* BizarroEpisode: ''How I Learned to Fly'' barely seems like a ''Goosebumps'' book at all. The protagonist being able to fly is the only supernatural element, and he finds it more cool than scary. In fact, him getting lost while flying at night is the only scary part. It also treats the supernatural thing as a lot more realistic than most books, with the protagonist at one point [[CelebrityIsOverrated worrying that if it becomes common knowledge that he can fly, he will likely never get any peace.]]

* RealismInducedHorror: Despite the cover indicating that the horror would come from Jack realizing he's thousands of feet off the ground with little to no control, that is not the case. Nor is it that his rival Wilson found the formula and used his new flying powers to humiliate Jack ''again'' in front of Mia. No, the real horror is when [[spoiler:the rest of the world finds out about the boys' new abilities. Jack's ''own parents'' turn him into their cash cow, booking him for testing, PR events, and experiments. It takes the joy out of flying, and Jack implies he doesn't have a choice. Wilson's parents do the same thing offscreen, giving him the moniker Wonder Wilson and he's forced to drop out of school, isolating him from his classmates. Anyone familiar with FormerChildStar stories can see the FinancialAbuse and strain. You can't blame Jack for pretending he lost his powers, and doesn't dare tell anyone, not even Mia]].

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: The ending. During a huge televised flying race, Jack loses his ability to fly and it seems like Wilson has once again proven that he's better than Jack at everything. Turns out [[spoiler:Jack just pretended to lose his powers so he can break free from being a celebrity and spend time with the girl he secretly loves while Wilson is forced to move away and spend the rest of his life with the burden of being famous]].
** Mia, the girl Jack has a crush on, being worried that Jack being known as "The Flying Boy" and his rivalry with Wilson is taking a toll on him.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Jack and Wilson are scheduled to race each other live on TV, and Jack loses his powers, while Wilson wins again. The awesome part comes when it's revealed that [[BatmanGambit Jack faked losing his ability to fly, so he can go back to being a more-or-less ordinary kid and be with the girl he's had a crush on for a long time, while Wilson is forced to move because he's still trapped being a celebrity]].
** Wilson gets his own flying powers by eavesdropping on Jack and stealing a sample of the formula. He then shows up his rival ''again'' by pulling off some even more impressive flight moves, effectively outdoing a kid with superpowers. Wilson's an asshole, but when he wants to be the best at something, [[{{Determinator}} he]] ''[[{{Determinator}} will]]'' [[{{Determinator}} make it happen.]]
