** The scene from Chapter Fifty-Nine when a naked Petra, post-sex with Rafael, hears Jane entering the room and the first place of hiding she chooses is the closet, from which she is found by both Rafael and a somewhat awkward Jane. Two seasons later, Petra is metaphorically ''out of the closet'' when we find out that she is bisexual.

This seems...rambly and awfully divorced from what the trope is trying to be. The show does not really claim white Hispanics don't exist. He doesn't even have to be Hispanic, just ended up with a Spanish surname (like Jake Peralta). That has very little to do with the Asian whitewashing in Aloha, and is in no way supposed to be a statement on Penelope Cruz playing Latina.

* CriticalResearchFailure: On the existence of white Hispanics and Latinos. The visibly very white Michael has the surname Cordero, which is Spanish, implying the writers know. But then other times, when making what's meant to be a sharp TakeThat at white actors like Creator/EmmaStone playing people of color (as was in the case of the much-maligned Film/{{Aloha}}, where she played a white-passing mixed Asian woman), European Spaniards like Creator/PenelopeCruz are offhandedly included in a checklist of "famous POC of the Latino race." There is no such thing as a Latino race, for starters. Latino is a nationality; Latinos are typically indigenous, white, black, or most commonly some combination of these. There are even significant numbers of Latinos with Asian roots. European Hispanics like Cruz are actually widely ''criticized'' by Latinos as much as white actresses of no discernible Hispanic/Latino background when they play Latinos, given that Spain is in an entirely different continent and xenophobia towards Latinos is worse than xenophobia towards European Spaniards, even against white Latinos.[[labelnote: just in case you don't know]]Latino and Hispanic are not mutually exclusive terms. Latino, however, specifically refers to people from the regions in America collectively known as Latin America. Hispanic should be applied to people from the Spanish-speaking regions and cultures. A country like Brazil is Latino, but they speak Portuguese and the cultures are more heavily informed by Portuguese colonialism, so Brazilians tend not to identify as Hispanic but do identify with the term Latino.[[/labelnote]]
