** Josuke 8 from ''[=JoJolion=]'' in the R version is this. Despite ASBR coming after the Jojolion manga has ended, and thus has more content to draw from, his moveset and personality are still lifted wholesale from the base game, released when it was still starting. The fact that he is still stuck on his early self got particulary noticeable as the BigBad, who only debuted in the last 20 chapters of the manga, got announced as a character.

Feels like a misuse of this trope, while it is about characters, I don't think this trope covers this particular instance, odd as it is.

** In ''All Star Battle'''s Story Mode, one of the ''Diamond is Unbreakable'' battles has Josuke go up against Shigechi, with one of the Secret Missions being to land the "DORARARARARARARA!" skill. The problem is that said skill is an anti-air skill that has Crazy Diamond punch diagonally upward, meaning that the only way it will land a hit on Shigechi is if he jumps when in front of Josuke, something he seems to go out of his way to never, ever do. What makes this extra frustrating is that Josuke ''does'' have a skill that lanuches his opponent into the air, the heavy version of "Break through, beat you up!", but the problem is that ''that'' skill can only be used when Josuke is in "[[StanceSystem User Mode]]" (stand deactivated), while "DORARARARARARARA!" can only be used when Josuke is in "Stand Mode" (stand activated), and Josuke is ''not'' fast enough to use "Break through, beat you up!", activate his stand, and land "DORARARARARARARA!".

** Scary Monsters Diego Brando was initially regarded as one of the weakest characters in the game due to relying on Corpse Parts to be able to use one of his important extenders for basic combos, and because while his combo strings are long, each individual hit did very little damage. ** While players like [=NoThankYou=] ended up vindicating Enrico Pucci (Final) as a whole, proving both that Final Pucci's Whitesnake has advantages compared to Whitesnake Pucci and that C-Moon isn't a completely unrealistic objective in competitive play, Patch 1.5 effectively turned Made in Heaven into this. The status effect Made In Heaven placed on its opponent was largely the entire reason for trying to achieve Made In Heaven; without it, Final Pucci with Made In Heaven is nothing more than an ordinary fighter, with a significantly weaker move set than the PurposelyOverpowered C-Moon. Increasing Final Pucci's speed even further than it already was proved it was ''not'' an effective way to compensate, as it ended up making it ''harder'' for players to combo with Made In Heaven rather than easier. Thankfully, Patch 2.0 slowed both Pucci and his opponent down, though not to pre-1.5 speeds, and buffed several of Pucci’s moves, so Made In Heaven is now viable once more.
