* AcceptableProfessionalTargets:
** Paparazzi/tabloid reporters are almost always depicted as scumbag assholes, with even one episode depicting one as being shot dead at a restaurant where famous people dine and all the patrons ''applauding'' his death.
** Private investigators are also treated with much contempt by the detectives still with the police. Bounty hunters have it even worse.
** Celebrities are also fair game, in particular the ones who try [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections to use their money/power/connections/etc.]] to get away with something, those connected with reality television and if their fame overall begins to impede the case in question.
* AcceptableTargets:
** Child psychologists are depicted either wholly corrupt or totally incompetent.
** A surprising number of spoiled rich kids either go on killing sprees for the thrill of it or try to destroy their families when they stop taking care of them. The equally-privileged parents who try to get their guilty kids off the hook are treated as culpably blind at best and actively colluding against justice more often.
** The number of Christians in the show who aren't insane and/or hypocritical zealots can be counted on one hand.
** Non-New Yorkers tend to gain a lot of ire, be it justified or not, such as referring to Upstate New York as "Volvo land", tourists from Ohio who unwittingly sold video that showed the commission of a crime to a local news station as "Ma and Pa Kettle" and referring to Niagara Falls, ''Ontario'' as a "hick town".
** In "True North", Canada is portrayed as so ridiculously soft on crime due to the country's anti-death penalty stance that they actively try to sabotage the prosecution of Stephanie Harker, who murdered ''4'' people, including a child. While the country has a policy of advocating against the death penalty regarding Canadian citizens, the episode makes it seem like Canadians would rather she go unpunished.

** Ephraim Mogae from "Charity Case". His son was taken away from him through some questionably legal adoption rules. He traveled all the way to New York City to find his son. Then, he ended up accidentally killing his son' adoptive father, leaving him deeply traumatized and remorseful. When caught, he has serious leg injury but decides to willingly give himself up if he can see his son. His request is granted but he is horrified and confused to learn the child shown to him it ''not'' his. It's then revealed that the actor woman who adopted Mogae's son was very neglectful and accidentally killed him and then hired the nanny to bury the dead child and find a replacement. Mogae went through all sort of hell to be with his child who was already dead by the time he arrived.

** Mike Cutter. Some feel that he's too much of an asshole and that he doesn't make for as much of a pure-hearted heroic character like Jack did. Others believe that his asshole nature makes him interesting and praise his cleverness in getting guilty verdicts.
** Kevin Bernard. Those against him believe him to be a bland replacement for Ed Green, with little personality of his own, or just not being able to take Anthony Anderson acting dramatically seriously. Others like his calm, stoic nature and believe that Anderson's comedic chops make his snarking funnier.

** The episodes of the original run between when Briscoe left and the end. Some feel like they are just as high quality as before, with the replacement detectives being interesting and/or funny in their own right. Others believe that the show started bleeding in the flaws of ''SVU'' and ''Criminal Intent'' and that the replacement detectives (particularly Lupo and Bernard) were poor replacements.
