especially in Thunderbolts, Man-Thing has very expressive eyes which, combined with the tendrils of his face, just sort of make him look adorable.

!!The film:
* SpecialEffectFailure: When Steve's corpse is shown, his actor is clearly breathing.
** The CG on Man-Thing itself is mostly good, except for the red firefly-things in its eyes.
* TheyJustDidntCare: Other than the title, it's just an typical monster movie; almost none of the characters or ideas of the comics made it into the film. In particular, they replaced Man-Thing's "touch that burns whatever feels fear" power with... tentacles.
