* ScrappyMechanic:
** The controls in the first game are like few other third-person-shooters out there, to the point that the game judiciously makes use of a vague auto-aim in front of you to hope to hit targets. When you need the L2 trigger to be able to turn faster than a turtle's crawl otherwise, Circle to run, and operate on tank controls with a hint of [[EventObscuringCamera the camera getting stuck on walls and objects]], it reeks of this. The second game at least streamlined some of the movement and actually shows you what the hell you're shooting at thanks to an AlwaysOverTheShoulder camera.
** With that said, the camera in ''Overdose'' does not improve that much and there are plenty of levels that put you in tight, narrow, corridors where the camera is at its worst.
** Platforming whenever it shows up in ''Overdose''. Especially in the final level where failing a jump respawns enemies to an absurd to degree, the platforming is very finnicky, and failing a jump spawns suicide bombers on the ground floor every single time.

If he successfully boxes you in with his pillars and you don't have Gungrave's stronger Demolition Shots to destroy them, then ''god help you'' because it's ensured that he'll tear through your HP very, ''very quickly''.

** The final level in the first game forces you to engage with platforming in a game that clearly wasn't designed for it due to Gungrave's physics. Additionally, it also has powerful enemies that can take a lot of punishment and in some cases can fly out of reach. If anything, it's a DisappointingLastLevel due to it being very simplistic yet at the same time tedious to go through.
