Some fans feel that they are worthy successors to the original theatrical shorts, while others see them as just SoOkayItsAverage and think they play things too safe compared to the original shorts. This debate has only intensified in light of the DenserAndWackier ''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'', which has also led to additional debates over which revival is better.

** "Mickey Foils the Phantom Blot": [[DarkIsEvil The Phantom Blot]] is a [[EvilIsHammy hammy supervillain]] who seeks to steal a credit card from Ludwig that'll get him access to every source of money in the world. Managing to steal it as Ludwig is conversing with the main trio, he traps them in an ink bowl when they pursue him, using the trap to escape on his blimp with the card. When Ludwig reveals that only he knows the PIN code to it, he quickly kidnaps him and uses him to gain access to the card, using it to rob everything he can while evading the police. Upon the trio managing to destroy the card later, he decides to flee and ejects them out of his blimp using a trap door, getting rid of Donald and Goofy while dealing with Mickey, keeping the mouse on his toes throughout the fight and only being beaten by his blimp suddenly crashing into a mountain.

** The show has many characters from other Disney films they never included, in spite of being very popular--for example, [[WesternAnimation/{{Dumbo}} Casey Junior]], and [[WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid Ariel's sisters]] are left out entirely, with nary a mention to their whereabouts. Granted, Disney had only so many characters they could work with, but they could have at least snuck them in once or twice.

* UnexpectedCharacter: [[WesternAnimation/TheRescuersDownUnder Percival C.McLeach]], who along with [[WesternAnimation/TheRescuersDownUnder Joanna the Goanna]] made an appearance in the episode "House of Crime".

* FanficFuel: With the many Disney movies and TV shows having come out since the show's ending, many people who write fanfics or draw fanart about this show often write stories involving characters from movies such as ''WesternAnimation/{{Frozen|2013}}'', ''WesternAnimation/WreckItRalph'', ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Zootopia}}'', and others being involved in the hijinks at the House of Mouse. And then there's the animated shows Disney's ignored- ''WesternAnimation/MightyDucksTheAnimatedSeries'', ''WesternAnimation/{{WITCH}}'', along with more popular ones like ''WesternAnimation/GravityFalls'', ''WesternAnimation/StarVsTheForcesOfEvil'' and ''WesternAnimation/WanderOverYonder''. This also stretches to the theme park attractions like ''Journey Into Imagination'' and video games like ''Franchise/KingdomHearts''. This [[ExaggeratedTrope even extends]] to everyone else, like those from Pixar, The Avengers, Spider-Men, the X-Men, the ''Star Wars'' cast, the ''Indiana Jones'' cast and more from Disney's acquired properties.

* DesignatedVillain: Donald acts like this on occasion. While he is [[HairTriggerTemper short-tempered]], [[ItsAllAboutMe selfish]], and does underhanded things, there are occasions where he has yet to do anything wrong and he'll get blamed. Like when he's being tormented or disrespected despite him doing nothing to deserve it and he'll be framed, by either Chip and Dale, the Aracuan Bird, or Baby Shelby for things he didn't do.

* OlderThanTheyThink: Many people are unaware that the ''Mickey [=MouseWorks=]'' shorts aired as their own show before being used as segments on ''House of Mouse''. Somewhat justified due to many ''[=MouseWorks=]'' shorts making their debut on ''House of Mouse'' without airing on ''Mickey [=MouseWorks=]'' previously.

* TheScrappy: Shelby Turtle, the annoying little hellion and KarmaHoudini that has gotten away with tormenting Donald ''and'' Mickey, is this in both the ''House of Mouse'' segments and the Mouseworks toons. His mother is also definitely one as well for never realizing how much trouble her son causes Donald.

** Plenty of characters are underutilized. Despite Creator/JimCummings doing regular duty as Pete, [[WesternAnimation/TheManyAdventuresOfWinnieThePooh Pooh and Tigger]] for example spend pretty much [[TheVoiceless all their appearances mute]].

* DesignatedHero: Mickey and Minnie act like this on occasion. Like in "Donald's Lamp Trade", Mickey teases Donald for being "a ham" and Donald gets offended by it. He later gets hypnotized by Jafar into thinking Mickey is not his friend and he orders Donald to bring him "the Lamp", which was later revealed to be Mickey's dressing lamp. Donald later gets turned into a ham, and [[OutOfCharacterMoment Minnie, of all people, orders Gus Goose to eat Donald]], ''literally'', and they show no remorse and act like he deserved it ''despite him being hypnotized''.

** In "Donald's Lamp Trade", Mickey offends Donald by calling him "a ham" and he gets hypnotized by Jafar into bringing him the lamp and when it was revealed it wasn't the lamp he asked for, it was Mickey's dressing room lamp, Donald gets turned into a ham by Jafar and Minnie has him to be eaten by Gus Goose, despite him being ''hypnotized'' [[AssholeVictim and he's somehow the bad guy who deserves it]].

* UnintentionallySympathetic: In "Donald's Lamp Trade", he is shown to be completely in the wrong for being angry at Mickey for calling him "a ham" and stealing "the Lamp" (which wasn't the lamp he asked for, it was the lamp in Mickey's dressing room), but he was manipulated by Jafar into thinking that Mickey is not his friend and he gets turned into a ham by Jafar and ordered to be eaten by Gus Goose ''[[OutOfCharacterMoment by Minnie]].''

* BuryYourArt: One likely reason why this show hasn't been made available on home entertainment or Creator/DisneyPlus is because it features the animated characters from ''Film/SongOfTheSouth'' in some episodes, which Disney has been trying to remove any evidence that it exists.
